Yes, we did think of that....her DH is very insecure...didn't want any kids so he could have Mary to himself...jealous of the time the girls require from Mary...hence the trip last November WITHOUT the girls...:sad2:

:sad2:

Hey all:hippie: I miss conversing with you girls. It's been a hectic few months, so I don't have much time to play. Haven't even read half the posts.

My husband has decided to take new job, after 27 yrs with the same school district. The new position is suited for him but he will be doing ALOT of work from home:scared1:. I am furiously seeking employment, dread the thought of him being home all day. I'll never have time to Dis:rotfl2: On that note, I have decided to possibly list the house. We live in a very small community, closest Walmart/Target is 35 miles. Our doctors, hospital & any entertainment are also there. I love living in the small town, but am getting tired of driving to get everywhere. So , we have been painting, landscaping, repairing & replacing since our return from TN.

DS #1 turns 10 on Fri:eek: He is our little firecracker. I was beside myself when he was born, I didn't want him to have to share a birthday with our country:confused3 and have a red, white & blue birthday cake every year. What kind of cake does he want??? You guessed it- red/white/blue/stars/stripes:rolleyes: Same cake for the past 5 yrs, why do I worry over stuff like this?
DS#2 finished baseball last week, his team won the championship. Thought we were done & he was then picked to the all star team. Another month of ball & traveling:scared:
Hope all are well & planning fab trips. Miss you:flower3:

:rotfl: Too funny about DS#1 and the b-day cakes. I guess us parents just worry too much.

:cheer2: about DS#2 making the all star team. Sorry you have to travel more though.

You have been busy. I don't blame you for wanting to live closer to everything. It is hard having to make those drives all the time.

Just had to share my sweetie and her new hat. Not a great pic, but we popped the hat on and took a pic with my cell. Sophia will be 10 mos old tomorrow - time sure does fly!!

Sophia6-6-099mos-1.jpg

M&N, what a cute picture and what a well loved child. I love to see that. Love the hat as well. Do YOU have one to match? You and I know how true that joke of mine is. I remember being able to run over the hills without a hitch. I miss it too. You youngsters should be grateful for what you have and may you always have it. :goodvibes

Bonz, where are you thinking about moving? If your hubby is home all day it is a good idea for you to find some other place to be. Too much togetherness is not good. How can you miss him if he never leaves? I hope all your plans work out.:wizard:

Diva K, Yikes!:scared1: Diva Mary's hubby sounds just like my Tom. He worked second shift so he did not have to share me with the kids. He once told them that he only put up with them to have me. His attitude has made it that he no longer has me, although I do not think he notices or minds, as long as his life does not change. Not good, not good at all. Does she work outside the home? If not, does he insist that she not? Does he tell her that only he could love her because of all her faults? She may well need a good friend if any, or all of those things are true. There are many kinds of abuse. Only one kind of love and that is wanting what is best for the other person.

Getting ready to rain here. Hooray! Inside work for the afternoon. Baseball game tomorrow.

Cleaning up the rest of the thrown salsa in the garage this weekend, cleaning out kitchen cupboards and other fun stuff on my days off. In spite of it all I will still find time to read a bit, sip some iced tea and get some sleep, which I rarely get to do. Life is good, not great, but good.

DITTO!!!! :thumbsup2

Aww, thanks you guys for the sweet words about my peanut. It was one of those 95+ humidity days - we'd gone down to Southern Pines for the day - doesn't that just sound pretty? It was too. :)

No hat to match, SG, but I have weird small head and cannot wear hats - never found one that either didn't fall to my eyes or fall off. Couldn't even find a graduation cap to fit...geesh., hope it's not true..small head, small brain!!!! :rotfl2:

He's not a bad buy....just very insecure, sensitive, fickle.
Case in point...when my DM was here we (Mary, Mom, I and kids) were going to drive to Fredericksburg (@1north) to have lunch at a favorite German resturant. My DH ended up working from home that day and said DS could stay home...when I called Mary to tell her my DS wasn't going she said her husband took the day off and would ask if he would keep their girls so we could go kid free....not only would he not keep the girls, he insisted on going with us! I drove, my Mom, Mary & her husband and their two daughters :crowded:
it was very uncomfortable, awkward...if he wanted to spend the day with Mary and the girls, she should have stayed home with him or their family could have gone themselves....it was just very weird that he horned in on a Ladies Lunch date...to make matters worse, Mary & her husband both had two beers each (and at a German resturant they are huge!) and were very giddy on the ride home (no beer for me, I was the DD and don't like it anyway) needless to say I couldn't drive home fast enough! :drive:

Mary teaches exercise classes for a few hours three days a week...she typically teaches in the morning while the girls are at school...its only a problem if she teaches in the evening and he has to tend to the girls :sad2:

I can't imagine a life like that.

:offtopic: I think I have eaten at that restaurant in Fredricksburg. Are they famous for their potato salad? My old office decided to have a team building day and we drove to Fredricksburg to eat and shop and I think that was the restaurant we ate at.

The potato salad is warm and strangly sweet, not my favorite...but I LOVE their Jagerschnitzel!

OMG, that would be soo uncomfortable. I would have stayed home and not imposed my DH (and girls) on everyone else. Mary must be used to it and not think when such occasions arise...but gosh, I could not do that to my friends. It's really kinda sad.

I love jokes, thanks for sharing.

Bonz,
I missed you. I hope you find a job soon so you can get away.

I am in the same situation with where we live and it does suck when you live so far from things. I wish I could get my DH to agree to get the house ready to go on the market.

Tell Gar I said Happy Birthday and I hope he has a wonderful day. Enjoy that patriotic cake. lol I totally understand.

Tell Gra I said congrats on making all stars which is awsome. Enjoy the ball games. Soccer starts soon too are the boys doing that too?

M&N,
Just saw the pic of GD she is adorable and looks just like a little girl I used to babysit for.

Linda,
Tom is lucky to have you still.

Kristin,
DM's DH sounds like a real fun guy. I guess you can just be glad your not married to him. lol

Ok I am getting out of here for the day. Have a great day everyone.

I am not comprehending the Dining Plan...

you get 1 TS, 1CS and 1 snack per night and they expire at midnight the day you check out...
We check in Sunday and check out Saturday (DH, DS and myself)
My parents check in Sunday and check out Wednesday

BTW I did have a glass of wine with dinner!

P.S. Mary emailed me this afternoon asking if she could borrow a certain piece of jewelry to take on the cruise....of course I will give it to her when she drops her girls off in the am! :headache:

Are you ABSOLUTELY SURE you haven't misplaced that piece of jewelry???? ABSOLUTELY SURE??? :thumbsup2

DDP - it was confusing for me too...as soon as you check in, you have your plan for that day and everyday thru midnight of the day you check out - which explains why so many guests have extra snack credits and stock up for snacks on the way home.

You're at POP, right? I was last summer and it turned out to be quite easy and fun!! You won't believe the hot fudge sundae you can get at POP - I had it as a snack, but read on the DDP thread that others have had it as a dessert. Breakfast was weird at POP as I had to get 2 drinks. :confused3 But I used a CS for my last morning.

I decided not to worry about getting the most for my "money" as many guests do on the DDP - I just wanted to enjoy having it and not worrying about cash. We had a great character breakfast at Ohana - we had a later reservation so it was more like brunch for us - perfect. Sci Fi was fun too, but some thing we wanted wasn't covered and that was a bit disappointing b/c we'd read it was. Can't remember what we ate now

Due to the storm I was at POP alone for 2 ngts, so did not go to a park, but enjoyed having the DDP - especially since we were refunded the cost by the SSR manager b/c of an incredibly beyond rude front desk CM. We were on points for 2 ngts and paid for the other night - she also refunded the paid ngt!

Anyway, someone else will explain far better than I, so don't know why I'm still posting this long diatribe!

So, you get 6 TS, 6CS, and 6 snacks, your parents gets 3 of each. Even though you check out, you can still use any of the unused until that night. Did that answer your question? Now I'm wondering if I am correct. We always end up with extra snacks. The last summer I purchased 13 rice crispy treat Mickey heads and took them home for gifts....ok, they weren't all gifts.:rolleyes1

I like M&N theory, have you found that piece of jewelry yet?

According to the flyer the free dining plan is good for stays for packages 4 nights or more August 23- December 17. You must book by October 3.

Hope this comes your way MS. Linda..

You gals are the BEST! :rotfl::laughing: :grouphug:
Not only did I give her the jewelry, I also gave her some Bromine for Kids that I had bought for DS when we took our cruise to Alaska last summer (for what its worth, she asked for it, I didn't offer!)
Heres the best part....I had bought some pins off ebay months ago for the kids to trade while we were there...I know it was innocent but one of Mary's girls asked today if she could have her pins b/c she was going to trade them on the ship! Of course I gave them each a couple of pins and told them to have a good time...am I pathetic or what :sad2:

*Still looking for Donald's Safari Breakfast on 8/19
and Le Cellier (don't laugh!) on 8/22 for dinner :surfweb:
I just got an ADR @Le Cellier online! :cloud9:
Its later than we would want, 8:15pm, but beggars can't be choosers! ;)
Now I can sleep (literally!)

