I need advice! I am trying to decide how to pack FE gifts, including a large # that require special handling. Does anyone know if I pack these separately and mark with distinctive "Fragile" or "Handle with Care" stickers if the baggage handlers comply? I have also read that folks ship their FE to DCL, does anyone have any experience with that, and how I could arrange? How much time is needed if shipping? Am GTY and still don't have cabin #. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would just carry them on board. Just make sure they are packed well for you to carry them on and for the recipients to carry them off. I wouldn't think or expect them to comply with Fragile stickers on a box - that would be either for checking an item at the port or mailing a box. Keep in mind that DCL says that any fragile items should be in your carry on luggage and not in checked bags - that's why they say to carry on any and all drinks that you take with you.

I believe it's too late to mail anything so it looks like carry-on is your only choice.

When we talked to Avis in Halifax. They said that we needed to call them. So if people are renting from Avis in Halifax and want to go together on the shuttle, we would be willing to do that.

We also rented a car from avis in st. John's as none of the excursions appealed to us. They too offer the shuttle service!

I think we've decided to walk. According to Tom's port guides, it takes Avis 20-30 minutes to come after you call. We're good walkers, and we could be at the pickup location before we'd get picked up.

Good luck - is this his first year? I have two in college - one in her 5th year living away at school and the other in her 3rd year (just moved home in February). I know how hard it is to send them off.

We survived the dropoff yesterday (he's a freshman, but checked in early for marching band.) I think it helps that we have to go back on Wednesday to move him into his regular dorm. I was really sad tonight at dinner, when there was a big space at the table, and more shocking, leftovers .

I also posted this on our Facebook page. I am making something for the cruise and would love to match up everyones real name with their Disname. Hopefully this way we will all know each others names when we are on the cruise. Also, if you could let me know the names of the people in your group.

I understand if you do not want to share - but as we are sharing a cruise together hopefully we can all get to know one another.

Lauri I will be feeling your pain in 1½ weeks. DD will be starting her first day of college on 8/27 down here in FL and I fly back home to DE on the 29th. It's going to be weird flying by myself and leaving her here to enjoy the sun and palm trees. At least I know we'll be back down here the beginning of Nov. and I may try and sneak in another trip the end of Sept./beginning of Oct. if possible. The joys of dual home ownership and not having to make hotel reservations in addition to flights.

Well, I just left my son in DE, so maybe you can check up on him for me when you get there. I'd be happy to make a trip down to FL to check on your DD.

I guess he's at UD then? Which dorm will he be living in? We live about 5 miles from campus. Used to live much closer, but moved just outside the city about 9 years ago. We'd had it with college kids......never could stand them and still can't. No offense to your son or any other college student, just get tired of them taking over for 9 months of the year. Our street was getting taken over with rentals full of kids and we didn't like that the area didn't have a family feel about it.
The worst part is that my DD has the same feeling for college kids which is one of the reasons she wanted to come down to FL for school and also to get away from the snow and to work for Disney. I guess she did listen to some things growing up. LOL!
No problem you can come down here and check up on her if you would like.

Welcome Donna! I wish I could go to the mother/daughter brunch as well. But my daughter will have entered her 26th week of pregnancy and of course is banned from cruises. At least I got to sail with her, my SIL and my cute little granddaughter in June but on that cruise there wasn't a large group of adult daughters sailing with their moms.

Yes, DS is at UD; he'll be living in Russell when we help him switch dorms on Wednesday. I know what you mean by living near college students. We have a community college two miles down the road, and it gets dangerous to drive when school gets back in session.

I envy you with a 2nd home in Florida. We've talked about doing that, as we'd eventually like to retire there someday. With the housing market down, we thought it would be a good time to buy, but we're not sure where we'd like to be.

We bought our house down here 3 years ago and got a great deal. There's a lot of new construction in the Disney area, not sure where they think all the people are going to be coming from to fill up the new houses and apartments. Our neighborhood is building more townhouses, there's 2 new single family home divisions down the street, a new apartment complex one way down the street and another one down the other way right next to the back entrance to Magic Kingdom. It's completely unreal all the new construction.
We'll eventually move down here permanently, just not sure when.
I was certain that I wanted to be near WDW and I succeeded, we are right behind the back entrance to MK.

I was wondering the same thing. We've all seemed to be move focused on Halifax.
