I think everyone is doing that nasty thing called WORK :rotfl: I, on the otherhand am still stuck in GA. That's the trucking industry, folks. SIT and WAIT. Load cancelled this AM, so now we are not leaving out until tonight, but with a straight shot to Nor Cal which is a lot better than having to grace LA with our presence.
I guess I could take this opportunity to brag on my ds16 (actually my stp sn but we are very close). He has just been chosen to be a student ambassador for his school to Portugal, France, and Morocco. Dear old dad and I are both doing cartwheels as this child was a D student just 2 short years ago (what a difference homeschooling on a big truck for a year can do for a kid). He is very excited as are we. Anyone know anything about Portugal? I'm gonna have to do some research. We are beaming proud at this accomplishment. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

That is very exciting news indeed! Not only are congratulations in order for him but for the two of you as well as you both played a huge part in his accomplishment. FANTASTIC!!!

I'm a little disappointed....I was expecting to spend my entire lunch break catching up on posts. Instead I only had to read one page. I may actually have to read over my lunch break!! What's up with you folks?

I think the storms over Chicago may actually be done!

Sorry to have let you down. I will try to do better! :rotfl:

I also know what you mean - I ususally read during lunch at my desk and when there isn't much there I am just lost.

I actually had a lunch break today :cheer2: Went out to lunch with others from the firm. Awfully full now, I could use a nap.

1) Favorite beverage - Konk Koolers, Bellinis, Chocolate Paradise

2) Favorite Color - Red

3) Favorite Childhood Character (it can be non-Disney ... if U dare!) - Mickey and Tink

4) Favorite Disney Dish (spouses are a valid option) - Chocolate Souffle from Palo

5) Favorite moment from ANY cruise (or vacation for those 1st timers out there!) - being with my family each time we sail - starts when we land in Florida and doesn't ever end as it lives on in memories, we just keep writing to that book.

1) Favorite beverage - Pepsi

2) Favorite Color - Blue

3) Favorite Childhood Character (it can be non-Disney ... if U dare!) - Mickey

4) Favorite Disney Dish (spouses are a valid option) - Chocolate Souffle from Palo

5) Favorite moment from ANY cruise (or vacation for those 1st timers out there!) - When my DH and I were introduced the first time we stepped onto the Magic and any time that I am with him.

Carol

Thanks a lot! It's amazing what a little encouragement can do for a kid who made bad grades because he didn't think he was smart enough to make good grades! He just needed to realize that he was just as smart as the other kids and he just needed to focus more. He was under the illusion that no one else studied! :rotfl2: He now has good study skills and great potential for college. :cheer2: :cheer2: Knowing that one of his teachers suggested him for this is just the icing on the cake.

I know what you mean. I just left Cracker Barrel and I am STUFFED! Their biscuits and gravy gets me every time! I need a nap as well! Hope you had a great lunch

AWESOME!!! Good for him and good for you doing the homeschooling!! What an effort on the part of you and your son! I would love to do homeschooling, but I need to finish grad school first.

Portugal, my parents have been there. I remember they said it was very expensive and a lot like Spain. Other than that, I don't really know too much.
We did a christian based program that was cd-rom so he could do it on the road with no problem. We also made him read books and write papers. The state of GA (where he lives with his mom) believes that parents can take responsibility of their childs education and doesn't put requirements on WHAT to teach your child. Our goal was to help him catch up on the things we felt he had missed. We felt he just didn't get a lot of things and that his teachers had just been passing him through anyway :sad2: I would reccommend home schooling to any one who has the 1 on 1 time to spend. Plus he also got to travel the country with us and do some really neat things. He now sees the importance of college. We said "You don't want to have to do this the rest of your life, do ya?" He doesn't (thank God)

P-in-T, Congrats to your son, very well done. I can relate.

Biscuits and Gravy are a quintessential food. Bubbas here in Jackson has some of the best I have ever had. Once when on the Magic having breakfast, I ordered a skillet type meal. When it came I said to myself boy, biscuits would be great with this. Asked the server for some biscuits, he gave me a funny look, and then returned with a plate of cookies. Then it hit me most other countries often call cookies biscuits. I guess I coulda jumped up asked the chef for some flour and lard, salt, and baking powder and whipped up a batch. LOL

That's too funny! Cookies and gravy! Have you ever had Chocolate gravy and biscuits? It's made just like white sawmill gravy just with no pepper and cocoa. YUMMY! :stir:

Chocolate gravy , first thought is yuck, then ya think about it and it sounds interesting.

I know it sounds gross, but it is amazing! Too bad my dear great granny passed on with her original recipe. Now we are left to guess at it. Her's was always the best though. It looks nasty even but it is heavenly! :lovestruc

OK you two, PIT and Scott H, you have to stop with the food talk....for those of us trying to stick to the diet, YA'LL ARE KILLING US! I was not hungry until I read the last 3 post.

BTW, PIT, Congrats on your son's schooling...we are considering home schooling our Little man. He will be in preK 5 this year, we have several friends that started their kids in kindergarden and then home schooled from there.

Have a safe trip to CALI...

Plus, if we home school, we do not have to take him away from his classes if we take another cruise...we like the early fall trips!

We have talked with several other families on past cruises that were home schooling, they can get credit for visiting the different islands and doing some type of report on what they learned.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read this before you have gall bladder surgery. My dh was set to have it (emergency) and our good friend Mark suggested he try a liver/gallbladder flush first. He did it for the complete seven days and went to the doctor for a pre surgery exam and he was as good as new. It envolves lots of apple juice, drinking olive oil mixed with lemon juice, and drinking epsom salts. We do this about every other year to stay healthy and you wouldn't believe what your body can accumulate! I can't post attachments or I'd post exact measurements but you can Google it and get the info. It is an energy booster as well, I swear I feel great afterwards! :

Hi P-I-T - thanks so much for the info. In fact that was the reason that I'd waited, I have a friend that is into homeopathic medicine and she was always telling me to flush but was never able to give me a jumping off point. Now - I have it - as for the containing, I do real well unless my kids are stressing me out and that's actually what has been happening the last 3 weeks - otherwise, I was going about 2-3 months with only slight attacks. Workable with vicodin pills or hot baths. So I considered myself lucky until July - then again - as mentioned, I had 3 b-days, 1 anniversary, 1 poker get together and a MOMENTEOUS (sp?) emotional rollercoaster - all in all - NOT a normal July!

LIke you I'd give anything to avoid surgury! :rolleyes1 Don't react well to anethesia. (sp?) Oh well - NOTE to oneself: short short notes - my #3 :bounce:

I strongly recommend homeschool as long as you have other children in the neighborhood for your child to interact with. This was a different situation as ds faced being failed a grade so we pulled him out of school and caught him back up to speed. Kids just don't get the 1 on 1 they used to in school as classrooms are overcrowded and teachers are underpaid. Homeschooling allows you to take control of your childs education to ensure they succeed. Being in Alabama you might want to check out DayStar Academy. This is a homeschool operation that allows your child to homeschool then participate in "normal" school functions with other homeschool students. We had friends whose daughter did this and got to go to prom and have senior portraits taken. Something to google, although I don't know what they do for the younger children. :teacher:

OMG! I take a day off and there have been 19 pages posted.
I don't know if I can read that much. :lmao: Will give it the ol' college try.
We only need 5 pages a day to reach 10k.

Here, the heat has finally abated. Light shower right now. Warmer this weekend and sunny :sunny:
