Apple's running that special, if you get an imac, you can get a free iTouch if you are a college student. Just need to show ID or be able to log into your college e-mail account. The special runs until 9/7. Also, you do end up having to pay for the iTouch but you are sent a voucher to cash as reimbursement.

Hubby went in to get a mini mac but they did not offer the free ipod touch, only a printer. He is a teacher so he did get money off which was good.

So I did some checking and found my 32 gb at Costco. It was less expensive than what Apple wanted, so I got it. I am having such fun checking out apps.:woohoo:

We are on the January Panama Canal.:cool1: That is a fantastic cruise.

we loved the WBPC in 2008 and would do it again but the cost of the cruise is more than double what we paid in 2008 and we were able to do both TA's for the price of the PC in 2011. I would have liked to have been on it - maybe if we win the lottery = because then we would be doing as many B2b's as possible for about a month or 2!

[

I can make the arrangements for the photographer if you would like. The $85 fee will need to be prepaid and all photos would be paid for on the ship.

My 2cents - don't pay for a photographer - I think we have always been able to go to shutters and ask them to "stop by" and take the picture. and if not my hubby can take it with his set up that he brings to take pictures - and then we can have pictures printed at shutters or I can bring CD's and burn the image onto it for everyone for less than $85

Hey guys! I have been lurking for a while. I am amazed at your group! I am hoping to go on the 2012 WBTA and I had some questions for you guys. I have been trying to get a fairly accurate estimate of how this much is going to cost and I see that it is MUCH cheaper to book round trip tickets than one way (I have NO IDEA why!). Have you guys booked that? And if so, how are you going to handle the fact that you are not going back....meaning what are you going to tell the airlines?

I just hope that our group (if I go) will be as organized and as lively as you guys are! I soooo wish I could go with you this time! I need the 2 years to get my nerve up to fly to Europe!

TIA!!
Jen

We booked round trip because it was cheaper - but now we also are doing both parts of the cruise :)

And I've replied! :thumbsup2 I love the options...

Most of the people we're sailing with are doing the B2B but I just wasn't comfy with the notion of Alaska in May - I'm not too keen on the cold!!! BUT, this is a cruise Richard really wanted to do, so I agreed to the last August sailing... Which turned out great as, unbeknown to me, Claire (Pinky166) and her DH booked that one too.

Alaska in August, you'll love it but be prepared for any kind of weather. We have been there in May and had 90 degree weather and then in August never took off our coats. You never can tell. Only thing you can be certain of is it will be beautiful. Buy a toursaver book for half price for big ticket excursions.

Hi Corinna,
Is this for your jewellery workhops?? I too would love to join in - shall I PM you??? Could you direct me to the details - I'm rushing to get thro' the thread but it's pretty crazy and I may miss something... xxx

Corinna has a rather current post in Chapter 8. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=37519915&postcount=17

.....I would love a map of our groups staterooms, being a first time cruiser I know I will get lost, and it will take me a whole day to deliver 15 gifts! Does anyone know how to do this, If someone tells me I can give it a go? ....

There are Deck Plans on the DCL website. I would imagine you create semi-transparent rectangular boxes to overlay the graphic. If I had time, I would take and look and be more clear! I just got a call from my mom and she needs me to drive up and see her today, so I'm rushing.

....Me I was on that Cruise. With my hubby Glenn. I was the one in the Blue Scooter decorated with Belle stickers :) Yes Eric and Jason did the landyards and they were awesome. Though I missed the Dis Picture :(....

Oh I'm so sorry, Ruth!!! Honestly I had forgotten that you were with us!

As for the DIS Picture, as you may recall, Denise was leading that. Since we learned before cruising that there would be a charge for pre-arranging a Shutters photographer, we took the chance that as another DISer told us that if you wait to get on-board and tell them you have a number of people who would likely buy the picture, they wouldn't charge the "sitting fee". Sue enough, that worked! (SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT FOR THE CHAMPAGNE GIRLS) They only gave her about a 24 hour notice as to when they would have a photographer available. THAT IS WHEN the message boards on each cabin deck came in SOOOO handy for communication.

That reminds me....I don't recall seeing anyone post that we have a planned picture day for our group. :confused3

I vote-- group,,,, week-- 2,,, night--- 11 if I get my t-shirts made. Are we bring ears or not?

YES!! Bring your ears if you have them!!

....Shirts? for real? Honest? Ohhhh, can't wait to get out of here and head home!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

For real!! :woohoo: pirate:

Do you have a particular time you recommend for an Alaskan cruise?

I used to quite like the ATeam on TV in the 80s. Might go see this on Orange Wednesday. :thumbsup2

DS LOVED A-Team. I will have to tell him this is a must see for him.:thumbsup2

It strue, but it was either that or kill the next door neighbour kid If I didnt get out and away from the noise.

There was a letter to the editor this morning in our local paper about this.
Evidently someone actually called the police because two little boys were making too much noise in the backyard, MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON, playing on their slip and slide. :confused3 How absurd is that!! :sad2:

I do not think they will not come drag you off the ship and make you get on the return flight. They will give the seat to someone who is standby when you "miss your flight". :thumbsup2

I don't have an iPhone or an iPad. Oddly...for computer stuff I'm typically an apple guy----Longtime Macbook user and had an iMac (a pretty orange one to go with all my tigger stuff :tigger:) before that.....but alas...I'm a Verizon customer and I absolutely LOVE being with Verizon (I almost never am without signal....I was recently at a retreat weekend at a lodge/resort on a mountain near San Francisco with a bunch of my westcoast friends and colleagues who ALL had their fancy iphones and I was the ONLY person with any signal so I was the only person who could make or receive phone calls and texts :lmao:------plus all my cheerleaders and their families are verizon customers so the free in-network calling feature is a big bonus), so an iPhone is out of the question for me. I did just recently get the new droid/htc incredible smart phone though...which is, for all intents and purposes, verizon's version of the iphone....and I love it. I actually just downloaded the Kindle app for it and bought several books to read onboard, as well...so you will see me with my phone onboard the ship a lot....but I'll be using it to read books & maybe use the internet occasionally. (I have 5 books in it...so I'd rather pack the phone and charger than the 5 hard cover books :thumbsup2)

WE have Verizon for the same reason. Years ago we had AT&T, but found if you are not in a metro area, you do not get any service. If you live in a metro area and never go anywhere except other metro areas it is fine, but on a mountain or in a desert somewhere forget getting calls. They do not even sell their plans here in Montana. Not enough population for them to bother with. We had a friend that was driving thru MT and wanted to contact us and see if we wanted to meet them for a meal on their way thru, but their phones did not work. Imagine if they had needed to call for roadside assistance during the 9 or so hour trip across our state. :scared1: So, Verizon for us.

Here is who I have on the list so far - if you do not see your name please PM me ASAP - we are up to 11 cabins and am waiting on one to decide - so that would be 12 - I want to cap it off around with no more than 15. The cut-off for this group will be August 1. We will start another if more new cruisers come on.

Yes, that's exactly right.....by booking "dummy dates" you just pick an itinerary you MIGHT want (but aren't 100% committed to) or you just pick any random itinerary (perhaps based on what has the cheapest booking deposit at that moment if there's a deal) for a ways out in the future. Then once you know more solidly what your plans are, you just cancel switch the reservation----effectively cancelling the one you made and booking the one you want. The benefit is that you typically get to keep your OBC and can often times carry over the onboard booking discount.

For example, when Jason and I were on the Double Dip cruise in the fall of 2008 (where we met many of our fabulous fellow cruisers on this thread----like BuckeyeGal, MagicMe, Disneygirl02, etc.), we all knew through the rumor mill that the Magic was going back to the Med in 2010 even though the dates and itineraries hadn't been announced...and we knew that meant TransAtlantic cruises, too....so Jason and I just booked two back to back cruises for December 2009 that we never had any intention of taking (they were literally like the last available dates at that point I think) and then once they announced the Med dates and the TA trips, we had our travel agent call the morning bookings opened and move our reservations from those Dec. trips to our current B2B trips. It worked out well for us-----the only issue was/is that if the cruise you are switching TO has a higher deposit (the Med and TA cruises had higher deposits than the Caribbean cruises we'd originally booked) then you have to pay the difference....but we were able to keep all our other onboard credits, etc.

Plus....we love having dummy dates not only for the $$$ reason but because that way when you get off the ship, you're doing so with the assurance that another DCL trip is in your future....which is kind of a small light at the end of the tunnel!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Because disembarkation is always a depressing day (I usually quite literally cry the last night of the trip and am usually in the saddest, foulest, *****iest mood the morning we have to get off the ship----because it's always so early :headache: and we cuz we're leaving-----that I need that little pick-me-up of "well, at least we're coming back" to make it through the long drive back to the airport, etc. :lmao::lmao:

Many, many years ago, I worked for the residential portion of Bell of Pennsylvania, then it was changed to Bell Atlantic, then finally to Verizon. I became so turned off especially when we had to close each call with 'Have I taken care of what you called about today?' then try to give information on cell phones, internet and dish tv. etc. I became really dead set against Verizon because of having to deal with service calls gone wrong and loads of other problems. Around here Verizon service is very poor. So I have stuck with A T & T. But I refuse to get an iphone.:lmao:

I know the feeling about leaving after the cruise. At least Stephanie and I know we have two extra days at WDW!!!:woohoo:

Hope everything is okay!

Sorry for causing alarm. It's all okay. She's working on a project for me. She has the day off and ran into a concern, so I need to consult with her. :) I'll be back home tomorrow.

Have a good one all!

Gus just gave me an iPad for my birthday!!! Woohoooo!!!! :dance3:

Now I have something cool to play with on the long flight....if we get to fly (we're on BA).

I thought about Gus yesterday when the news was discussing the jailbreak for the Iphone 4. Has he freed his yet?

From Dorothy Ednie
Hello Connie,

.....

I can make the arrangements for the photographer if you would like. The $85 fee will need to be prepaid and all photos would be paid for on the ship.

I will contact you in a couple of weeks.
Take care, CTC Dorothy Ednie

I have never heard of a fee to take our group DIS shots. We've got plenty of people with really good cameras. I don't see a need to pay a DCL photographer.

As to date/time, whatever they can come up with, I guess we'll roll with it. If we have to, we'll just take over some chairs in one of the rooms.

I agree on both counts. I would suspect quite a few of us have good cameras and tripods. We can set up and take the pics on a timer.

My shirts for the cruise have arrived. Can't wait to wear them!!

Thanks to Todd, Helen, and Sue, and whom ever else I missed.

I must wait for about 7 weeks before i see it.

I feel your pain I am in the same ship. That is why I asked the Captain to put an arrow pointing towards the arrow of shirts that the International pirates will be getting when we arrive at the Magic so we could at least look longingly at them:lmao:

Yay, great present! We're on BA too, Wouldn't that suck, flying all the way from Australia to London, and getting stuck there! Should I be checking out alternative arrangements? :surfweb:

I know a few people have booked back up flights just in case but our fare is non-refundable and we really don't have money for another flight so we are just keeping our fingers crossed that everything works out!!

Happy Birthday and congrats on the cool present!

Thanks!

I love Verizon as well!! We had them before Gus got his iPhone a few years ago! A lot of my friends have the Droid and love it! I'm happy with my Samsung Impression. It doesn't do much but now I have an iPad for all that extra stuff! I plan on bring a few digital books as well! However, I love to hold a real book in my hand so I can't see using the iPad for reading other than traveling but it sure does make it easier!!

I thought about Gus yesterday when the news was discussing the jailbreak for the Iphone 4. Has he freed his yet?

No. But I'm sure he'll have it done this week! He has iPad envy now so he'll need to make his phone better asap! And now he wants to jailbreak my brand new shiny innocent iPad! :sad2:
