Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

Here's what I know about the schedule after calling DCL the other day:

Formal Night - Mon., 9/24
Semi-Formal Night - Thurs., 9/27
Pirate Night - Fri., 9/28

Julie

Thanks!

btw for moms of 3-year-olds... I just tried to book nursery time for the kiddo for formal night (so he could sleep in the quieter room) and just found out that when they say "3" they don't mean THROUGH three. They mean "UP TO" three. Which is insane, because not all three-year-olds are completely potty trained. I guess we'll play it by ear. It'll probably sound something like a overtired toddler.

EDITED: What I'm really starting to panic about is, what if he has an accident and he gets bounced from Oceaneers - then there's NOWHERE for him to go? I mean he has only had 2 accidents in his potty trained life but they were both when he was doing something super fun and exciting so it's possible... gotta let go of the stress, I guess. Didn't really expect any significant "adult time" anyway... What will be will be. Que sera sera. Oy vey.

I would not worry to much. On our last cruise our young 3 year old had just completed potty training (just in time for cruise) and she had no problems in the club, although she wasnt there for long periods of time. If she needed or missed mom or dad the cm's texted us on our wave phone and we were there.

I have heard tons about formal night but haven't paid any attention to that fact that there is also a "semi formal night"

What is that? I mean other then it being "semi and formal" LOL....here in AZ those words probably mean a lot more casual then other places...for example when I went to semi formal and prom in high school we dressed the same at both of those events--neither one was "less formal" then the other....but I don't want to show up to semi formal night and be "over dressed" either...

Is there a benefit to requesting a certain dining room rotation so that a certain one aligns with a certain special night? If yes what do you all prefer the most??

Thanks!

I would just make sure that he goes to the restroom right before he goes into the club. Then you could even make a quick stop by there to remind him to go again (if it has been a couple of hours).

I would hope that they wouldn't boot him out for just one accident.

Semi formal is just a step down from formal. Example DH wore a full suit for formal night but just the shirt with tie and vest (oh, and pants, LOL) for Semi-formal. I wore full-length gown for formal night but cocktail length for semi. But you will also see men in khakis and polos that night and women in sundresses or capris, etc. Plus there will be people that don't dress up at all.

For this cruise, I probably won't be bringing my formal dress and just wear the same type for Formal and Semi-Formal.

My cruise documents arrived yesterday!! I have to say it was kind of anticlimactic for some reason!

I'm kind of torn on the formal night...I don't really have something formal, maybe a little black dress, but that is short. DH will not really be interested in trying to fit into his tux. :rotfl2: I also am feeling lazy about having to pack a dress and too many pairs of shoes!

I called Costco Travel to verify the food allergies and they made a call to DCL and confirmed it was already noted. It's kind of strange that I don't see it anywhere. I was very impressed on how nice and helpful the Costco Travel Agent was, I mean super super nice and pleasant. I guess I'm used to dealing with jerks in Customer Service! ;)

Good evening! I feel like I have been 'gone' for ages but the wedding was wonderful - and the office not so much but. I need to just let go - anyone know how??

The wedding was just beautiful and the happy couple is in the Dominican Republic (anyone been watching the weather, not really a good place to be later this week) on their honeymoon. I am trying not to think about Isaac and hoping he just dies out - or turns around and goes out into the ocean. The weather could not have been better - no rain and only in the 70's during the day.

Postcard list - check your PM's and let me know if I missed you.

Well, not much more to report I guess. I will get a few pics up as soon as I can.

Congratulations again to the Happy Couple!! I figured you were busy with wedding stuff. I will keep my finger's crossed that Isaac is on his best behavior and leaves the honeymooners alone :thumbsup2

Hum, I don't see a PM. Am I on the list? I thought I rsvp'd but now I don't remember.

This is our first cruise so the whole formal and semi formal night was new to me. I am having fun with it though - I never get a chance to dress up! I actually found a great formal gown at Macy's for $89 so yay! And then I found a ton of semi formal dresses on the 70% off rack on their one day sale so score again.

I also am having nursery issues. Our youngest turns 3 three weeks after the cruise and I would prefer he went with his brothers in the club. He is ridiculously verbal and is used to being with them. I think he will FLIP in the nursery. I was told if he was potty trained then they should most likely let him in the club since he is so close. That being said this past week he has decided that randomly after months he is scared to go number 2 in the potty all of the sudden. it is KILLING me that he is backtracking out of nowhere! I am traveling with all three kiddos without dh and so I was hoping for some sort of time alone from my boys craziness but I fear if he has to go in the nursery because he does not snap out of this then he will flip. Blah!

We just got back from a week at Disney World and it was wonderful!!! Now I can focus 100% on this cruise :) Now to see what I have missed ;)

Hi... I think DCL might really be (excuse the terrible pun) missing the boat re: the three-year-olds. They're all in a weird no man's land where they can't go to the nursery but aren't totally perfect on the potty. I don't know many 3yo's who are, quite frankly. I am just hoping for the best and preparing mentally for the worst -- (i.e, hoping for some alone time with DH but not counting on it)!

re: clothes - I can't believe I missed the one-day sale. Argh! Hope they have one again before cruise time. Also I'd like to drop a few lbs by then (HAHAHA who am I kidding)

That's annoying about them not taking actual 3yr olds in the nursery. I was given the option to register my 3yr old for the nursery when I did all of the other info on the DCL website. I wonder why it would come up with that then? Not that Summer will want to go there because her brothers will be in Oceaneers and Lab but I thought I might as well do it.

Gail, I didn't get a pm either, but i definitely want to do the postcard exchange :thumbsup2

ADandBsmommy, we're not going all out formal wear for the formal and semi formal nights. Reason one, we don't dress like that here so would have to go out and buy or rent a tux and gown etc, reason two, we are already having to add in an extra suitcase just for the shoes and clothing for these dinners, plus costumes and FE gifts, I was not adding in suit bags etc!!!
I'll be wearing either black pants and a top or just a knee length dress, no heels just flats.
We actually weren't even going to do the formal night for that exact reason but the lovely ladies on here talked me into it ;)

Just booked our first Disney cruise and I am just discovering all the fun things people do. (Decorating cabin door, dressing up for Pirate party, Fish Extenders, Scavenger Hunts, etc.) I have a lot to get ready over the next few weeks.

We are just two sisters (Becky and Stacie) looking to have a fun time and any opportunities to enhance our cruise would be great. We don't have our cabin assignment yet.

Is it possible we can still participate in the FE?? This is my first post so I can't PM yet, but looked like the FE cutoff was on Thursday.

Wish I would have discovered this forum a few weeks ago, when I booked the cruise. I'm hoping to ready through the entire thread, but figure it will take several days.

Snap on the clothing. It's an Antipodean thing, black pants and flats. Actually I can't wear heels after running myself over and DH being so short. Also I'd hear my Dad nagging at me for wearing heels on a ship, we always had to wear flats when yachting.

Gail
- Would it help if I said we were the last plane off Rarotonga in a Cat 5 Hurricane for our honeymoon? We literally aquaplaned down the runway in the high winds. It was odd watching the news the night after and seeing all the people from our resort who couldn't get on the plane in hurricane shelters camping out.

Atmail35 - I'll have to ring DCL and add something to the list for my sons intollerances. I completely forgot he had an intollerance to vinegar until he came home with welts on part of his body from a volcano experiment in the sandpit. Poor kid had got vinegar and sand on his hands and then scratched himself and it'd gone bad quickly. :scared1:

I finished the final bit of handsewing on my FE gifts today.:cool1: I sat down and bagged and tagged them all. Now I'm just waiting on room assignments and I'm done! The kids tried to inspect them and got told in no uncertain terms to keep their fingers to themselves.

