September 2, 2012 - Magic - NYC to Canada

Thanks for the heads up. So sad as we really enjoyed the High Tea  We don't have children either. But I wonder about the food at the Alice Tea Party as I organized a Luncheon for 5 new friends I met on the Disney Wonder's Repo 2011 Panama Canal Cruise to be part of the Princess Tea Party. They gave the females of all ages a pink sash that I think said Princess Tea Party which we had all the Princesses autograph. The boys of all ages received a sword. They had tea along with the normal beverages, sandwiches and deserts. No scones but it was still a great party. princess:

It was offered Tues and Thurs- I agree with the other poster - not real tea but apple juice and small pastries- no pink sashes or swords- it was more like a mini show about manners and sipping with your pinky out. I only saw families there with children

Someone wrote Palo dropped its High Tea? My mom and I were so hoping to get last minute reservations for that! so sorry to hear as I thought it was perfect for her 84th birthday gift -

Does anyone know of a reservation for Palo dinner yet that is not needed? We couldn't get there on the June cruise and booked very last minute this time so it was all sold out.

That's a shame that this Alice Tea isn't like the Princes Tea on the Wonder. Maybe that one was special since there were 6 sea days and they wanted something special to give us to do with our time.

Yes, it was me that mentioned that there is no High Tea. I was in shock when the supervisor explained that they wanted to offer more Brunch ressies. But then why isn't there any available, lol? They usually hold a lot of ressies to picked up when you first get onboard at the Rockin Bar usually around 1pm. There will be tables for Palo, Main Dining and the Spa so that people can make changes to their ressies and/or add them. Which is where I'll be trying to get both Brunch and Dinner in Palo if not on this cruise on the 9/7 or 9/12 one.

Happy Birthday to your mom! We can celebrate during our Mother / Daughter Luncheon :goodvibes

thank you for the bday wishes. We didnt know they did reservations on board...alot we didnt know for June NYC-Canada cruise but now we know. We're driving there this time..last time getting a cab home was horrific- since we were the only cruise at the pier..I would also like to enjoy more down time and more time at the pools- I never even saw the Cove area- can't wait. Just wish we knew what room we were getting.
:cheer2:

:flower1: You're most welcome :flower1:

:goodvibes Glad you found our thread so we could help point out tips and tricks :goodvibes

We are packing up our FE gifts and hope that anyone who is on the FE list with a daughter could share their favorite princess please, thanks! :goodvibes

I posted the following vote on FB and wanted you all to let me know please as well...

I'd be so grateful if you could help me out please. These cruises are my first official DIS meets. On the 9/12 cruise several of us mentioned how we really want to win a Spa Raffle that is usually at 3pm & they moved the meet to 2:30pm. I especially hope I win a much needed $120 massage as I do Physical Therapy for $20 1/week and a Massage Envy massage for $49 1/week b/c I've just had my 10th & 11th surgeries on 7/13 & 7/20. And 2 x $120 is double my budget for medical needs while on the Magic.

:flower3: 2:30 pm DISMeet Time (New Time Please)
:scared: 3:00 pm DISMeet Time (Original Time)

If it does start at 2:30pm it still could go to 3:45pm right before the Muster Drill. And that way it could accommodate all of us.

Your help on this is greatly appreciated! :thanks:

P.S. I've always wanted to do the tour too so how does this sound...

2:00 pm Tour
2:30 pm Start of DISMeet (we get there right as tour is finishing)
3:00pm for those of who want to win a Spa raffle we go up there for 15/20 minutes, Then return to the meet til 3:45
3:45 Head to Muster Stations printed on room key (We don't need to get life vests so no need to go to the room.)
4:00 Muster Drill

How does this sound? :scratchin

Hi Everybody,

We're Caren (another one!) and Steve. Although we're long-time DVC members (BW since 1999) we've never been on a DIS cruise before. We had banked points to use or lose before 9/30, so we decided to try something new and booked this at the end of June.

