howdy everyone,

just got back from a great weeks vacation up in the mountains here in Oregon. We rode our quads there with a few friends and relatives. Only 3 crashes which was pretty good average for that many people:thumbsup2

No I didnt crash but DH did. He hit a hidden stump, lots of bruises and bloody nose, 3 loose teeth but ok other than being sore.

Weather was just so-so but not too cold or too hot with a few sprinkles.
Lots of chipmunks and lots of deer running around including coming into camp until my dog Minnie chased them away.

Now to clean everything and get back to normal.
Next weekend we are headed to the coast for my birthday, so i hope the weather is a bit better then.
Rainy today around here.

Kathy

Ouch! Hope he's feeling a bit better.

He was moving like a 90 year old man this morning but says he would do it again because he had so much fun.:lmao:

We are planning our first trip to Disneyland for the end of September or around there. We have always been at WDW in Florida.
If Greg likes it enough maybe I can get him to do the March meet:thumbsup2

For those who have been before. Of the 3 Disney hotels which do you recommend? I know 2 are walking distance and one is on property and the monorail goes to it.

Any tips about the park itself? How long would you allow to see DL and California Adventure?

What is a must see and what do you think is a waist of time?

Is it along ride from the LA airport? Just tryin to figure out the timing aspect of when we want to arrive.

Thanks for the tips,

Kathy

All of the DL hotels are within walking distance. The Grand Californian is the closest as it actually has it's own entrance to California Adventure. The monorail does not go to any of the hotels. Unlike WDW, it is not a means of transportation, it is more of an attraction. The 2 stops are Tomorrowland and Downtown Disney. The Downtown Disney stop will get you closer to the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier hotel, but it is not right there at the hotels. Of the 3, my favorite is the Disneyland Hotel. I think this one has more Disney ambiance than the others. Most of the rooms are pretty big. And the Neverland Pool is the best. If your heart is set on staying onsite, then by all means pick one of the Disney hotels. But just so you know, staying onsite is not as much of a necessity at DL like it is at WDW. There are several offsite hotels that are actually a shorter walk than the DL Hotel or Paradise Pier. And certainly the cost is less. I've stayed at many of the offsite hotels as well as all the onsite ones and can recommend some if you want.

For a first timer, a minimum of 3 days would be needed, with 4 or 5 being ideal. Can't think of anything Disney that would be waste of time . Even the attractions that are at WDW are slightly different at DL. Some are better at DL and some are better at WDW, but they all have their own uniqueness. The only things I could think of skipping would be the 3D movies (Bug's Life, Muppets, etc). The queues are different but once inside, the movies are the same.

There is a great thread on the DL board. It's DL Guide for WDW veterans. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599 He's very thorough in recommending hotels, park strategy, ride comparisons, show comparisons, etc.

From LAX, it's probably an hour drive give or take depending on traffic. Orange County (SNA) and Long Beach (LGB) are actually closer (20-30 drive). And Ontario (ONT) is also an option, about the same drive at LAX. I usually pick based on a combination of price and flight times. My favorite is LGB though. It's so small that you can get off the plane, get your luggage and be in your rental car in 15 minutes. Plus that's where Jetblue flies into.

You have been removed and sent to the locker ...arrrrr LOL

Happy Fathers Day to everyone , Been extremely Busy with Football here in Vegas and actualy just got back last night from a 3 day run at Disneyland , Had a good time but wasnt the same without our partners in crime Monica(Got2travel) and her son Trevoy ...

pirate:

So sad I missed this trip. But to make up for it Tia Dalma represented at the Nor Cal Pirate Festival (pictures on Facebook).

And without a doubt, we'll be there in March.

I've actually only been there once. We went mid-June about 5 years ago. We flew in to LAX on a Tuesday. We checked into the GC and were in CA by afternoon. It wasn't really crowded and we pretty much covered everything we wanted to that afternoon and evening (FYI they had just opened TT). The next full day we spent in the MK. We left the next morning (after some time at DTD) to drive to Vegas. I thought it was kind of strange that there didn't seem to be too many crowds but we were happy. I think you should alot at least 3 days though so you can visit leisurely. I found that the GC reminded me of WL. It was pricier(!) than the other two but it was kind of cool that our room faced the CA park and had a great view!!

Thankyou both for your answers.
I think we really want to stay on property, just for the theme that Disney has. It keeps the magic alive after you leave the park. Probably the Disneyland Hotel but not sure yet.

I was there when I was 14 but back then there was one hotel and the Monorail went to it and one stop in the park. I am surprized it doesnt go there any more.
After all its only been 10, no 20, no 30, no 40 ,well lets just say its been many years:lmao:

Thanks again, I will pass on the info to Greg when he gets home. All their hotels have specials through the end of September so the prices arnt too bad for just us. If you book 3 days, get 2 free is one of the deals.

Are there any other attractions in the area to see if we have an extra day or two?

Kathy

The monorail did used to go to the Disneyland Hotel. They tore that tower down when they built Downtown Disney.

We stayed at the DH last August before the Repo and it wasn't far to walk to the entrances, perhaps 15-20 mins. The monorail station is closer, but you then have to wait.

Can I ask: when will our webpage be updated with the new roll call? I emailed our info a few weeks back (or so it seems) and we are still missing from the roll call on the page. It will make it seem more real if I can see our name in print on our own cruise web page.

Good morning everyone,

We finally have a nice sunny day today. Headed for 80:goodvibes

Its about time we got some nice summer weather.

Hope everyone is having a nice day today.

Thanks for all the help with my questions about DL. I have one more question.

I want to do the Inidana Jones ride. But the video of it looks really rough. I know the vehicles and track are the same as the ones at WDW for the Dino ride at AK.
For those who have done both rides, is the bouncyness about the same or is one rougher than the other?

For anyone who has only done the Indiana Jones ride, how do you gauge the roughness. I dont have a bad back or anything, I just dont like a real rough ride.

Thanks,
Kathy

I believe our wonderful cruise web page guru has been on vacation (cruise and WDW) so it may take her a bit to update to present.

Indiana Jones is ten times (hundred times?) better than Dinosaur. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure if the ride is smoother or if the whole thing is just more enjoyable that I don't notice the jerking as much. Dinosaur is darker and louder and just not any fun, in my opinion. But I never pass up a ride on Indy!

Thats what I was hoping for. The clip I saw really looked like fun.
Thanks,

Yes, our guru is on vacation at WDW so it will be a while and then she might be moving East - not sure of the dates yet so you might not see your name for a while, but she is wonderful - hang in there!

Yes, Dinosaur is a rough ride and if you can tackle that, you can handle Indy. I hope you have a great time. It was 104 at downtown Disney yesterday and it was sooo hot. Still had fun!:thumbsup2

Hope all is well with everyone.

I believe our guru is coming home tomorrow at least according to her FB. I hope she and her family had a great trip!

Does anybody on here live in either Elizabethtown, KY, St. Louis, MO or Springfield, IL or anywhere around there? My family is going there on vacation next week. I'm excited for vacation, but I'm going to miss my Dave... :( When I get home, wedding planning is going to go into high gear. In July we have to meet with the reception site, the minister and I'm going to meet with the florist (I'm figuring Dave won't want to pick out flowers! LOL!) so it's going to be busy!

Hope everything is going well for everyone.

Our wedding plans are in high-ish gear too. I am currently folding hundreds of silver origami cranes for decorations in lieu of flowers at each table. We're trying to be both budget- and eco-conscious. We are meeting with a florist on Saturday, and with a caterer on Tuesday. We have most of the planning complete, and we hired a wedding planner.

Good luck to us both!

And thanks for the info about the moderator and posting the roll call. Is that the same for our website not on the Dis?
