We're doing the same thing...I'm working from home the friday before til about 3:30pm and then we'll hit the road. Hoping not to hit lots of a traffic....

Hi all. I wanted to ask a new question. For everyone going down the night before, where is everyone staying? We're trying to pick our hotel this weekend.

We're staying at the Hampton Inn on the Sea Wall; we have Hilton HHonors Credit cards, so we'll be using points (hooray for FREE :cool1:)

We are staying at the Hilton on Seawall. They offer free shuttle service to the cruise port and let us leave our cars there for the week.
We'll be checking out Pleasure Pier Friday night also! :)

SO EXCITED!!:cool1:

Some good info for anyone who's spending the day before the cruise in Galveston. This is a good deal if you have kids and are planning to go to Moody Gardens.

:cool1:

I think we are going to do Moody Gardens that Friday afternoon. We also want to walk around the strand. I've never been to Galveston, but I think there will be lots of touristy stuff for us to do that day so the kids should be entertained. :)

In addition to Moody Gardens, there are historic mansions like the Bishop's Palace which might hold an older child's interest and there is Sea Wolf Park across the small harbor from the cruise ships. Sea Wolf Park has an old diesel sub that is open to walk through. You can rent the bicycle carriages on the seawall and mosey down to the new pier.

Galveston is a barrier island so the water is sandy and people think it is dirty because it is more brown than blue near the shore. It is a great contrast to the lovely water we will see in Grand Cayman.

Hey everyone! I just got my FE in the mail (from etsy) today and although it is cute as can be, the pockets are small! Then again, I dont know how big others' are. How big are the pockets on your FE?

My pockets are 8 inches wide and 7 inches tall. I did put a pleat in the middle of each pocket to give a little more room. From what I understand, the space where the FE goes isn't very wide.

The pockets on our FE are 7.5" wide & 5.5" tall.

Ours are 7" wide with a one inch pleat on each side and 7.5" tall. (I just finished it last night! WooHoo!)

My pockets are 5 1/2 by 5 1/2 and they have a pleat so they'll open up some. I'm really not good at these kind of projects and I don't sew so I was adding a ribbon border around the whole thing...that's why the pockets are that size. When I finished I realized that I should have made the pockets wider! That's as tall as they could be since I was putting 4 of them on there. I've spray painted some clothespins to match the FE and I'm going to clip them to the bottom of it in case any FE gifts won't fit into the pockets.

Our FE thing is pretty small... instead of making one as I don't have a creative bone in my body... we went to Hobby Lobby, found cute little black purses, and decorated those, that way when done, we will each have our own momento as a purse... they aren't very big, so am taking my messenger bag which is HUGE and am going to hang that under them for anything that wont fit in the purses themselves.

I just found this link we are sailing on Magic the 29th of September. Is it too late to get on board? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Valerie

My pockets are 8" by 8". I'm afraid some of my FE gifts will be too large for most pockets.

Welcome to our thread. You are welcome to come to our on board Dismeet. Keep watching this thread for a final time and place. It looks like it will be at 3 p.m. in the Promenade Lounge. We have t-shirts (the iron on kind--you make your own.) If you want the graphic for them, PM me. We are also having bracelets. If you want them, just post and I'm sure the person coordinating it will contact you.

Please tell us about your family. We'd like to get to know you!

Thanks Piper!!
This will be our first cruise ever!! We are all super excited. It will be my husband, 6 year old daughter, 9 year old son and myself. We are celebrating all of our birthdays while we are there. The kids opted not to have parties so that they could spend time with big mouse. Lol. I did not know that DCL had so many outside activities, i.e. door decorating and meet and greets. I guess I have to get on the ball. I just don't know where to start? Thanks for adding even more excitement.

Hi everyone, we are staying at the Holiday inn Sunspree Resort. It has free cruise parking and shuttle to the ship.
Has anyone ever heard anything about this hotel? never been so I am wondering if I made a good choice. We r a family of 5 so it was kinda hard to find a hotel that would accommodate ...(which i think is weird :sad2:)

Never stayed at it, but it's in a good location on Sea Wall. Not too far out. You will be right in the action :)

Welcome! This is our first cruise, too. I also have a 9 year old son. There are several threads about door decorating, just do a search for door magnets.
