Who hasn't booked airfare yet? This so not me, I normally book the day the schedule opens, but this trip, I am so not sure.

I did a lot research last year doing test flights for September '09. And saw flights at about $550, with one stop.

Today was a vacation day for me, we have to use up our days by April 30th. So I did some searching and found;
(JFK-BCN 09/16/10);

Aer Lingus for $591.00, one stop via Dublin, booked direct with the airline. (website showing sale fares up to June 15, a sign to wait?)

Air France for 562.00, no stops, booked on airfare.com (?) The same flight is over 2000.00 on Kayak, Air France and Travelocity. I believe this is actually a Delta code share flight. I haven't ever book via any site other then direct with an Airline, so this kind of worries me, just by virtue of the unknown.

I am thinking that sometime in the next 30 days I will book, fingers crossed. Perhaps I should check in with the campus TA and see what they can do.

PJ, I booked thru a travel site I had not used before (forget the name right now, but it was cheap!) and I was a bit nervous. But, I called the airline (Swiss Air) to get seat assignments and they did indeed have us booked and gave me seats....which I think I want to call and change after looking at seat guru.

A bunch of us booked flights on US Air through Philly when they had a short sale the 3rd week of January. My flight with taxes, etc. from DCA to Philly to BCN was $401 a ticket. I was just about to book through one of the consolidator sites (flycheapabroad, airfare.com, 1800europe, etc.) when that deal came out.

I did set up a farewatch on kayak which was very helpful in alerting me to the sale price.

Someone asked about the Meridian hotel. It's one of the Disney hotel options, but a bunch of folks booked rooms there in the fall when they were on sale for 167 euros or so. I still have a family suite room reserved there for 215 euros for the two nights before the cruise, but I'm probably going to be canceling that unless a great rate appears where I can get my FIL booked in there as well. We're currently planning on staying at the Airport Renaissance on points.

Hello All -

My DW and I will be joining you on this cruise to bring the Magic home to Port Canaveral.

We live in Cleveland Ohio and have very similar snow to some of you. It seems as though the east coast got hit a lot harder this time around. We only got about a foot to 18 inches of the white stuff. But it has been cold. It has not been above freezing in about a month.

Have you all made your own flight reservations to BCN? I was doing some checking and could not find a price less than what the air add-on is. What have been your flight costs?

Looking forward to seeing everyone in September.

Hmm, interesting, that is the same site. This is the first I had ever seen it, but that makes me feel more comfortable with them.

Pj

The airline is expecting us so I am sure it is fine. Just get the best price.

For all that travels West,I need a little help.

Question 1
When we fly into Barcelona can you get your passports stamped? ON ours last trip out of Barcelona they did not stamp them. Maybe that a thing of the past.

Question 2
with 2 1/2 days in Barcelona will it be hard to order food in the local eatery I only speak English ?

Like always thinks for all the help

We got home last night after a week at Disneyland celebrating Dennis' birthday. I like it better there than here. :rolleyes1

If you're back down this way before we head to Barcelona maybe we can connect! Though it may have to be sooner rather than later what with our upcoming move. Glad you had a great time at DLR!

Hey-

I had an extra crappy day: Got served (along with some co-workers) for a totally frivolous and asinine lawsuit for $750,000. It's not related to any clinical work or professional duties, just a stupid retaliatory nonsense suit as payback for reporting abusive behavior of a local person to a very disenfranchised young woman, that nonetheless will require hours and hours of meetings with lawyers, compiling evidence, and just refuting the idiocy. I am sooooo going to need my vacation (I am usually a very laid-back, easy-going crunchy-granola knitter- this is way too much drama!) I have never been served before (and hope to never be again!)

Arrghhhhhh. I want to hide under my quilt after a long bath (no bathtub for another 2 weeks).

On the plus-side: we are fairly snow-free! The pictures I have been seeing posted are wonderful and wild! I'm sorry for all the inconvenience it is causing some of you.

Just have to say, "oh crap!" to all that. Not fun at all!!!

Also wanted to say "adios" for a few days. Marc and I are off to Cabo to visit his brother and s-i-l for the next 5 days. I just hate that we're not inundated with snow, nasty cold weather, and anything else the rest of you are dealing with. 80 degrees and tequila definitely agrees with me though. Hope to meet up with some of y'all in March at the DLR meet!

Until next week, be well folks!

Michael

Question 2
with 2 1/2 days in Barcelona will it be hard to order food in the local eatery I only speak English ?

Haven't been to Barcelona before, but we honeymooned in Spain 14.5 years ago and didn't have too much trouble getting food. We'd try our best to order in spanish, but sometimes we just had to give up and ask for an english menu to find the dish we were looking for. Many of the quick service places we ate in had pictures of the food which was helpful. "Jamon y Queso" (ham and cheese) was a good staple when we couldn't decide on something better. I love that Serrano ham!!