Since everybody seems to have gotten well acquainted already, we're from Long Island. We're in 7564 and have the second seating for dinner. We want to try and get into Palo for dinner, but I guess we'll have to do that as soon as we board. Anyone have a suggestion on which night might be best?

We are still debating on shore excursions for both ports. Would love to see the falls, Bay of Fundy etc. but don't want to spend hours on a bus for a 20 minute stop. Guess I need to go back to the Eastern Canadian cruise thread!

Looking forward to meeting everyone @ 2:30 in the Promenade Lounge after the 2:00 tour!

Hi Caren! Welcome aboard!

This thread has somewhat floundered since the Facebook page started. Join the group there...

I am considering private tours. Peggy's Cove hike in Halifax and visiting the sea caves at St Martins near Saint John

Just a FYI... I haven't been on the DISBoards or FB much lately as my aunt is in the hospital on a ventilator and I was hit by an employee at Michael's on Saturday with a fixture. So I wasn't on the computer much. Also, I'm on 3 B2B2B cruises from September 2 - 17th so my head is spinning from just that. When I jumped on the laptop today I had 180 notifications total and I'm down to 125 so once I get through them all then I hit the 3 DIS threads for the 3 cruises I'm on so I'm really sorry for not being up on all the updates. So if I ask a question that is a repeat please be patient with me, ok? Thanks!

Was wondering how many kids would be on the Magic Sept 2nd cruise. Our DS's don't start school until late and I know most schools will have started already or start in the middle of that week.

We have our both DS's 11 and 15 onboard. We are from Germany though but at least the older one is pretty good in English :)

My two DDs (10 & 13) will be there. They will miss the first two or three days of school (depending if we ship them to school on Fri - we are only 30 mins from the port)

I was planning on driving from the boat to school on Friday.

Hello New Yorkers!!
I've been working on making plans for our Saturday only tour of NYC!
DH and I have not been there before and lots of walking isn't a problem!
We are staying at the Westin Times Square on Fri and Sat nights before our cruise. (Arrive 7pm ish on Friday so not much time available for touring)

What do you think of these options:
Would like to see:
Times Sq Disney Store
Hard Rock Cafe, long enough to buy a city T and pin
ABC Studios Times Sq- just to see the location I see every weekday morning
Rockefeller Plaza - Top of the Rock Observation (Is it ok to get a ticket when we get there?)
NYC main Library -- quick stop to see the original Pooh Bear they have on display there--Pooh is a part of our family.
Chelsea Market- a big foodie and Food Network fan
Central Park- I know it's LARGE, but if we go to the south end of it will we see something we "should" see? LOL

Is there something in this area that should be a must see for a newbie??

I know I'm missing the wonderful museums, but I'm afraid we'd never get out of the first one and I think I need to be a bit more touristy and try to "touch" the things I've heard of that means NYC to me!

I've seen there is a Hop on Hop Off Grayline tours bus. Would this be a good idea so we could see more sights or maybe go to Chinatown or have I already planned too much to do?

I've read we cruise past the Statue of Liberty as we leave port.

OK :cool1: I'm ready for your suggestions now!!!!

THANKS for your help. I'm soooo excited to get a taste of the big city! :yay: Barb

I'm bringing my DD who is 7 years old and like the other locals, plan on driving her to school in Connecticut for Friday afternoon. I haven't decided if I am going to come into work for 1/2 (save more vacation time) or stay at home and do all the wash from the cruise.

This aint bad. In the neighborhood... Grand Central Terminal (near Library). FAO Schwarz (near Central Park). You could do horse and buggy in Central Park.

See Times Sq in the evening. Maybe a Bway show (get half price tickets at Tkts).

Chinatown... not my fav. I would vote a Museum over Chinatown (MoMa is in midtown area that you are concentrating in).

Yes, we will cruise right past lady Liberty and under the Verrazanno Br.
