I think there will be a lot of competition for these prizes. I doubt I'll get any of these :goodvibes Now if there are prizes for talking, I think I'd be in the running for that :rotfl2: Are you up for a challenge Debbie?

Tracy

Wow, go away for a day and a Marathon is planned. :) I have to wonder if Disney is reading this thread and thinking, "What are they going to come up with next???"

So what are we going to come up with next? :rolleyes1

Not kidding here either, I think it would be KEWL!!!

I think that there could even be an award for a person doing it over a period of several days.

Hey. Count me in too then. I think over 11 days I will walk a half marathon from being on the ship.

Scott-how much do I need to walk each day to accomplish this goal?

And I thought I would never participate in a 1/2 marathon.

Silly me.......... :rotfl:

Marathon Legend has it that in 490 BC an army from Persia landed on the plains of Marathon. The Athenians descend on the invading army as they were preparing for battle. The Athenians win the battle and send a runner back to Athens to announce the victory. After the 26 plus mile run and making the announcement of victory he drops dead.

I defer to Celeste on the distance for the ½ marathon. I thought it would be 13 plus miles, but I have never done one and she is in prep for the WDW ½ Marathon.

So if a person did a couple of miles a day (6 laps) for six days they could get it done. Insert a sweating smile here.

Just think of the extra calories that could be consumed. :teeth:

I looked at some of the last posts and see a marathon is in the planning for our cruise ... We're with Mike & Kathy ... we'll do the countiing and water handouts. If you can do the marathon spanned out over the length of the cruise, I may join in :rotfl: cause I'm good for a few laps a day but not 36 all at once! ALSO ... should the length the ship travels while the laps are done count for something?

I think so! Isn't it harder to walk on one side more than the other because the ship is going in the opposite direction :confused3

Yes it is. It is always harder going from stern to bow. Really.

"Half marathon participants MUST be able to compete the 13.1 miles in 3½ hours (16 minute mile pace)."

We are planning on walking the disney marathon and that is definitely the time and distance. Probably forty laps on deck 4. Timing and lap counting could be difficult. Also walkers could slow down runners especially at the bow and stern areas. Might have to be rules for slower participants to stay to the right. DCL might help by announcing the "happiest marathon at sea" to keep people off the running track for the 3 1/2 hours. It certainly could be doable. Alex

I can't , just seems that way to me. Then again I could come up with the rotation of the prop, and a torque factor, or the alignment of the planets, The Sputnik effect could be the reason LOL

Yes, technically a marathon is 13 mile--- I thought ours would be 11 miles because we are on the ship for 11 DAYS.

I also thought is would be easy for people to think of one mile per day....unless they want to do it faster. I think this should be really easy- you want to bring your pedometer and count your walking around on the ship- I think we should count that too....you just can't count the time before you get on the ship.

I think the more people who get involved- the funner it will be, so I want to make it easy so more people will join! However in the spirit of competition I think I should give prizes for those who finish the 11 miles first.

I would love to do a triathalon- but I don't have the information needed to really plan it, unless someone can email a DCL employee and get me this info....also I am afraid that fewer people will join as we actually approach a real competative event...maybe we could do both?

I am looking into shirts, finisher medals, and prizes for the top three...plus some other silly prizes- but I want to keep the "entry" fee low, less than 20....heavens knows we have already paid a ton to be on the cruise.

One last thing- could someone who had already arranged a large group gathering on the ship contact me- maybe we could have an awards ceremony and make this a fun group activity and hopefully pick up more people as we get closer to the actual cruise date? Hopefully we will have 25 or more people.

After we pick a group name, I will post more information.... :cheer2:

One last thing I am not even going to try and get a mickey finisher medal....I don't want to deal with the wrath of Disney lawyers.....wouldn't be the happiest cruise on earth after that. This would be a "dis" event only.
