Hey everyone, I am soooo behind. Terry's granny died on Sunday so I have had the in-laws staying and the funeral today. Will have the in-laws for a few more days and I am finding it impossible to find the time to get on.
Somebody please PM me if I have missed anything important.
:flower3:
OK, will try to catch up next week, I promise ;)

Sorry to hear about Terry's granny. You seem to be having a busy sad time and will be really ready for this vacation.

Sorry to hear about Terry's granny. You seem to be having a busy sad time and will be really ready for this vacation.

Hi Marilyn, I hope this doesn't sound bad, but we're not too sad, it has been coming a long time, She was 89 and is now at peace. So not sad, probably just relieved.
It's just having the in-laws here I have been busy, busy, busy!!!! ;)

Been busy with a very sick kiddo but wanted to add some info that may be redundant as I haven't had time to read through the thread :) So I apologize in advance if this is all repeat.

Platinum cruisers out there, FYI on the EBTA we were offered a Galley/Stores Tour as one of the Platinum experience choices. If offered, I HIGHLY recommend this, we got to see so much and it was so interesting (we were taken down into the coolers, refrigerators, saw all the stores, what brands, etc.). This was a great tour and photos were allowed.

At the Barcelona port there were shops that sold sundries and liquor. There was water available for purchase but the only bottles we saw were the huge ones (I believe they came in a six or eight pack). Maybe bigger than some might like to carry on excursions. The prices in my opinion were not bad at all.

In Gibraltar, we used US Dollars for everything. We took the standard tour offered by Taxi Drivers when we got off the ship and it was wonderful and not expensive. If you are planning on the cable car, the line got incredibly long and there was a problem with a group on a DCL excursion and they did not get to do the cable car. The groups that departed first for the excursion, i.e. managed to stay ahead of the pack had no trouble. I'm pretty sure DCL ended up refunding this excursion for more than a few people and hopefully has better planned this time.

If you have kids 5-12 on the EBTA they offered the sleep over in the club/lab. This was a ticketed event, so if it is offered and done like last time you had to go to guest services and get the tickets and while they seemed to have plenty it was advertised as "limited". Our kids loved it.

Another thing we loved if they have it again was the Princess at Sea Tea :) This was held multiple times depending on your dining rotations and was in the afternoon (thinking 1 or 2 o'clock).

I think I saw someone asked about a talent show? On the EBTA we had both a guest and a crew talent show.

Madeira was wonderful, we did it on our own but a lot of people used Daniel's and they all loved their tours!

I hope everyone is healthy, packed, excited and ready to cruise.

We will be doing a mad dash to get done in time to leave for London on Wednesday, now was behind with dd being so sick.

Any ideas of times folks?
are the tastings an hour.

Gizmo, have you updtaed the navigator with the tastings?

I think they are normally scheduled for one hour. Perhaps we should schedule the room tour for 1545 to give us a few minutes to get there?

BARCELONA GROCER: There was a conversation or two about a grocery market in the metro area of Barcelona. I've either lost my note about it or didn't save it. Does anyone have record of where that's at?

It's indeed feeling like fall here. It got down well into the 40F's last night. It's 7:40 am now, and it's a brrrrrrr 49F degrees. I LOVE fall, but seeing trees already turning (very early) and falling down is sad.

I don't know if it's the weather or allergies, but I've been sneezing a lot. So I think I'm going to take cold medications to try and keep any illness from coming on.

Hoping everyone has a good, productive day!

The scrapbook pages are beautiful!! I love the snow white

Thanks, Abby! :goodvibes

Laura sent me a text about 2 hrs ago....looks like they have added her son Andrew to the WBTA cruise next week! I have not seen him since 2006 so I am excited that he will be sailing with us. She now has 2 of her 3 children sailing with her and DH.

Awesome! Quite a change in numbers from just 2 months ago!

This puts things in perspective as to why we are a little nervous :scared1:

4115914.jpg

Whoa. A picture *IS* worth a thousand words.

....So, I didn't give myself the injection of the medicine this morning and I felt SOOOOO much better! ....

That's encouraging! Hopefully there will be a better med for you when you return!

SAN BRUNO, CA (KGO) -- Mulitple homes are on fire after a large explosion in the area near highways 280 and 380, Skyline Boulevard and Sneath Lane in San Bruno.......

Barcelona 10 Day weather forecast as of 9/8/10....

Sat, Sep 18
Rain / Thunder
77° High
63° Low
60% Precipitation

The intensity of that fire is quite alarming. So sad to hear of the monetary and life lost.

Thanks for saving me the time looking this up. That was on my list to do today!

NO RAIN on Saturday!!!! NO RAIN!!! I want the sail away party to be in the sunshine of the Mediterranean! (Also not happy about the expected rain earlier in the week either.)

Hey everyone, I am soooo behind. Terry's granny died on Sunday so I have had the in-laws staying and the funeral today....

You're been in my thoughts for a couple of days. Although it's a time when you expect it, it's still difficult to say good-bye. :grouphug:

Just one bottle which we will buy in Barcelona .... pity as I have loads of the stuff here already, but can't take up any weight.

3 bottles, one x 6,9 and 15 factor. just little ones, but they may get ditched and I will buy more if wt is going to be a proble, our tablet and macaroon weighs 5 and half kg:scared1:

Maybe my 4 bottles are a bit ott then.....(2 for me and 2 for Mark):rolleyes1

Well, things here start to come along slowly but surely here. Got all my One to Ones done at work today and two of the meetings are taken care of as well. I have two more left, plus maybe a few informal chats with some of my team members. I managed to make arrangements regarding who is taking care of my team in my absence so things are coming along nicely.

This morning I woke up a good hour before I had to do and I got the final Fish Extender gifts finished. I am really pleased with the result. I also had time to start checking what supplies I have in my work box to replace the missing jewellery kits and what I need to reorder.

When I came home, I just about lost the will to live. It looked like half of our belongings were in the corridor outside of our apartment. Graham was not working today and decided to have a clean and tidy. The spare room is now immaculate and I will sort out the bedroom tomorrow.

After cursing him initially, I went through some of the boxes that were sitting in the corridor and I found some beads and cosmetics that I thought I had lost, 12 Pounds, about $5 in coins, a 30 Pounds gift card for one of the shops in town and most amazingly a great mask that I did not even know I had. This has now gone in the vacation pile and it will be great for Villains Night.

On another positive note, all of the jewellery kits that I sent to the USA have now arrived. One package with three kits arrived today. So now there are only two packages still MIA, both of which went to Canada and contain a total of 4 kits. Lets just say the idea of making up four spare kits is a lot less daunting than making up 7.

Corinna

sounds like you've been very productive!:cool1:

Thanks Noel for keeping everyone up to date with my earthquake news. I really think we are all probably suffering with PTS to a greater or lesser extent. We are trying very hard to keep upbeat and not let it get us down.

On the bright side, the aftershocks are no where near so frequent but they are still pretty strong.

Mum went to England on Monday and in her emails she said she's still having heart failure every time there is a sudden loud noise. Its going to take a while for us all to get over this. I know all schools in the region are going to be doing counselling for the children when schools start back on Monday.

Glad Mum got here ok, I meant to ask you that! keep your spirits up paula, we're all thinking of you and your fellow Kiwis :grouphug:

I got Tru to the airport and being the geek I am found a way to track her flight. She's near Montreal now - I made her promise to call me when her flight gets in - 2am our time. We'll be seeing her shortly! I hope her ABD trip is amazing.

Hope she has a good trip :woohoo:

I AM PACKED!!!!! I cannot believe it! I was so excited. Abby and I had a great time this afternoon.

Noel, hope I didn't make the scrapbook exchange seem more complicated without reading everyone's post. I apologize. Some times I give the "gift" to the host or hostess to place on the bed too. Just another thought.

We are going to be soooo busy - and this isn't even stuff DCL has planned for us. I plan on relaxing quite a bit too - at least I hope so!!

I have some poundage to spare with my bag so I MIGHT by myself something - who knows. I did get the hair done today and the wax of the brows so that is off the list.

Safe travels for everyone leaving tomorrow!

Well done Sandi! Come and help with my packing now? :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

Laura sent me a text about 2 hrs ago....looks like they have added her son Andrew to the WBTA cruise next week! I have not seen him since 2006 so I am excited that he will be sailing with us. She now has 2 of her 3 children sailing with her and DH.

Great news!:cool1:

We travel with the CPAP all the time also, but have not flown overnight. 8 hour day flight to the east coast has been all.

I was on the website, guided by the person on the phone with me. She put me on hold several times and confirmed with a supervisor that she was giving me correct information. AND I had to give her the model number and the voltage (even though he will not be allowed to use it????) and then she noted on his reservation that he would have the device with him and it will not count as his one carryon. She also said we have to fill out the other form which is about oxygen...which he does not need. :confused3 As for his provider faxing this to a foreign country....he gets care thru the VA, not a user friendly orgainization. I know because I spent many years as a patient advocate working for the VA. They have 30 days to fill out forms, it's in the regulations, and even if the provider is willing to go above and beyond you have to get the form past the release of info clerks. :sad2: I should have checked on this a month ago. My bad.

We will be sitting upright, but he still stops breathing when he sleeps sitting up.

I think he will not sleep much either and will definately need to nap a little.

:idea:Oh, I LIKE you!! I might try this. Dennis is such a rule follower though. It is a dangerous situation. I also would have him just put it on to sleep if there is anyplace to plug it in and see if the crew asks him to remove it.....but again, he is a rule follower.:sad2: I try to make him a bad boy, but

We will bring VitD and zinc with us and keep up our doses of that.

Poor Dennis, hopefully it will all work out and he'll be able to rest enough....and relax when you get to Barcelona

:littleangel:

Well, she's getting better today! YEAH! She slept great last night. Although, I didn't sleep as well. Since DH was gone I had her sleep in my bed so that I could listen to her breathe. I kept waking up to check on her and then of course have little feet in my back. DH is landing now. So, we are on the mend!! DS has no signs of getting this. It will truly be a miracle if he doesn't get this since they play (or fight) nonstop together in the house the last few days.

I decided not to send her to preschool next week. Since we start waking up an hour early each morning beginning tomorrow and I don't want her to catch anything else.

Thanks again for all your prayers and pixie dust!! Sure can't wait to meet everyone! I begin packing this weekend. We'll see how it goes!!

really pleased she's feeling better :goodvibes

Just say, "sorry for the mess, there was an earthquake" - you don't have to say it wasn't anywhere near you :rotfl2:

Colleague just moved a heavy box and dropped it with a rather heavy bang - we all jumped. For goodness sake, please don't slam your stateroom doors when we are around or we may not have enough mentionables to last the cruise :lmao:

We will be as quiet as mice around you Paula!:thumbsup2

This puts things in perspective as to why we are a little nervous :scared1:

Oh my!!!!!!:scared1: That is incredible!

SAN BRUNO, CA (KGO) -- Mulitple homes are on fire after a large explosion in the area near highways 280 and 380, Skyline Boulevard and Sneath Lane in San Bruno.

A large fireball up to 50 feet in the air continues to burn out of control in the Crestmoor Two area. Fire crews are attacking the fires from the air and ground. As many as 35-45 homes are on fire or have burned.

Photos

It is believed that a 24-inch PG&E high-pressure gas line is the source of the explosion and fire.

The Office of Emegency Services is giving the central location of the incident as Clairmont and Glenview drives. The San Mateo County Sheriff has activated the reverse-911 system to alert people in a three-quarter mile radius of a voluntary evacuation.
People as far as one-half mile away say they felt the boom and heat of the explosion.

An evacuation center has been set up at the San Bruno Veterans Memorial Recreation Center at 251 City Park Way. Residents are also gathering at Tanforan shopping center.

Northbound and southbound I-280 exits at San Bruno Avenue are closed at this time. In addition, Skyline Boulevard, Sneath Lane and San Bruno Avenue are closed. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.

At least 5,000 PG&E customers are without power.

SFO has told pilots to switch to instruments due to poor visability.

The Red Cross is heading to the scene to provide aid to residents.

Mills Peninsula Hospital is treating five patients with minor injuries in their emergency room. San Francisco General Hospital has one person in critical condition. Kaiser in South San Francisco is treating 15 patients. Other Bay Area hospitals are taking patients as well.

The FAA says it was not a plane. SFO spokesperson Mike McCarron says no plane from SFO is involved.

I am having a bit of an unfortunate start to the weekend. I managed to chip a tooth at dinner yesterday and woke up in the middle of the night with the most horrendous tooth ache. So in about 15 minutes, I have to ring my dentist to see if they can see me today. This is a complete pain as today is my last day off before the vacation and I have lots to do. I am hoping that I still will have time to go into town as I need a few last minute things for the cruise and then I have a Hot Stone Massage booked at a local spa at 6:15 PM.

Right, I better get going if I am even going to have a chance to get everything done.

Corinna

I hope you can get to the dentist Corinna, that's horrible! Good luck x

Oh and thanks again for all the well wishes, they must have worked cause Im a bit better today, work was a real trial last night, we had a client that was a bit eh,,,,,,,, difficult, actually he was so bad it was almost funny, some folks realy do come in looking for an argument at every turn, :confused3
Oh man, it is the only good thing about getting old, you can deal with things better and calmer than 10 years ago thats for sure.
He had an accent from another european country, :rotfl2: wish I could get it down how bad/funny it was but I just couldnt do it justice, in the end he said as he left, being sarcastic " well thankyou very much " and I said
" no sir, thankyou you very much and a good night to you":thumbsup2

I cant wait to hear what the day shift make of him.

