LAST CALL IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN A PRIVATE TOUR IN ST MAARTEN

WARNING THIS IS A LONG POST!!

READ ONLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A ST MAARTEN TOUR

A Bernard Tour in St Maarten has been booked and deposited. So far, we have a total of 34 people confirmed in three vans. If you have PM'd either Betty (grmmybtty) or myself, your name is listed below as confirmed on the tour.

We have room for 2 more persons. If I don't hear from anyone in the next week or so, I am going to tell Betty (grmmybtty) and Bernard of Bernard Tours that the tour is closed to new members.

Betty (grmmybtty) has asked me to try to help her as she will be out of town until September 8, 2010.

The cost is $45 per person payable in cash or credit card to Bernard the morning we meet up with him. Betty will have more details at a later time about the exact meeting location and time.

The tour will be from 9am-3pm and will consist of the following stops:
·Great Bay overlooking Phillipsburg and harbor.
·Cayhill overlooking Simpson Bay marina.
·Sunset Beach bar ( Maho Beach ) where you can see the planes land right over your head.
·Marigot - open market (French Capital).
·Swim and or snorkel at Dawn Beach for up to two hours, as time allows.

Since it is our own private tour, the time at each stop is negotiable. Bernard has the above schedule pretty tight on the standard tour. The first 2 stops are just scenic stops, shouldn’t be too long since there are only 12 of us. He probably has things timed so that we would be at Maho Beach when the planes are flying overhead. 30 minutes is usually allotted for the market at Marigot. The rest of the time will be spent at the beach for lunch and swimming/snorkeling.

There are restrooms and restaurants for lunch at Dawn Beach

Water, beer, soda and rum punch will be served throughout the trip

Upon your return to Philipsburg, you will be offered a direct return to the ship at the Cruise Facility, or you may choose to remain in Philipsburg for shopping and return to the ship on your own.

You may walk from the drop off point to the ship in about 12 - 15 minutes, or choose to take a taxi for about $3.00 per person.

The people on the tour are:
grmmybtty (betty & armando)
birkner (noel & john)
luvdamouse91 (melissa & mike)
CustardTart (karen)
valbob89 (val & bob)
Yukongirl123 (janice + trevor)
paulcrsb (paul)
terapin - (carolynn & 6 other family members)
steamboat will (warren & abby)
we're aliens (jane & dave)
dolphingirl47 (corninna & graham)
sezmo (sarah & elizabeth)
con5421 (connie & patrick)
tink,too (lynn & 2 family members)
okwjim (jim & Judy)

Please let me know via PM if you are interested ASAP.

I called DCL again and the answer was still NO, we cannot apply Euros to our shipboard account and they will not give us US dollars for them unless they are purchased onboard, and they do keep track of who purchased what. Requires cash or travelers checks for purchase.

I had a lovely dream last night. We were checking in at the port and they gave us a booklet with the cabin number on. I asked the CM to read the number as I couldn`t see and it said cabin 8004!
Disney make dreams come true, don`t they

What a wonderful dream!! John and I were "dreaming" of having the Walt on this cruise with the grandkids but alas that is all it was, a dream!!

Friends vs aquaintances....friends are precious and are in our lives forever, aquaintances are wonderful people that come into our lives for a time, give us great joy and then move out of our lives. Both are to be valued. :goodvibes

That's really lovely Angie!

It is very cool here as well. When we got home from shopping at 5:30 last evening we both commented on it seeming much more like late fall than summer!! Hoping the forecast is correct and that we will warm back up to around 80 by mid week. Dennis said we are going to need to start turning the heat on at night. :sad2:

Just 63 degrees here! :umbrella: but feels much colder with this wind whipping around......Just been for a swim in the open air pool at our gym and it was very chilly! Can't wait to swim on our cruise....hoping it's a little warmer then.......:rolleyes1

So 1 week from now vacation will have started and I will be in the air on my way to EWR. Only 5 more days of work (hopefully not long days). :cool1:

I bookmarked the menus. I can't wait to have so many choices every night and to try new foods.

As for the budgeting... I am thinking $500 Euros as I will need them in Barcelona, Malta, Rome and Maderia to pay for my excursions since those are the places I am not using Disney. Been torn if I should get any Pounds for Gibraltar or just get them on the ship or hope for a Barclay's ATM (reciprocal bank with BofA so less fees) when we get off the ship. I am buying the pass online ahead of time so won't need too many.

I need to start packing. I have gotten most of the things I plan to pack in the loft, but I keeping making lists, but really need to start executing them.

Called the bank, credit cards and told them I was going away. Also, called AT&T and got the Intl plan and texting put on my phone to activate on Friday before I leave. Need to email the hotel again and reconfirm my reservation and make sure Kimmy can check in before me.

I am off to the mall (outside the city since the city doesn't have my size - Tanforan) to pick up some last minute things and do a return. So need to get moving as I have to take public transit (don't have a car) since they open at 11am.

Catch you all later tonight!

Sounds like you've been really busy! Not long to go now!:woohoo:

In Spain the E111 only covers emergency help - so we all need private insurance. Good point I must check ours.

Really sorry but I am very dopey and confused today ........can some nice kind European explain why we need to have both travel insurance AND the EHIC ?? If I have TI already why do I need to get the EHIC in other words.......sorry for my blonde moment

Thanks for clarifying the Euros situation on board. It really fries me that I was told by DCL last time I called that I could use them to pay my shipboard account. Next time I call in for whatever reason, I am going to tell a supervisor just who I talked with and what they told me about using Euros.

I think Sarah should add this fact to the Navigator as I am sure I am not the only person that was told you could use Euros purchased ANYWHERE to pay on your shipboard account.

Oh, well, instead of DCL getting my extra Euros (if I have any) I will just use them in either Barcelona or Madeira. It is their loss, not mine!!

I really can not believe the weather here today! Its freezing, with a mad wind and chucking down with rain......more like winter than an August summer day!!!!:scared1:

We've been out for lunch to a pub by the river (sat indoors of course) :goodvibes and had a poodle round the garden centre........I've now been warming up by watching YouTube videos of the Dream being built......:cloud9:

Oh....and I now have a full length formal dress Marilyn & Kaz, after trying on some of my dresses from our honeymoon!!!:cool1::cool1: I'm so pleased they fit again!!!:woohoo::woohoo:

Hope the weather's better wherever you are!:cool2:....and 3 weeks from today I won't care what it's like here.........:dance3:

:littleangel:
Thats brill re the dress, sounds like you had a nice day out, I am at work and have the central heating up full bum.
Thank you...I know that the familes are really having a hard time with their losses so my heart truly goes out to them.

I believe I saw some in the shop next to Diversions...can't remember for the life of me what it's called though...

I woke up because my alarm clock on my phone was going off and I was so tired last night from being sick, I couldnt' remember where I put my phone! Needless to say, I'm heading back to bed for a bit...I need more sleep so I can fully recover from that horrible virus.
Hope you feel better after sleeping:hug:

He's cold is better, he is a bit anxious today as the eye surgery is tomorrow. He is reading all about it :surfweb: I tell him too much info! We will be glad to be done with that and then Thursday will finish up with the 2 last root canals. :headache: We should be right as rain by the weekend. We will be camping (RV not really roughing it!) Wed thru Sunday. We will be close by so will drive into town Thursday for the dental appt then take him back out to the camp and put him to bed. Lots of friends joining us by Friday. 7 of us Wed on and another 6 coming in Fri night and a final 2 joining us Sun night. We expect to eat alot - well maybe not Dennis so much with the fresh dental work!! :rotfl2: I did tell him you were asking about him and he was very touched. Can't wait to meet in person! :grouphug:

Wish Dennis all the best from me as well. That isn`t a week most of us would relish - the weekend sounds good though.

Well I would think the best thing would be not having to claim on your insurance. It is free to get.

Does he not have to rest afterwards Angie? I would be really anxious and stressed if i was facing that and then 2 root canal's. Poor Dennis. We will be thinking of him!

Thanks, yes we should be home by around 9 am tomorrow (6:30am check in) and I will let you know how it went. I expect nothing but grand results!! :thumbsup2 I know he will be thrilled to have 20/20 vision in at least one eye! We return on Tues for a check on it and by then we should know for sure how it went. He has worn glasses since he was 12.

He does need to rest just for a couple of days. I promise he will be very comfortable in the queen bed in the RV and I will not make him chop wood for the campfire! :rotfl:

I think it's only of use in Barcelona and Madeira where it entitles you to state provided health care should you need it. That's not to say you won't be charged at the time and then have to claim the cost back.. Apparently some insurers now insist you have the EHIC and will waive the excess if you do - tho' I checked our annual policy with Amex and they don't mention it... Here's some info, Mandy.
