Here's the count from my list, which is up to date:

27 cabins: 52 adults, 13 children - 8 girls (8mos - 16yrs) & 5 boys (3 - 12yrs). (I think this is accurate. I had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, and Dennis kept talking to me while I was trying to count!)

Most of the adults are couples, but some are friends or relatives (e.g., Sarah & her mom). I'm probably going to do one gift per cabin, or one per adult for non-couples, and something for each of the kids.

Remember, the FE gifts don't have to be from Tiffany's (although I wouldn't object ;)). I think we all know we have different budgets and weight allowances for travel. The point of the FE is to just have fun - kind of like trick-or-treats on Halloween. I know one of my favorite FE gifts on our October cruise was a little bag of sweets from a family from England. (Love that Cadbury's!) They were little things that we can't get where we live, which made them very special to me. :lovestruc

Last year, we did the Fish Extenders on the Med. cruise. We were broken down into about 10 families per group. You only bought gifts for those in your group. Families were assigned to one group and a couple of weeks befor the cruise, you were given a list of just the people in your group. Are we buying for everyone or going to be broken down into groups?:rolleyes1

i think pat said its got up to approx 25 cabins so far, bearing in mind we're still over 5 months out, its going to get bigger!
i was wondering what would be the best way to do it. the best idea would probably be to split it into groups, given people's luggage allowance amongst other things. but then i was also wondering if it would be an option to do it like last year's WBTA candy swap, where it gets split into small groups, but people could opt into more than one group if they wanted to give/receive more gifts. what do you guys think?

Wow that seems like very small groups?

On the Dream Maiden Voyage in January the FE total was 84 cabins (173 adults, 48 Children) and we did every one - per person not per cabin! :faint: That was crazy, not to mention expensive! I don't suggest we do that many but it's nice getting lots of gifts in your FE rather than just a couple, especially on a longer cruise. Anyway just my opinion. :)

That is a great idea. :thumbsup2

Personally, smaller groups work for me....given, like you said, the option to be in more than one group. Last year, I went overboard (being the first time doing fish extenders) and used a small roll-on piece of luggage filled with just fish extender gifts. I believe now we were in groups of 9 families so it worked out we have a gift each night except one on the Med. cruise. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but looking back, I would scale back the cost considerably! I do realize we will have largers numbers as the cruise gets nearer.......I'll go with whatever you decided.........BUT breaking into groups of families works for me! :thumbsup2

I'm confused Deb. :lmao: So you had 10 cabins in your group, did you drop off gifts each day? Or just once throughout the whole cruise? :confused3

DH & I have tried on every cruise to see dolphins and whales and we have never seen one. Does anyone know when the best time to see them? I hope we will be able to see some on the tour.

I think if you have a look in the adult only pool at 3pm most days I think you'll have a good chance of seeing some whale action ;) :rotfl2: :scared1:

Just taking things easy now. Still dreaming about the cruise....at least that's free :rotfl:

I think i would prefer smaller groups for FE. Especially with luggage allowance and costs :thumbsup2

In our group, there were 9 families (cabins). Each family delivered their FE gifts one night during the week. The lady in charge of our FE made a roster of which night each family would deliver their FE's. So you got one gift/gifts each night from just one family.

Hope this explains it....sounds like I'm repeating myself! :) It was exciting to come come back late at night and see your gifts waiting for you!

On the WBTA we had around 20 cabins per group and it worked great. Obviously there would need to be more participants to be able to split, but as Karen says there is plenty of time yet. It seemed like we got loads of gifts too.

Now on the WBPC in January we didn't split into smaller groups, and there was something like 110 or more rooms!:scared1: That takes some delivering. Fortunately for me I had joined in a group gift(about 8 or so people) of a dry wipe board which we put on all the cruisers doors whether they were in the FE group or not. It meant only delivering a few gifts, and also that the costs was low.

A couple of questions please.

I would like to decorate my cabin door. I was wondering how I make the magnets and if I need a special computer program to do this?

Due to my daughter's special needs we usually do priority boarding. Is something like this available on DCL?

Hi Mel

When I make magnets I just print out the art work I want on regular paper, then I cover them in clear film ( the film you use to cover school books etc ) and then stick magnetic tape strips on the back. I know some people laminate their magnets and other people print out using magnetic paper.

Sorry I can't advise on the priority boarding .. have you checked out DCL website or you could send them an email.

i agree, ten sounds too small for me, but it seems ok for others. think it might be good to be able to join multiple groups then.....

