September 2011 - The Planning Continues! (2nd Thread)

OH man it's getting so close.

We went to Dutch Wonderland (an amusement park geared toward small children) yesterday and tried out a few things we have up our sleeve for disney and it seems like our plans are going to work like a charm. it helps that DD3 is so easy going so it's not hard to derail her when she's on track for a meltdown. a simple reminder that if she's too tired to behave then it's time to leave for a rest and she perks right up lol. But yesterday was a good indication that our afternoon break for naps is going to be nessecary.

We tried out her ear protectors yesterday too. She has sensitive hearing and doesn't like things really loud so last trip she spent most of her time enjoying everything with her hands over her ears. so this year we are prepared. Youth sized ear protectors and a crafty MIL and this is what we've got (minus the goofy face lol)

She also surprised us with rides that we thought she'd be a little freaked out by (she's a very cautious little girl lol) and she ended up loving them and wanted to ride them again so now I think I'm going to be a little more daring with the rides we do at Disney with her :) I think having her ear protectors (which she calls ear muscles lol) gives her a little extra courage to try things she might not have wanted to try otherwise

I miss living in Lancaster County!!! I use to live near Green Dragon. We enjoyed Dutch Wonderland when the oldest ds was little.

Love what your MIL did to the ear muscles! My son wears them too. He has alot of sensory issues. He does much better at movies and Disney with them!

Basketkat--how fun that you met a Disney friend in Target! I once approached someone at the library who had a "1st Visit" button on their stroller. The grandma was with the kids and she said, "oh yeah, they just got back with the kids". When I told her we were taking DD in Sept she just went on a tirade about how she was too young and wouldn't remember anything. When I told her that DH & I wanted to go for US as well, she clearly thought I was weird and that was the end of that! :confused3

!

I don't understand people like this. I have heard it so many times with DD.

Don't go all out on a first birthday, it's not like she'll remember it. Wow Disney and she's not even 2? she won't even remember it (they really drop their jaws when I tell them this is our third trip and she'll only be 4 lol)

Now I just smile and say "No... she might not remember it but I always will and when I get old and my memories start to fade I'll still have the photos"

someone said it on here once and I can't remember who but we've kind of adopted this saying as our own motto whenever people question us about WHY Disney AGAIN? "Everyone takes vacations. Some people go to the beach every year, some people go skiing, some people go all different places... we go to Disney." We aren't beach people, we aren't ski bunnies... we are DIS'ers lol

I love when we run into someone randomly and learn they are going to Disney. or have just been. Hubby just says "Oh boy here we go" :lmao: He loves Disney too but not on the obsessive level that I do I guess haha. As soon as someone says "Oh we are going to disney on this date" or "we just came back from Disney" my eyes light up and hubby warns my companion that they have no idea what they've just gotten themselves into :rotfl:

Ran into a guy in line yesterday at Dutch Wonderland who had just come back from disney with his wife and kids and we chatted about the parks and where they stayed. All because we had the minnie mouse ear protectors my MIL made lol. he saw them and it was a natural segway to Disney vacation talk haha

can you believe I have never been to Green dragon? we've driven by so many times but I've never gone lol.

The ear muscles are a life saver. We use them for lots of things. like you said at the movies, at disney, we take her to fireworks with them. Her hearing sensitivities have gotten better even just over the last 6 months but she still doesn't like things too loud (except herself lol). but it seems with the ear muscles on she's braver and more likely to try something new. It's like her suit of armor lol

Green Dragon on Fridays and Roots on Tuesdays were where we bought all our fresh fruit! I also love Raub's subs at both places, and at Raub's in Myerstown, though I usually get hamburger BBQ there!!

Good luck. Fingers crossed that you guys get a great rate and not all is lost :cool1:

No matter what, all will not be lost. We live in central FL now, so we get to the parks all the time. So no park time will be lost!

We just really savor long weekends at Disney resorts. We make our stays all about the resort and get the full resort experience. Might go to a park for EHM, but other than that it's all for the resort!

In less than 2 weeks, we are headed to CSR!! DH will have to work 2 of the days and the other 2 days he will be granted vacation days.

On the up side, this transfer put his work 30 minutes away from WDW!!!

