Just to let you know that I sent Heather some flowers from the WBTA Cruisers yesterday because I just felt I had to do something. I know in the light of things it is a small gesture but I just wanted her to know we are all thinking of her.:hug::hug::hug:

Anyway .... she received them today and sent me this message:

"Sarah - thank you so, so much for the lovely flowers. The post office tried to deliver them yesterday, but I wasn't in. I collected them this morning and was deeply moved when I saw who they were from. Thank you so much again and please send on my deepest thanks to all the WBTA cruisers for me. I know that you will have have a fantastic time. Heather "

Thank you so much. I also would be willing to through some dinero your way to help offset the cost.

Jason and I wouldn't mind being linked up so that we are in the same restaurant as other DIS folks---although in terms of actual dinner table linking I think we're considering linking up with renegade7 and cinderbear because they're both on the B2B in late seating....so we can sit together for the whole trip...but I'm sure we'd all enjoy being in the same dining room as our other DIS friends, too.

Jason and I don't care what rotation we get honestly...and by the time the WBTA comes around we'll have already eaten in all the dining rooms at least twice plus Palo once----so by then it will be more about the company than about the location! :thumbsup2

Ditto from me.

Sheetz is great! There's one in the Allentown area but not in Quakertown where we live...my husband LONGS for Sheetz sometimes! But we just got our first Sonic there, so at least there is something new! We have three Wawa's within two miles of each other - it's a good thing I like their food! LOL!

Wawa - oh how I miss thee. (Grew up in NEPA outside of Wilkes-Barre and went to school outside of Philly) Now I am craving a Wawa hoagie.

I went to Hershey Park annually growing up. Mom was a hairdresser and there was a conference (Hair show) there every year, then there were the marching band competitions during my HS years and Drum Corps Competitions when I was in college. My senior year in college acutally did a paper on Milton Hershey. What a wonderful man he was for that community.

Okay, I just have to vent! Why is it that when people find out you are having problems physically and then ask you how you are doing - they always bring up the worst - I head of that before, you have cancer, you better get it checked out, it might be serious. Did the doctor say you will live? WHY???????? I am about to scream. Do these people realize how upsetting it is to people like me that get all anxious and wonder if those people are correct and spend their entire afternoon wondering - well, what if....

Okay, I am done venting - thank you!!!! It just blows my mind!!!

Sooooooooo Sorry I guess it is human nature to be so morbid. Work in health care and it gets magnified. I see a higher percentage of stroke patients than any other diagnosis I see. It is amazing to me how over reactive we can become when someone has a bad headache.. I alwayd preface my asking for a motrin with "It is not a stroke, it is a tension headach, now can I please have a motrin or tylenol?" I usually follw up with "No I do not want you to take my blood pressure"

I hope everything works out for you, soooon!

How funny. :worship:We finally got a WAWA here in Virginia a few years ago. It was a sight for sore eyes. Now if we could just get Friehoffers Chocolate Chip cookies my families life would be complete!

I love WAWA and their hoagies!! We have something in Florida called Jimmie John's (chain) that has hoagies that are VERY close to WAWA. I used to love the Hoagies with Munchos chips! Getting hungry and I have a long way to go before dinner.

I would also like to contribute. Is there a way I can do this before the cruise?

What a thoughtful gesture. Thank you & thanks for posting her reply. I would be happy to help with the expense. Let me know.

Another pre-cruise checklist To-Do is complete! The newspaper delivery has been put on hold. The little things in life that make you happy..... :)

OMG - That didn't even make my checklist... Wanna share yours? I am afraid I am missing all sorts of stuff...

We are at 96 days 19 hours and about 5 minutes!!:cool1:

My ticker says 98 days 6 hours, but in 98 days right now we will be boarding, and if we don't do it in the terminal we soon will be saying HI!! to Walt and Di (who are right beind us on the plane!). By this time I am guessing that we will have already said HI!! to Alex and his family...

UK peoples - Poundland is selling the Pitz Burn Factor 20 wrist bottles (they look like large chunky bangles) for £1 each! Bargain!

OK - you have peaked my curiosity - what are these???

Sue, Just missed you!

AMEN SISTER!!

I was reading your post and when I got to the "you are a fountain of knowledge..." remark I hit the quotes button so that I could respond something to the effect of: "When it comes to Broadway shows? OF COURSE---I did mention I'm gay, right?!"....but then as I read further in your post you beat me to the punch!:rotfl2: (Which reminds me, how come there's no smiley waving a rainbow flag? That's a smiley I could use a lot! The closest there is is this: :rainbow: which is cute, but not the same. Although I have been known to sometimes pepper my posts with a little fairy :tinker: On the thread for our Double Dip cruise back in 2008 one of the questions of the week on the boards was something to the effect of "What disney character is most like you?"....and in a particularly campy moment I posted "Tinkerbell----cuz she's a sassy little fairy just like me!" We all suspected the tag fairy might put it under my name...but alas it never happened!

You are hysterical!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
Should we protest for Gay Smiley Rights? "We want rainbow smiley's, and we want them NOW!" :rotfl:
Where is that Tag Fairy when you need her?:confused3

That was so thoughtful of you. Thank-you for including all of us and passing on her message. I would like to contribute if I can, Please let us know.

Actually I told a lie as that was my old perscription! They gave me a new sheet with my glasses today that said -6.25 and -6.25

You are lucky, you don't have an astigmatism, so if you were desperate you could buy those glasses from the service station for $10 and get away with it. If you got the -6 or -6.5 you'd be OK! :thumbsup2

I just called the hotel again with better success. She stated that they must have written authorization for payment, so you have to either fax the authorization [(34) 93.304.33.32] with the the following information or send an email to reservas@hotelpraktikrambla.com.

  • Name on Reservation
  • Reservation Confirmation Number
  • State you authorize payment for <insert your fee in Euros>
  • Name on Card
  • Credit/Debit Card Number
  • Card Expiration Date

As Krisann suggested, another alternative to secure the good Euro exchange rate right now is to order additional Euros from your currency source to cover this expense. Although, I would call or email to confirm cash is acceptable because I see the following noted on their website as well as on my confirmation email. I'm sure it's really just referencing what credit cards they accept, however, the way it's worded does leave room for uncertainty.

Payment
You will need to pay for your entire stay on arrival, we only accept credit cards (AMEX, Visa, Euro/Mastercard, Diners Club and Maestro)

Color me paranoid, but whenever I send my credit card information overseas, as I've had to do numerous times for business, I split the information into separate e-mails. There are no guarantees, but at least it's less likely that a printed copy of the e-mail could be picked up (or plucked out of the trash) with everything that a thief would need to use the card.

Just to echo the words of others, thank you such a thoughtful gesture, i'll be sure to put an extra something in your FE, One good deed deserves another

I think they're a large hollow plastic braclet filled with sun tan cream. You wear around your wrist so you don't have to carry it and then it's always on-hand to slap on....

or maybe that should be ON-WRIST ;)

What a wonderful gesture. We would like to contribute in some way.

We are not linked with anyone for dining and after some thought, I think we would rather sit with people from this board, so if anyone is interested we are late dining and ae willing to link with the group. Donna and Joi

Has someone found a good place to get euros near the interbank rate here in the US?

When I bought a few last week I paid 5.8% premium over interbank rate here in TX.

So if I were to buy euros to pay my hotel I would be paying about 6% more than I would if I used my Capital One card which has 0% international currency exchange fee. (Most credit cards have 3% international exhange fee)

My theory is that I am going to put everything I can on my Capital One card because of the 0% international exchange fee and just get about 200 euro walking around/ snack/ taxi money. I would be really nervous walking around with more money than that.

We just need enough euros to get to the boat. We can always cash a US travellers check and get euros for Madeira on the boat.

We did look at international ATMs and our bank charges a 3% intl currency conversion charge as well as a $5 fee every time we withdrew some money.

I think there are a few credit unions and a brokerage house (Charles Schwab?) that will allow no fee, 0% intl currency conversion charges.

But what I really want to know where you can get cheap foreign currency???:surfweb:

I am so excited- I just found my dress that I am going to wear for formal nights. I am now ready to cruise. (Just had to share the joy with someone who would understand the feeling(s):)

I did :) Way back good to know I will not request any rotation. I do not really care where we eat. Good table company is so more important :)
Thanks again for being keeper of the list.

I can guarantee that we will be on some rotation!! :lmao:

O you're just as naughty as me!

if you're allowed to do it then i don't feel nearly as bad now :rotfl:

SW

I was not going to say anything, but you shamed me into it when you fessed up! :rotfl:

.....I don't care which dining rotation we're in. I just want to be linked with the DISers :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info! I just applied for a Capital One card to use on vacation:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 on your dining rotation approach!

Great! Glad that little bit of info is helpful to you!

....having recently lost my FIL, who was the glue to my husband's family, I am still in a state of shock (Ok its been 16 months) and still not sure what to say to anyone.....

 Time eases some shock and pain, but we will always miss our loved ones and be speechless at times. It's not easy, and we are only human.

...Why is it that when people find out you are having problems physically and then ask you how you are doing - they always bring up the worst....

I'm just speechless. There is no excuse for that kind of insensitivity. My mom is a nurse, and sometimes she'll get in that "matter-of-fact", "all business" talk, but of course never to the person going through the difficult time. However, sometimes *I* don't want to hear that either. So sorry, hun!

They (Restaurant.com) have fantastic deals at times. There was one time when I was getting $25 certs for $1.50. I don't think I've gone lower than that - at least for getting a certificate!...

Michael, I've had similar experiences with them, too! Sometimes you will even discover a new, awesome place that you may have never considered going to. I've even purchased them for my brother (family of 7) who lives in another state. They refresh their inventory of available GC's at the first of each month, so you have to keep an eye on it!

OMG - That didn't even make my checklist... Wanna share yours? I am afraid I am missing all sorts of stuff...

Okay...not sure if you were serious or not, but I'll pass mine along. It's nothing extraordinary, but you never know if there may be something that applies to you that you need to plan for....like newspaper delivery! :confused3

Brilliant idea!

I'm on the same wave of thinking as you are. I went to my bank, Chase, today. Honestly, I didn't specifically ask what they were going to charge because I just had to do it regardless. When I left home and returned home, the exchange was just barely under $1.20, just as it was at close of business yesterday. They charged me $1.2588 per EUR, which is 5% above the current exchange rate. One thing to note is that I had an employee account (EA) before I was unemployed, and I'm not sure that the EA flag was ever taken off my account. :) At the same time, I don't recall currency exchange as being a "perk" we got as an employee.

A friend of mine in international finance gave me some advice about getting the currency right now. He said to approach it with the 50/50 hedging strategy since there's so much uncertainty right now. So I only got half of the amount I want to carry around. As the summer progresses, I'll evaluate when it's the best time for me to purchase the rest. That levels off some of the lost opportunity risk. Not only that, some out-of-pocket expenses may become more clear, and I may not need as much as I'm forecasting currently.

So for now, I have my hotel paid off with my Capital One card as you plan to do, and I plan to pre-purchase my double-decker on/off tour bus ticket for Barcelona as well as my day tour to Montserrat and Sitges with my Capital One card as well. "What's in YOUR wallet?" :rotfl: ;)
