Thank you to our cruise friends for thoughts and prayers. My step dad's health is still failing. Nursing staff are giving him less than two weeks. Again, thank you.

Now to cheer things up a little, how about the Monday question. Which this week is Tuesdays question, but next week we can make it Sundays question then it would balance everything out to Monday.:lmao:

In the unlikely event that we get stranded on a uncharted island, which disney character would you want to be stranded with?

I'll go with Goofy, just because the whole experience would be more light hearted then.

Got to be Genie.

:lovestruc now DM is getting worried about a hurricane, she is so cute.

Pj
Assure her we will look after you no matter what is thrown at us. :grouphug:
Mums have to worry. :lovestruc

Which area did you choose for an apartment?(Sorry Angie, just fancy the extra room and a washing machine!!!) I am looking at changing to one, but there are so many areas of Barcelona to choose from.

Geezers - I don't think there is an official age - possibly over 55 ??????? For those slightly younger and who feel left out(:lmao:) we have the GIT"s, Geezers In Training!! You can help us Geezers get to where we are wanting to get to!!!:rotfl:

So, officially it is the Old Geezers and GITs group!!:rotfl2: Meet for warm milk and cookies in Cove Cafe!!

No worry, Marilyn. The price is so good and we just need a place to sleep for a couple of nights.

I cannot wait for the cookies at Cove Cafe! Old Geezers and GITs are such fun!!

Yea! Looking forward to it! (Wish I had a Texas emoticon!)
LOL me too......

I think they will do the tours from the pick up at the coach station or from the cruise terminal. Last time we over nighted in Barcelona so it made sense having the tours available. Not 100% sure how it will work this time. Have we got any Suite or Platinum people that can let us know the times etc.
Some people can see the times/etc. already? OMG already? ahhhhhhh
:scared1: That's BIP panicking. LOL (j/k)

Thanks for the info about the tours. Cool! :)

Hi, I don't know where in Texas you are located, but I had good luck getting one way airfare with Lufthansa out of Houston. You have to connect in Frankfurt. But since the flight is all Lufthansa, you don't have to deal with picking up your bags or worry about intra-European baggage fees.

One way from Houston is a little less than $700. They also have a one way from DFW. It is $700. Both of those fares on based on leaving the USA on Thursday and arriving BCN on Friday about 3pm.

I was able to get one way fare back from MCO to IAH for $130. I am sure you could do better than that, but DH prefers Continental and it the long run we saved on baggage fees because we will get two free bags each due to his FF status.

So total airfare was $830. DCL was going to charge us $1014. Their total did include all transfers, but I know I can do those for less that the $184 pp difference in cost!

We have never flown Lufthansa, but they are part of the Star Alliance of airlines. To get those prices, you have to book online on the Lufthansa website. They don't show up when you look at Travelocity etc.

Good luck with whatever you decide! :thumbsup2
We're way WAY closer to DFW than Houston. Right now our flights thru Disney are $975 except our youngest's is $819. No clue why. LOL
(she's not a baby- she'll be 10 on the cruise. Probably just the way they divided up the cost? IDK)
So far out of DFW I haven't found any flights to Barcelona (one way or round trip) and then from Orlando to DFW anywhere NEAR that price total.
But I am going to have to pay the deviation fee now that we're coming in earlier (was on waiting list for Disney hotel but we've given up on that plus they were way more expensive- for one night than the 3 nights in the apt we booked on our own!) and pay for our own transportation..... so if we could find flight on our own cheaper- we'd go with that. But going out of Houston is pretty far for us....
Thanks for all the info though! I really appreciate it!

