Seriously,does anyone find this attractive?

The thing is, there will be someone out there that is arguing that these girls aren't dieting too much, they are just naturally thin, they have fast metabolisms, etc. I remember reading lines like that when spain (I think?) put a limit on how thin a model could be and still walk the runway. It's like many in the industry just refuse to see that a problem does exist.

When I was younger, I was naturally thin and had a high metabolism. I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound. I never looked that thin and emaciated.

My 16 year old daughter is 5'1", weighs 90 lbs, and wears a size 0 or 1. You can't see her ribs and I can still pinch fat on her belly.
Nobody gets as thin as that woman in the picture without seriously trying.

she looks like she just escaped from a concentration camp

How much longer before she can slide under a closed door?

Ok, I know I just complained that I'm tired of people calling me too thin, but I did have to laugh at this. ;)

But they would get flamed for it, and people would stick up for the woman. I've seen it on other threads where people have complained about heavy people using ECV's or wheelchairs and it gets ugly pretty quick. Here, we all jumped on the bandwagon.

Please compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. For instance, if you google "fat bikini" under the "Images" tab and posted one of those pictures under the same title you would get the same kinds of responses.

In addition, if someone posted about a very, very skinny person who needed an ECV because she didn't have enough energy to walk the parks due to her eating disorder there would be people defending the person in the ECV.

I still believe we would be more sensitive to an overweight person than we have been about this woman. Or if we were not sensitive there would be a larger outcry about it.

To be fair, many have raised concerns about the woman's health which isn't insensitive, it's compassionate.

If someone posted a pic of a 250 pound woman and everyone said how unattractive and unhealthy she looked, there'd be a big fight around here.

Yes, that woman looks like she is unhealthy and could stand to gain a few pounds. But there are a great deal of people who are at unhealthy weights and I'd hate to see us making fun of all of them.

I assume that people who eat too much or too little probably have their reasons, and let it go at that. It is what is inside that counts.
I'm not making fun of her. My issue is that she is a model..She is an ideal..She is something people aspire to and what the fashion world considers to be attractive.. I wonder about the message it send...This is coming from a woman who has 2 borderline anorexic sisters

I like slender women as much as the next guy but MAN....that'd be like huggin' a set of wrenches!

certainly not attractive ... just pathetic

by the way, thanks for all the help, JennyMom, while I was planning my recent disney trip -- had a great time and necessary getaway from the grind

The designer must really dislike women & he is doing that poor girl no favors at all.
At 5'2" & with a medium bone structure, it took me weighing 80 lbs before my ribs showed & I had been ill for 3 months!

Fast forward 20 years & I am obese. While you will get flamed on these boards for insulting a fat person, IRL, no one's gonna step out of the herd to ask a jerk to mind his/her manners.
I don't mind if someone is truly interested in my health & well being, I do mind verbal insults in public places, the occassional looks are quite enough. I wouldn't knowingly insult a very thin person, or someone in a bedraggled state etc & I expect the same respect.

Oh, where do the truly offensive go to offend?

Spanish runways banned the too skinny models this summer. They wouldn't let the designers use them. Good for Spain!

Exactly! We're not talking about generally mocking very thin or very fat people here - we're talking about MODELS. I don't know why the designer didn't just hang the dress up on one of those mannequins, or even a hanger - would have made it look better! :rotfl:

Seriously, a healthy human body does NOT look like that. Yes there are naturally thin people, but don't tell me they look like a skeleton with some skin stretched over it like she does. I agree with whoever said that it took some work (or serious neglect or illness) to get as thin as her, and I shudder to imagine what state of health that poor body is in. I sincerely hope she doesn't catch one of those yucky flu bugs - she has absolutely no flesh to spare, and I'm afraid something like that could kill her. Seriously.

Seriously, I think what everyone is stating is that she is not a good role model for children, young girls or even adult women. I have alot of co-workers that are constantly dieting, because size 6 is now considered fat.

When I was in college I played volleyball and danced. I was 5'4 and weighed about 105 pounds, still my ribs did not show and I did not look sickly. I now weigh about 125 and there are some days where my self-esteem is pretty low and I "feel" fat. All i have to do is look through any magazine or turn on the tv and see models/celebritys/actors who are so thin and my mind actually thinks this is the norm and I should be like that....and I am 33 years old! Thankg god I have my husband who brings me back to reality and tells me how beautiful I am. I certainly do not want my daughter growing up thinking this is normal.

Maybe if you are into the whole "Night of the Living Dead" look... just in time for Halloween! Are we sure that isn't just a costume? :wizard:

OMG! 5'4 and 125 lbs?! This has been my goal since college as I am 5'4 as well! That's not fat AT ALL! I ALMOST made it for my wedding last year at 130, but then went back up to 150 :scared: . BUT I work out 4-5 times a week :yay: , so I don't apologize for not looking "perfect." I am healthy and that is all that should really matter. Of course I wish I could just lose a few, but I don't obsess over it at all.

Seriously, I've had elderly *dying* patients who appeared healthier. :sad2:

As my husband says I like to eat ribs for dinner not be able to count them. Seriously, I hate seeing models who are so thin. I have a daughter who I am trying to raise with a healthy body image in a world where celebrities and models are literally starving themselves. My daughter is young and she sees these images and I try to make sure she doesn't think they are to be admired or something that she should strive for. It is hard though when these rail thin images are the kind of images that she sees on TV, in movies and in magazines. It makes me sad. :guilty:

When society starts glorifying obesity the way we do thinness, then we can talk. Otherwise, there is absolutely no comparison whatsoever.

I mean, HELLO! She's a model. A model is something that many young girls aspire to be. It's not often you see a girl TRYING to gain weight.

So yes, if you put a picture up of a 250 pound woman, there would be a justifiable fight.
