September 2011 - The Planning Continues! (2nd Thread)

There you see her - I just noticed your AOA Dec 2012 trip planned in your siggy. Nov/Dec at AOA is my ideal next trip as well lol Maybe we'll be on another planning thread together :thumbsup2
Yay for AOA in 2012! Hopefully, the resort will stay on schedule. I love going in December, but I know December prices went up this year and I hope they don't continue that trend. Mid-December was always a value season and such a cheap time to go!

Warning... long post ahead!

I've been planning our first Disney trip since last summer and now our plans may be going up in smoke! :sad1:

I had rented DVC points through an ebay auction. I checked the seller's feedback, which was excellent, and once the auction was complete (and 100% paid for), I had great communication with the seller and received a confirmation and thought all was well. In December of 2010 I had to make some changes and contacted him and he took care of everything, always being so friendly and helpful. Well I stumbled across a thread on the DIS yesterday from someone talking about renting from an ebay seller who had literally disappeared since her auction and confirmation process... and it was the same seller as I booked thorugh! One of the posters had tried to contact his family, past place of employment and even the local police dept. in his town and he just seems to have vanished. I had emailed him again back in March and hadn't heard back yet, but I knew he had a couple different jobs and was busy, and my question wasn't all that important, so hadn't been too concerned. I sent another email last night but doubt I'll hear back from him.

Currently, my reservation still shows on the DVC website as current, so I have my fingers crossed that we'll still get the room we paid for. Unfortunately, he had told me to contact him when I was ready to add the dining plan and I hadn't done that yet, so even if we do get the DVC reservations we won't be able to add the DDP. And, if he ends up not paying his annual maintenance fees, DVC can cancel all of his upcoming reservations. And since he isn't responding to anything, I find it doubtful he's keeping up on these bills.

I plan to check the DVC reservation site weekly to see if my reservation is still there, but from what I understand it can be canceled at anytime until our arrival. Even when we arrive, if it shows that he has past due maint. fees, it's possible they won't let me check in. So right now I need a backup plan. I think what we're going to do is book at Pop also and do it now with the free dining promotion, so at least we have somewhere to stay if we get down there and our AKL and BLT reservations are gone.

I guess I've learned my lesson. I know there's always a risk on ebay, but I thought I was so careful with checking references and feedback. And there are dozens of other people, even on the DIS, that have rented points through the same seller and had successful vacations.

I'm just sick right now. I've been so excited for this vacation. I booked the points in July 2010! I'm trying to stay positive and remember that we can still have a magical vacation, but I can't help but think I'll be spending 10 days at Pop Century thinking, gee, I sure wish I was enjoying the AKL savannah or BLT right now since I paid for it!

Anybody have any advice... or at least want to keep your fingers crossed for pixie dust for me :rotfl2:

Okay, long rambling vent-post over.

I would do what other PP said. Put in claims with CC or whatever else you paid with. Unfourtnaly paypal only has a small window. But at least if you get that money back you can upgrade resorts.

Ooooh, I just realized I'm under the 4 month mark now!!! We check in at POP on Sept 3rd!!! Woo hoo!!! This deserves the good 'ole banana dance!

Yeah for that!!!

Well we still are on the fence about the upgrade. Dh who has expressed no intrest said to me a couple of things that make sensse.

We are getting a fridge and we are paying for 2 ts meals op. So we need to deducted those from the cost 320.00. But I said we are lossing mugs and snacks which we use for breakfest for the girls. We are palnning on using GG now so we could skip the mugs and get beverges from GG and some breakfest items for the girls.

Then he tells me he really wants to do the fantasmic package. Well those are long gone by now. So that isn't happening. I will keep checking in case somone cancles.

Then I have the point well eating at Ts meals takes alot of time. He says make early adr's and then we don't have to wait in line for characters so we will be saving time anyway. He has great points don't he!

So I guess I'm going to upgrade and sugestion on what to go with CBR for the pool for my kids or POFQ for the queen beds?

So someone just slap me and tell me to do it. I guess 750.00 to upgrade seems like alot. But if you deduct the fridge and dining upgrade it is only 430.00 for 10 days.

Why don't you just upgrade the dining plan and stay at pop? That should save you some money that way. My kids love CBR and we are sad that it will have to get 2 rooms to stay there so it will be a while before we are there again.

That is what I said. But Dh is really pushing moderate. We can do it. I'm just trying to justify it to myself. I think I have talked myself into it. So now just need to pick CBR or POFQ.

It is funny because DH and I are having the same conversation for different reasons. He wants to upgrade to Por because it will save us over $400 and I do too but then I keep coming back to having 5 people in one room and I start to stress. We are never in the room, which is usually the arguement to stay at a value. haha

Did you find out if they are offering PL later now with the mnsshp?

I didn't call yesterday. Dh was talking about all the upgrade stuff so he had me off track. :confused3

Are your kids young? I would be fine in one room if that is the case. Teenages is diffrent.

Okay, long rambling vent-post over.

I do hope everything turns out ok for your upcoming vacation. I know I have read a couple of accounts here on the DIS where people became worried when not able to after not hearing back from the person they had rented points from and I recall at least one who eventually was able to get in touch with the person and everything was AOK. I know one was alerted when their reservation came up cancelled so I think seeing how your reservation is still showing it is a positive sign.:goodvibes

Wishing you best of luck :wizard:

My kids are 11,8, and 3. I think we would be fine in one room but it will be nice to have 2 bathrooms and to be able to sleep in a bed without one of the kids on top of me. On top of that the kids really want to stay at Pop. My husband and I would rather stay at Por but the kids are begging to stay at Pop. They love it there.

......what!!!!!!!!!!!:scared1: I can't imagine! Your story gives me a stomach ache. Please let me know how you make out!!! I can't imagine that ebay would let this sort of thing happen.....rate that player immediately!

Thanks for letting me know that.

So my friend is asking me some great places for his family to pick for their dining plan. I know what I have and of course I picked a few based on charcters. However regardless if they have a character, please tell me ur must have dinings(TS) and why>???

We really like O'Hana's and Teppan Edo as well. This first time we tried Teppam Edo I was a little concerned. I don't like fish and my boys are really picky. It was awesome. Everyone had the steak with chineese noodles. It is so fun! The chefs are very entertaining!

This by far has been the worst week. Havent been around much because DS (who is only 20months old) managed to grab my teacup off the counter and spill it on himself. Needless to say he got burned, really badly, and we had to spend 4 nights in the hospitals burn center. He only burned the top part of one side of his chest, under his armpit where he reached up and a spot on his chin but even though its a small area, since hes so young its a big deal. I've been a mess, DS though has been acting fine since it happened.. you would never know. I however am not doing as well, and feel like the worst mother alive :confused3 I am now so determined to make sure this upcoming vacation is amazing for DS because he deserves it after this. Please keep him in your prayers for a super fast recovery! They said in a month the burns wont even be noticeable anymore and youll never be able to tell by looking at him that this happened... but a month seems forever away right now. As a mom, this is the worst feeling in the world seeing him like this. :sad2:

Sending him and you hugs. Don't beat yourself up. My 3 year old hasn't done anything yet. But I'm waiting for the day that girl just hurts herself. If she isn't suppose to touch it she will just beacuse. That is they way she thinks.

Well I finally did it we just upgrade to CBR. Glad that is done. Know I just need to get some adr's done. Looks as of right now I can get almost everything but fantasmic.

 How scary and hard that is. I also go on a parenting social network site and have read more than one story about kids pulling down coffee cups and burning themselves. I know it is scary and hard, but you are not the worst mother alive and he will be ok. Good reminder to make sure my hot coffee is out of arm's reach, I am guilty of leaving it on the edge of the counter too.

Oh PeachyDreamy...Don't feel bad! Things like that just happen and toddlers are the worst for trying to injure themselves!

My DD who is 8 was playing on a swingset and went headfirst into the 4x4 upright holding the swings up. She was 3 and had to have 8 stitches in her forehead. We had to take her to the hospital and it was extremely upsetting...and bloody. She learned a new word, "traumatic" and how *not* to play on the swings.

DS who is 2 1/2 got a viral infection while DH and I were on a camping trip 6 states away from home (about a 12 hour drive). I got a call at 9pm at night from my mom saying that she had called an ambulance because the kiddo had gone into convulsions and turned blue. DH and I threw everything into our van and left within 20 minutes toward home. As it turns out, the reason DS convulsed is that his fever went up too high too fast and sometimes kids react that way. By the time I got home he was fine, but I felt like a terrible parent for not being there.

Don't beat yourself up! He's going to heal much faster than you would be able to. It's hard to see them hurt, but it's will be okay.

Aww poor mom and poor DS!

I agree with everyone else...it was just an accident. I have a friend at church whose little boy grabbed her curling iron and burned his hand REALLY bad. Accidents happen. :grouphug:

We will keep you busy chatting and this next month will FLY by!!! He will be as good as new in no time!

Don't feel like a horrible mom---it happens to the best of us. My DD(11) was 2 and listened very well. Was actually fine and we were helping her to do sparklers....once the were out she would put them down. For some reason after #6 she decided to grab it with the other hand. Yep severe burn. ER we went and ointment and bandage like she broke her hand. Happened in the summer(july 4th obviously) and she couldn't swim:scared1: Kids can take more then we think. She was fine... it healed and nothing on the palm of her hand, no scaring. And she doesn't remember except seeing the video. One of us was filming while the other was helping. Don't feel you have to spend a fortune to make up for it...he will forget and you will forgive yourself. I know it takes time cause I have been there. I think I was more scarred from it then she was. Happy Mother's Day;)

Thank you so much everyone, I knew I could count on the DIS to cheer me up :grouphug: Ive been trying so hard not to let this get the best of me, but I keep thinking of how I should have moved that cup just an inch and he would be fine. :confused3 I really appreciate all of the kind words more than you know! Its been so rough these past few days, and knowing that I'm not alone and that these things happen helps get through it. I just cant wait to take him to Disney, I know how excited he is going to be and I would give anything to see him that excited right now instead of having to go through all of this :sad1:

Awww, peachydreamyxx, DEFINITELY don't beat yourself up! Accidents definitely happen, especially with toddlers. My youngest DD fell from our back door to our porch when she was about that age. I was leaving for school, and she thought I was leaving without her kiss. She came running out and landed flat. It wouldn't be so bad, but there is a four inch lip between the entry door and porch (and the porch is solid concrete :sad2:) She still sports a sizeable scar under her chin that seemed like it poured more blood than I had ever seen. Thank goodness they're more resilient than we are! Prayers and hugs for both of you! :grouphug:
