A question for those of you who have been on the Magic more recently than us (it's been 4 1/2 years!). We were accustomed to the Disney process of hauling all of our carry-ons (carry-offs?) to breakfast with us on the final morning. Then we sailed on Holland America and Carnival and found we could leave everything in the stateroom until after breakfast and then go gather them. Is Disney still making you take everything with you? Seemed like quite a tripping hazard as families piled all of their belongings in every open space in the dining room.

As of last September yes. You still take carry off luggage to Breakfast. I kow that they have an area outside of each restaurant to leave bags, often missed at Lumieres as it is at the side (accessible) entrance.

Anyone know if Morrisons takes Euros? Trying to plan out how to spend what I have... (Listen for the thud... Yes, that was DH falling off his chair... me making yet another plan to spend money... :rotfl: )

from what i have heard they all take euros but the exchange rate is poor

lol whats the thoughts after gibraltar the ship sinks from the extra weight of shopping bags:lmao:

Hi All
For those of you who are concerned about forgetting something or require something extra for the rest of the journey there's a MORRISONS supermarket only a short(about 10 mins) walk from the terminal. Morrisons, for those who are not familiar is a large UK supermarket chain something like the quality and range of PUBLIX, it's just like any normal UK/US supermarket and all staff speak English. I've added a link, however the map shown on there website is incorrect if you check-out Google maps it shows the exact location with photos, it was formally known as SAFEWAY, yes it was the same as the US version until bought and re-branded as Morrisons, of course the store will be duty free, and I understand that good vodka (and Rhum) can be had for £7.00 ($10.86) per Litre.
We're going to stock up on a few things including the bulky and heavy items(mouthwash, kitchen towels etc) you want to take but would tip the scales into excess baggage charges.
Hope this helps. http://www.morrisons.co.uk/Store-fi...ibraltar&recordid=1&lat=36.12930&lon=-5.35200

Only three weeks next Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:
See you all then.. Jane & Dave.
How close is this to the ship? Walking distance?

Kimberly,

Excellent list (well, as far as a guy can tell). While I will keep out of your 'mentionables' drawer, I thought I'd offer a suggestion regarding your 'tops'.

Tops (eek!):
2 cardigans
4 T-shirts (includes our WBTA Logo and MMC t-shirts)
7 blouses (includes Champagne Girls)
1 Ohio State University (American) Football Jersey - Scarlett (Home games on 9/18 and 9/25)
1 Ohio State University (American) Football Jersey - White (Away game on 10/2)
I think Sue thought I was crazy for packing a jersey I wouldn't need until the day we disembark, but one has to have ones priorities. :lmao:

:thumbsup2very cool :thumbsup2

O - H

I - O

Thanks very much for posting this! I have a husband who manages to pack his entire bathroom :rolleyes1 so I'm hoping this will encourage a little less packing on his part!

I hope Holly is OK! Sending good thoughts your way.

We finally got our cruise docs yesterday. My travel agent had them sent to her so she could include a gift with our packet (love my TA!).

A couple people mentioned just grabbing a cab from the airport to their hotel. I think we are going to do this too. I had thought of arranging the car service offered by Le Meridien, but the driver meets you outside and there is a charge for waiting in case your flight is late. :(

I have to say though, and Corinna, I think you mentioned this, I am very nervous about being in Barcelona. Just not feeling very safe. Mike and I need to learn not to look like tourists I guess.

hi

for anyone worried about MORRISONS do not be they are very good and very decent quality as for clothes Marks and Spencers are great .. really one of the best on the UK highstreet they do some great formal shirts and casual clothes

jason

I hope it's not too cold for my flipflop crocs... it's all I wear besides tennis shoes nowadays. (I mean for daily wear ofcourse) I'll have frozen tootsies but my feet swell on the cruises! (it's the salt I tell ya!) so I really can't wear anything else anyway. Thanks for answering.

I'm just the same, wear my Croc flip flops everywhere! (and have trouble with swollen feet/ankles too onboard):rolleyes1

I really really want to buy some of the newer style ones (pink of course) but may wait til we get to Florida..not sure if they're cheaper in the US :confused3

from what i am reading about barcelona is not really very good it does not seem like a safe city for tourists and from what friends say to me its not very safe for people by themselves

i passed through there some years ago and it seemed fine compared to some places i have been through ... eastern europe was an experience ::confused: loved it but well it was not relaxing

barcelona seems a bit like Naples, italy i am part itailian from my dads side and we used to go there alot - did not enoy it as you had to be on your gaurd from scammers all the time... even the cafes scammed tourists... love the italian cities and ruins but would never go back again.

I have never seen the point in going to a place only to have to be on your gaurd all the time - thats not my idea of a holiday .. i go on holiday to get away from stress being a project manager is stressful.. i want fun and R&R

jason

I can honestly say I never felt unsafe in Barcelona. We had such a great time there last summer and wandered around totally freely without any worries!:confused3
I know there have been lots of scary reports of trouble there but we found it no more worrying than any large city.:goodvibes

I gave up...

I could not catch up. Simon kept me busy. I only have time to read the board at night... but I was far too tired.
smiley4429.gif

What did I miss? THANK YOU!

smiley5528.gif

Hi Steffi! Not long now then you can relax a little!:cool1:

Please send all your spare pixie dust......
We were spending a beautiful day on the boat, lazing in the sun, boys having a few beers, girls giggling and gossiping, kids fishing until.......Belly caught Holly, yep, Holly ate the fish hook, swallowed it whole.
Lucky Mum was there with her car at the beach so we raced her straight to the 24hr Animal Hospital, Poor baby needs surgery to remove the hook which is in her stomach. So I had to leave my baby at the hospital and come home empty handed.
Waiting at home for the phone call now....waiting......waiting......waiting.....
She should be home tomorrow morning, $2000 later!

Oh no!!:scared1: Lots of :wizard: coming your way for poor Holly

Oh, we've been to the US sooo often...

Where do we go?!

I LOVE Sketchers, Crocs.
A&F but mostly only to look, because I think it is expensive compared to its quality. AND their sizes are a miracle to me...

Adidas, because it's cheaper than here!!! And we live right to the city of Adidas' headquarter.

Hm... what else...

For food. We love WHOLE FOODS MARKET. Could spend hours there only to look!

Reaching Port Canaveral we always visit Cocoa Beach and Ron Jon.

We always buy Skechers, Crocs and visit Ron Jon's too....love that enormous one in Cocoa Beach!:woohoo:

Sephora is also a 'must'!:yay:

Gibraltar is a VAT free jurisdiction..... Yipeee!!

Yep!:woohoo:

DON'T FORGET TO BUY YOUR CHAMPAGNE THERE FOR THE CHAMPAGNE GIRLS PARTY!!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
''

It's on my list!:yay:

Funny, he's thinking the same thing. He met his wife at Disney, even though she also comes from Long Island. They never would have met if it weren't for Disney.

Disney brought Mark & I together too :cloud9:

As they say.......it all started with a mouse!:goodvibes

well friend of mine went to gridaltar and he said it was like a british high street without tax so yeah yipee

from my research

Many of the big British High Street names are here such as Marks & Spencer, Morrison's Superstore, BHS, Mothercare, Evans and Dorothy Perkins, amongst others. They follow british hours of shopping 9-5 instead of spannish though i think saturdays they close in the afternoon

from what i hear its like being at home in the UK

just be warned

British pounds can be used without any problem although Gibraltar has its own pound which is not in return, recognised in the UK. A lot of the stores will also accept Euros, even some will take US dollars but the exchange rate may not be the best

I would have said Gibraltar was a little different to your average UK high street....especially off the main centre. We found a lovely little cafe in a square that was more spanish than British ......and the prices aren't UK :thumbsup2

I have to say though, and Corinna, I think you mentioned this, I am very nervous about being in Barcelona. Just not feeling very safe. Mike and I need to learn not to look like tourists I guess.

Don't feel too nervous Jodie.........honestly, it's fine, just be aware and you'll be fine and enjoy your time there!:cool1:

After all, if it really was that awful a place I don't think Disney would be happy basing its cruises there!:goodvibes

Awespme picture!
last September there was lots of football on! They had college and pro on - and I think that we watched Monday Night Football at the pool!

Great news for Mark....thanks for the info......he's looking forward to his football (US kind) :thumbsup2

:littleangel:

All this shopping talk has got me thinking.......(for a change)......:rotfl2:

.......which shops do the US ladies amongst you all recommend for us more curvalicious girls? I know about Torrid but is there anywhere else in Florida I should try?:confused3

....and also......perfume.......do people normally buy this duty free at the airport, in a port, onboard ship or once in Florida?? I'd really like to get some Gucci 'Flora' but need to find a good price.......:rolleyes1:thumbsup2

Cheers!:goodvibes

:littleangel:

Thank you, Glenn, for adding the following Event to our Website!

For those going, it would be great if you when you sign up if you would state that you will be meeting the group at Praktik Rambla Hotel or if you will try to find us at the Fountain itself. Obviously you can change your mind, but know we will leave the hotel promptly at 20:15 so we can get on our way to secure a great view!

Also, does anyone have a response to my question I have in the copied post below?

Thanks!!!

John and I will probably go on Friday as we are doing a tapas and flamenco dinner on Thursday with some fellow DISers. Just a quote note, neither your original post or your copies post have a link to the pin point map.

She thought that she would be sending Beccas stuff on Monday - but she put off on her dresses to get yours done as you "leave before us"... :rotfl: by 1 day... :lmao::lmao: I was going to tell her we practically left at the same time, but I didn't go there... I am still just happy that she could help you out!!

Anyway - hoping that we both have our packages this next week!

Sue, I hope that my having her make my outfit, didn't inconvenience you in any way!! I am sure we are both excited to have her make the outfits. I am always glad to help someone make a bit of extra money.

Glenn has done an excellent job on the website!! You guys have gone way beyond the call of duty in creating this site.

Last but not least, I have had such fun buying FE gifts for Becca and the other kids on our FE. I am sure I will gift the kids lots more than the adults!!

Glenn, yes to all please!

