September 29, 2007 - Magic

mcraft17, thanks for clearing up the email question, I thought it was a little too easy. My sister's kids are only 9 1/2 and we had thought we would probably start in one of the others. The compulsive planner in me wants everything figured out and planned before we actually get on the ship but i guess I shall just have to wait and do some last minute juggling if needed.

MiasSRN62, thanks for the info on the "character breakfast" we will probably ask the kids if they want to go, though my Mom will probably want to go anyway to see what it is all about.:) We are actually scheduled for breakfast at Chef Mickeys the day before the cruise (to get my Mom the annual picture) because we have not been able to get an ADR for Thurs evening. We had all of our ADRs 6 months in advance but now my sister's flight will get in early enough for us all to have dinner together but getting Chef Mickeys just hasn't happen even though we have been trying everyday.

Is anybody planning to give pillowcases or photomats to Guest Services for signatures? The ones from the boads look really nice and I think would make a unique souvenir.

Just 49 days!!

Thanks for the good send-off!

When I reread this I saw that you were making stickers. My method of making magnets is to print them on paper and glue them to advertising CDs and then onto magnets from the craft store. I still function at a low tech level. So I will do that for my door. Thanks for the work. I saved the designs with the updated spelling. Actually, I doubt if the Pirates spelled it the same way twice.

"See" you all next week.

This is from post 1751 on page 117. I am back from the mission trip and this is the first day I have opened any DIS pages. I am following 6 threads and not even going to the main Cruise page, so have no idea what has gone on anywhere in the past two weeks. Updates are welcome if anyone has time.

Mission trip was quite an experience. We got up daily about 6, ate a quick breakfast and were on the job site before 7. We were working on a home for the Pastor, large enough that Bible Studies and Worship can be held there if need be. He is paying rent now so that is not a good use of the available funds since the lot is already owned by the church.

I shoveled sand, shoveled gravel, carried buckets of sand, gravel and water, participated in cement bucket brigades, shoveled morter, moved cement blocks, lifted cement blocks to the 5 foot high scaffold, laid blocks, handed out sun screen, sun burn gel, gloves, bandaids and neosporin, benedryl cream for bug bites, helped get cement out of eyes and encouraged people to drink more and rest in the shade more.

The weather was in the high 90s and we had a humidity that I label as 150%. We worked until 1...or 2....or 3 then got shuttled back to our hotel (think Motel 4 1/2) for showers and clean clothes and then were shuttled to the house the Pastor is renting where the church ladies fed us lunch. (Mid morning they sent over a snack of fruit!!)

The Ladies would not eat until we were DONE so I made sure people did not sit with empty plates in front of them chatting with friends. I guess that is their interpretation of HOSPITALITY--make sure your guests are full before you eat.

In the afternoon we were free so I snorkeled three times, did some shopping once and toured the island another time. Some nights we ate dinner as a team and some nights in small groups of our own choosing. There were 21 of us ranging in age from 16-65. I was the oldest woman.

Since I got home I have been busy with work and some friendship obligations so have a lot of e-mail to catch up on as well as DIS pages.

Hoping everyone is doing well!

Zane ! I had forgotten about that ! Darn....I would have gone. Bummed now. We did tour the new AKV. VERY nice. They were nicer than the pics we had seen. Also, while staying at the WL, a bellhop told me that the Contemp Villas DVC was a "go". I still have some doubts, because some rumors on the DIS are that they will be suites you can book in addition to the Tower and Garden rooms. Time will tell.

I am going to be in serious debt :rotfl: if the Contemp Villas are a go anytime soon! To be on the monorail and right next to MK is my idea of paradise!:cool1:

Welcome back Jan !
What admirable work you all did. I really respect you all for that. Glad u had a little downtime.

Thanks for checking in with us---I know you must have a ton to catch up on.

I know ! I prefer the themeing of the Poly if we're talking monorail resorts....but the Contemp will be so tempting ! I was even in awe of the AKV and that's no where near the monorail ! :rotfl:

The Poly is my 2nd choice but my sister's dream DVC:cloud9: ,unless they knock down some of the longhouses there is no room though!

We stayed at AKL last summer and I thought it was really nice. When I go in January with my parents we will probably go over and look at the AKV.

I have AKV booked for the Saturday we return from the cruise so I will get to check it out soon. I am ready for Jambo house though, the water area looks like a lot of fun!

We really liked the Mara quick serve, it had the regular stuff plus some other stuff like the African stew in a bread bowl and the butternut squash soup that is excellent. The water area looks really nice. I like it because some of the 1 bedrooms can hold five people.

You're welcome! I am a big plan ahead person too. I think we will go to the character breakfast since we are usually up and ready to go anyway. We have been to the original one and thought we might as well try this one out too.

We did the pillowcase last time and it turned out great! My dd loved it. This time I am going to do quilt squares and have them each sign one so when I get home I can make it into a quilt. Hopefully that will work, I heard someone else did it before as well. I like the idea of the photo mat too, I bet that would look nice.

Have a great evening!

I'm planning to take a couple of photomats to give to Guest Services... one for my DD's birthday and one for the family. I don't know what size yet..but probably not too big. How big of a mat are you planning to bring???

Just catching up reading the previous threads.. hi to everyone who are back from vacation. We just got back from Chicago too.. great city! But now, we're looking forward to our cruise next month!!!!!!!! :woohoo:

Help please --- where can I book a shuttle from the Port to the Airport??? what website?? can I book directly on the website? Thanks.

the butternut squash soup
LOVE this soup ! We ate here on July 28. They did not have this soup at the buffet. Got to chatting with our server about how much we miss it and lo and behold, about 10 min later, he comes out with two bowls ! Don't know where or how he got them, but we were so thankful.

I also love the 1 bedroom----not only that five can sleep in it, but there are two bathrooms as well. What a great way to optimize points !

GrOOvy,
We're renting a car from Budget so I don't know much about any shuttles except for the DCL ones. But here's some info about limos that offer that service---hope it helps :

Did you see the tip suggesting that you put a line of blue painters tape around the mat to cover the part that will be behind the frame and also figure out if you want it to be a horizontal photo or a verticle one so that the characters can sign it right-side-up? I am glad someone posted that!!

No wall space for a great item like this in my little condo--photos I would love to hang are in boxes in the storage closet across the hall--I love the open walls. So, since I am not hanging old favorites, I am loath to buy new stuff. BUT for those of you with plenty of wall space--HAVE FUN!!

WOW Jan, what a rewarding and fulfilling time. Very admirable, sounds exhausting. Rest up in time for the cruise!

Wagnut - I finally got to see the video, great job!!

Groovy - the shuttles are run by DCL which reminds me, I should book mine from Port to Airport too before I forget . . .

I think we're taking a towncar.. the reviews on the shuttle say that it's too much hassle. I'm not too sure.. has anyone taken the DCL shuttle to MCO and found it ok??
I checked on the towncar and for 1 way port to mco is only $100!

Got the pirate snacks for the goodie bags!!! pirate: DS was teasing me Costco was going to be out of them but they weren't!! :cool1:

JD,
What kind of snacks did u get ?

Thanks Sue for keeping the first page so organized. It's so helpful. The reason I'm asking JD what snacks she's bringing is because I'm still torn. I'm home now, but when I was in WDW this past week, I saw skull shaped lollipops at the Polynesian gift shop. I have a friend down there now who could pick them up for me, unless someone else has already gotten them ? I need 50, right ?

Thanks

They're the fruit snacks - kind of like gummy bears. Know what I'm talking about? Costco had Pirates (the movie) themed fruit snacks. So cute. DD kept yelling, "Mommy! Capt Jack Sparrow!" pirate:

We are putting together 50 bags, yes. Lollipops sound great. What kid doesn't like suckers?

Just noticed in our tickers, 1 month, 2 weeks, 3 days. 1, 2, 3! Ha! How cool is that???

I'm sure everyone got the PM about the DIS Podcast. So, I just subscribed to it via my ITUNES. It's now uploading to my IPOD so I can listen to it at work tomorrow. I'm addicted to the DIS!
:disrocks:
I felt the need to confess my obsession!