Diva K,

Here is what I know about the DP and I have used it several times, all free, of course. :goodvibes

Each person gets one TS, one CS and one snack for each night booked at the resort. (unless you are on the QSDP in which case you get two CS, two snacks and a refillable mug)

It is my opinion that the DP does not save you money but it is very convenient and if you do not care to eat, or are not able, off site it is more valuable.

Many CS are large enough to share so if you have folks who want breakfast you can share a breakfast CS and have a shared lunch/dinner CS later.

There is a mindset that getting your money's worth is what you should be doing. In that way lies disaster. You end up eating stuff you do not want and doing without things you want (my case a large iced tea) and then have to make an emergency run to Goofy's to get dozens of snacks that will, in all likelihood, end up being melted or crushed on the way home.

If you opt for the TS you will spend any saved money on your tips. No problem if that is what you want to do though. Breaking even is not a bad thing. Most of the time you are able to trade a TS for a CS and two snacks. You tell the person at the CS podium that you want to trade and they will give you a voucher for the 2 snacks to be used later along with your CS meal.

If you find yourself with extra snack/CS credits left the day you check out you can buy stuff for the trip home, have breakfast before you leave etc. The credits expire at midnight of the day you check out.

I have read reports that you can trade a dessert for a piece of fruit etc. It is hard to believe but a person can actually get sick at seeing yet another piece of chocolate cake. I give mine to a child sitting near me, with their parents approval.

If you are a breakfast person you can use a snack credit for a sweet rolls, some resorts even have biscuits and gravy for a snack point, and use your refillable mug for your drink.

You can request a bottled water in place of your drink with a CS and have them give you a CUP of free water with your meal. If dining at a TS place ask your waiter for a To Go cup for your beverage so that you can take one with you when you leave. In September this info is very important. When I eat at my resort I use my refillable mug and get a bottled drink for my CS meal to take back to the room for later.

You can get a free CUP, must ask for CUP or they will sell you an expensive bottle of water, at any of the kiosks that have water. It is the law that free water be available. Some places will only give you a cup of ice and then you have to fill from a water fountain. Hydrate, hydrate.

I would advise you NOT to get charging privileges on your room card. Many reports of folks paying cash for their tip and later being charged yet again.

There is a freedom with the DP in being able to get what you want when you want without worrying about the cost. It is NOT a money saver if you are paying for it. For two people it is not nearly as great a deal as it would be for you and yours though.

Go, have fun and do not be stingy with yourselves. Eat what you want rather than what is most expensive.

BTW, have you checked out the sticky on approved snacks? I print mine out and take with. Nothing worse than having a good snack and then finding a great one a few steps away.:rotfl:

SG/Linda

Diva K, congrats on the Le Cellier ressie. I have found that as long as you have a ressie you can show up early or even a bit late and get seated soon. You so remind me of who I used to be. I just finally got worn out and am not nearly as nice anymore. I have found that I do not resent people so much when I do not overdo.

Timmie, some days I hope for the code, other days I contemplate canceling what I already have. It is a toss up.

M&N, sounds like that sure was an interesting trip to get all those freebies etc. Hope the pleasure was more than the pain. BTW, I can out diatribe you any old day.

Diva Mary's hubby just sounds like a man who has figured out how to get his way. I do not think men evil. If woman had the power that men have had for so long they would be just as rotten. A balance of power is better for all concerned. IMO These things do not happen overnight, it is gradual and women are often so busy trying to raise their children that they can delude themselves into thinking all is well until one day they wake up and find they were just the household help or entertainment instead of being a partner. Inertia is a bad thing.

I am doing something very out of character next week. I have booked a senior trip, by myself, to see the King Tut exhibit. I do not plan to tell you know who that I am going until the last minute so he cannot find some way to derail it. I also plan to tell him I am going with friends so he will not wonder why I am not taking him with me. I figure I will surely know someone on the bus. :yay: Most people get at least one or two days off a week. I do not usually get that each month.

SG

SG, can't wait to hear about your trip!

You gave some gread advice on the DDP. A couple of notes, I've never had a problem with double charging, but I have never paid cash for a tip, except for one time. Our first trip the tips were included with the DDP, then on the next one they weren't and we couldn't figure out how to handle it. I now have the same issue trying to figure out the Tables in Wonderland card.:sad2:

Also, Disney finally realized they needed to note snack credits on the menu's so now most (ok, I'm not sure most, but I have noticed) menus have a little DP symbol next to the DDP items at the CS places.

Diva K, I know it isn't funny but I had to laugh when I read about the pins, but it was the daughter that asked and I would have done the same thing. And :cheer2: on getting Le Cellier. Sounds like this online booking system is working. Of course, I also worry about computer issues and 50 people showing up all at once fore the same ressie! Haven't heard anything like that happening though.

Hope you all have a great day!
