I have never had a good manicure on the ship. They wind up bubbly and sloppy! Right now I have color on my nails, and I hate it. I like color on my toes, but this NY Apple Red or whatever it's called makes me feel a bit of the "lady of the evening." Thanks for the tip on getting a french. I usually keep my nails short and sheer. And I am definitely going to do that next time. I guess it's good that I got color this time so I can see how bad I wear them.

Here is another tip of the evening for keeping your manicure fresh: never let suncreen near your polish. Sunscreen is a bad offender for dulling and matting your polish.

The french manicures are very neutral, which is what I like, but I'm an old-fashioned gal and I just paint my nails one (usually) neutral color, then they go w/almost anything and they don't show wear as fast as bright colors.

Corinna, do you have Netflix in the UK? The Pillars of the Earth is available for streaming on Netflix now. I am currently watching it on Starz (we have a season pass on our TIVO), and I am enjoying it very much. The 2-hour finale is this Sunday!

I LOVE my TiVo!!!!!!

Has any one read any of Nelson DeMille's Detective John Corey novels? They are my faves (Plum Island, The Lion's Game, The Lion). All very good, especially if you have a dry sense of humor.

Sounds like something I'll have to try. Thanks.

My Irish/Polish heritage did not give me firm, thin arms....

Is that what it is? Now I know (yes, Irish/Polish too :thumbsup2).

In the 1960's we called them "hot pants".
HotPantsMiniSkirt.jpg

Yes, we did, and I could actually get away w/wearing them then (now, :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:).

Forgot to mention: I got a flu shot today and it included the H1N1 virus. Yay!

I see that we now have Tropical Storm Earl......Please send up prayers that NO HURRICANES will be in the Gulf headed for the Mississippi, Louisiana or Alabama coast the few days before I leave on Sept. 16. My DH is a fireman for the City of Biloxi (which was leveled by Hurricane Katrina 5 yrs ago on Aug 29) and they can cancel all vacation time if a Hurricane is headed to our area....They do not care how much the trip cost or how much planning has been put into it!!!

This is my biggest fear. His last day to work before the cruise is Sept. 12. So If he can get away from his station the morning of Sept 13, we will be ok because he will not answer his phone after that.....as far as they know, we will be gone!

This happened as we were leaving for the 5 night cruise in Sept 2008. They called and he made the mistake of answering the phone but quickly said we were already in the airport....just a little white lie! We were not there yet!!

I am praying and crossing everything I can in hopes that no storms develop right before we leave.

Oh Pam...

Ok.. prayers are out there... no Earl for anyone!

I was almost sure Sue had updated the lists on pages 1 & 2 with all our cabin numbers after our GTYs were assigned. Today I happened to be looking at the Strawberry group on the FE list because of the mention earlier that Tinkrules and QueenMom may no longer be on the cruise. I notice the rooms show GTY now. Maybe I was dreaming about them being updated?? The Pirates Sailin' th' Trans-Atlantic website does not have the complete Strawberry list but I don't know if it ever did. val

So disappointed....just realized that we never received our shirts from Zazzle (and I even did research to find Marc's Mickey Mouse Club number!). I had actually forgotten about them until I saw the posting about the night that they would be worn to dinner. They were shipped to my sister-in-law's PO box in San Diego but they weren't in the things we picked up when we were there this past weekend. (We did get the Pirate shirts, though! Thanks, Todd!)

Too late to have them reshipped down here to Mexico and have to pay duty on top of it, plus the additional cost for new shirts. Reminder to self - From here on out, PAY for the delivery that includes tracking!!!!

We'll be hanging our heads low the day y'all wear yours. :sad1:

I had hot pants but we wore them with short short dresses. Also wore what we called petty pants. I had a pair of black ones with black tassels along the edges so when you sat down in your short skirt the tassles showed. We really thought we were something in the late 60s and early 70s, maybe we were. val

Michael - If your sister-in-law has them, have her mail them to one of us in the states - I'm not leaving until the 13th. We can bring them to you, they couldn't take up that much room in my suitcase. PM if you want my address in San Francisco to mail them to. Val

Pam - I just read about your DH and what happens if a hurricane hits. I will be praying for you. We are watching the hurricanes too. Hopefully nothing here.

Michael - so sorry to hear about your MM shirts. Have them mailed to Val so you don't miss out on the fun!

Mandy and Corrina, I know you are asleep, but I will have to look up those James Patterson books you were talking about. If you want to read any, and I have room, I have quite a few, hardbacks, just let me know and you can keep them. Like I said, they look nice in my bedroom, but so much better when people are actually enjoying them, Good Night!!

I got our jewelry kits.

I'm doing alright, my abdominal muscles are pretty sore but I know it could be worse.

I hope you are all doing well.

I dont know if theyve been updated we were told that we're in the strawberry group but our names arent on the list so hopefully theyll be updating everything soon. Our names arent on a few things for some reason even though we asked to be added on. i guess everyone is soo busy with packing and getting ready for this magical cruise.

Hi everybody. We were on the ebta, and envy you the wonderful time that is just around the corner for you! And special salutations to krisann, and anyone else that was also on that trip.

Sometimes I truly amaze myself with my dumbness....this would be one of those times. I am the costum-er/pr guy/scheduler for my brother and my son who are both professional Santa Clauses. When we stopped at Gibraltor in April it was my intent to go to a bank and try to buy a handful of the 50 pence coins in Gibraltor currency. Each Christmas they do a new one with a holiday-inspired picture on one side. Some Santas love to have some loose in their pocket (along with a North Pole issued drivers/flyers license) to help convince doubting kids.

Well, you know about good intentions....I was traveling with my dh, in a wheelchair, and my ds, who is low-end Down syndrome. After a kind of disastrous port day in Madiera, I decided that we'd just stay on board at the other ports, and that worked fine, with the exception of the lack of 50 pence coins. Really dumb to be so close and not make the extra effort to collect some!

I can buy them on Ebay, but the seller charges $8.00 each (the exchange rate puts them at about $0.78 each) which is a steep mark-up.

If anyone is planning on wandering around downtown Gibraltor, and wouldn't mind going into a bank and picking me up some coins, I'd be really delighted to send you some cash. Just pm me, please.

Thanks, and have a wonderful trip!

We are from Magna, and plan to do a little exploration in Gibralter in addition to the Rock on your own Tour. If we get close to a bank we could get some coins and bring them back to the Salt lake City area. I would like some for myself and it wouldn't be a problem to bring some back if we do!

It is quiet here today. Is everyone packing? Last minute shopping? Making magnets? Or....did folks get a life outside the DIS? :surfweb: We still have just a bit of shopping to do. I need a slip for my semi formal suit and Dennis needs a couple of new dress shirts. Then that is all.....I think.

I have packed everything that won't wrinkle already. I have the rest of the clothes segregated in my closet and will pack them the day before we go. I should make my magnets in the next day or two and then I have to make a shawl to go with my black dressy pants and top for pirate night. It should be real cute. Then I just have a few things to accomplish before we leave on the 14th, e.g. get $50 in $1 bills, call CC company, copy CC and passports, make address cards for new friends, etc.

Calling all back to back cruisers

Johanna kindly responded to my plea last time round, but due to the duration of the excursion she is doing, she is unlikely to be able to help me. So I thought I place another call out.

At the port at Tunis, there is a wonderful little shop and I could still kick myself that I did not buy something when I was there. I am just wondering if somebody could get this for me. I am happy to Paypal the money, send you Amazon gift certificates or if you are happy to let me have your full name, reservation number and cabin number, add it to your onboard account for the Med cruise. If somebody could help me, you would really make my day.

Corinna

I am Adventures by Disney on the Med cruise and my understanding is that they fill up your day with ABD, too....you get up and off early and get back to the ship right about dinner time.....so i don't think I'll be much help in terms of shopping for you, either.

However...I did want to offer that if you can find someone who is on the Med cruise but is NOT a B2B person...and that person is willing to buy it for you in tunis and then give it to me and jason, we could hold onto it for you until you get aboard on the WBTA. Not as much help, I know...but thought I'd at least offer.

I got our jewelry kits.

I'm doing alright, my abdominal muscles are pretty sore but I know it could be worse.

I hope you are all doing well.

Glad you made it through the surgery without too terribly much pain. pixiedust: that you will feel better soon!!

....I got home from cheerleading tonight (last night before the trip...THANK HEAVENS!! What an exhausting summer!!) and I have a letter informing me I have been summoned for Jury duty beginning on Sept. 20th! :lmao: now that is one more thing I have to deal with before the trip....have to call them tomorrow and let them know there's no chance! :rotfl2:

Anyone else refuse to do mani/pedi's on the ship? I just got back from my first 2-week OPI manicure (gel nails or whatever they're called). It's my trial run to see what they look like in 2.5 weeks so I know whether I can handle it for the cruise.

I never get my nails done on the ship i do them myself. If you got the tips youll want to get them redone right before the cruise with the refill. your suppose to get them refilled about every 2 weeks or so and they start to look it too just a tip since i usually get tips on which ive been thinking of possibly getting them done too but closer to the cruise. the longest ive gone without getting them refilled is 4 weeks

Attention Jewellery Making People

Can I just ask you again to let me know when your kits arrive. At the moment there seem to be 11 packages MIA, three of which were mailed on August 16th (2 to USA and one to Canada) and the remaining ones were mailed on August 17th (one to Australia, two to Canada and 5 to USA). The ones that have arrived in the USA all took 6 days and we are well over this by now. Looks like Royal Mail hired a slow donkey to transport out packages.

Corinna

NO pack yet will eb sure to let you know :)

Thanks everyone for the wahoos and everything , this Day has gotten even better as we have found out through the help of our State Senator Harry Reid , Helens son Seans immigration case has been expedited and the Embassy in Manila contacted me this evening to tell me Seans interview will be Sept 17th , which means he will finally be with us in Vegas 1 or 2 days after we get back from the cruise ..:banana: -

Today has been a great day and I thank all of you for the well wishes and thank God for watching over us , he has done some amazing things in my life and he never fails me when I need him most ....:littleangel:

FABULOUS NEWS!!!!!!:cool1:

He will be touched that you asked. :goodvibes
His cold is getting better, his cataract worse by the day but only 5 more days to surgery. Today we were at Costco and he ate a sample of a sandwich (it was good by the way!) and some mayonaise dripped off. A bit later he said to me "people have dripped mayonaise all over the floor! We'd better get someone to clean it up." I looked and it was nails in the concrete floor not mayonaise!! :lmao::rotfl2: Now I did not know about his dribble incident at the time he said this and I was :confused3:confused::confused3 where'd he come up with mayonaise? :rotfl: I just laughed and laughed. His sight is that bad! :sad2: Everything is blurred and has a "halo". He's grumpy too...he did not see the humor in the situation that I did!

He is amazing! :thumbsup2

Poor Dennis! I know that he can't wait for the surgery and glad he is healing from his cold.

The strength of a refrigerator magnet (very similar to the types of magnets used for door decorations) is about 50 gauss (measured at the surface). If you measure 1 foot away, it drops to .001 gauss, at 7 feet (the air shipping requirement), it drops to virtually 0.

So, unless you are putting up your door decorations with a 1" X 1" X 3" neodymium-iron-boron magnet, you'll be fine!

And you are on my plane so I am glad we are good to go for a few magnets.

Noel, I like my Kindle very much. I always use it with the cover so I have more of the feeling of holding a book. I love that Amazon has free books as well, and have downloaded more than a few of them. I also love that you can simply put a cursor to a word and the dictionary definition appears. Of course I've never used a Nook or iPad, so take my review for what it's worth. :)

I have been on the look out for a slim book like cover for my ipad, on which I am liking the kindle app very much!

Actually the pools are Porto Moniz volcanic pools, copied and pasted Porto Santo incorrectly. :confused3

http://www.love-madeira.com/porto-moniz-madeira.html

Thanks
Walt :cool1:

I was ok with the change even if it was a mistake, since Noel wrote it, it had to be great right? :rotfl2:

My favourite James Patterson book is "When The Wind Blows", which is also the first I have ever read. My favourite series are the Alex Cross novels, but I can honestly say that I have yet to read one of his books that I did not enjoy. They make perfect vacation reading as the chapters are so short.

Corinna

I have been looking at grabbing a couple of these for the Cruise.

I was giving a reader copy Twilight at the End of the World of Tomorrow today, love working at a bookstore. So I will have one real book and dozens on my ipad.
