Sept 16 2012 - WONDERing who's on the Calif Coastal with me?!

Does anyone know if there is a specific "name" for the cruise we are on? It's for a scrapbook thing Im making as well as for the FE's.
Thanks

Awesome. Can't believe we are less than 2 weeks out! So excited that we got our rooms assigned!

My guys are 10 & 12 -- looking forward to meeting you all!

There are several places that offer the countdown tickers, but an easy option is the one through this website - http://www.distickers.com/ticker/main.php
Just look in the blue bar above and it says "Tickers". Create the ticker then copy and paste it into your signature.

:tinker:

We are working on finishing up our FE's for the cruise and cant wait to meet up with everyone. My DS is curious if there are any boys around his age in this group. He's 12.

Can anyone tell me how to get the countdown ticker?

After spending four days at Disneyland this week and completing the Disneyland Half Marathon yesterday I am ready to do a little relaxing on this cruise before I head to WDW for the Tower of Terror 10-miler race.

I'm making our FE to hang and wonder if there were any rules size. Not sure about the space it will be hanging.

Should our FE have a pocket for each person in the cabin or can it be one pocket for the whole family?

To answer both of your FE questions, one pocket per person in the cabin is typical. It’s good to put names on each pocket so any personalized or age/gender specific gifts get into the correct pockets.

According to a DISthread on the subject, FE dimensions for the Magic/Wonder are max 11" wide by 48" long. If you plan to us it on the Dream, you might what to limit the width to 9” wide. There are some considerations of pocket width and the dowel length for hanging. Here’s a DISthread that should help. (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2372269).

Here’s a link to nice FE from an FE Thread. You can see how it hangs on the Magic/Wonder. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=42542627&postcount=1607

Just checked and got my VGT assigned! I guess it could still change, but I'm so excited! Now I just need to figure out where it is... =)

Do the VGT room assignments really change? We just got ours too so Im curious if it might?

You will see a wide variety of FE hangers and I think that makes it really fun!

Recently I see more going in the direction of having a pocket per person, but many do not. Our FE is a couple of years old and just has 2 pockets -- no names. We usually leave a bag of goodies for the cabin rather than gifts for each person so we just put our things in the top pocket regardless.

Make or get something that is fun for your family. It doesn't have to be too big because every time you go back to your cabin you will want to collect your surprises so there will plenty of space for the next round of fun!

Another day closer to our cruise which cannot come fast enough for me.

Just curious on how much everyone packs for a cruise like this. Being it is our first one I don't want to over pack and have too much stuff or not enough. Do people really bring 7 different outfits plus stuff for formal night? What is the dress code (or is there one) for daily on deck and just hanging out?

Hello. I am the thread starter on another cruise that I will be taking a month from this one and here's a link that I posted there that might help. Mind you, it is probably more information than you need, but it is great for the first-timer.

Cruise Tips and Planning Thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1264914

But a general answer is, I will bring several tops and mix and match outfits, plus formal wear. Hope this helps.

I am an extremely light packer and usually limit a 7 day cruise to a carry on bag and personal shoulder bag.

I am sure that some people do bring 7 different outfits plus other stuff for formal night, pirate night, etc., but it's really not necessary. The normal daily attire (no dress code) for hanging out on deck, going to the shows, movies, etc is cruise casual or whatever you feel comfortable in. In the dinning rooms for dinner they prefer that you wear pants and a dress or polo shirt unless you decide to dine at Topsiders Buffet and it's okay to wear shorts and tshirt. I have also seen people wear shorts and tshirts during dinner in the main restaurants heck I have done it as well. Finally you also have the option of doing laundry on the ship so you can consider that as well when you think about packing for your cruise.

I hope I covered everything for you but if I missed something I am sure others will jump in.

The typical saying is pack half as much as you think you will need and bring twice as much money!!! Most folks tend to over pack.

Hi everyone,

We reserved some months ago. This is our first Disney cruise. My wife and I have only ever been on Carnival (Honestly, I enjoy them greatly, but this will be a huge change of pace for how I normally cruise). We will also be going with my wife's sister and her family.

We have a 7 year old daughter who knows nothing about the trip. She is getting suspicious something is up because I think she noticed we are adding extra school work into her homework (to be ahead of the approved independent studies) and she swears she saw that her after school day care calendar has her off that week. We are not sure if we are just going to show up at the ship and board and surprise her that way, or if we should have Mickey or Goofy call her the morning of.

Anyhow, I had a question about the FEs you are talking about. It looks like basically a glorified name tag for the front of each room. Do a lot of people do this? Is it just a name announcement, or is there something special or a game with them or something? I am curious because I could see some issues with it. Is anyone here have any issue that a stranger can match parents names with a child's name? I know I sound paranoid, and I know 9999 times out of 10000 there is never an issue, but I am still a little concerned with something like that.

If anyone is at Karaoke, look for a big guy with a chin beard. That will be me! Wifey is short, so we stand out!

Everybody enjoy!

Matt

********* EDIT ******* OK, I see that FE's are used for some type of gift exchange. What is that all about?
