I am on there with you Lynne about the hotel and no more camping. Some how my daughter convinced me to go with her and DH.
Well the man survives death 6 to 8 times a day but can't even go camping for 24 hours without having to get 9 stitches. Here is how he puts it:
Thank you all for the good wishes.
I am quickly on the mend, Turns out, we went camping in the mountains of SLC and had a great night about 11 am the next morning, Kenzie and I went for a walk around the site, she took her Razor scooter, and I walked alongside, we came to a section that was a little down hill and before going there, I made sure kenzie knew how to use the brakes, and that they were working good.
well we go down the street, and kenzie just starts haulin *** down this not very steep hill, Im running full speed to keep up with her yelling brakes! brakes! brakes!, which she did not use at all!.
all of a sudden she starts to wobble and I can tell she's about to eat it so I reached out and grabbed her shoulder just as she starts to go down,
down we both tumble at full running speed as I tried to roll and take the brunt of the hit. we skid to a stop and she's yelling owie , owie owie.
I get up totally freaked out and start checking her over, she had a little scratch on the chin and that's all I could see.
As im looking her over to make sure she's ok, she said to me,
"daddy, you're bleeding!" and points at my lower leg, which has about a 1 inch c shaped gash with skin hanging off of it, Funny, I hadn't even noticed, or felt it, in my rush to make sure she was ok.
so as blood is running down my leg, I very calmly tell her, Kenzie, Daddy needs a doctor, and we start hobbling down the 300 or so yards back to the campsite.
once we get there , I head straight for the first aid kit and tell kenzie.
"tell mom to come here please"
turns out she dove full speed into the tent yelling, "mommy mommy, daddy's hurt and he's gonna die!" (it did look kinda gnarly)
as im putting on a bandage and getting the car ready for the trip down the mountain, Karen comes running up to see whats going on, I opened the bandage to show her and she turned an all together, different kinda white.
"mind if you drive?" is all I could get out.
She did a heck of a good job getting us all safely, but quickly down the mountain and into the ER. I did have to tell her to slow down a couple of times as our Isuzu Rodeo has the Handling capabilities of the titanic.
I remember asking her to please not wreck the car on the way to the ER.
When we finally got there, Karen did an awesome job of checking me in while I tried to calm Kenzie down, she was pretty spooked, but a little trooper.
2 hours later I was the proud owner of the first 9 stitches IN MY LIFE.
so naturally, my next thought was, "who's hungry?".. It was after all, well past lunchtime.
There was a Red Lobster right down the street and I got to choose it!
as we were all there looking at the menu trying to calm down from our very exiting day it came to me in a flash, and I promptly announced.
"new family tradition! any day you get stitches, you get to order a whole lobster dinner!."
and there you have the lobster after stitches pictures.
I am feeling better and my 2 girls are taking really good care of me.
Kenzie even got one of grandpa's canes so I could walk easier.
At the moment I am walking a little like my father in law.
so, that's the jist of it, the things we do for our kids.
At the end of the day, I thanked the good lord above for keeping my kid safe and realized I would do it all again in a heartbeat if it meant keeping her safe.
Im sure you would do the same.
goodnite.
Alex
We only got to stay one night at the campground. After getting him home and settled, taking DD to my mom's house, sitting in on a girl scout meeting that i wasn't going to because of camping, then going back up Big Cottonwood Canyon to the spruces campground by myself to break the down the campsite and drive home. I got home at 9pm EXHAUSTED!! Emotional, mental and physically...
DH did return to work today minus the cane. he is doing fine and the wound check appointment went well. now we go back around the 24th to get the stitches removed. I wasn't happy about going in the first place and see what happens.....
We are home till next week. DD and I are going to California to Knott's Berry Farm. DD's best friend wants to go there for her birthday instead of DL. Go figure... Also my godson is going to get baptized on the 22nd.
OK Just realized that I am blabbing. I do deeply apologize. I will start now! Have a good evening! Karen
