Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

I would certainly be interested in the cabin crawl but we are VGT so I won't know our cabin assignment for a while (and even then, we may try to upgrade at the port so we may not know our cabin until the day we leave). We have always sailed in the same room type so I think it would be really cool to see the other rooms :cool1:

We are also on a GTY and are going to try to upgrade at the port, but we'd be in for a cabin crawl if we get something that nobody else has. Won't know til sail day though. We did this on the PC Repo in '05 and it was really cool to see all the rooms I will never in a million years be able to afford. (Or, more accurately, be willing to spend the $$$ for one cruise when I could go on three or four for the same amount of money. :rotfl:) It was also good to see the secret porthole and verandahs, sideways rooms, etc.

Happy Friday afternoon! Sunny and 78 degrees here - this is my kind of weather. Heading to the lower 50's this evening so great sleeping weather too.

Not much to report - FE's have remained constant although without Nancy, we are down the number I reported earlier by one. I will get the final list out tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Happy Friday to everyone. I have a question for the SanFran residents and/or travel pro's. The onboard Alcatraz Tour is sold out for both days, I am wondering if there is a regular Alcatraz Tour from the SF port? If so, are they relatively all the same or is there a good one? Do they depart from the same general area as where our ship will be docked?

Gunka - several of us booked Alcatraz tours directly, the place they leave from is so close to where the Wonder berthed that it is just so easy to save money (like a two minute walk with preschoolers). We booked the day the 90 day window opened on the Alcatraz tours.

Bill - I read your comment to DH, he says "I'm liking this man alot". He can't wait to run around in circles at odd speeds and see what it throws up on his run record. I told him to run up and down the stairs too and see what happens with that.

JSG - Have I told you what happened when we went to the Gold Coast in Aussie? DH printed Google maps out to navigate down to Broadbeach. Total trip time should have been an hour. Due to Google not printing exit numbers on the exits and DH getting completely lost the trip time was FIVE hours. There were mutliple stops for directions and I was hissing at the end of it (kids were 2.5 and asleep in carseats). Next morning he comes in with his work cellphone and says 'you know, I have GPS on this - I should have used it'. Now he won't leave home without the GPS and is muttering about downloading SoCal maps this weekend.

Score on the Disney Store thanks to JSG. Kids will have some Disney stuff waiting for them on arrival and I've bought a DCL watch given I'm not confident about sizing without trying stuff on. :cool1::cool1:

To do the Alcatraz tour on your own there is only one boat company to the island. You can book with them directly at alcatraz cruises dot com.

Hello all! We booked this cruise a couple of weeks ago. It will be me, DH and DD who will have just turned 3. So excited to see a little group of 3 yro's already. YAY! We are new to DCL so I can't wait!! :yay:

I know we're jumping in late, but I'm soo excited to be joining you all on this cruise!

We've been holding an onboard booking on the Oct Pacific Coast cruise for ages, but recently found out it will be impossible for DH to take time off work then. It killed me to cancel that cruise and lose all our booking benefits, but the GT rates on this cruise made it a bit easier!

If we're not too late we'd love to join in on the FE exchange. We were on the first ever Dis Boards FE cruise, I can't imagine cruising DCL without participating.

I'm excited to see the FE list! Thanks Gail!

For Costco members I found this, which have discounts to some CA themeparks:

Also you can get $100 of Ghiradelli Gift Cards for $80...although that is a lot of chocolate to buy in SF! You can use it online too.

There was a power hit last night that lasted over an hour and our water system lost pressure. Now we are under notice to boil our water for the next day or so.

Laura says to give the dog bottled water. I say the tap water is still cleaner than the gutter the dog drinks out of when we go for our walks.

Oh well, I know when to do what I'm told. :rotfl2:

We have well water (I have the best tasting water ever since we have so much sand) but it is really hard but the good thing is, I never have to boil it.

FE Group - email is out with the final list. Please let me know if I have missed anything.

I took a nap this afternoon - not good as a power nap for 10 or 15 minutes is OK but I would be inclined to say I slept for over an hour. I hope there is something good on TV tonight as I think I will be up.

Take care and enjoy your weekend!

Hmm - I'm with you Bill, the dog probably has a better immune system than the entire population of Texas put together. However, if Laura has said boiled water it's easier to give the dog boiled water than having Laura worry the dog will get poorly.

Are you on tank water at home? My parents moved rural and had a high tech filtration system fitted for their tank water. It looked like the deck of the Starship Enterprise twinkling away on the wall of the garage and Dad was ever so proud. He'd had a hospitalised round of giardia once and wasn't being caught out again.

Gail - yay, can't wait for the final list for the FE. Thanks for coordinating it. Is there a seperate one for postcards or is everyone on the FE also doing postcards?

Atmail35 - I want Costco. :sad1::sad1: I love Costco. NZ doesn't have Costco, the nearest is in Sydney, Australia. I used to shop at Costco every weekend when I lived near Liverpool in the UK.

FE List has officially closed. Watch your emails as I will get the updated list out today.

I literally just got off the phone with DCL and booked for this cruise. Can we squeak under the wire and join the FE list? Please! Actually, I know it's a lot of work and hassle to revise the list and send it back out, so I totally understand if it's too late. Just let me know or PM me. If it's too late, I'll see about starting a new group. Thanks and we're happy to be on this cruise! There will be me, DH, DD (13) and DS (9). This will be our third Disney cruise - the other two were in Europe.

When we sailed in February they ended up doing two groups. I have a feeling there is going to be plenty more people joining - especially at the prices they are offering. We didn't book our last cruise until one month before and we were still able to join a FE.

BigDisneyOE - I love Costco as well - I used them to book this Cruise and I will be getting a Cash Card from them. I am actually cooking ribs right now that I picked up there on Friday. An awesome recipe from Sam The Cooking Guy - called Sweet and Sticky Ribs.

The original FE list has closed but I agree with gunka in that others may want to join in on the fun of FE's but that group will need a master list keeper.

:welcome: to the cruise and the thread! We're really heating up now! All those good deals are really working. Looking forward to getting to know all the newbies over the next two months. :thumbsup2

Oh I love his recipes, so easy! I once took a cooking class with him, it was so fun! I like how he uses a lot of ingredients you already have on hand versus some recipes you find that have very obscure ingredients or too many complicated steps.

Thanks for doing all of the organizing! Getting the list was quite exciting, as it made me think how close we are to this vacation!
sorry for duplicating info in pm and email, I didn't realize my sister sent you a pm when I emailed...clearly I'm also up too late, but am not sure why as I didn't get in a nap.