Meeting place will be HRC; alternate is at the SE end of the walkway over Avenguda de Rius i Taulet (at the SE end of Avenguda de la Reina Maria Cristina) - this is the north side of the fountain. DW and I will be taking the Metro from HRC but we plan to spend a little time at Poblay Espanyol before the first fountain show if we have time.

Thanks!

Micheal,

I've got the event added to the list, as well as the HRC event. I imported all the signups for HRC, so it now reads 'There be 98 Pirates from 40 Parties signed up for Hard Rock Cafe'. See you there!!

Glenn

Noel - it isnt an inconvenience at all!!! I told her that as long as I had Snow White and Cinderella in the suitcase by the 10th I was good to go!!! BTW, I have known Micki since being pregnant with Stephen. They have had some rough times, so I am glad that there was a match there. I too would rather pay someone than go to a retail outlet for items when possible.

I think Glenn is having fun doing stuff on the web site - I know he wishes that he had more time available so he could do more...

I too have had fun building FE gifts! The kids are definitely clening up from us... I finally stopped shopping for FE gifts as I have a suitcase full of swap stuff...

That actually makes more sense. But one side of my family is very tall and my mom's dad's side is very short.....there you go, you just don't know how tall your kids will be in our family!:confused3

Isn't that the truth? You roll those genetic dice and you don't know what you're going to get. I'm 5'2" and DH is 6'4". Our DDs are between 5'4" and 5'6". However, DGD2's father is 6'7" and she is showing every indication that she's going to be tall. (You know how you can look at a puppy's feet and pretty much figure it'll be a big dog by the size of its paws? Well, she's 27 months old and wearing a children's size 8 shoe (don't know how that translates internationally, sorry, but as a reference a friend's 4 yo wears an 8 too).

Please send all your spare pixie dust......

Oh, no, I hope poor Holly will recover w/no bad effects.

Oi, That is scary! The swimsuit try on, at least it's better at home than at some swimwear shops with flimsy curtains in the change room and a 15 year old shop assistant with a tiny waist, great tan and perky ****s! :rotfl:
Good luck with the shorts...

It's almost as bad as root canal work!

OK, what is a bra stash??? :confused3

http://www.amazon.com/BRAZA-80900-S...r_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1282488596&sr=8-1

Anyway, after booking the first day available for silver people back in October 2008 (in a CAT 11) I have found that after paying the fuel surcharge (and of course not getting it refunded), after two years - I have saved a total of $10.50 by booking early!!!! :thumbsup2

We're in the same boat (pun intended) :rotfl:. But really. It makes you wonder what they're thinking. Don't they know we talk? The most off-putting thing to me is the uneven way they gave or didn't give the fuel overcharge.

You might be interested in Lane Bryant (check out their website, too). There is an LB outlet at PRIME OUTLETS INTERNATL, 4953 INTERNATIONAL DR 1B12, ORLANDO, FL 32819. They used to be very matronly, but in the past few years they are definitely courting the younger crowd.

It's roughly 1 km.

Gibraltar1.jpg

Thanks Michael! That is much closer that the one I found at the Morrisons website!

Any clue as to where the taxis pick up? We are looking to get off the ship and grab a Taxi to do our tour.

See you all then.. Jane & Dave.

Thanks ever so much for the link!! Do you know if they take credit cards the same as in the USA?

Since you seem to know a lot about Gibraltar, do we need to take many Gibraltar pounds? I was reading on many sites that you are really loosing a lot of money if you use Euros instead of Gibraltar pounds.

I have woken up from my last night shift before the cruise and I am very tired after only 3 hours sleep in 48 hours so I am sorry if I have missed anything but I really do not have the stamina to read through the 10 + pages you have all posted since my absence ..... I apologise if I missed anything important, and if someone could just point out any essential highlights from the last 24 hours I would be eternally grateful ... thank you.

Normal service resumed as of now .....

Only 9 shifts to work until the cruise

Just thought I'd let you know - When we fly on an international itinerary most airlines will honour the larger luggage allowance of the international part of your journey. For example, we fly from home to LA with Qantas, and LA to Orlando with AA, So AA will honour the Qantas baggage allowance of 2 bags each (3 if you are in Qantas Club). Just thought it may be worth looking into for some of you??? :confused3

We are staying the night in Frankfurt to see family so our Air Berlin is a separate domestic flight. They are not Star Alliance members so will not honor our United Premier status so we are low men on the totem pole and have to follow their rules and pay extra.

As an aside, John weighed his electronic gear at 40 lbs or for our metric counterparts, 18.1436 kilograms. So no complaints from him as our one baggage allowance is 20 kilograms.

No, he can't just take his electronic gear!! He has to have clothes other than a two swim suit, sandals and a tee shirt which is about all that will go in that electronics bag!!

Love nordstrom shoe department! And I bought an amazing embroidered ballerina quilt for Lucy from Bloomingdale home in Las Veags! Haven't been into Chico's...on the list! :thumbsup2

You will really like Chico's if you like great women's clothes!!

Haven't even heard of Beall's? On the list...:thumbsup2

Here is the Beall's website to bookmark.

As I told Sue, I have fun shopping for your two girls for the FE!! I love to shop so was a great excuse to buy fun things!!
