September Crowds

Add myself to the September list, 12th through 20th at Port Orleans FQ. Never been in September (only January, April, June and November previous). I passed up middle of August hoping for lower crowds.

I don't think I have seen anyone talk about going in mid-August on these boards...mostly just September. I was debating on mid-August and September as well, and now I am afraid I did not choose wisely lol

Oh well. At least we will be at Disney World, right?! :)

My September experience was amazing! The lines were 5 min and under (all day!!!). This was back in 2008 it may have changed from then. It was heaven on earth.

We were there at that time, too. Right around Labor Day there was a hurricane scare, and then another watch and I think a lot of people cancelled. But it was FANTASTIC. Almost eerie at times being so empty. Those were the days you could win the dream fast passes (we got them at DHS that year) but they weren't even running the FP machines for a couple of those MK days. But I do think the hurricanes played a factor in that.

We walked down main street alone... One of the best experiences I've ever had. We went down when there was a hurricane in our area awhile a go and it was awesome.

Just based on what is available as far as rooms, dining, etc....I think it's going to be insanely busy. We're already preparing for more resort time.

Worried about our late September trip. So many Georgia schools are out for fall break and we know a lot of people who have said they are going- and that is just in our circle of friends. Moderate availability was looking low for those dates months ago.

We are going only because the kids and I are out of school and it is a good time for my husband to travel- and we booked a bounceback offer for free dining last year. I wish we could really get out the word that September is not the time to travel for low crowd levels- or for good weather. We have had more rain during our September trips than any other time, and last year the crowds were quite high. We are planning on a couple of park days, a couple of water park days, and lots of down time at the resort.

It has massively changed. Due in part to FD, Food and Wine, and MNSSHP becoming so popular and in part to more and more schools adding fall breaks they did not have previously.

Our trip last fall was from 9/26-10/1. The parks did not seem very crowded to me. I did follow the recommended parks for each day from easy wdw. Utilizing FP+ and hitting the parks early, we didn't wait more than 20 minutes for anything. On our DHS day RRC was walk-on and we rode 4 times in a row. I don't know if we just got lucky, but we just never hit much of crowd anywhere we went while on our trip.

Fall break? What in the world? Guess I have been living under a rock!

Does anyone know in general when "fall break" might be this year?

Thanks!!!

I'm not anywhere on the east coast, but around here fall break is the 2nd week in Oct. with schools going back the 2nd week in Aug.

We are going in late September this year instead of our usual summer trip because that's the only time my husband's work schedule allowed us to go. We normally go for a long weekend in September but stay off property, only go to MNSSHP, and eat maybe one or two of our favorite meals on property. I am going this year with the expectation it will be slammed based on how hard it was to reserve a room and make dining reservations. See you all there! :-)

Our kids have off for a Jewish Holiday on 10/3 (Monday) and a 1/2 day the Friday before - a "mini" fall break.

I've been trying to find Georgia schools with fall breaks in September but so far I'm only seeing the big school districts with days off the first week of October (6th and 7th specifically). I hope this is good news for all of us September people!

Last year I think there was a perfect storm, literally and figuratively, that contributed to the crowds. There was a hurricane that had many folks move their trips by a week. There was also a Jewish holiday that fell in September which added to the crowds. Night of Joy was the week we were there, which added some, not much. We were there 9/12-9/19. It was the first September trip and I thought that it was suppose to be low crowds, so was very surprised with the crowds.

One other thing to add: Many of the CMs we talked to last year told us that they were not expecting those crowds and I'm fairly certain they were not prepared to handle the crowds that were there. I know for certain they weren't at the first MNSSHP-that was a nightmare!

Going for labor day and week after, I know the holiday weekend will be crowded, hoping for it to quiet down the week after.

I agree with all of this, especially that first Halloween party- what a disaster. Our dates are 9/7-9/16 so we are hoping to catch a less crowded time between Labor Day and F&W.

Add me to the "going in September" group but my trip isn't until 2017. We last went mid-September in 2011 and I know just from reading these boards not to expect as low of crowds; though I do remember waits for many rides being 45-60 minutes at times-I know TSMM never dropped below 75 minutes; rides weren't really walk-ons per se when I last went.

I'm actually toying with the idea of making our trip for next year being Sep 8th-17th instead of Sep 15th-24th (which was roughly when we last went in 2011). Originally I had wanted to get there right when Halloween decor would be up but based on this year (when the 1st MNSSHP is which is Sep 2nd) I'm going to take a guess and say they will be starting it again next year around that time instead of around mid-September.

This will be my 4th trip going in September- Never had a problem with crowds. Really hoping the crowds stay low. We'll be there the week of the 11th and I had no problems booking dining reservations after FD was offered and same with Fastpasses. But just in case, I'm planning for mornings and park hopping.

Our last few trips have been in September. The crowds were up a very slight amount last year compared to the years before. We also went earlier than we normally had (2nd week instead of the last week). All in all even with all of the people going in Sept. it will be lower crowds than in March, April, May, June, July, August, November and December.

We also go to the MNSSHP and F&W Festival. The only time the F&W Festival is busy is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you go Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the day time you run into minimal crowds at best. Especially if you are there at 11 am when the World Showcase opens. I have a lot of pictures of my wife and different countries with no one else in the background of the pictures.

We are also going for a few days in September. We are taking the Panama Canal Cruise that puts us in Port Canaveral on September 9th, so our WDW dates are 9/9-13.

Now I'm a bit worried >.<
