this is awful...but TV. (I won't miss internet because I always buckle down and just buy the internet package so I can stay connected :lmao:)....but TV I will miss....we watch a lot of TV...or, I should say, we DVR a LOT of TV. It's awful to confess this since watching too much TV is so demonized in our culture but I am a total TV junkie. Here is just an assortment of the shows that we DVR on a weekly basis throughout the year:

Project Runway
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List
Top Chef
Top Design
Shear Genius
Eureka
Merlin
Smallville
Desperate Housewives
Brothers & Sisters
The Gates
Make it or Break it
American Idol
So You Think You Can Dance
America's Next Top Model
Design Star
Next Food Network Star
True Blood
The Vampire Diaries
Food Channel Challenge (where they compete making cakes...LOVE THAT)
Drop Dead Diva

And probably about half the shows we watch regularly....the ones I can think of right now....we used to be obsessed with a bunch of shows that are off the air now, too like: Pushing Daisies, Heroes, Lost, Dirty Sexy Money, Ugly Betty, Kyle XY, all the Sci-Fi network shows like the Stargate Series of shows, Battlestar Galactica, Sanctuary, etc.

So being on the ship there's always a ton of TV we miss....and I"m sure our poor DVR won't be able to hold everything for such a long trip! LOL

Erik - I will miss Project Runway too. I also will miss my soap, the Young and the Restless. Project Runway a little more though!!!

I am not caught up...I still have to do that, but I wanted to post that I just read on the CM Cast Portal that Peter is the CD on the Magic until at least September 4. It only goes up to that date. I'll keep checking for everyone though. :)

Well lets hope it will be somebody else by September 18th. I hope that DCL would not be cruel enough to inflict him on us for 14 days with 5 in a row when there is no getting away from him at all. He is a nice enough guy, but he simply is not Cruise Director material.

Hi All

Here's a Cruise question i don't think we've discussed (so clearly it's not going to be about underwear ;) )

What 1 (NON Living) thing, do you (do you think you'll) miss most when you're on the ship for 14 days.???

NON living so no votes for family, friends and pets, as we'll all miss them...

SW

P.s. for me it'll be the Internet, as i'm such a www Junkie.

SW

My computer. I do miss the internet terribly, but I am too cheap to use it on the chip, but it is nice to be able to download photos, get started on the trip report using Word and a proper keyboard instead of tapping it out on the iPhone. Still, the computer will stay at home this time.

Well, I remember why I normally never do lists. I simply do not have the discipline to follow them. Still, it jogs my memory and I am getting lots done, just not in the right order. Things are starting to look up. The Fish Extender and Secret Mickey gifts are sorted labelled and packed and are sitting on my desk at work awaiting pick up from the courier service, which will be scheduled for Friday. I have printed out most confirmations and the forms for the cruise. I just need to print out the itinerary for our flight in Barcelona, the jewellery spread sheets and the Fish Extender spreadsheets, which will be done tomorrow. I also made a spreadsheet with all confirmation numbers, dates, times, addresses and telephone numbers. That one is just waiting for a confirmation number for the flight back, which I will hopefully get sorted tomorrow.

DH was playing chess tonight so when I got home, I called DCL and added some onboard credit and a surprise for him. I also sorted out our transfers back to the airport and added the dining plan to our post-cruise stay.

Not too bothered about the internet - I kinda like having a break...

For me, it has to be our bed... :cloud9: I have such a dodgy back (after damaging both hip ligaments a few years ago) that I am very dependent on our customised sleeping space. We have a latex mattress with two feather beds on top and high thread count bed linen... Bliss...

My issue is that a LOT of TV shows are premiering whilst we're away so I'm OBSESSING about finding out all that might be coming up - it's exhausting!!!

BTW, we LOVED Dirty Sexy Money - so wish they hadn't cancelled that show...

Long live TiVo! I am so grateful for the device! When we first got it as a gift, I had no idea what to do w/it; now I can't live w/out it.

Isn't there a fridge already in the room?

There is a "mini-bar" style fridge. It comes fully loaded but with quite a mark-up! We always pull the cans of soda, beer, and juice and the miniature bottles out, put them in a cabinet, and tell the room steward what we've done and to NOT replace them. Then we have the use of the fridge for the voyage.