Postcard Exchange - open through end of day on August 28th. This is just an exchange of postcards (that are local to your home area) with your fellow DISer's. If you would like to participate, please send me a PM by the end of day next Tuesday and I will add you to the list (we currently have 9 participating). You can get me your cabin number when you get it. I will just distribute the list at the Meet and Greet on Sunday or get it delivered to your cabin.

jetskigrl and AussieMumma - got you!

Well, still nothing new here, other than I am NOT watching the weather! We were on the Magic the cruise that Hurricane Jeanne returned Friday evening instead of Saturday morning and that was as close to an encounter as I ever care to get - and I am someone that always sails during hurricane season! We managed to fly home even before she hit Florida. Boy, I sure do miss Northwest, they were awesome. Delta would leave me, I am sure (or charge me some huge sum of money).

Take care and have a good day/evening!

Welcome back!!! I'm glad to hear you had a great time. I do want to get back to WDW someday. We did our one and only trip so far in August 2010. But we went all out...10 nights at the Poly (club level, theme park view), Special AK tour, Fireworks Dessert party, etc. We only did that because we knew it would be almost a once in a lifetime trip. But now I think we set the bar too high for future visits (there is no way we can repeat that one financially....we saved up for years for it, LOL).

Looks like our cruise is filling up, IGT and VGT are no longer available...

Ohh, I hadn't noticed. I wonder how that looks for our VGT assignments. I'm so curious to see what we end up with.

Welcome to the group!!!!! We have quite a few adult-only groups on this cruise (including me and DH who are leaving the kids at home this time). I'm looking forward to really enjoying the adult areas since we have only had limited time to enjoy them on previous cruises :thumbsup2

Shoot, I am questioning what I will be wearing now too. I have put on a lot of weight recently thanks to my ongoing back issues. And I'm too scared to pull my good dresses out to see what still fits :rotfl2:

Got our cruise docs! YAY!

Want to see what you all think about this little "silly disagreement" I am having with my hubby about the number of luggage tags---

There are 4 people in our cabin--so how many luggage tags are there?

I say that there are technically 4 tags for each person...as there are 2 LONG strips with each person's name on them twice with double bar codes on them and on the back of EACH one it specifically says to turn it into 2 separate tags....but he thinks they are supposed to stay as long strips and each person only has 2 tags.

Not that we are going to use 4 tags for each person in our cabin its just a silly disagreement we are having so thought I would poll you guys and see how you read it...LOL

Each person gets two tags (they are attached together). After taking those apart, you only take the backing off the top (or bottom, I don't remember) and then thread the long tag through the handle of the bag and seal the top/bottom together. My guess is that it is printed twice so that they can read the person's name and barcode from either side of the tag. :thumbsup2

Well - I have been on 13 cruises and I have always just done one long strip (so two tags per person) - I never noticed if they are scored horizontially or not.

Gorgeous day here - blue sky and not much humidity. Love it when that happens, just love it. I forgot to mention that I had noticed the IGT cabins were gone (as are the inside rooms for that matter) but when I looked last night, the VGTs were still posted. Must be filling up.

I still need to do something about transportation from LAX to GC but will use either Super Shuttle or Prime Time. I also want to do a dry run with packing at some point - if I can get it all in 2 bags (would mean a tux for DH probably) but it would be much easier to manage. I think I am set clothing wise although I really would like a new pair of sneakers for the walking I anticipate, especially Muir Woods as I expect that to be trails and not paved, otherwise I can wear my Birks.

Well, have fun planning - I need to go backwards and read the last month of posts as I feel way out of it. :welcome: to our new members since I have probably have missed some of you.

Ugh, I have been so busy with trying to sell my place that I haven't focused at all on this trip in the last little bit. Just realized I still haven't figured out how to get from the hotel in Anaheim to the port. Sigh. There are not enough hours in the day!!!!
