Seriously,does anyone find this attractive?

She looks like she is starving and from a third world country. She even has dark circles under her eyes.
I thought she looked like people from Holocaust pictures. She's not attractive in any way, nor is the outfit she's wearing.

I read an article that designers are using smaller/sickly looking models so their photos will get passed around like this.
Yeah, but I think that's not an effective technique. Can anyone here really describe the outfit or name the designer? No. We're all fixated on the girl's sickly appearance.

If someone posted a pic of a 250 pound woman and everyone said how unattractive and unhealthy she looked, there'd be a big fight around here.

Yes, that woman looks like she is unhealthy and could stand to gain a few pounds. But there are a great deal of people who are at unhealthy weights and I'd hate to see us making fun of all of them.

I assume that people who eat too much or too little probably have their reasons, and let it go at that. It is what is inside that counts.
But the thing is that no one would be holding up that 250 lb woman saying "here this is what you SHOULD look like" nor would anyone be trying to emulate what she does look like. No young girls are going around saying, "Gee look at that fat lady. I want to look just like her." (And I can say that since I am close to 250.)
It is what is inside that counts, but being a model means she is showing the world a supposed ideal. And actually I am very concerned about what inside her makes her need to be that thin and I truly don't think anyone could be that skinny through natural means.

I don't think anyone is making fun of anyone. I think this is quite the opposite of lighthearted joking or laughing - this is deadly serious. If a girl that weight walked into a doctor's office, she might be told she has to gain weight or she would die within the year. If a fashion designer put a woman on stage who was so obese she would die within the year, there would be a huge uproar.

No one who has abused their body to the point of being severely underweight or severely overweight should be held up as an ideal. Models are supposed to make the clothes look their best. Clothes are not (or should not) be designed to hang on a pole, but for real bodies. One would think that a skillful designer would want to showcase his talents by showing his target audience how the clothes would look on them.

The real question is how and when did the fashion community choose an unhealthy look as the standard of their models.

Even deeper - why?

Did anyone see the episode of Project Runway where the blonde girl was kicked off, because her dress made her dress was unflattering on her model, and she later complained in an interview that she got stuck with the "fat" model? The "fat" model in question was maybe a size 7 at the most.

I laughed at all the mentions of the Lane Bryant catalogs in this thread- those drive me nuts, too! I actually noticed that there are two different ones- their regular catalog uses actual plus-sized models, and the sale catalog uses the skinny models. It makes no sense to show plus-sized clothing on small models- the whole point of having a model in the catalog is so people can see what the clothes look like when worn-it would be better to just show the article of clothing itself, without a model.

It *is* true that some people just have the sort of body that is naturally very thin. However, it seems that 80% of the models or actresses that are asked about their body claim that they're just born that way. If I had a dollar for every super-slim actress that says "I don't really work out, and I eat chocolate- really!", I'd... well, I'd use the money to buy them some sandwiches.

People used to complain that Barbie's body set unfair standards for little girls, but now I'm more worried about the women they see on TV!

A good example of how things have changed over the years? Look back at the first season of Friends. Monica looked like she may have really eaten some of the food she cooked, and Rachel was a size 6 or 8. Compare to the last season. The average woman on TV has just gotten smaller and smaller in the past few years.

I was all in favor of the Spanish model ban for those with seriously unhealthy BMIs. A lot of models complained that it was discriminating against women who are naturally thin, but what about a woman who is naturally a size 10? She would be laughed out of the room if she applied for the job.

And at least Barbie is just a doll not a real person.

There must be some portion of society that finds this attractive or else it wouldn't be promoted. This is a very dangerous trend for young women and men.

My 16 year old daughter is 5'1", weighs 90 lbs, and wears a size 0 or 1. You can't see her ribs and I can still pinch fat on her belly.
Nobody gets as thin as that woman in the picture without seriously trying.

My 13 year old is 5' 6" and 110, you also can not see her ribs or back bones like that. And I don't think my daughter eats enough to feed a bird (cause she eats 6 or 7 small meals a day) and she doesn't look anything like that model.

Exactly! We're not talking about generally mocking very thin or very fat people here - we're talking about MODELS. I don't know why the designer didn't just hang the dress up on one of those mannequins, or even a hanger - would have made it look better! :rotfl:

Seriously, a healthy human body does NOT look like that. Yes there are naturally thin people, but don't tell me they look like a skeleton with some skin stretched over it like she does. I agree with whoever said that it took some work (or serious neglect or illness) to get as thin as her, and I shudder to imagine what state of health that poor body is in. I sincerely hope she doesn't catch one of those yucky flu bugs - she has absolutely no flesh to spare, and I'm afraid something like that could kill her. Seriously.
This was my exact thought. The designers would save major $$$!

Perez Hilton posted this pic of Kate Bosworth on his blog a while back- Yuck!
(The "sexy?" was put on there by him, not me, for the record.)

Scary.

It was Guy Laroche's show, and she was wearing some sort of a white dress, with a very very low back. It looked like a white cloth just draped around her.
And no, I didn't go back to look that up, I noticed that the first time.

I had a male friend who could look at a playboy model and call her fat.

Unreal.

I think it is irresponsible for the designer to put that girl on the runway- my God she looks like she could drop any minute and they are "condoning" the look by putting her up there.

:lmao: :rotfl2: I thought my DH was the only person who used that expression! He has so many sayings that I never heard before because he grew up in FL and I grew up in MA. That one kills me!

Yup. It was white like a burial shroud.

What the living skeleton of a girl or the hideous frock she's barely wearing?

My thought exactly!! What is she wearing anyway? A tablecloth held up by a strand of beads??

Actually she needs the strand of beads because it doesn't look like anything else could hold it up.

ETA: And what the heck happened to Kate Bosworth??? I don't remember her looking like that in Superman Returns, and that was just released this year.