By the way , the cats fine, even though it did not get an mri scan for its sore tail like the owner demanded. (we dont have an mri scanner by the way,and if we did he had no money, all it needed was a pain killer shot but he had been watching too many er tv programes I think)

Other funny thing was I asked for a contact number, he said.......
"well the telephone folks are as bad as you(me) and gave me beep beep service, when i told them they put the phone down on me and seem to have cut my phone of so I have no phone":rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
NO....really?:rotfl2:
Ps , lovely big smelly entire tom cat, day shift will be loving the aroma;)

Glad the pd worked...........your story sounds fun! (not):rolleyes1 He sounds like a jerk!

I've just had a call from Becky to say she's popping back today for the night as a friend's band is playing tonight in Reading......:rolleyes1 Didn't like to tell her we'd dumped all our bags and clothes etc all over her room reasy to pack tomorrow.......wonder if she'd mind sleeping in the spare room?!!!:rotfl2:

Hope you manage to get your tooth sorted Corinna .... just the sort of last minute hiccup you don't need !!

OK, will try to catch up next week, I promise ;)

Sending :hug: and thinking of you today.

Tony and I have just returned from shopping where we picked up a few things for the cruise:

- new quad band phone we can use in USA.
- a watch for Tony so he can see the time when we are off the ship as he tends to panic and we won't be carrying the phone around all the time.
- a notebook for me to write lots of notes in
- a couple of Welsh things to give as gifts

This afternoon I am finishing off FE gifts and scrapooking gifts ( STILL :scared1: ) I will also call DCL to reserve a water package and rainforest passes for one day. I also need to book our magic express from port orleans to the airport :sad2::sad2:

Paula. I promise not to slam any doors. I hope no servers drop their large trays of dishes in the dining rooms, and we will ask DCL NOT to sound the horn!!!;):rotfl2:

Not sound the horn??? I must hear the horn. They always announce before they sound the horn.

I have been waiting since my four day Dec cruise to hear it again in person.

Not sound the horn??? I must hear the horn. They always announce before they sound the horn.

I have been waiting since my four day Dec cruise to hear it again in person.

When we were on the '08 PC cruise they seemed to sound the horn loads of time, but on our last 3 cruises I felt they didn't sound it much at all.

Just back from having my hair cut and coloured. Another new hairdresser.:confused3 They just don't stay in one place long at all these days, and I don't normally like a new one just before going away in case they make a mess. Anyway she, and my hair seem quite nice, and she doesn't seem to be going anywhere in the near future.

Another thing to tick off the list.:lmao:

IAgreed - I still want a galley tour and we are working on a bridge tour as well. And there is Ducky Williams sessions and classes... The list goes on and on...

You are most welcome! You can thanks me in person with a hug in oh, say 9 days!!! WOHOOOOOOO!!!!!

PLEASE - if you are not intereseted in one of the tastings that you are booked for, EMAIL me ASAP at (sue.kraft@gmail.com) so I don't turn in your cabin number tomorrow at 11 eastern (Florida) time. After then, you will need to sell the tickets on your own as these are private tastings.

Sue: 2 questions - how do you set up a bridge tour? Is that for Concierge level only? I have been dying to do that and no luck they told us after 9/11. Second, how do I know what Martini tasting I am at? I know stupid question and yes, you will get a hug in 8 days!!!

Terapin - I always tell people that if they turn on the TV and they don't hear bad news, I made it okay. I know it isn't the most convenient thing to do, but until you catch up with the time change! I do like the tracking on the computer.

Thanks again for all your prayers and pixie dust!! Sure can't wait to meet everyone! I begin packing this weekend. We'll see how it goes!!

Lisa I hope your DD is feeling much better this morning and that DS stays well....Tell them I cant wait to meet them next Thursday so we can go see Mickey together!!

Agreed - I still want a galley tour and we are working on a bridge tour as well. And there is Ducky Williams sessions and classes... The list goes on and on...

Where do you sign up for the galley and bridge tour at and when??

Oh, I hope they are teens. My two teen DS are looking for new friends on this cruise. Seems like a lot of smaller kids going . . .

April is 17 but Andrew is in his early 20's.....

I cannot even begin to imagine going thru so many aftershocks.

I used the site of Earth Cam and typed in the name of Malta so I hope I can follow it the next few days coming into the other ports. It refreshes a lot so you might not get the Magic the first try
http://www.earthcam.com/malta/valletta/?cam=malta

Does anyone know what time the Magic leaves Malta today so maybe I can watch as she leaves?

For the Galley tour just go to Guest Services when you board, or soon after. They do get booked up. However on the PC cruise they added an extra tour or two as so many people wanted to do it.

I didn't know you could still do the Bridge Tour either, but we sure would love to do that.

We did the Theatre Backstage thing last time and that was really good and I can recommend it. I think you just turn up for that, it will be on the Navigator.

I think it is a bit rainy down in the Med in places. i hope it doesn't interfere with our friends on the cruise.
