Hi,

We have recently signed the contract on a 200 point add on at Animal Kingdom, and will shortly be making the payment. I know we can use credit card but this will hit us with a 3% fee, has anybody used Currencies Direct to transfer the money when making a direct purchase? We used Currencies Direct with our resale contract and they were pretty good.

There should not be a fee for paying with credit card. I’ve bought two direct contracts, both times with multiple credit cards (to get sign up bonuses) and there was no additional fee. Did your guide say there was a fee for paying with the card?

When purchasing direct you can use your credit card and there are no additional fees, it is not a cash advance, it is a purchase. If you have a Disney Chase Visa you can pay if off within 6 months with no interest.

Is the 3% cc fee a foreign transaction fee? I know when I travel abroad some of my cc charge up to 3% FTR on purchases & assume cc issued in other countries do the same on US purchases. There are cc that don’t charge a FTR.
I’d ask my guide if Currencies Direct would be ok as a method of wiring the money.

Hi, sorry should have said that the card fees are international transaction fees with the card provider rather than fees with Disney.

Do you by chance have access to a credit card with no foreign transaction fees? I was surprised to find quite a lot of cards don’t have foreign transaction fees. Not sure where international you are, but might be worth checking if you have different cards. It was not well advertised for mine.

If you can't find a card without fx fees where you are at (fx fee free cards are much harder to find outside the US), consider Wise. Disney will give you bank info where you can have payments wired. Wise is the most competitive option I have found from abroad.

I paid with my Disney Visa over the phone and got the usual reward dollars from it. They were fine taking credit cards for the direct points purchase.

I’ve seen UK buyers talk about Barclay’s being good for not having foreign transaction fees. You can try asking around on the UK board too.

You can also ask the guide to break into payments. Currently I think it is up to 60 days. With that you could break it down to 3 payments - paying a third down then again at 30 days and 60 days.
