September 29, 2007 - Magic

I FINALLY got to the store today, look around, and decide little bouncey balls will be a cute idea for the gift bags! Then I get on here, double check on the 1st page, and it looks like there are already 2!?!

If I get a chance to go back to the store and return/exchange them I will, otherwise there'll have to be 3 little bouncey balls in the goody bags I guess because what am I going to do with 48 bouncey balls? :confused3

Three might be the right number because most of the kids will lose one or two if they start playing with them!

Is anyone else getting nervous about all the recent hurricane talk? :confused3 I know as far as weather wise we still have a LONG way to go but I just keep remembering the year where the first one hit then it seemed as if they just wouldn't stop!

Ok...enough worrying now, I am leaving here 6 weeks from today!!!! :cool1:

No worrying allowed, we can't control it anyway!

And the best few nights of sleep I got in the Navy were during a hurricane at sea. Rocked to sleep every night.

Not going to worry and trying not to pay attention to any of it! Can't control the weather. We bought travel insurance and we're just going to go with the flow! :hippie:

My fear with the hurricanes is missing the ports---especially CC----and all plans going down the tube. Also, have the cruise cut short (which has happened in the past with DCL. I read a 7 night was cut down to 4 nights in '04 or '05 ?)

There's one potential hurricane in the eastern caribbean now :

This is not good news for us :
http://www.tbnweekly.com/content_articles/081207_fpg-01.txt
From the above article --not good at all for us !!! :
September’s forecast calls for five named storms, four hurricanes and 2 intense hurricanes. The experts predict five named storms, two hurricanes and one intense hurricane will form in October and November.

So yes, Zane....I'm a bit apprehensive.........:scared:

No weather worry allowed! We are going on DCL and even if we are diverted due to weather any port we go to will be better than being at home. DH and I have been on two DCL cruises which were diverted due to hurricanes so it does happen but everything worked out great! The only thing I worry about is getting to the ship since we are flying in on Sat. morning. But once we are there it will all be good. Everyone might want to check out what there is to do at other ports of call just to be prepared in case of a diversion.

Two items here...first, while missing the ports would be a bummer  , I'd have to say that on my previous cruises the sea days  were the best part of the cruise - so a missed port means more sea days! Second, yes a cruise may get cut short, but notice that you have to go back 2 or 3 years to find one! At 2 years for the Magic, that is 100+ sailings during some very busy huricane times. More likely than that would be a complete schedule change:headache:, like our Eastern becoming a Western, or Bahama/Bermuda cruise...So plan on going with the flow! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

If you haven't already purchased Travel Insurance :scared1: and are re-thinking that now, go read this article over at Cruise Critic: :thumbsup2

Hi al! Like all of you, we're monitoring the hurricanes as well :scared1: hopefully, it'll divert or die down when we sail :wizard:
We bought our travel insurance through Costco.. I'm about to call them to make sure.... why is it that when I retrieve my reservation for the cruise on the DCL website, it says Declined to Purchase Vacation Insurance??

Gr00vyChc :hippie:

Personally, I don't care where our stops are and of course I want the full 7 days but I think I read the cruises that were cut short they got a refund for those days worth + 50% off the next cruise so worst case, I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world either. :confused3

In any case, I'm not worrying b/c the odds are in our favor and I'm NOT even looking at that link Mia!

How many days left do we have now? Like 40?

ibela....I totally don't blame you for ignoring the link ! ;)

Thanks Jay for the cruisecritic link about insurance. We're sailing on DVC points, so I'd have to go through DVC for insurance and not sure it's not too late already ?

I will do as the majority says and just try and keep positive....:thumbsup2

I am tempted to look . . . .

We're sailing on DVC points too. I added insurance ~80 day mark, they said the cutoff was at 75 days so it's too late for that insurance. However, for flight/hotel/car or any other reservation, just make sure to use a gold credit card if you have it because they usually offer insurance on whatever it is you're purchasing, a nice feature that you won't get with a check or cash/debit! Again, I'm not going to worry about it and I'm moving my mind off the subject!!

Is anyone else planning on getting ginger tablets? The over the door shoe hanger? Um . . .and all the other stuff that's recommended?

Ibela - I saw your other thread.. so, you have a plexiglass verandah?? yey! :yay: that was our concern too 'coz it would be a bummer if my 3 yr old won't be able to see the ocean out in our verandah. DH and I will make sure that the balcony door is always locked 'coz I'm afraid that DD will wander out there and climb on a chair or table :scared1:

I'm thinking about bringing the over the door shoe hanger but for sure, I'll be bringing some ginger tea... can I get a cup of hot water on Deck 9 where the sodas are??

As far as the possible hurricanes, I'll try not to worry about it, DCL will just divert us to another destination and will do everything to keep us safe.. right???? :confused3

Gr00vyChc :hippie:

I think I will have some ginger with us. Usually Bonine from Walmart works fine for me. I usually only need it on the first night---when crossing the Gulf Stream.

Bummed that I lost the opportunity to get the insurance on the DVC points. If it's cancelled I'm hoping disney will made good by us. I'm hoping it's not an issue at all.

Tracy and I were on a Carnival cruise in the Mexican Riviera and went through Hurricane Isis. It was not a pretty sight on board as everyone was sick!:scared1:

Half the dining room was empty that night and the entertainment for that night was scheduled to be a juggler.

Ibela! You weren't supposed to click the link!! Step away from the weather information!!! Predicting weather is silly, in my opinion. It either hurricanes or it doesn't. Worrying about it from now until then is senseless. Just my 2 cents!:flower3:

On to happier stuff! ;) Yes, I'm going to get ginger tablets and was thinking last night about the shoe hanger. It sounds like a good idea. I don't think I'm getting everything that is recommended - there is a weight limit on luggage with the airlines, after all!

I have no fear that Disney will take care of us. My family was at WDW in 2004for one of the August hurricanes (and cruising Carnival for parent's 50th Anniversary and almost had that cruise cancelled or diverted but the storms went the other way) and WDW did an excellent job of taking care of everything! Also I wouldn't mind getting money off of a future Disney cruise. The reason we booked this cruise is because it is my sister's
(pooh667) 40th birthday on 10/6 and we all wanted the Eastern so i guess we will just have to deal with the hurricanes.

Ibela! You weren't supposed to click the link!! Step away from the weather information!!!

It wasn't my fault, it's Mia's!! :confused3 I asked Erik last night, he's not concerned. We were on the fence about getting off anyway so if they divert us and we make NO stops, we don't mind that either. Especially if we get a voucher for another trip!

Yes Gro0vy - plexi verandah! I picked the specific stateroom back in October and I didn't know to take that into consideration so I would've felt really dumb for picking a solid wall one. :headache: Getting a free upgrade I wouldn't mind, but paying for it and picking it in advance, dodo move!! Glad it didn't happen.

Btw- for those planning on getting Palo reservation on the boat, according to 1 of the other threads the first DCL shuttle outta MCO is ~9:30 and I think it's about a 1 hr drive (right?) so if you get to the port before 10:30 and "beat" that bus, I'd say you're 100% guaranteed to get the date and time you want. See ya guys there at 10:25. :grouphug:
