Hi everyone,

What a way to start my week. I nearly kill myself getting to work only to be "Let Go" because of budget cuts. so to work at 9am home by 11:30am. I am so shocked I cannot even think. My co-worker Awilda couldn't even speak!! I did post on Facebook that I was let go, but I will not go into much detail there.

This came out of left field because I really thought my job was secure with all of the things I do. I even asked the director who was gonna do it because she sure can't think Awilda is going to do that plus all of her work. It is very time consuming and very exact. Her words were, "we will spread it out over other people. That will be interesting since no one likes doing my job. Their comments are you are doing just fine. You keep doing it just like you do it now. I dealt with so many parents about their accounts and do a weekly electronic fund transfer and I just cannot wait to see who screws things up. I hope they lose a few parents because of this that is how mad I am right now.

But I am not giving up this cruise!!!!

So sorry to hear this Terry .... there seem to be a lot of job losses about at the moment. Hope you find something soon which suits and hope you are still able to cruise with us

Looks like our neighborhood across the river. What sub-division do you live in in Herndon. I worked out of the Herndon
office for Virginia Power for 25 years before transferring to the Alexandria office in 2007.
I know Herndon well.

We live in the Oak Hill area between Herndon and Chantilly.

I didn't catch that you are in Herndon before now. DH (Mike) is going to be staying in Herndon for a couple of days in July when he visits Washington DC before going down to work at the Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill. He says he's pretty sure the weather will be a little warmer by then!!!

:cutie:

Yes, I'm sure it will be much warmer and we'll all be wishing for snow come July!

Im really sorry, that sucks, what a shock for you.

Thank you to all who expressed their understanding and/or offered virtual hugs in regard to the first anniversary of dad’s passing. It’s so helpful to hear from others who can relate in one way or another and remind you that what you’re going through is normal. I did much better on Friday, the anniversary itself, than I did the day before. I understand why and it makes sense to me now. I just wasn’t expecting it to hit me as it did/when it did.

Well I spent the weekend with the stomach/intestinal flu. I started feeling queezy Friday afternoon, and it only got worse from that point. Doing MUCH better today! So let me turn my chat to the good stuff!

The Pre-Cruise Hotel/Apartment Roll Call List has been updated on Post #4! Check it out for accuracy, and if you are not on the list but would like to be, just PM me.

I love seeing Sarah’s weekly countdown! I cannot believe that we’re quickly approaching the “twenties” countdown!

SNOW! I am so jealous of those of you who got so much snow! I was disappointed we only got 15” here at grandmother’s. I heard that back home (Columbus), there was more. The big issue here was drifting. The condo directly in front of my grandmother’s patio had snow blown up to the top of the neighbor’s windows. You can see from the picture below of my car that wind indeed was a-blowing! I took this picture of Sandy, grandma’s dog, today as well, that shows some of the depth. That's NOTHING like the amazing photos I've seen here though!

Tour Option While in Barcelona: In some of my waking hours this weekend, I was checking out the trains to see how to get from Barcelona to Montserrat on my own. Then I ran across a semi-independent tour that picks you up at Placa de Catalunya at 8:30 am, which is a 6 minute (.5km) walk from Praktik Rambla. It goes to the Torres Winery then Montserrat, including the Benedictine Monastery where you can see the boys choir perform every day at 1:00 pm. Finally, the bus will take you to Sitges and its beaches. You have independent time at all locations so you can choose what you may want to explore. You’ll return to Barcelona at 6:30 pm.

So if you have more than a day in Spain, this may be an option you want to explore. I’m 90% certain this will be my game plan. I’ll arrive in Barcelona Thursday morning, take the double-decker city tour that you can hop on/off at 44 locations, then on Friday, I’ll get up and do this tour. I think it would be nice to be able to see more of Spain than just the city life of Barcelona, so this seems like a good plan to me! I’m pretty settled in the idea that I want to go to Montserrat and Sitges, so I will still look into the train options to go on my own, but I’m liking the semi-guided tour bus offering

Price:
Kids 8 and Under are Free
Approximately $94 USD/ £60 GBP

Inclusions:
  • Admission to "Mar i Cel" Museum in Sitges
  • Aromes de Montserrat (liquor) tasting in Montserrat
  • Rack railway ticket to the top of Montserrat mountain
  • Admission to the Audiovisual space "Montserrat portes endins"

Hi…Is anyone else planning Parasailing at CC? I have always wanted to do it, and DH gave it me as one of my Christmas presents! …. We have a new Cairn puppy dog (well, new in that she is 14 weeks old). We have called her MAGIC :cloud9: but she is usually called Madge for short ….

That’s so sweet of your DH to give you such an exciting Christmas gift to look forward to using!! I’ve been wanting to parasail as well, and I have had it on my wishlist for the next time I was at Castaway Cay. I’m not sure if I want to do it this time though, because we’re at the island for such a small amount of time (5 hours) and besides eating lunch at the adult beach, there are other things I want to accomplish moreso than this wonderful-sounding experience. I did put it in my “Saves” on DCL’s site though….we’ll see about it as we get closer.

Congrats on your new addition! :dog: I bet you’re having a splendid time bonding with her!

Throttle was the starting point that came to mind:rolleyes1 If Rylea was actually affected by it things may have been different. But this dog doesn't let anything stop her. She'll chew/eat pop cans, razor blades, dry wall screws, metal framing studs, lead weights, raw chicken breasts off the counter, plastic bottles, steak knives, and so on. She has liking for metal. :sad2: Chewed her way through a wooden baby gate and bent the bars on a metal kennel to escape. Won't eat clothes, shoes, or most other things. She has had parvo and blown out her knee then reinjured the knee. But through it all she is like the "little engine that could" and won't let anything stop her from playing or getting to were she wants to go.

In it all she is a good dog and very friendly.

Jon

I’m exhausted from reading all about her! She’s a fearless girl!

So 32 was the magic number yesterday. 32 weeks until our cruise. And 32 inches of snow officially recorded in our local area yesterday!

WHOA! Thank God you still have power after that much snow! Was there any movement in civilization today? I have to admit that I would have loved to see 20"-24" or so, but 32 inches! That's a LOT!

Just got back this morning from the Magic!!! It was a wonderful week and very relaxing.….

I’m so happy you all had a great cruise! Welcome home! It won’t see like no time before you’re back on the ship now!

Terry, I am *SO* sorry that you lost your job and that you join others like myself and Amy in the virtual unemployment line. I know there are others here in the same boat as well. That's exactly where we'll be in 32 weeks, too. In the SAME BOAT! I'm not giving up yet, and it sounds like you have a determination to not give up either!

From these figures I worked out that the tipping for our 14 night cruise should be:

Stateroom host : $ 56 per person
Server : $ 56 per person
Assistant Server : $ 42 per person
Head Server : $ 14 per person

Which for us (2 people) works out as $336 in tips for the cruise

Palo I would probably tip an extra $10 if the service were wonderful and for room service $2 or $3 depending on what we were ordering. For bar drinks delivered to us by a server we would generally tip $1.

Thank you for figuring that out! At least it's a good way to judge about how much we'll need to tip! :)

I'm also going to a Super Bowl party and not a huge fan of the game. (Although I will be cheering for the Saints b/c I love a good underdog story.) I'll "watch" the game but will be mostly socializing with friends. :hyper2: The die hard fans are in front of the tv and I'm way in the back so I don't bug them.

Buffalo chicken dip sounds yummy. I made a carrot cake last night.

Happy Super Bowl everyone! party:

That's funny that you made carrot cake - my DH was so hungry for carrot cake on the drive home that we stopped and picked some up! It's too bad I can't send you virtual buffalo chicken dip because we have a lot left over!

I am so sorry to hear about you losing your job. It's not fun at all. When I was laid off (basically for the same reason, the non-profit where I worked lost state funding) I was shocked. I thought I had job security because I was the only full time staff member who worked on Saturdays. My best advice is to apply for unemployment as soon as you can. I'm sending you lots of virtual hugs!:hug::hug:

Kimberly, your grandmother's dog is SOOOOOO cute! I love the jacket! Sorry you were sick...that really stinks! :(

That sounds neat! I may have to look into it for our family as well. Love the kids free part!

We lost power twice on saturday - For one hour in the early morning (5:30am -6:30am) then again that evening (8:30-10:30pm) but thankfully it came back on. Some people and areas are out still and will likely be out of power all week since there's another storm coming tomorrow!

Kimberly, get well soon, dog is cute, love the jacket, hope its a girly

:lmao: Yep! It's a girl! Her name is Sandy, and she's a toy poodle! She's so meek and sweet, which is surprising as she was a rescued dog from an abusive breeder. When she was found, they didn't think she would live even days. The vet told grandma that it will only be her TLC that could get her through, and 7 years later, she's a happy girl! Poor thing doesn't even know how to play toys though. We've tried, and my mom's Bichon Frise has tried to teach her, but she just doesn't care for it. All she ever asks for is a belly rub! :rotfl2: She's very cute and lovey!

Wow Terry - that is quite a Monday morning... Best of luck navigating the job market. What line of work are you in?

I worked for a Non-Profit organization. We have about 66 programs for all ages. A senior center, over 55 group, sports for ages 3 to adult, Before and After School care, summer camps and other activities.

I was the operator, did the registration and billing and attendance for the B/A School and summer camp programs, helped out at the front desk when my co-worker was at lunch or on vacation. Encouraged parents to sign up for online billing or Electric fund transfer.

My BFF Stephanie (Steffy on the DIS) was my direct boss but it was the Director who did the letting go. Stephanie is just beside herself about this.

So far the five people who have been doing my job today have done nothing but complain!!! That makes me happy. There was another person who was hired in the last year and she is really the one who should have been let go. Every single week she has made mistake after mistake, not followed up on deadlines and all of the b/a school site people have complained but with no result. Every time I turned around she tried to do something to the EZ Care system that we use and I have to call support to get help in fixing the problem.

I already am working on my resume and have a call in to a day care center that uses the ez care system so I think I have a chance. If not, I will regroup and start fresh. BUT I will NOT go back to retail!!!!

Terri, that sucks large. I have to wonder if the newer person had some connection with the Director. Sounds like you are a detailed worker, who can solve problems while on the run, you will land on your feet very soon.

Actually, I don't think she really likes her. There was some office renovation done and this person was moved away from her office. it seems that no one takes into consideration that this person has personally screwed up almost every week. I think it was a way to get back to my BFF Stephanie who also works there.

It sounds just like my old job! There were plenty of people who had been there a lot less time than myself that didn't get let go. Plus there was one co-worker who made mistake after mistake but did he lose his job, no! He's still there! Even though it's been months since I was laid off, it still ticks me off!

I am so sorry to hear you lost your job. It often seems to me that the more competent an employee the more vulnerable they are to loosing their job. Too many times over the years, I have watched the most competent people loose their jobs while the ones who should be let go seem to never get fired. I guess this is reflective of why the American economy is loosing more and more ground every day.

A friend of ours said to my husband and I the other day "When I go to Asia and India, I feel like the British and other Europeans must have felt coming to America in the early 1900's. There is such an energy in the air there that is now lacking in this country".

Just my thoughts....

Welcome back Annette and Amanda! WOW!!! You two are so lucky to have gone on the Magic when it is so cold here in MI! BRRRR! We got to get together soon!:goodvibes

tinker1bell- sorry to hear about your job. It is so hard right now for alot of people...but I totally understand about the cruise! I wouldn't want to give it up either.

Well, we are supposed to get a foot of snow in the next two days...I really hope not though. I am too cold already!:guilty: We are really trying to move back to Florida before summer, so that sort of hinders me buying the airfare for the cruise. Not sure if we are flying out of Michigan or Florida! LOL!!!! I am crossing my fingers for FL, we really miss it! Kinda get spoiled living by the mouse!:cloud9:

Nothing like look at the weather for Wednesday and all it say is blizzard. We are looking at 14 to 20 inches of snow and 60 mph wind gusts for the next two days. This is on top of the 16 inches of snow we had on Saturday

Looks like we're going to get hit! I'm on call to the Disney Store tomorrow and I'm working Wednesday night! :scared1: I'm a little nervous about driving in 16 inches of snow back down to Quakertown where we live! Should be interesting! :)
