I agree with Celeste that the more folks involved the more funner it would be. Do both venues i.e. a one-time ½ Marathon and a cumulative. Under $20 should be doable. The Castaway Cay thing would be too much to add to a day there.

My experience is that early in the morning I was the only person running on deck 4 at 6:00 am. Cooler and not many folks around at that time and would not conflict with other activities.

A sea day might be the best.

11 miles would be 33 laps.

“happiest marathon at sea” for sure when you are finished LOL

Celeste I sent you Tom's Email & Phone.. LOL a while back!! Tracy may have a phone number or 2 to call..lol

stick with Half marathon..

is this the sort of medal you are speaking of this is a 2005 Medal
f7_1_b.JPG

and think we could probably get some 2006 medals if needed..

While I would love to get medals like this----you can only get these if you run in the race or PURCHASE them off of ebay. I was thinking of something more like this...see link here

I don't think we can use the "happiest marathon at sea" or use a mickey medal- due to legal stuff....if we weren't on disney property I might be more willing to try it.....but I have heard horror stories of disney going after people for copyright infringment.... :guilty:

I think I could even get the "entry" fee to less than $15.00- depending on the shirts and how many colors were used with the silk screening.

Would people be interested in one day for a real run and then everyone else do it a their lesiure? I am reading conflicting stories on the board- I want to do what would please everyone if possible.

Sorry Scott, I missed your above post.

The only reason I am doing the disney marathon is FOR the finisher medal....except my knee is making this aweful bone on bone noise- I might have to defer to next year.

We are going to need Disney Cruise Line Blessing to pull this off... :wizard:
And think you should contact Jennifer K. at DCl.

Celeste ... "It is easier to ask for Forgiveness than it is Permission." :teeth:

I really dont see a problem with it..

(Scott H. this is were you chime in about maritime Law and not being in us waters.. ) :rotfl:

We are planning on walking the disney marathon and that is definitely the time and distance. Probably forty laps on deck 4. Timing and lap counting could be difficult. Also walkers could slow down runners especially at the bow and stern areas. Might have to be rules for slower participants to stay to the right. DCL might help by announcing the "happiest marathon at sea" to keep people off the running track for the 3 1/2 hours. It certainly could be doable. Alex

Well.....that shouldn't be a problem. Let's just get someone from our group to be on "patrol" and if those "other" cruisers get in the way we will just have our "hit man" throw them overboard!!!

Seems like Scott is not around....Peter, don't you have work to do????? :rotfl:

I think that as long as we don't exceed the "Capacity" sign on the jogging deck we are good to go. No permission needed.

Also.....we don't need permission to put Happiest Marathon at Sea on anything. Disney doesn't own "Happiest........." I've seen 5 million versions of that phrase. We just need to make sure if we have an entry fee that we don't put anything officially "DISNEY" on it without their permission.

That's my two cents.

Where do I send my $$$$$

One last thing- could someone who had already arranged a large group gathering on the ship contact me- maybe we could have an awards ceremony and make this a fun group activity and hopefully pick up more people as we get closer to the actual cruise date? Hopefully we will have 25 or more people.

I would suggest waiting until you are onboard to schedule an event like this. You may want to contact someone just before the 10 day sails to give them a heads up that you might be looking for space, but it was definitely better to schedule once onboard. I don't know where the hang up was, but I got two different stories from Orlando/Celebration and on the Magic. Everything is always subject to change you know! If you want specific Celeste, PM or e-mail me.

I think there will be a lot of competition for these prizes. I doubt I'll get any of these :goodvibes Now if there are prizes for talking, I think I'd be in the running for that :rotfl2: Are you up for a challenge Debbie?

Tracy

I would actually have to be on the cruise to be up for that challenge :rotfl: :rotfl2: :flower:

I can't , just seems that way to me. Then again I could come up with the rotation of the prop, and a torque factor, or the alignment of the planets, The Sputnik effect could be the reason LOL

Next he will be charting the Long and Lat of where the half marathon is and how the location affects the difficulty ;) :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

Disney trademarked images are registered worldwide and the use should be avoided. Yes, Disney is very aggressive in their pursuit of infringements. (as they should be)

Maybe DCL could do it like a catered event. If so, we should be ready to standby for the cost to be high. But we might get KWEL medals and shirts.

Deb, lets see prevailing winds, currents, ships direction and speed. Man do I have some calculating to do. LOL

We are ALMOST ONE YEAR from our cruise date, I wonder if there will be any suprise announcements at that time?

Yes, technically a marathon is 13 mile--- I thought ours would be 11 miles because we are on the ship for 11 DAYS.
I also thought is would be easy for people to think of one mile per day....unless they want to do it faster. I think this should be really easy- you want to bring your pedometer and count your walking around on the ship- I think we should count that too....you just can't count the time before you get on the ship.
I think the more people who get involved- the funner it will be, so I want to make it easy so more people will join! However in the spirit of competition I think I should give prizes for those who finish the 11 miles first.
I am looking into shirts, finisher medals, and prizes for the top three...plus some other silly prizes- but I want to keep the "entry" fee low, less than 20....heavens knows we have already paid a ton to be on the cruise.
One last thing- could someone who had already arranged a large group gathering on the ship contact me- maybe we could have an awards ceremony and make this a fun group activity and hopefully pick up more people as we get closer to the actual cruise date? Hopefully we will have 25 or more people. After we pick a group name, I will post more information.... One last thing I am not even going to try and get a mickey finisher medal....I don't want to deal with the wrath of Disney lawyers.....wouldn't be the happiest cruise on earth after that. This would be a "dis" event only.

I really like the idea of a multiday marathon. How about a 10-day marathon, 4 laps per day. 40 laps would be a little over 13 miles. Participants could compete at a set time (6-7AM or 7-8AM) with volunteers timing everyone. There could be a different timer or timers each day. It could be the "Happiest Diserthon at Sea". Medals for completing the 10 days might bring out a bunch of participants, we wouldn't need DCL help as there are few runners/walkers as someone stated, and we could gather as a group on deck 9 or 10 forward for awards. I'm ready. Alex :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

What a great idea! I'm in and I know my traveling companions, Mom and sister, will participate.

Alright Alex....
You have officially named the marathon!

I DO NOT think it will be feasable to get Disney/Mickey/DCL medals for the race.....it fear it will be too complicated and cost prohibitive. I could see about having finisher medals made up with a cruise ship on them....but once again custom work will increase the cost.

MAYBE once we get there- DCL will give us three of the gold medals they give out for contests- that I can add to the prize booty for the top three in addition to other medals/trophies.

Also, I think we could do it timed and untimed for those who want to do both....thus having running spots for those who want to compete for prizes.

WHAT SAY YE?
Please comment on the medals and timed vs untimed.

Thanks a ton!
This should be fun!

Celeste this your baby You make the rules.. Peter

Celeste, Hope you are enjoying your night shifts as much as I am :rotfl2: On the marathon, I think you would have to time it if you are going to award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. If it is just finishing medals, then timing would not be necessary, just the miles.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to post really quick before I finish getting ready to leave for the Magic tomorrow.
