I heard a few times that people don't really dress up for the formal nights on DCL. That's fine, it's your vacation so you should wear what you feel comfortable in.

But i really wanna get dressed up. Am i gonna be in the minority. Are folks gonna point and laugh at me:rotfl:

SW

I will definitely dress up. I ordered one evening gown already and this arrived earlier this week and I will have one custom made. I love dressing up.

Hi Everyone,

Well it looks like we will be joining you too. we are currently just negotiating the time off with the school and then it should be all go!

About Us
There are four of us, Me (michelle, DH Chris, DS7 Nick and DD5 Lillian. We were on the original EB in 2007 and this is our fourth Disney Cruise.
We are DVC members.
We are Austrailan, but live in Dubai.
And i think my husband may work for the same company as Corinna.

Anyway i have read all five million or so pages and can see it will be a great cruise with all of you fun and talkative people!

We would love to join in everything and i will pm all the right (i hope) people soon.

:welcome: on board.
I am a bit jealous that you live in Dubai. I hope that eventually a promotion will take us there as well. Does your husband work for EK? What does he do? I am a team leader at the European Call Centre. We are a bit excited over here at the moment as we were just told on Tuesday that we are going to get a A380 serving one of the Manchester flights every day from September 1st.

OK just got very excited! Don "Ducky" Williams is sailing with us

Oh, that is great. I was hoping that eventually I would be on a cruise that he was on as well.

Also the carpets were being ripped up in the stairwells:sad2:

Well, we were on deck 6 and they started ripping up the carpets right at the beginning of the cruise. By the time we were back at Port Canaveral, they were long since done.

Some good news today. I was able to downgrade our stateroom category from Cat 8GTY to Cat 10GTY and save $1000, while confirming we wouldn't lose the additional $100/pp OBC. Every little bit helps!

That is great news. I hope that means that you will still be able to join us.

Well, I nearly survived the week from hell. I ended up working 9 days in a row. The ninth and last day will be tomorrow, but that should be OK. Not only will it be a public holiday, which tends to be quieter anyway, but I have 3 hours assigned to do an online course so I finish with my normal duties at 12. I have Saturday and Sunday off.

In three weeks, I will be in Barcelona. I can't believe how time flies. I think I can do my ADRs for our post cruise stay for this cruise tomorrow. This kind of has crept up on me and I have no idea where I want to eat this time round. The only thing I know is that I want a breakfast at The Wave.

I am starting to work on my gifts for the FE exchange. Are we still thinking about 25 cabins per group? I'm trying to plan ahead. Thank you. :wizard:

:headache::hug:

:cheer2::yay: Good for you! That is the hardest thing to do!
I will share that when I quit way back in 1997, around 10 months out was my hardest time. I mentioned it to a friend at the time, who I did not know was an ex-smoker, and she encouraged me to stick with it and told me it would get WAY better after a year. She was right and I am so, so thankful that I talked with her or I would still be a smoker today. STICK WITH IT!!!

Feel free to PM me if you ever need some encouragement with this!

Thanks for the offer its kind of you. I gave up with dh Carl, Unfortunatley he started again, but is now at 7 weeks smoke free so fingers crossed he does it this time. :thanks:

:we
HI Jan

Well done on quitting smoking!

I can believe i've got fellow dis cruisers just down the road from me.

I'm in Reading.!!!

See you on-board.

SW

Wow what a coinsidence you living in Reading. :cool1: I love shopping in Reading, I recently bought a dress there for formal night and have my nails done in a little salon opposite Primark.

Talking about the cabins, we booked a cat 6 gty, because thats all were left in Aug '08. We were given our room no
about a month later. :thumbsup2

I thought the FE exchange was one gift bag per cabin. Is it per person? I was going to put everything in one bag per cabin. Is that okay? Otherwise my luggage and budget will be shot. Thanks.

Brenda

Thanks for all your views on formal nights.

I now feel loads more confident about dressing up and not being the odd one out.

SW

What I am thrilled about is NOT having to dress up EVERY night. In the old days, i.e. pre 1980, we had to dress up every night. You would be turned away from the dining room if you were not wearing what was considered proper attire. Men had to wear a jacket and tie and women wore cocktail or long dresses every night. You also had a formal night where most every man wore a tux and the women wore evening gowns.