110 rooms! wow that'd take some doing! bet it also took ages to deliver! at least that shouldnt be a problem on this cruise, most of us are on deck 5 or 6!

if you go over to the creative boards on the dis, there's some very kind people who will create designs for you. there's also a thread on the cruise board with cruise graphics. i've always just bought magnetic paper (you can get it from places like pc world or staples, but i've always found it cheaper to buy off ebay than in stores), then printed the design straight onto the paper. no mess no fuss!

I always use the cruise magnets thread on the disboards and get some fantastic door magnets.

We used the magnetic paper too, it was so easy and the A4 sheets off ebay were only about £3 for 5 sheets and just printed straight through our own printer and I just cut them out.

Here's the link for the fabbie magnets for your stateroom door number (I would say magnetic paper required for these):-

As for the priority boarding, if you mention to one of the cast members on arrival at the check-in area that your daughter has special needs, they will direct you to concierge priority boarding so you don't have to wait in line :thumbsup2 or at least that's what happens in Port Canaveral, so I don't think that Barcelona should be any different

i've had mickey ears for our door for our last 3 cruises, and i've had that thread bookmarked for ages, but just had another look and i'm definately going to have to get the stitch ears for our door for this cruise!

I've used Minnie for our last few cruises, but the parts got damaged beyond repair on the way home from the last WBTA.

Swithering what to print out too, I love Stitch, but wondering whether to stick with Mickey or Minnie..... the indecisive libran in me will ponder this one for months :rotfl2:

One other thing to bear in mind with the magnets is that you are not to use tape or anything that can mark or damage the door paintwork. I think in the past this has happened.

With the priority boarding you might be as well to arrive at the port a little later, say after 1pm so you can go straight through on to the ship. You will also miss the crowds that way which might be a problem for your daughter. It is a bit of a moiled to be honest, and that on top of the big line outside the terminal as they won't let you in till they are really ready. Once onboard you can't get to your room till after 1.30 anyway.

i agree with marilyn. your best option would probably to arrive later. that way you can check in and get onboard with minimum fuss and wait

I use art I've found here and various places on the 'Net, and print it on the magnetic sheets. I put multiple pictures on each sheet and cut them up. I usually do a couple of test runs on regular paper, though, to make sure I've got it right.

As for the priority boarding, on the airlines, I know it's helpful if you need a bit more time or help to get your stuff stashed in the overhead bins. That's not really an issue boarding the ship. It's very relaxed, and not like a crowded cattle drive (like on a plane). As the others have said, if standing in line is an issue, I'm sure the CMs will be able to help you with that.

We can do this anyway we want to. I like the idea of doing gifts for all the cabins, but I also know I've got budget limits, too. I like the multiple groups idea, but I think we need to wait a bit before we decide how many staterooms per group (remember, not everyone is a "family") to see what our total will be.

I'm doing the FE list for our October Dream trip, too. That one already has as many cabins as we have, and lots more people per cabin. I can see that one getting ridiculous pretty quickly. :scared1:

Wow that seems like very small groups?

Ten seems a bit small to me, too. We had 12 on our 4-nighter in October, and it did seem like we got lots of gifts (but remember, it was only a 4-nighter). It really was fun - like Santa or your birthday every day! :yay:

On the WBTA we had around 20 cabins per group and it worked great. Obviously there would need to be more participants to be able to split, but as Karen says there is plenty of time yet. It seemed like we got loads of gifts too.

I think 20 is a good number, too.

We can do it this way, but I really don't like the idea of imposing too many "rules" on this. I'd rather let people do it when it's convenient for them, rather than assigning days. On our last trip, some people gave a little thing more than once (we left something every day, but again, only a 4-nighter), and some did it just once.

I'd also prefer to leave the one-gift-per-cabin vs. one-gift-per-person up to the individuals. Again, I don't like to tell everyone how they have to do it. Sorry, I'm not very "rules" oriented when it comes to something that's supposed to be fun and creative.

But that's just MHO. We can always vote and see what the majority wants.

Are we continuing to post here until it is closed or has anyone asked a Mod to close this one? I have posted on the new thread, but it can get very confusing.:lmao:

we're going to carry on here til we get to 250 pages, then swap over. some people did jump the gun a bit and start on the new thread, so i have been keeping an eye on that and answering any questions i can, mainly so they dont think we're ignoring them.
