Yeah, we've had that happen a couple times as well. We don't see the maitre'd until the 2nd to last night. Then he shows up at the table to say "hi". I'm sure that he's really saying "Hi, don't forget to give me my tip". LOL!

The table mates happened to be at Palo that night.

I'm not involved, but for planning/packing purposes, I'd say that if you haven't heard from them by Wed noon or something like that..... that you should take the off the list. It's not fair to the others. And it's kinda rude.

I agree with Jules. We had some late comers to the FE that may have missed the cut off. And if those two people drop that haven't been in touch, the new comers could get FE gifts if someone hadn't arranged for extras. Anyway, JMHO.


Maitre D: Don't understand this position nor why they get a tip. I'd be more than happy to give one if someone could tell me their purpose and how they go above and beyond to make my cruise experience so wonderful. Totally not meaning to come off rude. The head server is your escalation point for any issues that you may have.

They act as the shift boss in the front of the house.
There are many items that they do that you are not aware of.

The head server often will help to serve food to the less needy tables. It often seems that sometimes a group of servers get 3-4 tables and one is always really needy. (Usually mine!!!!) The head server serves as a swing food deliverer. So while you may not see he/she at your table they are helping out at the needy(my table) to allow your servers to give you ample face time.

In our case they are very attentive to our childrens allergies. We also have used the head server for special orders.

What also needs to be realized is you will see your waitstaff all over the ship at breakfast and lunch. Sometimes you will even get you same servers. You are tipping for that service as well. During Breakfast and lunch our head server also would find us an assist with our allergy issues.

It is a bit chaotic when everyone wants extras on lobster tails etc. and the head server needs to make sure thing are done in a fair and timely manner keeping in mind that they need to do a changeover pretty quickly for the 2nd dinner seating.

There is always that family that likes too come 45 minutes into first service....

We should be able to see Toy Story (the original) in 3-D on Friday, the day that it is released into the theaters. When I called DCL about movies onboard, they did not indicate if Toy Story 2 would also be showing, although it is also being released in 3 D on Friday the 2nd.

Toy Story 3 will be in theaters on June 18th of next year. You could always book another cruise......

In all honesty, Kiki did all the hard work... I just helped stuff bags!

DS loooooves Toy Story, so we'll have to take him to the 3D show. Not sure how he'll react to wearing the glasses, though.

The last person we are waiting for (PenskeSth1) has not logged into the DIS since July 31st. I have sent her a message via email to see if she is still cruising and has just not signed into the DIS (crazy, I can't even go more than several hours much less nearly two months! ) or if they have decided to take a later sailing. If we do not hear back what do we want to do? Keep them on the list on the off chance? Take them off? Let me know what you think!

Wow Just think one week from today we will all be dressed up in our best for formal night.

I'm almost packed just the last minute stuff. I'm charging all my batteries now (digital camera & Video camera)

I guess we can take all those off without a cabin number. We have not been able to get in touch with them up till now, and will not know how to find them next week without cabin numbers.

I have also finished packing except for last minute things. Should be able to finish most everything else Thursday night. I can not wait to be all dressed up for formal night...it is the only time I get to dress up...

All camera batteries have been charged and are in camera bags.

You'll all be proud to hear that I did some reshuffling and taking stuff out. I have managed to get rid of one checked suitcase. So as of now...1 maximum dimension 60 square inch suit case that will be checked (praying it's under 50 lbs since I destroyed our glass scale last week by dropping it on the bathroom tile while moving it out of the way). NO, I WAS NOT WEIGHING MYSELF! I also have 3 carryon suitcases, 3 carry on personal bags and that's it. The personal bags are pretty much filled with a laptop, MP3 player, DS, leapster, and everything needed to make sure my children don't melt down on the air plane.

And the only reason this happened is because DH was like...WTHeck. Why do we need all of this stuff. Some words were exchanged including the following..."I will repack. BUT, and a HUGE BUT...I refuse to do laundry on MY VACATION. SOOOO if we run out of clothes, you are doing the wash." With that, I marched downstairs, took stuff out, and made it all fit. I seriously don't know how I did it.

I'm on load of laundry #5 for the day! I guess the hard part of packing for a cruise this time of year is that we're still wearing shorts and tshirts every day!

Our last cruise was in December so that was a different story!

FE Gifts are all organized and PACKED in a suit case! First suit case officially COMPLETE.

Phew, our DDs first birthday party was a success today! The cake eating did not fair so well. She was out of the highchair after a few bites of frosting from her big sister. I think all the people staring at her just did her in! LOL! We will try again on Thursday evening since that is her real birthday.

Packing begins tomorrow after I drop my 4 yo off at preschool! Woo hoo...just a few days away!
