September 29,2013 - DVC Member Cruise

Good morning fellow cruisers. It is a damp and dreary morning here in central PA.

It looks like none of us have heard word one from DCL, which has me wondering - maybe they aren't exactly sure what they're doing with this cruise. Maybe like last year - pick one cruise, then change it to another.
We all can only hope.

You all have a great weekend. Ours will be a bit busy: DD is going to see her BF in Philly for the weekend, so we're heading to Pittsburgh (2 hr) this afternoon, pick up the grandson from school, go somewhere for supper, take the little guy to soccer practice in the morning, then back to Altoona with him late Sat morning, then on Sunday drive down to Bedford (45min away) to meet DD on her way back from Philly and give DGS back. Just a typical weekend for us . Oh, and DD says to me last evening, while you're over here, why don't you clean my kitchen for me. KIDS!!!

Lol re clean my kitchen! Me and DW also think it is very odd nobody has heard a word from DCL and DVC have made no announcements. We are thinking lets just keep calm and carry on and maybe they will leave us be! Have a great weekend! It is raining like a scene from Mary Poppins here near London. But we are flying to Florida a week today so we dont care!

I called DCL again on Wednesday. She said there is a chance it may not change and to call back weekly. I have been calling every 3 days. I pressed for answers so she put me through to a "supervisor". All she would say is this doesn't happen often and took my number to call me as soon as any decision has been made. I explained to her how I would like an answer either way. (I can't wait to see who gets an answer first, me by calling every three days or them by returning my call.) Have a magical weekend everyone. All we can do is hope for the best.

Thanks for letting us know. It really is dragging on isnt it! But I am a bit hopeful again now it might return to a normal voyage! Still not appearing on the dlc website as a cruise though.

DH is having surgery on the Oct 29th. He has 2 ruptured cervical discs that have to be repaired/fused. Years ago he had 2 separate surgerys for the same thing, different cervical vertebra. This time they are also putting in a metal "plate" to support/protect the area. He'll be off work for 2 months, luckily he has enough sick time to cover it.

DH's job is not overly physical. He's an RN with the Family Practice Residency program at our local hospital, so he's on his feet alot. He's just getting "old" and from early years of playing football and soft ball and for years golf, his parts are wearing out.

Oh bless him! Well I hope all goes well on the 29th. Will keep my fingers crossed for you. Must be hard to have a job on your feet all day. But being an RN is a very worthwhile job. I bet they will miss him!

Tell Don we send our prayers! That story about this weekend made us laugh.

We hope they leave us alone on this cruise too. But that December 4, 2013on the Magic is always an option if you guys want to join in! We chose that cruise for 4 reasons:
Key West - we've never been
Magic Refurbishment - she'll have undergone extensive dry dock in sept/oct and who knows what they're planning.
Price - can't beat those early dec rates for the classic ships.
Time of Year - a short visit to WDW decked out for the holiday season should fit in nicely with a 4 night sail.

We check back often too. We do show up linked and DVC is reconfirming all rsvps are secure at this point and we will be considered as whole which was encouraging.

Of course no one will go on the record as to why our ship is pulled off the system. But they are stating nothing is finalized as of now and it could be for any number of reasons (including for instance, even a partial charter - which can take a lg block of rooms but not the entire ship) so they are not going to speculate. I believe if it were an outside party who privately chartered the ship we'd be contacted by now since it's been several weeks.

I called today and got the same answer "call back next week and we'll know more." They also weren't able to tell me how a refund would work since we paid with Disney gift cards for a good portion. They said to wait to see what happens and they're sure options will be given to us.

If they do give us gift cards back we can use them for the WDW portion, but we'll be moving to a Royal Caribbean cruise that fits our planned dates.

Well you need to look no further and rebook for that date!!! Sounds like a great birthday to me! We used an onboard booking discount and scored one of the 2 secret verandah cat 7A cabins on deck 7. We've never been on the classic ships so this will be a new experience.

It is nice let me tell you, we had a deck 6 - 7a in april for 5 days out of P C. Some of our[new] friends had your room than, they first had down the hall and was paying something like $500.00 more and I told them about the 7a savings ....nice how you make new friends that way.....I love it, makes you feel so good to help people out new to cruising. Will see about the 12/4/13 cruisin' , I need to pass it by Kath. ....the old Don will be 66 [feel like 46] that day.

We're looking forward to sailing on the Magic with its brand new interior. I hear the refurb will be pretty extensive. I hope you and Kathy can make it on that one.

Any news re our cruise or is it still 'no comment from DCL? ' its hard to call from the UK with the time difference.

I would say so. I just checked the web site and the cruise is still not there. At this point I think they need to start informing us. I am getting tired of waiting. Of course that could be their evil plan all along, so there is less people to compensate.

My DW said the same thing actually. The more people that bail out now the less they have to compensate! They are making us sweat it out. I am in a lucky position where I can just wait ( within reason we have flights booked so need to change if required ) but some people will need a specific date such as the wedding you are attending. Really not on. Not pixie dust at all.

Remember, there are probably more than a few people out there who are also booked on this cruise who are NOT on the Disboards, and who probably do not know anything about what's going on. Imagine their surprise when they find out.