Because of the type of fridge, it doesn't get real cold. On one cruise it was so bad that we talked to the Purser; they replaced it with a brand new one that worked just fine.

I tried putting my phone in airplane mode for 12 hours this weekend. Not a pretty site.:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

So I'm going to suck it up and already added the international text package and the international discount package. Then I'm going to get the internet package on board so I can Skype with the grandkids every now and again.:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

So since I'm a wuzz and can't live without the internet, the thing I'm going to miss the most is television. :happytv::happytv::happytv:

A juicy, rare hamburger. DCL can't cook them anything other than well done due to health regulations. I like my beef rare, the pinker the better. So by the end of the last TA, I was craving a nice burger so badly that I had my friend bring me one when he picked me up at the airport.

As my last official duty before we sail to worlds end (there be many unofficial duties yet to accomplish...:lmao::lmao:)

I Give you Pt 10 of the cruise Thread !!!!

I think that might be only in higher level cabins? We have always stayed in Categories 5, 6 and 7 and once in a 10...and we've never ever had a real fridge that keeps things really cold (like if you put a glass of ice water in it overnight by the next morning the ice is melted and by afternoon the drink itself has started to go lukewarm at best) and we've definitely never had a stocked fridge with snacks and drinks in it-----unless you count our trip last May on the Wonder when the room host had clearly forgotten to empty out the fridge...and I think for several days at that...because when we opened the cooler to put in our bottles of water there was a half full glass of milk in there...that had gone so bad that the milk had turned basically to a jello-like sludge and smelled rotten as all get out! :rotfl2: Our host was so horrified I thought he was gonna jump right off the veranda he was apologizing so much!:rotfl:

Trying to keep up:

WELCOME to all newcomers!

:grouphug: to those who have lost a loved one. I know how deep that pain is; I have experienced several losses in the past few years.

For Pirate Night pirate: , my husband (Greg) will wear his pirate shirt from the Tortola Pussers with his Goofy pirate bandana/ears. I'm going to wear my "Pirate Chef" shirt--this summer, my son interned with a young DC-based designer (also has a shop in the Limelight in NYC) and it's one of his signature t-shirts; also, check out his amazing graphic belts:

Thanks to my super-duper Master List, the packing for my son's return to college in Massachusetts :sad1: on Saturday is going well. I hate the 8 hour drive each way, but we usually make a quick stop to see Greg's sister in NJ on the way up and a friend in CT on the way back.

Still have lots to do for the cruise! Almost done with my scrapbook exchange stuff--I'm a simple scrapbooker, but I hope the dozen experts on the exchange list will enjoy my humble efforts.

Two weeks from now--ON THE FLIGHT TO BARCELONA!!!

Andrea

I can't believe it was that simple. Had the 'discussion' with the school today and I am still in shock. I walked in and asked who I needed to speak to about getting independent study for my son. I was directed to the attendance office where I was asked if he was gone already or was this a future trip. I gave her our departure date and she just shrugged and said to have him come talk to her next week. She'll give him a form to fill out, she'll pass it around to his teachers, and then he turns in his work when he gets back. No questions about where we were going, why I was taking him out of school, how long it would be, nothing! His coaches gave us more grief than the attendance office did.

Thanks for all the comments on the toe. We will go through with the procedure, we're just hoping that they can get us in before the trip. DS is already missing 3 games due to the trip and I'd hate for him to have to miss any more once we get back.

Add me to the list of TV watchers.
I had RSVP'd on Facebook to the premier of Desparate Housewives then someone pointed out to me that I would be on the ship at that time. I'm going to have to spend the next 2 weeks glued to the TV to clear out space on my DVR for all the shows I'll miss while we're gone. :rotfl:

Internet - no, we'll be on the ship with our DIS friends so don't need to keep up with the boards. :surfweb:

Computer - no, I'll be bringing my laptop.

TV - no, I never watch it anyway. :happytv:

Bed - that must be it; we use a Sleep Number: hers 35, his 100! :cloud9:

I hope I'm not confusing cruise lines :confused3 ; our last DCL cruise was in 2006. So, maybe they've changed or else I'm totally confused about that. :rolleyes1

I can definitely say that I've never had a glass of millk left in mine! :lmao:

I think that I will miss my "man throne". When I had my house built I had a nice comfy one installed. The ones on the ship scare me. I'm afraid they might go off and suck me in!:scared1::scared1::scared1:
