Sept. 7, 2012 - Magic NYC - Canada

We are definitely parking at BWI. I live pretty near the airport. I also find it easier to get in and out of than Penn. Are you going up on the 6th?

Which schedule are you looking at for the return? I can't decide between the 11:30 or 12:30 departure. I am hoping to get back before the beginning of rush hour. But not sure if the earlier departure will be cutting it close when trying to leave the ship.

We have been on a number of Disney vacations, and cruises, but our one and only daughter will be starting her freshman year in college in August, and we thought it would be nice for us to get away, with Disney to celbrate this new stage in our lives. We found this trip yesterday, and it is on our favorite ship, so we booked it. We are so excited that we have something to look forward to this fall.

Welcome. The Magic is also our favorite ship! Sue

It looks like we will be in Halifax on Sunday. Ii have been on line checking to see if anything will be closed or opening later. I may have to rethink our excursion. I was hoping to explore,on our own in the am and get back to ship in time for the excursion. But if things are closed or opening late this changes things.

On Sunday, shops open at noon. Maritime Museum of the Atlantic at 9:30am after June 1st. You will find Sunday morning to be very peaceful. Any specific questions, feel free to post!

Ted
Bad news for us and others who were going to get off the ship early and explore the waterfront shops.

Thanks for that post about Sunday opening times. Looks like excursions might be the way to go for the morning.

I have the Shipmate app on my iPhone. I've been looking at their Halifax and Peggy's cove excursion. It leaves at 9:00am. That would give us the afternoon to visit the shops.

Glad to get the info about Sunday morning. I was concerned about this also when I realized we will be there on a Sunday.

Not sure what excursions we want to do yet. Hopefully we will get some feedback from earlier cruisers.

I know I keep bouncing between a few in Halifax and the possiblity of booking with someone other that DCL. We have never done that and DH isn't very comfortable with the idea.

I think we may be the only cruise that arrives in Halifax on a Sunday, not to mention that the first cruise goes out on June 10th and many of us will have already made excursion plans.

The Halifax Seaport Farmers Market is opens at 8:00 am on Sunday.

i am just about ready to book our train tickets. $62 each way from Richmond VA better than the $300 round trip via plane. Any way there is an 11:30 train out of Penn Station. Our itinerary shows leaving the ship at 8:30. I believe we have plenty of time to get from the port to the train station but wanted to double check with some local folks. Sue

The taxi ride should take about 15 minutes from the port to Penn Station. Plenty of time to make the 11:30 train. Even if there's a lot of traffic, given it's a weekday in the city, there's still plenty of time. The taxi ride should cost about $15 with tip - give or take a couple of dollars depending on traffic/wait time.

Well our train is booked as well as out hotel. BFF had enough vacation points to book the Lowels Regency for us. We are set except for the shore excursions.
New question for the New Yorkers. Another friend is driving with her DH from California! They are retired. Any way they are looking for a hotel at the airport that has free parking and airport shuttle. Thought they would stay there the night before and the night after the cruise and get Disney transportation to/from the ship. Any suggestions???
Thank you, Sue

Which airport? There are many in the area - Newark, LaGuardia, JFK - just to name a few.
On the main boards there's a thread that has tons of NYC info including parking/hotels near the airports or even doing a park and cruise at a nearby hotel. Have a look thru that thread and you should have all the info you need on what your friends are looking for. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2704317
Check the first post for links to info.

Thank you. They plan to be a whichever airport Disney is doing transportation to the port from. I forgot about the number of airports. The area I come from that is not an issue :rotfl2: and we can't fly almost anywhere without a stop first!