We are going for my first trip Sept 21st-26th at the CBR pirate: which we booked a pirate room and I've tried to change a number of times because I can't seem to make up my mind about this trip. I've also changed my ADRs a million times.

I am leaning towards going to MNSSHP on the 23rd though. I just need to make up my mind on costumes. Honestly I'd be ok if I could just find cute clever shirts but no such luck yet!

I had a Disney nightmare last night, we were at WDW and it was cold (probably 60's) and we were so bored! We didn't see any rides so we were just walking around looking at stuff. It was terrible :scared1:

60's would have been a heat wave when we were there in Jan 10. 30s in the morning, maybe up to 50 in the afternoon. We still went on all the rides and had a really good time. You haven't lived until you do Test Track at 40 degrees. As long as you're at Disney it's all good.:banana:

I get so aggravated with the "Disney again?" comments. We live in FL, and are APs (how could you live 3 hours away and not take advantage?) Everytime I say we're going up to Disney for a weekend or a week I get the "Oh, again? Why dont you just move there and get a job there" Why? Its what we like! When we lived up in NY, and our kids were babies, we took them every year and everyone would give us the same rolling eyes the kids are too small they arent going to remember it...NONSENSE! I have a problem with spending money to go on cruises to tropical places when I live in south florida-this whole place is a tropical paradise. I'm not paying to stay at a beach resort, when I live in a gated community similar to a beach resort. I'm a Disney buff, my kids love disney-my husband LOVES going to Disney.
We went to dinner last night with 4 other couples and the topic of our 10th anniversary came up and someone asked what we were doing to celebrate and my husband said we are going to 2nd honeymoon in Disney-and everyone went Oh, that figures...and it got quiet and uncomfortable. What is the problem? We are active people. We dont like to sit around and lay on a beach 24/7, Disney gives us stuff to do all day as well as lounge poolside. I'm excited everytime we go. No trip has ever been the same. Its different everytime.

I must agree with you!!

Dbf and I got the same reply when we have told people we are going back for our 2 yr anniversary. They said "You are going in Sept. why are you going back in January?" Because we like it!!??

We just got our AP's, and want to make the most of them, especially the room discounts!! We live about 1 hr and 15 min away from WDW. I agree with you, I don't want to go to the beach. I can go there anytime! We love EPCOT and the whole Disney experience, it is our place. We love the different resorts and dining options, etc.

We just decided we are going for a 2 day getaway during F&W. I won't be telling people this because I will get the eye rolling and attitude.

:welcome: to the thread! I have you added to the first post! :dance3:

We came up in january too and it was bitter, the 30s. We had all our ski gear on lol and I can vivdly remember being on a tram at AK and seeing a couple in shorts and short sleeves (that must have been all they packed :confused3) I was looking at thier legs and their thighs were bright red. I thought that aint no sunburn, Oh they are freezing...I was freezing just looking at them.

Im fine with the heat as long as we can take a mid day break. Living in Florida 6 years I cant handle the cold. Lower than 50 I'm in trouble.

What are the top 3-5 food/drink items you are most looking forward to at WDW? popcorn::

Me? (in no particular order...)
-Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake from Starring Rolls
-Dole Whip (because its talked about SO much)
-Mushroom Filet from Le Cellier with Mashed Potatoes (not risotto)
-Caramel Apple from Karamell-Kuche
-Boma and Ohana (I know, this is two in one...) These restaurants are just so highly rated.

I can't wait to eat my favorite bread pudding at Boma, Grey Goose Slushie in Epcot, Dole Whip of course, the flank steak at Mama Melrose, and love the fruit cobbler dessert from Garden Grill.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has Disney nightmares LOL. I always have dreams that we are at disney and I can't get everyone moving to get to the parks and we don't end up getting there until night time and we have no time to do anything and I'm so ANGRY lol Then I wake up and realize... I have a problem :lmao:

Oh well that is good news :) especially the transfer being conveniently close to WDW

I can't help but laugh at the comments about 50 degrees F being cold! Where I live, it easily gets down from -20 to -40 degrees F for multiple days every winter! Now that's cold! LOL (I live in Central AB, Canada)

In no particular order...

dole whip at either Poly or MK, breaded shrimp at Coral Reef, bavarian cheesecake at Germany, trying a jalopeno pretzel bite at AK for the first time, and gelato at Rix Cafe.
