September 28, 2016, DVC Member Cruise on the Magic!

Patricia and I are at the Martiott in Times Square. She used her Martiott points for us.

Patricia and I met on last year's DVC cruise. She's coming from Oklahoma to Cape May to spend a few nights together before the NYC stay.

Who knows anything about buying tix to a NYC play the same day? I understand we may not get seats together but NY prices for things we looked at are crazy!

.
Hi Bobbiwoz -

Here is a link to TKTS - https://www.tdf.org/nyc/7/TKTS-ticket-booths - they have a booth in Time Square where you can get same-day discount tickets to many Broadway shows. There is also an app. The site will list tickets available that day, or if you check in the evening they will list which shows were available that day. As we get closer to cruise date, you can start checking to see what shows are offering tickets thru TKTS in Mid-September. It is best to get there early in the day for most variety of seat and show selection options. The Disney shows, ie Aladdin or Lion King, do not release any tickets to TKTS. You could try calling or emailing the Disney on Broadway ticket line to see whether they ever offer same-day discounts for unsold seats day of the shows, I think I read somewhere in a comment on another thread about someone who said they'd been able to get a slight discount same day at the box office for a Disney show. If they did, it would not be as much as TKTS offers for shows that come available through there.

Hamilton also does not offer tickets to TKTS. http://www.hamiltonbroadway.com/ Hamilton does offer a same-day lottery for a few tickets each day. Click 'get tickets' and then the Lottery box for more info on how that works. They have moved to a digital lottery for the evening shows because it is so popular.

Good luck - I hope you are able to find something you & Patricia can see while in NYC.

Thank you very much!

I'm sending your post to Patricia. We definitely will look at offerings mid September, so we can have an idea about the different shows. Also, we had no idea about a lottery for Hamilton!

I've a WDW trip that's coming up, and it happens that Beautiful, the Carole King musical, traveling troupe is in Orlando when we're there and we got tickets!

As far as our 1 day in NYC, I am considering a Circle Line cruise around Manhattan. Lived in North Jersey growing up and never did that.

I have good memories of eating at Carmine's near Times Square. Anyone else interest in meeting there? In previous years, there's been a TTOTW meet, I will miss that! Maybe a lounge meet at the Marriott. I don't have to go out the night before.

If it's the Marriott Marquis, I love that hotel. I haven't had a minute to price things out but I remember looking at rates when we first booked and all my favorites were more than I wanted to spend. Great deal using points though. We are always interested in a meetup. I guess we can see where everyone is once we get closer.

Re: same day tix - I wish I could help but it's been years since we've been to the city. Couldn't believe how much the Lion King wants for a matinee. We haven't bought anything yet.

Yep, Casa de Canetti. So nice sailing out of one's own home port.

Too funny!

Sorry, didn't see Mathmagicland's post about the discount show tickets til just now. If anyone hears of a deal on the Lion King pre or post cruise let me know.

thanks

Patricia and I are making plans for her 2 nights in Cape May before we go to NYC on the Tuesday before the cruise. This has made the whole trip seem "real" to me!

Yes, it is the Marriott Marquis!

Candy Exchange interest
In May, I'll ask for cabin numbers, number of participants in each cabin and if there are any allergies. Looking forward to trying and sharing local treats! We usually include something about the history of what we are sharing.

Pretty soon I will be asking for cabin numbers and for how many participants in each cabin. Who else in interested? Last night Tom and I finished some of the treats from Ohio that we had shared on a recent cruise.

I have a "girlfriends " trip to WDW coming up. Tom will meet me in Disney, then we will head to Disney's HH resort for nearly a week. It's been about 4 years since he and I vacationed there together. It's very relaxing.

I do not know if I mentioned it here, but Beautiful is playing in Orlando when we are there, and we have tickets! There are so many things to look forward to!

bobbi - having been stuck in Jersey all winter it's been fun travelling vicariously thru you!

We did finally manage to book a last minute trip late May to use up some distressed points and hit the Flower and Garden Festival before it ends.
but what a hassle trying to get 4 nights together in a studio. So far we haven't succeeded. Crazy!

btw - did anyone book a summer 2017 cruise on opening day last week?

We have been in Cape May all week, will go back to Ohio on Saturday! We own a house here as does my sister who lives in Toms River NJ, and together we have done so much to get the houses in order for the summer ahead. Tomorrow we travel together to Seaside Park to have a Maruca's pizza with a friend who lives up there. I went to Trenton State and Maruca's on Olden Avenue was a favorite pizza hangout for my friends! Seaside itself holds a special place in my heart as Tom and I met on the Boardwalk in Seaside on June 10, 1966!

You will enjoy the Flower Show! Going to see it was why I had booked my Girlfriends visit! I hope you get a seamless stay.

Much to my surprise, dear Tom encouraged me to look at DCL's itineries, and we booked the EBTA for next year on opening day! We cancelled the placeholder for March 2017 that we had booked on our last cruise.

Is anyone else thinking of booking the EBTA?....or another cruise?

I can only wish. Did the EBTA in 2010. What a great trip! Nothing like crossing the Atlantic Ocean at 25mph.

ok where is everybody?

I think we discussed this a while back but now that we're getting closer, has everyone decided where they're staying precruise?
we have not.
I'm not sure - we are also on the pre-cruise Adventures by Disney NYC and they have changed the hotel twice now, not sure why but it is playing havoc with trying to plan :) I am hoping where we are now is the last change. Previously we were in hotels up by Central Park; now we are very close to the theatre district, in the InterContinental which is more convenient for our non-ABD things we'd like to do.

We did not as of yet. I saw a post on the disneycruiselineblog about the 2017 summer itineraries - he went through all of the posted sailings for each ship & found a gap for the Fantasy of August 26, 2017 where no sailing is yet scheduled. He speculates as to whether that could be possible dates for a 2017 Member cruise? Guess we will have to wait & see what happens after this cruise.

That would be a 7 night cruise and I hope it is!

Just started browsing through this thread. I'm used to using Facebook for finding meetup groups, I forgot all about using Dis also. Not sure if I will participate in anything here, but I'll keep up to date

A friend of mine is doing one of those photo challenges on social media, and shared this photo of Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. She is also a Titanic fan, and loved the Titanic related Maritime museum. Both are on our To do list.

I totally agree that those 2 are worth seeing.

I'm happy to be with the group in our van. It has been awhile, we were there in the 1990's I think, and have forgotten a lot.

I would love a Member Cruise on the Fantasy. fingers crossed!

We just got back from Cape May. Enjoyed a great dinner with my parents at the Lobster House. They just love it there.

Still haven't booked anything for the NYC pre-cruise stay or a 2017 cruise. I can't seem to get my act together on this. But I too am looking forwarding to touring Halifax by van. Disneybelle99 - you guys should consider joining us. It's a half day tour so you'll have plenty of time for the Maritime museum as well.

JQ and I are tentatively planning:
the private van tour.
Photo op at the citadel.
lunch at a local spot in town
and a stop in the maritime museum.

hey does anyone know when the booking window opens up for Gold? It would save me having to look it up. thanks

if I am counting the days correctly, I think Gold will open up on June 15.

We set sail in 148 days :)

Ok so June 15th still gives me a little time. thanks.
Since we're all set with Halifax, I'm much more laid back on this. All JQ and I really need to do is complete the online check-in; receive a port arrival time and book Palo brunch/dinner.
