Hello All -

My DW and I will be joining you on this cruise to bring the Magic home to Port Canaveral.

We live in Cleveland Ohio and have very similar snow to some of you. It seems as though the east coast got hit a lot harder this time around. We only got about a foot to 18 inches of the white stuff. But it has been cold. It has not been above freezing in about a month.

Have you all made your own flight reservations to BCN? I was doing some checking and could not find a price less than what the air add-on is. What have been your flight costs?

Looking forward to seeing everyone in September.

Dale

:welcome: Dale and DW!!!

We booked our own air and saved money. Disney was just too expensive. Many of the travel websites have great prices but be sure to check around because the same flight will vary greatly between the sites.

Welcome! Don't forget to sign in at the roll call.

We had much the same problem as you with price. Our airfares from our home airport are very high.

We did end up doing it cheaper ($840 pp total) than the DCL price ($1014 pp). We booked directly with Lufthansa. They had some decent prices for a one way fare ($688) which didn't show up on sites like Travelocity. I can't recall if the USAirways cheap fare (more like $400-450) showed up on Travelocity.

Looks like the cheap tickets are currently gone from the US Airways site. Lufthansa has a fare of $675 one way from CLE to BCN, but you have to change planes twice, so it may not be a viable option for you.

There are only a few airports where you can catch a non stop to BCN: JFK, Newark, PHL, ATL, and YYZ - Toronto.

We are taking a n/s to a European destination and then a short flight to BCN.

At least you have SW coming back from MCO. You can probably get some decent fares there!

Just a couple of other thoughts, DCL airfare prices do include transfers (BCN to port & FL port to MCO). Also, you didn't say when you are coming in. If you are arriving the day of the cruise, DCL airfare will help get you to the ship on time. Most of us are arriving at least a day early which gives us a little wiggle room on delayed flights when booking on our own.

Good luck!

Loving all the snow pictures even though some of them are making me a little claustrophobic!!

This is the closest we really get to snow. The view from our place...

Thankfully we live on about two thirds of an acre with neighbors on about the same amounts. I remember living in the city and there I did feel claustrophobic. Am I getting cabin fever? Since I have been home since Monday because of my layoff ----- youbetcha :lmao:
Must get out tomorrow. Must go somewhere!!!!

Kathy,[/I] I have been practicing my Spanish with my iPod Touch. I don't have much hope, as I studied French for 10 years and I have trouble putting together a sentence. :sad2: So I also pick an app that allows me to put together a sentence and it will speak it for me, but I would have no idea the answers:headache:.
Pj

Thanks for the heads up on the apps. I downloaded 3 or 4 free Spanish language apps last night. We will see if that helps! :rotfl:

I was part of an experiment in kindergarten to "expose" us to foreign languages early. So I "learned" French then. I think that that is my problem with Spanish! I try to pronounce Spanish words as I would French with disasterous results. :lmao:

I just booked our FF flight on United to Frankfort for Monday Septi 13. John and I are deciding how to get to Barcelona from Frankfort. He wants to take a train so I am going to check costs etc.:surfweb:

For all you peeps learning Spanish

I dont want to be a miserable cow but you do know they will answer you back in English if you talk to them in Spanish:confused3
They are so mean in the main europe cities.
This has been what Ive found anyway, anybody found anything differant?

Lynne, this might be good news then, I will use the ipod to ask the question and they could answer in english, lol. I would be ok, lol.

PJ,

Hey-

I had an extra crappy day: Got served (along with some co-workers) for a totally frivolous and asinine lawsuit for $750,000. It's not related to any clinical work or professional duties, just a stupid retaliatory nonsense suit as payback for reporting abusive behavior of a local person to a very disenfranchised young woman, that nonetheless will require hours and hours of meetings with lawyers, compiling evidence, and just refuting the idiocy. I am sooooo going to need my vacation (I am usually a very laid-back, easy-going crunchy-granola knitter- this is way too much drama!) I have never been served before (and hope to never be again!)

Arrghhhhhh. I want to hide under my quilt after a long bath (no bathtub for another 2 weeks).

On the plus-side: we are fairly snow-free! The pictures I have been seeing posted are wonderful and wild! I'm sorry for all the inconvenience it is causing some of you.

Just the thought of snow covering part of my windows and doors would make me crazy! :scared1: I'm glad you are finally getting out!!

What a beautiful view you have.

That is an amzing view, GORGEOUS.

Thanks! Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this most of the time! It just happened to be one of those rare perfect days that I just had to share!!

Hi everybody. The German school my children attend told us last week that we can have permission to take the kids on the cruise, HOWEVER if we do so Marika will have to repeat 8th grade:headache: It does not seem to matter what her grades are or if she is caught up or not--they will just start her in 8th next year because she will be missing two weeks:confused3 Sooooo, as much as it breaks my heart to miss this one and not sail with all of you wonderful people (I am especially upset to not be sailing with Erik and Jason now--it is hard only seeing your good friends once in a blue moon and then giving that up) we have had to reconsider. We moved the reservation to the May 26 med cruise as that falls during the two weeks Marika and Rio are out for spring break (yes that is late--but summer does not start until July 31).
I hope you all have a lovely, lovely time on the TA. Oh, and lanyard team, no worries, I will get the info on to Erik.

Oh, so sorry!!

Welcome, Dale and DW!!!! Glad to have you aboard.

Thanks for the info on the flights. I am not sure if we are going to fly in a day or two early or not. Has anyone worked with Disney on any Pre Cruise packages? Where is everyone staying the night before?

I am trying not to even THINK about how much I'm going to miss having Rio aboard-----WHO is going to dance with me at the sailaway party?!? And the Pirates party?!?! And how am I going to get to play in the lab now?! :rotfl2: I'm going to have to adopt someone else's fabulously sassy & stylish child now!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Please take Becca! She is a delightful but shy 5 (turning 6 on 3/1) who loves to tumble, cheer, and hang out! She will dance and sing at sail away, and if you need a DIVA - she is your gal!!

Seriously - I will buy guys a drink if you can get her out of her shell for the cruise!

Sue

Hi! We were on a waitlist for a pre-cruise hotel package but just decided on booking it ourselves. A few pages back is a spreadsheet of where everyone is staying. It was significantly cheaper to book the flights and hotels ourselves, although at first glance the Disney air price seemed reasonable. However, we wanted some choice in flight times without extra fees and worried about multiple stop-overs. We also worried about booking seats in advance for the 6 of us when we knew that we wouldn't get our flight info from Disney until 30 days prior to the cruise. I can't let go of that much control!

Welcome aboard! Be sure to register on the website for rollcall, FE, secret Mickey, Lanyard and I am not evey sure what else now!

My DH (Buckeye Goofy)is from Columbus area! Small world!

We are on a non stop one way from Atlanta for about $600. We leave at 5pm Wednesday, arrive 9am Thursday. We used tripadvisor.com to watch fares.

Who hasn't booked airfare yet? This so not me, I normally book the day the schedule opens, but this trip, I am so not sure.

I did a lot research last year doing test flights for September '09. And saw flights at about $550, with one stop.

Today was a vacation day for me, we have to use up our days by April 30th. So I did some searching and found;
(JFK-BCN 09/16/10);

Aer Lingus for $591.00, one stop via Dublin, booked direct with the airline. (website showing sale fares up to June 15, a sign to wait?)

Air France for 562.00, no stops, booked on airfare.com (?) The same flight is over 2000.00 on Kayak, Air France and Travelocity. I believe this is actually a Delta code share flight. I haven't ever book via any site other then direct with an Airline, so this kind of worries me, just by virtue of the unknown.

I am thinking that sometime in the next 30 days I will book, fingers crossed. Perhaps I should check in with the campus TA and see what they can do.

Thanks a lot - I appreciate it. It's been quite a day, after quite a week. I think though, that life can just calm down a whole heck of a lot. Let's make it so!

Trains are way....to pricey!! At least $500+ each.

However, I did see a flight on Lufthansa for $162 each which looks really good.

Noel, you need new countdown timers!! Your two are going the other way!!
