September 2014 car rental watch

My plan was i wanted to pay no more than $150 for a car for 9 days for September...after looking and researching, got a compact car for $140 total including taxes, from Alamo which is better than my expectations...and i can bypass the counter and kiosk right to the car into the airport car rental parking lot!! :cool1:

One question-- Tolls from airport to WDW still have cash tolls right?

What are your dates? We have two nine day rentals from Aug 29 through Sept 8 and our prices are at $199 through Alamo. Perhaps the holiday weekend is driving our price up some?

You are right, I notice the same thing, the best deal I got so far was today around 1PM EST, a Dollar intermediate car, 14 days for $225 Same car now is $237 which still a good deal but Dollar @ Orlando MCO has a lot of bad reviews. Should I pick instead a Enterprise intermediate same period for $263 or Hertz for $295?? What you folks think?

We thought Dollar was great last year. Using them again in September. Just make sure you sign up to be a dollar express member to bypass the line at the airport. Checking the car back in at the airport was a breeze.

I know this is the September thread...but I need some help for October. When did you start seeing coupon codes for your month? The coupons I'm finding all end before my trip. Right now I am using a canadian visa code through National which I'm a little "iffy" about using because I can't find much info about it online....(I don't want to get to the counter and have a problem using the code) With that code its $298 (taxes, etc. included) for a Full-Size car October 10 2:00pm thru October 20 12:00 noon Any suggestions? Thanks :)

FYI pickup and drop at mco

9/6 - 9/14, we are going after Labor day, so maybe it little more with the holidays. ;)

budget is cheaper this morning for us 8 days full size using BCD W852875 MUGZ061 total $131

Thank you! Thanks to your post I was able to get an extra day and a larger car for cheaper than my Alamo rental. I had a standard car at Alamo for 8 days for $171. With budget I was able to reserve a full size 9 day rental for $154. I am going to pick up at MCO and drop off on Hotel Plaza Blvd. Does anyone have any experience with dropping off at a different location? Would they charge me a fee later even if right now the taxes and fees do not show one? Last year I did something similar when we went on a cruise after Disney and I was shown the fee right away when I booked it. I'm hoping there are no surprise charges after I arrive.

Another question... I would love to still use magical express for our luggage even though we are renting the car. Is it possible to have Disney take your bags even if you do not ride their bus? Or does at least one person have to ride the bus? Worst case I will tell my husband to take the bus with DS4 while I drive the rental with DD2 and get us checked in and settled until he arrives. We are returning the rental before the end of our trip so we'd all use ME to go back to the airport.

Any experience renting out of Sanford airport? I'm having trouble finding a good deal right now. Our dates are 9/7 - 9/14 for pick up at 9:30PM return at 2:00PM. Would like an intermediate/mid-size or bigger. Even though there will only be 2 of us we prefer a bigger car or SUV. We are not Costco members, but are AAA if that helps. Any thoughts on which company would be best to go with out of SFB? I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!

You didn't say which airport or mention your arrival/departure times, but looks like the best price going out of MCO right now is with https://www.fireflycarrental.com/rentalcar/reservation/home
$286 taxes included. Quite often, playing with pickup or drop off times, even by 15 minutes can affect the rate, so you may want to play with your actual times a little.

FYI: Firefly is owned by Hertz so its got a decent company backing it up.

nacho113 thanks for your help after reading the posts here again I realized you guys are renting from Orlando and I was looking to rent from home, that's why I wasn't seeing the discounts you guys have been getting :worried:

Keep watching as the price of your car may go down! We have gotten a car for around $65 for 10 days in Sept before!

Yes, they have cash tolls....wanting to say around $3-4 each way?

If you are a AAA member, Hertz has a managers special (they pick the vehicle, usually mid size or better) for $166 taxes incl.
https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/y-15198198/$20-off-a-weekly-rental-special-offer
We have used the manager special option 3 times now and have received a Chev Equinox, a Buick Lacrosse, and a Nissan Altima, so its a YMMV here. I believe you get whatever they have a surplus of.

I know this is the September thread...but I need some help for October. When did you start seeing coupon codes for your month?

I've been keeping a close eye all through July and I found the prices dropping about 5 weeks out from my check in day. Today is 4 weeks out and the prices were better this morning. Just be patient and subscribe to the October Rental Car thread for updates.

Thank you for your feedback, I did sign up to dollar express as I got other feedbacks that it really eliminates the counter hassle, still just a bit torn between taking the chances or pay more to be safe... :scratchin :)

Booked a rental today in case we fly at the last minute. Right now I got compact for sept 24 to sept 29 with Alamo for 125 with tax.

Thanks for the advice!! I will keep looking! :thumbsup2

I am glad to hear they got cash tolls, --the rental car website seems to indicate that we have to buy Sunpasses...:confused3

The rental cars have Sunpasses in them, but if you use them one time, you are charged the daily rental fee for EVERY DAY you have the car. So if you have it 10 days, use it once, you pay for all 10 days. You can use the cash tolls to avoid the fee. We got to where we rented a car every time, so we bought the $25 SunPass transponder and take it with us so we don't have to use the cash tolls.

I posted this in the August thread too.

I just rechecked rental rates for my late August, early September trip. The rate for my one way, 9 day reservation full-size from Budget went from over $200 to $141.39. I used BCD W852875 and coupon MUGZ061.

What are your dates? What size rental car. I checked our rates, and the price you quoted is what I am seeing as the base rate before any other fees and taxes.