With the airline flight restrictions these days, no way could you get that dressed up every night.

You guys are very generous. My message did not come out quite as I intended, but I appreciate the sentiment.

I was not sure if there was any group activities planned, and if so are they open to everyone. I was on a cruise once where it was more of a closed event and several folks were insulted or hurt. I try to be careful and considerate of others.

Thanks for the welcome and advice. I will try to be on here more often.

I certainly get the sense that all are welcome at everything with this group. :grouphug:

pirate:Welcome..... from scotland

Does that mean I will get a huggle??? I love huggles:cloud9:

More than likely many, many of you will get huggles. He does love hugs and he gives great hugs. The nickname DrHug was given to him by one of his technicians years ago and it stuck because it is just so him.:grouphug:

Brenda

Usually it is per cabin, but in some cases there may be two FE's at one cabin....i.e. PJ is participating and DrHug and I are participating. We share our stateroom with PJ so we would hope that a little something gets put in both FEs that are on the door. Same with Tinker1bell and steffy, friends sharing a room. We will be doing one FE per family to share....some do per person depending on what the little gift is. It really is up to you.

I hate dressing up and Amanda loves it. So she will probably out dress me on most nights. I'm also concerned about the weight limit on luggage! So I will probably "recycle" a couple of outfits :)

I would be glad to pay a fee to paint a cell with Ducky! I have stayed across the hall from him, he likes deck 6 aft. And I have had the pleasure to share a table at breakfast with him (and dr. hugs.)

Does anyone else check every day to see if their stateroom has been assigned yet? I know it's super-early, but I can't seem to stop checking! :rotfl2:

Only on the days I can get to a computer, lol.

Actually, I am doing Secret Mickey instead. I won't have luggage space, so thought SM would be a great way to still be involved.

On the same thought I was told that if you have two "groups" in one room you should make note on the reservation for special gifts, like Ducky art gifts. Talk to DCL or your TA.

PJ - are you on the website for the FE? If so, can you edit your entry so I don't mess it all up? :)

Holy cow! It's taken me hours to catch up after missing a few days. I'm not sure what all we'll be able to attend since our kids are so little. I just don't know what it will be like with our then 21 month old. I know our 4 year old will be fine. This will be our daughters first time able to go to the clubs. She's very shy! So, I'm hoping she'll enjoy it and want to go sometimes. If anything our little boy will be the one throwing a fit! So, I'm sure you guys will not enjoy that. Or at least I'm hoping he'll grow out of that in 5 months??? This will be an interesting trip for us! Hoping for the best, but also being realistic in what all we can do with little ones.

When do they normally get released, 30 days out? Do they get released earlier sometimes?

Was it 25 cabins or 25 people? :confused3

:cutie:

I think 25 cabins? So you can do a gift for the whole cabin, or seperate gifts for everyone in the room. So, I intend on doing the kids their own gifts, and then adults seperately.

Gosh, I was worried about my DD's who will be 8 & 9 throwing tantrums. At least it's more acceptable for a 2 year old to do one! Someone suggested we score them, My 8 year old does a really good one!:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Brenda that's absolutely fine! It can be either to be honest depending on what the gift is

Are you calling your shoes garbage Lynne???:lmao:

Hi again and thanks for all the welcomes.

It seems like there will be a good mix of people from all over the world - even a good representation from Down Under.

Corinna my husband is a captain with EK on the 777. I did hear last week that the 380 was going to start doing the route - Chris will be dissapointed he went to Uni in Manchester and loves doing that flight.

I would love to go to a "Ducky" call painting class (although i am a terrible artist) i wonder if kids can go my DS loves art and unlike his mother is actually talented.

Lisa, my DD will be 51/2 at the time of the cruise and loves making new friends, after an initial 10 minute period of shyness. it seems that most of the kids going are a similar age so that should make it easy. and it is probably fair to say each kid will get over excited and have some form of meltdown at least once.

dressing for formal evening is always fun - to combat weight restrictions the same dress with new accessories often works. or just tell everyone else that your traveling with they can only bring one change of clothes and a swim suit and use their baggage allowance. :rotfl:
