*September Car Rental Rates* 2011

Do you all normally get 2 drivers when you rent a car?
These codes only allow for 1 driver but I have another code where it includes 2 drivers but it is about $25 more.
Do you find it necessary to have two people be allowed to drive the car?
It's just me and DH who would drive. I'm just wondering if it's worth the extra $25 just to have DH be able to drive too.

I think for Alamo Insiders, you could add an additional driver for free. We always add but I usually end up driving. I don't find it more convenient having extra driver. It depends if you are going to do separate things than having extra driver might be better. If not, just having one driver should be ok.

If you belong to Emerald Club (can get a free membership clicking through the link on mousesavers.com) or Alamo Insiders, a spouse with ID showing the same address is free to add as a driver. (though it's possible that using the "wrong" code could eliminate that?)

**********

Just checked National again, changed the code from Alaska's FF to Continental's, and I'm now at 212.93, Emerald Aisle, for just under 2 weeks.

I remember when i first started looking, there were some good rates, then I waited a day too long and the prices shot through the roof! I *think* I remember 600 being one of the prices I saw. Hubby was OK with 500-something (just no way), and it's been whittling on down ever since.

Yay!

I was checking rates again for 9/17-9/24 (8 days total) and Alamo has an Economy for $55 out the door. I am sticking with my standard car but wanted to let others know in case anyone is looking for a very inexpensive car to rent. :)

Just checked my rates again, and I can get an economy for basically fees only. Right now I have a compact reserved, and I've never rented an economy. So.. what cars have you seen in the Economy section recently? Don't have to worry about luggage room, etc since this is not a Disney trip. Thanks!

I can not get any of the codes to give me this kind of deal. I have fiddled with the times of pick up, places ect. and can not get it under 300 :(. I would love to be able to rent rather than drive my truck and put the miles. If I could rent a car for these prices it would be awesome!

what are your dates and times ??

Sept 9 6:30 pm to Sept 18 6:30 pm. I could do noon if it makes a dent in the costs!

I would pick up and drop off at the Indianapolis airport.

Sign up for Insider with Alamo then use the code 7015135 and $40 off AD4027JDO code and change your drop off and pick up to even times ie 6pm to 6pm I came up with Ecomomy @ $197.25 Mid size @ $262.81

the rates are the lowest late in the evening and in the early a.m. I have booked and rebooked 50 times already

:flower3:

:woohoo::woohoo:Rates just dropped again for us. We got a midsize car with a pick up on 9/4 and returning it on 9/11 for $71.94:woohoo::woohoo:

My rate just dropped another $5 from this morning. That's a total of $56 savings since Sunday evening and an upgrade from what I had already booked!

Down by another 5.63. Now using the Continental code and the $35 coupon I got in my inbox this morning, ND8578ADT (just more comfy using one from an e-newsletter I actually got, rather than one perhaps emailed to me before I was paying attention).

National base rates seem to have finally shifted for beyond September 10th not sure to which date ( was able to get similar for more than 7 days at September 21 ), but it may also depend on whether your rental is for more than 7 days as opposed to just a 7 day rental

rate is actually lower for 7 day by a couple dollars early september, but if you do more than 7 days the rate seems to be 118 and 17 for extra days

you will have to check your dates and play around a bit

Update

seems the dates for one week around the september 15 - 19 date time is now 86 base rate

My rate using the Alamo insider codes has now dropped to $65 for a midsize (I started off with an economy for $164 a week ago. YAY! :dance3:

Thanks to everyone on this site! I was able to get a full sized rental from Sept 2 - 6 for $61 out the door!! AMAZING!!! :cool1:

Wow! Insane!!!!

Yesterdays $177 / Midsize / 12 days is now $144! :woohoo:

So we're springing for a full size :cool2:.... at $159 (which was $195 Monday... I checked)

We be high rollin'. :cool1: :lmao:

This is awesome. Sure beats the $370 I was gonna pay just a couple weeks ago!

Thanks for the heads up with the codes....we weren't even going to book a car this trip and were planning on using Magical Express instead. However, for $118(!!!) full size for 10 days, we'll take the car.

Last year we booked through Alamo a standard size. When we got to the airport, we were allowed to choose off of the standard/full size row. Mostly there were minivans. Is this still the case? I'd like to know if there's a chance or if we'll most likely get a sedan.

Also, has anyone using the 7014667/AD4027JDO combination been able to check-in online to skip the lines? We did this last year and it was fabulous to be able to go straight to garage and pick the car we wanted. I'm not sure if this code is eligible since it didn't come up in my confirmation, just info about the kiosk. Since there are no physical coupons for these two, I wasn't sure why I wouldn't be able to check in online. Last year I even had a coupon from Costco and checked in online.

Good questions - both of them.

I'd like to just check in, online. I think last year I even pre-paid.

And.....what kinda cars am I gonna pick from. I always just let my son pick ~ "Alright.... which one do you want???" :lmao: It's cute to watch his little dreamy eyed look as he makes his decision. He's 16, so it's like he's REALLY picking his car. ;)

Does Alamo have a special "aisle" for Alamo Insiders similar to the Emerald Aisle? If so does it make sense to book a mid-size and take a chance on something decent being there?