Oh and we got confirmation about the apt. we're supposed to contact our "contact" person about the apt 3 days before we arrive and again once we arrive. Guess I better figure out how to make international calls. I'm assuming it's 34 before the 10 digit number they gave us? (since the contact number for barcelonapoint.com, where I booked this, has 34 + 10 digit number?)
yes, I am 40yrs old and have never called internationally. LOL

But we got the booking! :)
It's only 467 euros for 3 nights... Gran Via Montjuich (that's how they spell it) apt- 4 bedrooms and sleeps 9- we'll have plenty of room.... before being more cramped in our staterooms on the cruise. HAHA

BIP, did you see that the Lufthansa fare out of DFW one way is $700? (have to book online on the US website for Lufthansa). I guess that info was buried in my post. Sorry.

Also, right now on travelocity they have one way fare from MCO to DFW for $97 ($118 with taxes). Those are one stop, not non-stop, but it gives you an idea for when Southwest's window opens up (gotta love the free luggage there).

Anyway, that is a total of $818 a person. Cheaper than DCL. Check it out, you may not like stopping in Frankfurt... YMMV.

If you are going to use the transfers included in the DCL airfare, you would want to figure that in the price of booking it yourself.

Definitely Captain Jack Sparrow ..... he would definitely know where there was some rum hidden and once we decided to get off the island ...... sea turtles mate !!!!!

pirate:pirate:pirate:pirate:

Of course I could find the rum ...Hellllllloooooo Im Captain Jack Sparrow

and rope those little buggers with rope made from hair from my back I would ...

If you are going to use the transfers included in the DCL airfare, you would want to figure that in the price of booking it yourself.

I saw the one way about $700- but I did NOT know about the one way MCO to DFW for $97. The cheapest we've ever been able to fly MCO to DFW was over $200 each! (usually $350 or more for roundtrip. ugh it stinks!) So I was thinking $700 plus $200+ didn't make it cheaper than Disney air- yanno? I'll look into that.

But what transfers are included in the DCL airfare? I thought it only included transfers if you booked the hotel with DCL- which is why we put ourselves on the waitlist for that (for like a year now, wait over a year LOL) but now we're booked on our own for cheaper anyway.... so I thought that meant there were no transfers included? I'm confused now........

Many European airlines have a lower rate for kids under 12--probably why your DD is less.
Did you see the flight I found on opodo.com? That was out of DFW. You do not have to be a Brit to book there (unless is has changed recently) it is not like the Disney Paris site--we booked on that site online for our last trip to the US.

Hmm.. I just always thought that the transfers were packaged into the airfare price. :confused3 They included transfer from BCN to hotel, hotel to port, PC to MCO. I think I remember that because if you book airfare you don't have to book transfers. I tried to check on the DCL website, but it appears to be on vacation itself.:rotfl: I guess the additional transfer you need if you book a hotel with DCL (and don't come in the day of the cruise) is included in the hotel price.

BTW, I checked Lufthansa's website and they do have a price for 11 and under. One way child price is $573 inc. taxes.

But as I said before, the times may not work for your family...

Hi All,

Ending my lurker status and would like to join your thread. We are two friends from California and we arrive on September 14. I'm so excited and can't wait for September!!!

We booked our flight (one-way from San Francisco to Barcelona) for about $700/each through airfare.com. I looked for months on several travel/airline websites and airfare.com was consistently cheaper. And, the fare is much less for those of you who are closer to the East Coast. (i.e. $564 incl. tax with one layover on British Airways from MCO.) The only scary thing is that the fare is non-refundable. You can get travel insurance though. I was a little nervous when I booked it b/c the fares are soooo much cheaper than any other websites and I wondered if there was a catch. But I received confirmation email rightaway and about one week after booking I went directly to the airline's website (American Airlines) and chose my seat for both legs with no problems. (I have a layover in New York.)

Terapin - We booked the Praktik at $595 for 4 nights in a double.

I've been a lurker on disboards for a while, but finally took the plunge and signed on to this thread. DH and I are both geezers. We will be arriving in BCN a week before (Thursday 9/9) the cruise to see the city. I've booked a room at the Pratik Ramblas, so it looks like we will be meeting a lot of fellow cruisers. When we bought the transportation package we were told that if we make our way down to Le Meridien the morning of the cruise, we could use Disney transport to get to the ship. Hope to meet some of you Friday before the cruise.
:cheer2:

I think we have jumped ship (ha ha) to the Praktik Rambla - it saves our group over 300 euros for our two nights - which is tons! While I like a good hotel, for two nights we can surely stay at something basic. As DH says, after that we get to get on the boat! I have reservations for both hotels now, I have to make up my mind!

:thanks: Thanks for the info re: the Praktik!!!!! I was booked at the Continental Palacete but the Praktik will be about 1/3 less and is still close to everything so I'm now booked at the Praktik. I can use the extra money for all of my KonK Koolers on the ship. :sail:

Hi Kermit and welcome. You seems to have fingured out signatures pretty quickly:thumbsup2

Thanks! Happy to be onboard. pirate:

Re: my signatures -I've done the signatures for other cruises so I'm familiar with them. I love to watch the ship get closer to the sailing date. Makes me sooo happy.

I don't know. I'm kinda confused on the transfers.
I too thought it was included in the airfare... but then I was told the transfers can't be done unless it's a "pkg" with the hotel also. :confused3
Would make sense if it is included in the hotel price though- considering booking the hotel with DCl was way more expensive for one night, than booking 3 nights on our own. LOL So yeah, maybe the transfers are included in the "pkg" when you book air and hotel with them? I dunno....

I know when we originally booked the Baltic b2b with the WBTA.... the flight part was $1390 each PLUS the cost of the hotel..... then when we cancelled the Baltic and changed to only the WBTA- the flight was $975 each (and hotel not available so we got on the waiting list for that.) I don't know if the difference in the flight cost was the difference in the dates we'd be flying or what.... but it was a considerable difference! So maybe he airfare we have now for just the WBTA is less because it's not "including transfers" since we have no hotel booked with them?

I think the transfers basically means from airport to "somewhere related to Disney"- meaning if we kept our flight coming in on the 18th- they'd take us to the port. If we had a hotel booked thru them- they'd take us to that hotel and then to the port on the 18th. But they won't take you just anywhere...... so they won't take us to our "booked on our own" accomodations- nor take us from there to the port. KWIM? I'm not sure if we're still paying for it in our airfare cost, or not, though.

Welcome aboard!! :)

Thanks Mrs. Mork and Krista!!! Mrs. Mork - looks like we were both on the WB PC 2008 cruise. I love the repositioning cruises - more bang for my buck. I may even book the Los Angeles-Vancouver repo cruise in 4/11. The prices for this cruise are great.

Yes! There are several on this cruise that were on the 2008 PC. PJ and Marilyn that I can think of right now. What an amazing trip that was! :cloud9:

Did you participate in any DIS gatherings?

I don't know. I'm kinda confused on the transfers.
I too thought it was included in the airfare... but then I was told the transfers can't be done unless it's a "pkg" with the hotel also. :confused3

II think the transfers basically means from airport to "somewhere related to Disney"- meaning if we kept our flight coming in on the 18th- they'd take us to the port. I'm not sure if we're still paying for it in our airfare cost, or not, though.

So near as I can tell...

Scenario 1-- Book DCL airfare only (no hotel). Included in airfare cost is "complementary ground transfers and baggage handling" according to the DCL website. Transfers included are between BCN and port in BCN and between PC and MCO. If you aren't going to those places (ie your are going to your own hotel), you lose the transfer in question. Looks like you might be able to use the transfer in FL though, if you are going to MCO. That should be verified before counting on it tho:headache:

Scenario 2-- Book DCL airfare and hotel thru DCL. Get all three transfers included in the quoted price. My guess is that the difference between the two transfer cost and the three transfer cost is included in the price of the hotel that DCL charges.

We were told by our travel agents that when we dropped DCL airfare, the only transfers we could get would be between the airport and the port and between PC and MCO. Cost was $95 pp. However, when I look at the DCL website it looks like the transfers are $65 pp.

Gosh, this seems complicated. :confused3 Hopefully, if I am wrong here someone will correct this!
