Sept 20,2011 Wonder Repositioning Cruise

We all ask questions Ms Robbie - that is how we learn.

DH is Dear Husband, DW is dear Wife, DS is dear son, DD is dear daughter, DMIL - dear mother in law...

I can't answer the question about the coffee card, as this is my first cruise :cheer2:

The Cove Cafe has the coffee card and after you buy so many coffee drinks, you get one free.

I noticed your DH is 64. Have you always lived in San Diego? I graduated from Kearny High School in 1968. I know I am putting my age out there, but when I saw San Diego, I just had to ask :lmao:

Suddenly the cruise seems so real, we booked some stuff earlier this week...

Now I'm realizing that I'll have to find something other than jeans to wear for Palo.

Hee!

I have been contemplating doing a Palo brunch (we've never went to Palo on our first cruise). From doing some reading, it looks like if we had to choose only brunch or dinner, most seems to like the brunch slightly more (plus its slightly cheaper, lol). For anyone here, what do you think?

Or should we forgo Palo again, and just spend more time with the family?

My opinion is that I love, love Palo Brunch. My favorite thing is the Salmon Mousse. My BFF and I have done the brunch, dinner and even the tea. If I had to choose one it would be the brunch.

I totally agree! And I love the salmon mousse too!

Leave some brunch spots for me! :rotfl:
I want to do brunch (despite what I've heard about the chocolate lava cake at the dinner) because while it seems natural to have a relaxing adult brunch without the DS4, since he'll most likely want to spend all day in the kid's club regardless of our reservations (this is a kid who on his first day of school, said "Bye, Dad!" ran off to play, never looked back, and says "Awww" when he has to leave his friends to come home with us), to me dinner time is going to be family-together time and I like to eat that meal together at home or vacation. Plus that buffet looks amazing.
But if dinner is all I'll be able to get on either night 4 or 5 I'll take it ... after Victoria would be too rushed, night 3 would be the only non-repeat restaurant, but Ensenada will be a short day for us if we go ashore at all. I've read too many good things about Palo to not want the caloric splurge. With 2 sea days for brunches, I'm still going to try at my 75 day mark.

Just looked at Disney website and brunch and dinner are the same surcharge amount now :(

I agree that dinner time seems more like family time to me too. I also have a DS4 who would probably love to be in the club while we are at brunch, then we'd just need to leave DD(will be 1) with grandma and uncle or if they want to come too, then at flounders, assuming she will go there (she has never been left with anyone except grandmas).

Is the $20 surcharge worth it? (we don't usually splurge on dinners out or anything like Palos).

What days will brunch be available? Just the sea days?

Do the brunch Crystal...it is sooo worth it. Dinner is fabulous also, really you can't go wrong either way. High tea is probably something you can miss altogether though IMO

I have lived in San Diego for 22 years, and graduated from San Diego High. My DH has lived here for a little over 40 years, but graduated from High School in Carmel, Ca. (I won't do the math though :goodvibes)

I am also hoping to book a Palo Brunch, but we can't book until July, so I am thinking it might be something we will have to do when we get on board

Just called DCL and switched to Main dinning seating :)

Also found out that night 3 is our Pirate Night and night 4 is our Semi-Formal night :)

No info about what nights are "repeats" for dining rooms though, wasn't showing up on their computer.

:woohoo: Thanks for finding that out! I've been waiting on ordering the DS's Pirate costume + Halloween costume for DLR until I knew for sure that we would be having a pirate night on this cruise since shipping is prohibitive. Last time my TA checked (about a month back) DCL still had no answers.
We also just switched to main dining ... can't imagine trying to keep the little one up for the late dinner, even with the time change; worst case scenario we'll also order a bedtime snack. Circadian rhythms always take over when we travel though. As for repeat restaurants - does it not just go, Rest A, B, C, A, B?
As to Palo being worth it - my main argument for it is the same one as for spending on Blue Bayou at DCL: when are you going to eat that stuff at home? Never. (Okay for birthdays/anniversaries rarely we'll get filet mignon) We live on a budget at home, and still have one on vacation, but splurges on experiences we don't have access to at home are almost always worthwhile.

Thanks for finding out the information as far as Pirates and Semi-formal nights. I guess we will now have a reason to pack our Goofy and Mickey Pirate ears.

We usually are on a budget too, but I have been trying to put extra $ aside for the trip, but will have to see where we are at when we go as to what we will actually do.

I've never had any problems getting a brunch and a dinner at Palo - but if you want to really just book one - I agree it should be the brunch - it really is fabulous & you have the rest of the day to burn off those extra calories!!!

Semi formal dress for women: Does a black cocktail dress count? Does anyone wear a gown? Is it whatever makes you feel good?

Oooooh this is going to be fun!

It's also showing up the morning of the Ensenada day, FYI.

They hold back a certain number of bookings for boarding day, I've seen the number at like 50%, but I don't know how official that is.

We are only silver members so we can't book until 90 days out, which makes it June 22nd, hopefully I can get a brunch reservation at that time, so I can arrange for flounders too if needed.

oh yes a black cocktail dress would be perfectly fine - I hv seen a couple of gowns but not too many - maybe because of the extra space a gown would take up in a suitcase

WOW! I go away for a couple of days, and this thread grew by 4 pages!!! Boy, you guys have been chatty! :rotfl:

My work is closed on Monday because it is Memorial Day, a work holiday for my office. So around here we call that a three day weekend. I plan on doing absolutely nothing since I've spent the last two weekends running around to different events (graduations, recitals, etc.). I wish I lived close enough to WDW or DL but I'm in St. Louis. Plenty to do in St. Louis, just nothing as nice or exciting as WDW or DL.

I was in your neck of the woods this weekend for a wedding. I love St. Louis. I live a few hours from there, but ironically, I've only been to the arch once and have NEVER done any of the other touristy things there. One day, I hope to explore that town some more. It's really a neat place, but honestly have never actually gone out and done anything there!!! :sad2:

Cute -

Can I ask a silly question - be patient - I'm old :flower3:

There are abbreviations working at figuring out - what is a DH?

Also, do you know if there are coffee card or the cruise?

You'll also hear me say FH and that means Future Husband, since I'm getting married in just over THREE MONTHS!!! :yay:
