September 29,2013 - DVC Member Cruise

Remember, there are probably more than a few people out there who are also booked on this cruise who are NOT on the Disboards, and who probably do not know anything about what's going on. Imagine their surprise when they find out.

I was wondering that. Ignorance may be bliss...until you find out your beloved vacation plans are ruined. Is it my British impatience? Why is it taking so long?

but I digress.............

So another dvc deal is happening. I would love to take advantage but did I mention we're on a jan 12, 2013 eastern caribbean on the Fantasy?

Long story short we were 'forced' to book this when we cancelled the 12 nt June 27th Med cruise on pts (cat 11C gty). Its not a fair trade-off if you ask me but the points were almost identical (we are now in a cat 11A).

Here's how I've summed up our new cruise plans

Awwww, PI, you're having a heck of a time with these ressies....
On the brighter side, I think you'll love the 11A inside room with the magic porthole. DD had one of those last November and she and DGS loved it. I also enjoyed watching it when I was in their room. It definately no longer feels like you're on the "inside".

I never get any mailings about DVC deals on the cruiseline. How do you hear of them? They sound like good deals!

Once you apply the exchange rate, you are talking a very nice deal!!! But it is such a last minute decision!!!
I know you have an upcoming trip. When are you travelling in?

But the DVC wouldn't allow us to sail in 2012. And this is 100% on points. So we are going to try for a port upgrade. Who knows? We may keep the virtual porthole depending on the situation.

Does the email come from dvc or dlc? Thanks for the info! We fly on Friday! Cant wait staying at SSR and got 3 nights on the Dream 1st November

Made a call to DCL to see if there was an update:

Me: I was checking online and see that the Sept 29, 13 cruise I am booked on is no longer listed. I was wondering what was up with that.

CM: Hmmm, Has anyone contacted you about this yet? Can I put you on
hold for a minute while I check......................................................
It appears that there is a hold on that cruise for a possible charter. It
doesn't show if it's a full or partial ship charter or who is chartering
it. If it was a travel agency charter, and it was listed, I'd give you
the info and tell you to rebook with them, but it just doesn't say. It
may not go thru as a charter in the end, so I wouldn't worry about it at
this point in time. If the ship is fully chartered, you will be contacted
and we will work with you to rebook to another cruise.

PI I would love it if you could sail then too. By the number of people that have joined the thread/Facebook group since the offer came out- people are jumping at the offer- so it must be good. I course some were already booked and just changed reservation Most that changed saved around $1000

We will be trying the inside rooms this time. We did get two though. It was only a little over $200 more to get two rooms and figured we would need the extra space since we are use to verandah. Plus I am sure you don't remember but DS really wanted to stay in the cool rooms with the virtual porthole.

I excited that even though cruise is less than six weeks away we could still join a FE group. Good thing I had already started working on gifts for our cruise

Still hoping everything works out well for everyone on this cruise. It would be nice if they would share some news!

I called again this morning. All they will say is that its a specialty cruise and the contracts have not been signed yet. Same old story, different day. I too wonder how many people on this cruise are clueless. It seems like DCL doesn't understand what being keep in the dark is like. I think they figure it is a year away and what is the rush, but for some of us....it's been in our plans for a long time and it is just not that easy to make changes at the last minute. Come on Disney, have some consideration.

I'm not surprised you're seeing a surge in newcomers from this deal on the Dec 1 sail. That is the furthest out a DVC member can select. I remember in the summer when this promotion was introduced, the latest sailings were the first to go. We were actually late in deciding to jump in back then and the longer we hesitated, the faster we watched the available dates disappear.

Really would love to switch the Jan cruise over but it doesn't look likely with the DVC restriction on the use of our points. What did you pick for excursions? We can't seem to get our heads into that Jan cruise at all. It's an Eastern w/San Juan - same as yours. The booking window opened up on Oct 14 and we had not planned or researched a thing!!! Our hearts belong to Sept 29

Let me know how you like the inside stateroom. We're on Deck 8 forward cabin 8517. Very curious having only cruised 2x ever! - once on the Dream cat 5B and once on the Fantasy cat 4B.

Another call to DCL. Today I was told by the CM I spoke with that Brandon (a supervisor) recommends that we simply cancel our reservation and move to another four night. (Like it's that easy. )

It is still not officially chartered and there is no date as to when they will know this information.

Well, thats a "no answer answer" I'm sure they would love if you cancelled and moved to another 4 night. Then they wouldn't have to "do" anything for you for ruining your vacation. I am becoming very disenchanted with DCL and their handling of this type of situation. Look what they did last year to those poor people, cancelled a cruise for DVC, moved all those who were booked to other cruises, then re-opened that same cruise and changed to another date for DVC. I honestly don't think they know what they are doing, and they really don't care. Maybe they learned from that experience and have decided not to make anything official until they make their final decision. I just don't understand why they are taking so long.
OH well, we're still planning on being on this cruise. GOOOOOOOO Sept 29th Bahamas Cruise!!!!!

Well I know this cruise will not happen, and I will not jump ship until they contact me. They are going to compensate me and they really need to up it for my friend who's wedding got moved.

This was just posted by "Briarrose" on a thread I had started asking what happened if DCL cancelled a cruise:

"How strange...we were just on Fantasy and booked for next year on Dream and the Future Sales guy was pushing us for Sept 29 booking and I didn't like that date."

Hello all. Right now we are bracing for Hurricane Sandy. We live 50 miles inland (due west) of Atlantic City.

Been reading about the Fantasy cruise that sailed with this storm. What a terrifying ordeal!

Anyway we're hanging in there preparing for the worst but praying for the best. Just like we're hanging in here

Happy to report we are all doing fine. We were very lucky our area was not hit as bad. Hope everyone else in the path is ok.

Glad to hear you guys are OK. I was concerned for you all. We had a lot of rain and wind. Lost a 60ft pine in our back yard, luckily it didn't hit anything but the fence, and the wind loosened some siding on the front of our garage, but that can be repaired, and we did not loose power so all is good.
Don had the surgery on his cervical vetebra yesterday and came out very well.
He's coming home today, so that is good also. He has to be in a neck brace for at least a month, and he's not happy about that but he'll adjust.

Hope everyone else is doing well also.

really glad to hear you guys did ok in the storm. I'm sure it's cold there. the temps are dropping here. Looks like another bad storm may be in our path next week.

My heart breaks for the many victims of Sandy. Staten island, Long Island, hoboken, Seaside heights and on and on. Just learned Coney Island is in crisis too.

So no news on our cruise eh?

I am going to attempt to add my daughter Marie tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.