The funniest experience we had on our honeymoon was trying to figure out tapas. We'd been told we had to get tapas. We found that when you went into a bar and ordered a drink, they'd give you one piece of the tapas of the day. But they'd never offer you any more, or ask if you wanted to order anything to eat. So we'd go from bar to bar to get multiple bites of food, then would go pass out if our room until we were sober enough to get dinner! It was our last night before we realized we could just ask for a menu to order more!

Wow the snow pics are amazing! I can't compete with anything like that and I'm loath to mention that we are having a poor summer in case I get flamed :lmao: Though its been an amazing year for our lilies flowering (for those on my Facebook friends list, check out my profile pics).

Morning all!

Only 32 weeks to go. Time to get really serious about doing some things I was going to do before the trip. I want to learn a phrase a week in Spanish before we go.

Thanks for the sites, I'm not good at languages but I do like to remind myself how to say, please, thank you etc in the language of the country I'm in. Luckily its not that long since I went to Peru and Ecuador so its still relatively fresh in my mind.

irates party?!?! And how am I going to get to play in the lab now?! :rotfl2: I'm going to have to adopt someone else's fabulously sassy & stylish child now!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Can't help with a child, but if you'd like a badly behaved, giggly, senior to tag along with, let me know... else we are stuck with her :rotfl:

We can't wait to meet you all ..... LOL at the good friends comment. I get that all the time when I tell people about my internet friends ... and I actually have more in common with my internet Disney friends as some of my local friends and work colleagues just don't get it :confused3

OMG you mean you are actually supposed to have met your friends in real life? I often say I'm traveling with a few hundred friends I haven't met yet.

Yikes, that sounds nasty. Hope it works itself out quickly for you!

For all you peeps learning Spanish[/SIZE]

I dont want to be a miserable cow but you do know they will answer you back in English if you talk to them in Spanish:confused3
They are so mean in the main europe cities.
This has been what Ive found anyway, anybody found anything differant?

Thats very true .... I have been very frustrated in France when I try to speak a few words of basic French and the French just answer me in better English than I speak myself :confused3:confused3:confused3
I imagine it will be very similar in Spain (plus my Spanish is a lot worse than my French)

I don't think we get out passports stamped in Europe but I suppose it might be different for non-European citizens.

As far as the language goes you will find a lot of people speak and understand English so it won't be a problem. You will also find quite a lot of the local eateries are quite familiar ie. Hard Rock Cafe, Starbucks etc etc

Not sure about the stamps - it does seem to be going out of fashion to do tht.:confused3

Food wise most folk will speak English, but might make it hard for you!!!!! As long as you can say hello, please and thankyou and keep smiling, and can utilise your fingers to point and give amounts you should be ok!!!:rotfl2:

Hello - Hola

Please - Por favor

Thank you - Gracias

I'm sure you knew those. If you have children some will be learning Spanish won't they?

We're in the same boat as Dale from Cleveland (well, as all of you really:)). We are also from Cleveland and have booked airfare through DCL. Although the price per person seemed high ($900) at the time we booked, I've not been able to find anything cheaper. We would need to fly to NY or Philadelpia, then on to Barcelona with the return from Orlando. I tried searching with one-way flight ($827 not including return from Orlando) and round trip to Barcelona ($865 also doesn't include return from orlando). I even tried multi-city Cleve to Philly to Barcelona/Orlando to Cleveland ($1012) Since DCL includes transfers and because, unfortunately, we will need to fly in on the red-eye the day of the cruise, I think we'll probably stick with the DCL. We have never travelled overseas and since we can't take additional time off work to fly in early, it may be safest for us to stick with DCL. That said, I will keep checking because if I can find something for a significant change in price, I would definitely prefer to save the extra $ for excursions and drinks on the ship !! Getting very exciting for this trip. We get to enjoy my nephew's wedding in WDW in May first...after that it's on to serious transatlantic planning!

dos beer por pavor. :thumbsup2

but as I said, they will then answer you in english and ask something clever:lmao:

ooooohhhh .... I know that one ......

"Dos Cervezas por favor."

Probably the only Spanish phrase I know other than ...

"Donde esta los cabanos" .... which I think is " where are the bathrooms"

Both essential phrases in my opinion :rotfl:

I need to learn this one...

Si us plau puc tenir un margarita?
(May I have a Margarita please?)

And this one...

pot suggerir un vi negre local per provar?
(can you suggest a local red wine to try?)

I think they both may come in handy... :thumbsup2
