I am petrified of getting sea sick! We boat most weekends, but not very often off shore. I have been sea sick once and it was the worst, I would rather be in labour! I can deal with pain, but not sick!
Anyone have any remedies that work? Ginger tablets? :confused3

Prescription patch that goes behind the ear works great. On the first EBTA we had a few days rough seas and I felt great.

Thanks, will see the Doc before we go! :thumbsup2

I "know" someone who received a letter in her fish explaining the emergency procedures because she wasn't on board for the life boat drill.

We had a similar letter, and we were actually at the drill!!!! I was so MAD. Made me feel sooooooo guilty! The guy kept calling out our cabin number and I kept shouting and waving. The other folk sitting close by were laughing at usand our attempts to be noticed. It was so noisy in there.:headache: I even told one of the crew members on our way back to our rooms that we were there and would she check we were marked!!! We wrote a slightly terse reply straight away I can tell you.:)

My sis and nephew were sick when they sailed with us (we sailed thru hurricane Olga) and the crew recommendedginger ale and green apples. They helped alot. I take a dramimine every morning for the first few days, they last 24 hours and taking them just when I wake up helps combat the drowsiness. I started feeling sick at dinner on our very first cruise, thus I take the pill until I get adjusted to the ship just so I don't get sick.

I take a Bonine around sailaway time for that first night, but it does make me drowsy the next day. I thought I had bought 'Non drowsy' bonine, but it appears the best you can get is 'Less drowsy'!!!!:rotfl2:

Our DD and her family are visiting from Oregon for a few days. We took a trip up to Glacier National Park today. It is a 3 hr drive due north of us. It is beautiful! But we were only able to drive 14 miles into Thursday Dennis and I drove to Helena, MT which is 2.5 hours northeast of us. (he had an appt at the VA hospital over there) That drive was amazing also. We live in such a beautiful area. :cloud9: Today I said a prayer of thanks, while looking across McDonald Lake, that I was given this Montana man in my life who would bring me here to live.

:thumbsup2 It must be a stunning area Angie.

I hope Dennis is ok too.

redUm, :rolleyes1

I have it on a very good source (who shall remain nameless) :rolleyes1 that they "accidentally missed" the drill and didn't even get "back" on the ship until like 7:30 (just in time for dinner) and the ship didn't sail away. Course, that was when it left the following day so I wouldn't suggest doing that but the consequences of missing the drill? Zilch. Not even a make-up one. (I) Um....the person ( ) kept excepting someone from high up to come and do a make-up but nothing happened.

In 2007 we were told those that missed it were told off by one of the officers and had to do the drill later but whether they did or not I don't know?

Thank you for all the new additions to the Inbound Barcelona Flight List. I already see potential hook-ups in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Heathrow! Keep them coming!

It's been a BEAUTIFUL day here in Ohio, although pretty hot. I'm happy it's such a nice weekend since my dear friend Peter is getting married tomorrow. I just put on the new black and white dress I bought for the wedding and a seating at AP so I could pick out jewelry for it (I see those eyes rolling, men!). It felt good to think about packing that up for the cruise!

Gold Castaway Club members are undoubtedly anxious for this coming Wednesday! I'm still Silver, so my wait lives on. I picked up another video on the Eastern Caribbean and "Fodor's See It Barcelona" book at the library for my research. I really wish I could find a video on Madeira.

Wednesday? Isn't it Saturday we get to book from? Very confused?

OK all...I need your help. My DW and I have never been anywhere where our American money was not accepted. I don't know anything about Euros and other money accepted in the ports we are calling on in Europe. When you guys get a chance, could you educate my DW and I about the different monies....
Also, my daughter asked if she will be able to call us. We have Verizon cell phones.....anyone have any idea if we will be able to use them to call her?

Thanks very much!

Tom & Marilou

Euros are a bit like Dollars. Mostly there's notes. No need to get too hung up on them as actually its easier with Euros then Dollars really. Prices shown are prices paid - sales tax is already included. These are used in Barcelona and Madiera

In Gibraltar pounds youll find you have a lot more coins rather than notes - we do a £1 coin instead of a bill. Youll be fine though.

As for calling, while in port you may be able to but check with Verizon that your phone is compatible. At sea you wont be able to at all! That's what we found anyway!

I don't care about Aly and AJ, but I'll take Joey Fatone!!!! I was/am a HUGE 'N Sync fan!!!! I won't stalk him or anything, but if he entertains, I'll be lined up at the doors of the Walt Disney Theater ahead of time!!!!! :thumbsup2

I want Boyz II Men again like the last time! I did however stalk them alot! :D

Oh my, so many pages!

Don't get your hopes up about entertainment on the TA cruises. We didn't have any "names" on the EBTA--totally different than the Panama Canal sailing. We did have a group of Flamenco dancers who were great (but you've never heard of them). We had a couple of American Idol "also rans" who did a very so-so performance. THey brought on a retired canal boat captain who did some really horrible lectures, and my favorite Imagineer who was super (as always). However, neither of these could be considered entertainers.

I'm so glad I have this cruise booked. I have to cancel our December sailing. DD got accepted to her first choice university (she'd been accepted to second choice long ago). However, her finals week and our December cruise conflict, so......I could go alone on that one too, but I don't think that would make for happy family.

Sounds like this cruise will have to do for the 2 but I'm sure it will.

I don't have much hope in the entertainment after seeing the EBTA but I guess we just have to wait and see!

It look like it will be 11 of us at philly airport. We can have a mini meet in the airport at Chickies and Petes and have a cheese steak.

Now an update on my arm. My arm is swelling up a lot and having some pain. I was at the physical therapist on Friday and she said my arm is getting worst. She made my a custom made split so a can not rotate my arm over. She also give me a list of orthopedic surgeons in the area and said start doing my research. This is not looking good. I'm still hoping for good news on Thursday after my MRI.

Stephen

Oh Stephen sending you all our best wishes!

I'm sure they probably did speak "harshly" to those that missed it - assuming that they caught them - :) But in all truthfulness, the "said" party didn't set out to miss it. One in the party sincerely thought they would be back in time. :teeth: Ahem, so actually the wool was pulled over their head too. :ssst: but don't tell anyone. Our secret. ;)

I am profoundly sea sick on small vehicles and very suggestable around nausea in general. I had a patch but was hesitant to use it because of side-effects I had heard about. I used the bonine tablets supplied on the ship (and I bought some at the airport as they aren't available in Canada). They worked great. I found that I was only a little nauseous on the first night, but after that was absolutely fine, even with the ship rocking and rolling.

Sounds lovely. There are so many places in N.America we have yet to visit but will one day. I'm super-excited to visit Montana in those travels.

A little late, but with all the talk about mickey bars, I thought I'd post a picture of the pirate bar from the WBTA in 2007

MomCruiseKodak156-1.jpg

It's not a good picture, but it gives you an idea of what it looked like. It was vanilla & chocolate ice cream with only the top dipped in chocolate.

This was the recipe I used..... (from the Sainsbury web site).......

Mascarpone & Lime Torte

A dessert that could also be made using the zest and juice of oranges or lemons.

Serves: 8
Preparation time: 40 Minutes
Cooling Time: 30
Nutrition per serving: 431 cals, 34g fat, of which 5g saturated fat, 15g added sugar, 0.3g salt

You will need
• 200g pack ginger biscuits, crushed
• 50g butter, melted
• 2 x 250g tubs mascarpone cheese
• 40g icing sugar, sifted
• Finely grated zest and juice of 2 limes* (I used 3 for extra zing!)
• 50g dark chocolate, melted and made into chocolate leaves

Method
1. Mix together the crushed biscuits and the butter and press it into the base of a 18cm spring form cake tin. Beat together the mascarpone cheese, icing sugar, lime zest and juice. Spread over the biscuit base.
2. Chill for 30 minutes. Carefully remove the torte from the tin, by running a warmed knife around the inside of the rim, and decorate the top with chocolate leaves or shredded lime zest.

Enjoy!:rolleyes1

OK I just made this and have to say the mascapone filling tastes so so yummy! Used 30% less fat mascapone mind!

Where can I find the inbound flight list and to whom shall I send our details?

Details go to Buckeye Gal - Kimberley and I'm not sure where the info is on this thread but if you've already bookmarked thread 6 its on page 1
