I have to say though, and Corinna, I think you mentioned this, I am very nervous about being in Barcelona. Just not feeling very safe. Mike and I need to learn not to look like tourists I guess.

I hate to hear that people are afraid to enjoy Barcelona. Don't let fear keep you from enjoying travel. Most of what we hear is blown out of proportion to reality. It seems every place I have traveled to has been cited by friends and family as "unsafe". I have never found it to be true once I got there. We all must be careful, of course. That goes for our own home towns. We are just more familiar there and so, don't worry as much. One person"s advise I always trust is Rick Steves. I have used his guide books for numerous trips and he has never let me down. This is what he says about Barcelona: "You are more likely to be pickpocketed here - especially on the Ramblas - than about anywhere else in Europe. Most of the crime is nonviolent but muggings do occur. Leave valuables in the hotel and wear a moneybelt."
So I will follow his advice, which is basically to go out and enjoy all that Barcelona has to offer, but be careful. I do that at home also.

We will be taking one large suit case, one suit bag, one carry on and a knap sack. I have not even started to pack cause that is what we normally take. Because with the scooter there is only so much room in the car.

British pounds can be used without any problem although Gibraltar has its own pound which is not in return, recognised in the UK. A lot of the stores will also accept Euros, even some will take US dollars but the exchange rate may not be the best

Noel - it isnt an inconvenience at all!!! I told her that as long as I had Snow White and Cinderella in the suitcase by the 10th I was good to go!!! BTW, I have known Micki since being pregnant with Stephen. They have had some rough times, so I am glad that there was a match there. I too would rather pay someone than go to a retail outlet for items when possible.

I am so glad that you told me about her!! Next time, I am going to ask her to make pirate costumes for John and I but give her LOTS of lead time!!

John is so jealous that he has time to do as much as he has done. This is his favorite kind of stuff to do but is just too busy!!


I too have had fun building FE gifts! The kids are definitely cleaning up from us... I finally stopped shopping for FE gifts as I have a suitcase full of swap stuff...

Did you ever ask if non concierge guests may ship their FE gifts ahead?

Lived in Brunswick (near Cleveland) for last 3 years of High school. Did undergrad at the University of Akron. Went to med school at Ohio State and lived in Columbus and Hilliard during that time. Now, I'm in Indiana near Indianapolis. Still an Ohio State fan. In fact the other day, while skimming, I swore I saw the user name "Buckeye Candy" instead of "Buckeye Goofy". Or else, I was just hungry!!

DH John received his MSEE degree from the University of Akron with his thesis being Write Noise Relaxation in a Plated Wire Memory. Could that subject be any more boring?

The idea of Becca loosing her tooth while we are cruising reminds me of a story that I read here on the DIS some time ago that had may of the readers tearing up over. A DD had lost her tooth while they were sailing, and the DW happened to mention it to the stateroom host/hostess simply as a topic of conversation telling him/her that her DD was just so excited the tooth fairy was going to visit her that night. When they got back from dinner, there was a trail of shimmery pixie dust that led from the veranda door to the bed and nightstand. There was a signed picture of Tinkerbell for the DD sitting on the bed along with something else (I don't remember what though). Anyways, that was incredibly special and absolutely unprovoked! That's the best pixie dust one can get!

That is awesome! My DS, who will be 6 3/4 when we sail and starting 1st grade next month, has yet to lose his first tooth. It would be awesome should it happen on the Magic.

I searched back through part 8 of this meet thread, and found that 7 people had expressed interest in doing yoga. As i recall, the "hidden deck" at 7 aft is more than big enough for that many, and more, so I think we should try to make this work. Cynthia (elderfam) has volunteered to lead, and I can lead in a pinch (I'd call myself an "experienced beginner"). As well, the professional fitness people on board (as I recall) offer yoga sessions every 2-3 days, although their sessions tend to be short, only about 30 minutes.

For others who haven't done yoga and are curious, it's a wonderful way to increase your flexibility, strengthen core muscles, and help you stay active and healthy as you age. Try it, you might like it! As Cynthia has said, we won't be doing super-bendy stuff.

If I can manage to get up early some morning(s), I would like to come try it. As long as you promise not to laugh! My primary yoga experience comes from my Wii Fit.

So a large envelope comes out of my mailbox from her today. She made me a buckeye pillow case for the cruise for autographs. O.M.G.! What a treasure that is!

Topsiders will be open the last morning. We never eat in the dining rooms on the last morning, we don't like to get up quite that early.

We ended up at Topsiders on our December cruise because they wouldn't let us in the dining room when we arrived 15 minutes late (6:45am is early to get little kids moving!) It wasn't too bad! I still prefer the restaurants, but it's nice to know that Topsiders is an option if you don't want to get up early for the early dining time, or if you have late dining and need to get off the ship early.

For those of you who are concerned about forgetting something or require something extra for the rest of the journey there's a MORRISONS supermarket only a short(about 10 mins) walk from the terminal. Morrisons, for those who are not familiar is a large UK supermarket chain something like the quality and range of PUBLIX, it's just like any normal UK/US supermarket and all staff speak English. it was formally known as SAFEWAY, yes it was the same as the US version until bought and re-branded as Morrisons, of course the store will be duty free,and I understand that good vodka (and Rhum) can be had for £7.00 ($10.86) per Litre.

So does this mean our Safeway Club card will work??

Anyone planning or offering to do a group run?

Is Disney still making you take everything with you? Seemed like quite a tripping hazard as families piled all of their belongings in every open space in the dining room.

This was still the policy on our December and January cruises. It seems like they've been more insistent recently about people leaving their luggage near the entrance. This worried me because I had my computer and tickets, etc in my bag and wanted to keep it in my sight.

I too have had fun building FE gifts! The kids are definitely clening up from us... I finally stopped shopping for FE gifts as I have a suitcase full of swap stuff...

I'm uncontrollable when it comes to FE gifts, especially for the girls! I overshopped for gifts, and am probably going to have to cut back on some of the heavier items since they're taking up too much weight and space. Since there were so few kids in my assigned FE groups, I'm actually trying to work out giving gifts to many of the kids (at least all the ones doing FE gifts.)

i hope your right indeed it is very interesting what we like or do not like i spent most of my life in cities

i tend to enjoy more ordered cities so i guess chaotic like cities leave me cold

love munich, new york, paris, hong kong..

dislike LA, Naples

but i do like to feel relatively safe .. i know your not safe anywhere

but as a tourist we are very vulnerable ... it seems that in barcelona tourists are very much targetted

in fact last week barcelona was on the secret tourist BBC TV programme about attacks on tourists

it did give you some very good clues and advice

Thanks for the tip about the BBC. Never spend any time in downtown LA anymore since Bullocks Wilshire was gutted so can't comment. Usually spend time in Santa Monica, Malibu Huntington Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, or Pasadena area.

also it was like the 1970's so its like really nostalgic .. i am hoping next year i can get back there its been about 8 years since i was at DL Anaheim

though i have to say disney world is awesome i love that place there is so much to see and i love how its all in one huge area

i have to admit disneyland paris looks great

i just wish the CM's would take more CM classes in the USA

some are great but its just not magical or that top disney service
