Isn't it fun to look back and see who posted? Especially in the people with one or two posts. On some longer waits (our 10 day had 18 month wait period) we had many many people with one or two posts and then they disappeared.

With that thread being over 26,000 posts at the end we would post every once in a while to see who were the top posters.

On our May '06 cruise we are already over 10,000 posts and have taken on the slogan Il pochi il fiero i blabbermouths :)

That is what prompted me to post the question I did on the main board a week or so ago. Wondering why some do and some don't post on their cruise meets thread.

Good morning , Mary. How is Chicago area? Currently , here in Indy , it is 66 and cloudy. I think Scott was the leader in the Panama thread. I'll try and post a little more and see if I can catch him. I need to make some coffee today and get to work. Angela is still off her feet in essence. She can place 30# of pressure on her left foot and see what happens. She is suppossed to start seeing patients part time in the next day or two.
Bill

Good morning Bill. It is a bright sunny morning her in Chicagoland. Got a little rain yesterday which we dearly needed.

Glad to hear Angela is coming along. Tell her not to do too much too fast. She needs to be healthy so she can enjoy the cruise!

I think I was #2 poster on the 10 day thread. On our May '06 thread I think I'm #6. On both threads we've done some silly things to entertain ourselves like celebrating when we get the top of a new page and we try and grab the major milestone posts. All in fun as a way to get to know each other.

It seemed like this thread doesn't have that same feel. Maybe because while we are all DVC'ers there are some new cruisers. Or those that have cruised before had other cruises planned that took their time. That's why i took a much more low key approach to this thread. Trying to stimulate conversation from time to time but not as much fluff as on our other threads.

Either way I think the meets board is a great way for people to get to know each other. I can't wait to sail with all my DVC friends!

You know, you're right. We don't have near the participation that other threads have. It doesn't seem as though the DVC'ers even know that we are here. You know, I've tried to get Veda and Sarah to post and just can't seem to get them involved. Maybe shortly as the trip nears they will try a little harder. I think they would greatly enjoy it. Veda is working 12 hour shifts and then comes home to take care of the entire home. She needs a pat on the back . THis trip is just the thing. The only concern is if a family member passes away or a disaster occurs. That could cancel the trip. I had to mention this possibility to her yesterday and it deflated her attitude. It's not like I want that to happen and I hope it doesn't. We have a 99 year old grandmother that Angela will be called on if something occurs. No Choice, she's the only one. Oh Well.
Off to work,,, talk to you later.
Bill

Different threads have different feels to them. I think the group we had on the 10 day (many of whom are going on the May '06 cruise) was just really really comfortable with each other. So we've become friends.

I know that even on those two very popular threads there are people who have only signed on once or twice and then kind of vanish into the woodwork. That's find except when they are disappointed in the end. i know on our 10 day cruise there were people who showed up at the very end who had been there early on and said "oh we missed the buttons, we missed the shirts, we missed signing up for brunch". Or "how did you know when to book excursions". We had extra buttons (blanks) that we told them about but they never came for them. Vicki had extra shirts but I don't think they ever approached her either. To me the cruise is what you make of it. I can last 4 days, 7 days, or 10 day. Or in the case of our 10 day it has lasted over 2 years thanks to the thread and getting to know each other. At least 8 families from the 10 day are sailing together on the May '06 cruise (we all booked onboard). We try and see each other when we can (like when Mark and I had lunch with one family while in WDW last month). We are even talking about a 2007 cruise to Alaska together....with or without Disney. I think the people who only post a couple of times miss out on this.

Or maybe they just want the cruise to be about them and their family which is fine as well. Different strokes for different folks.

Time to get to work. Have a great day!

Hey Bill,

I just might be able to catch you in the # of posts. ;) No chance of catching the others. I was actually really surprised to see I was in the top 10 posters. Don't know how that happened.

We really did need the rain. Timing could have been a little better.

We went to a Schaumburg Flyers 6:20 baseball game last night. They play not far from our house. We've sat through so many of Cameron's baseball and Walker's t-ball games this year, it was strange to think we were all going to watch a game together.

We left here about 5:30 thinking the rain was going to subside. We sat like this -- :umbrella: -- until it finally started drizzling lightly at 7:50. By the time they started playing, it was well after 8. Fireworks followed the game and it took us almost 45 minutes to get out of the parking lot. We could have walked home faster than sit in the parking lot going no where. :confused3 Oh well. The kids had fun and I'm still off today. Gary got up and went off to work so I'm sure he'll be dragging tonight when he gets home.

We were talking about how quickly the cruise is coming up now. It really won't be long. We're off to Hilton Head the end of this month. When we get back, it will be time to get the kids ready for school to start. Before we know it, we'll be off to Florida. We are getting excited, although I heard from Cameron yesterday that Disney World is getting "boring". :faint: :earseek:

Good Tuesday morning everyone!

We spent the long weekend in Chicago visiting family & friends. The weather in Chicago was spectacular. We went to the Taste of Chicago on Friday and then spent Sat & Sun catching up with friends. We tried to do a little cookout yesterday, but got rained out. Our flight was delayed out of Midway, so we didn't make it back in to Tampa until Midnight. Then, I forgot a bag on the plane, so we didn't end up back home until 1am. I am so tired this morning. Bring on the caffeine!!!

I can't believe that the cruise is going to be here before we know it. My birthday is in a couple of weeks, then my oldest goes back to preschool in mid-August and then the cruise will be here.

Does anyone know if it's too late to get travel insurance? And, if it's not, does anyone know who I can get it through, since we booked on points?

Well, back to go find some more caffeine, and keep working on my laundry.

It wasn't last week when it occurred to me that we still didn't buy ours. :flower:

I booked with the flyer which was included in our confirmation (I think it's Travel Guard -- kind of hard to tell from this flyer). We booked using a combination of points and cash. The number listed on here is 1-866-690-6858 and it says to refer to id#007004.

I know the cut off date is coming quickly as when I called, they had to make sure it wasn't too late. I wouldn't put it off much longer.

Hope that helps.

Glad you enjoyed your Chicago trip. All the years, the Taste of Chicago has been going, we've never been. Amazing how something can be so close, yet so far away. One of these years, we'll try it.

I'm wondering if DVC will be giving us hats instead of shirts since there are shirts on the form of available merchandise for us cruisers. I know it will be something special but just wondering if anyone else was thinking this.

Wow - lots of posts and posters = a great group of DIS/DVCers looking to have a great time together!!! :goodvibes

LOL, I was just talking to Sam and reminding him that school starts in 5 weeks... let's just say it wasn't one of his happier reminders! :rotfl2: I then reminded him that he was going to get to skip a week of school to do the cruise and WDW. Tell Cameron that our older one (actually Sam's aunt) complained that WDW was boring when she was in high school, so we went without her :earseek: . It became a lot less boring very quickly. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yuck! I hope not... especially if they go with those baseball caps. I am not a baseball hat wearer. Now, if they made if a nice floppy hat, or a visor that doesn't connect in the back, I could be persuaded to accept it... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Cameron's only 10 so leaving him behind is NOT an option. :rotfl2: Although I'm tempted to take Walker alone in February for his birthday. I'm sure Cameron will do his share of grumbling then. ;)

Once we get there, Cameron will be fine. The "boring" comment came when he asked what he was going to get for his October birthday this year. I told him "a trip to WDW" as the two of us are going in early October. I guess that wasn't good enough or the answer he expected. It must be nice to be 10 and spoiled by how often you've been the Disney that it's no longer a treat. See what DVC has done to us? :goodvibes :earboy2:

I'm sure Cameron's going to be the envy of his friends. Two trips to WDW in 2 months. I know that's more than a lot of kids get in a lifetime.

Good Morning, Mary! We didn't even know about the DIS boards until we started looking into purchasing points last year. When we finally found the threads, I bookmarked them. Then when we started having different questions about the cruise we wondered if perhaps there was someone out there that would know - lo and behold - there is! I would check in from time to time to read all the posts, but still felt like an outsider. Finally, I decided our trip could and would get a lot more interesting if we joined in! Now, you're my second stop every morning and I can't wait to see what everyone is doing!:Pinkbounc

We've had so many other big "life events" happen since we booked the cruise that we were getting bogged down by it all. Since we've joined the boards, we're getting excited about the cruise - we all need that carrot dangled out there to keep us motivated and filled with anticipation!

Thanks posters for keeping our eyes on the prize!:flower:

Kristi

I'm starting to get things in order. I got the insurance last week. I signed the kids up (2 for the club and 1 for the lab). I have only been on the cruise once before. I signed up when we got there. Now that I signed them up on line, what do I do when we get there? How much time did I save? Last time it was a little crazy. I will start the magnet sometime this week. I can only do it in the AM while the oldest are in summer rec. (they still don't know about the cruise). Who knew I could keep a secret for 8 months? I need to get my posts up. I read every day, I just don't have too much to say. Since we are now keeping track I don't want to seem like a slacker. :teeth:
Till next time,
Chris

I'm not fond of hats either. T-shirts would be nice but then I wonder why we bought them. I wonder if they are thinking that most people will buy the shirt and then they can plan on us wearing them for the picture? I'm certain not everyone opted to buy them so then what?

I like the picture from the 1st member cruise with all the matching t-shirts. I'm not sure how they could have that same impact with hats?

:sad2: :sad2: You really ARE an amateur aren't you??? :sad2: :sad2:

You don't offer to leave him ALONE. You offer to leave him with the family member he would least like to stay with. Or you offer to have that family member come stay with him so he won't miss any school. And you don't offer to do it for the special "mom and me" trip. You offer to do it for the Member Cruise/Disney/ miss school trip! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No need to thank me. I don't charge extra for my pearls of wisdom. :rolleyes1

I think this might be a lot of the reason why you see so many low post counts. This cruise has quite a few people who already know each other, and in the beginning, I felt like I was attending a class reunion at someone else's high school. Then I decided if you want to throw your reunion on MY cruise ship, go right ahead, but you better leave room for me on the dance floor. :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

Mary, I'm with you... it will be nice to meet and sail with new DVC friends. :boat:

BTW... I'm happy with our thread...

If we get into a posting frenzie just for the sake of "keeping up" with the highest poster,, or being sure we don't drop of the first page, I know, I won't have the time just to keep up with the reading :faint:

This pace fits me just fine.:flower:

Just think... we are now under the 2 month mark! :Pinkbounc
