*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 5

I think I am going to tag all my FEs and get them organized so that I know I have everything, then pack them in their own suitcase for the trip. And I think I might do this TODAY (Ha - we'll see if that happens), so I have a couple questions:

I plan on putting people's names and cabin numbers on the gifts since I got different presents for different genders/ages, and then when I am on the cruise I can just look at the tag to know where to drop it off. Are you supposed to put who it is from also, like you would on a regular gift?

Did anyone who did the WBTA last year bring candy from the US? I'm wondering if I can pack it and bring it or if I need to buy some in Spain. And if I can bring it, does it have to be individually wrapped and/or in original packaging?

I have packed mine up with all the gifts per cabin in one bag then added a tag with the cabin number & who it is from. :) I have had gifts on my previous cruises where they haven't given their name but personally I like knowing who it is from so I always put my name on the things I give out. :goodvibes

Can't wait to meet you now too for a blether :rotfl2: my accent has softened over the years I have lived up North, so I'm not quite as broad as the rest of my family, but still have a soft Ayrshire accent, there's no mistaking it :lmao:

I'm really bad at understanding strong accents, do you come with sub titles? ;) :lmao:

For those of you who linked dining through me. Disney has confirmed our request.
GOOD JOB, Dan!

Gosh it is such a small world Jean. ... Can't wait to meet you now too for a blether :rotfl2: my accent has softened over the years I have lived up North, so I'm not quite as broad as the rest of my family, but still have a soft Ayrshire accent, there's no mistaking it :lmao:

I can't wait to meet you two, just to LISTEN to you talk:goodvibes

FE gifts - I give one per cabin - too much for the old lady's brain to try to figure out what's appropriate for the different age groups. Maybe I'll put my name on them and maybe not. depends on time. If you DO decide to put your name on them, computer generated return address labels are an easy method.

This question has been raised on Facebook twice in the last few days so i am reposting this info from the first page of the thread here & on facebook. :)

Room changes/Upgrades once onboard!

PLEASE NOTE:

If you are lucky enough to get an upgrade / change of stateroom and are taking part in any of the special events, such as the Fish Extender, Secret Mickey, Candy Swap, Scrapbook exchange etc then you will need to notify everyone of your new room number as soon as possible. Therefore I will put a whiteboard on my stateroom door 6507 as soon as we can access the rooms after boarding, please make your way there asap & leave a message stating your DIS name, old room number & new room number.

Anyone distributing gifts/exchange presents should swing by & check the board before delivering gifts to check on any room changes. I will also have a few spare printed FE lists in my FE just incase anyone forgets to bring a copy with them.

In the unlikely event that I get a room upgrade at the port, I will put my white board on my neighbours doors (Mary, Tod&Copper #6511) as there are several of us in that area of the ship. (I'll clearly mark the whiteboard as room change info so you know it is the right one & not someone's general message board).

I wasn't on it, but DCL rules state you can only bring on food products that are sealed in the original packaging. I would interpret this to mean if, for example, you purchased a bag of the Snickers fun size bars, that you could open the bag to distribute them to individual gift bags as long as the packaging around the candy bar remains sealed.

People from the USA brought candy from the USA on the last WBTA. I know as we had things like Peanut Butter Cups etc. They were all in their original packaging.

I am putting who it is from on the FE gifts .. I have had some little postcards printed with our name and contact details on and I will attach these to the FE gifts. :thumbsup2

Last year most people put who it was from on the gifts, but I would imagine it is optional :goodvibes

Came home last night to find out that a cat may be living under our house. It was cautious but friendly and when I pet it, the poor thing was a bag of bones. It had a collar, but no tags (why people? why?!!) so maybe it is lost. I fed it some dog food last night, and now I'm hoping we can find out where it belongs!!

They are taking over my tea on the 13th; but if they can't switch Brunch and want to do your tea on the 18th, I'll work with you guys to switch it all around.

That's very kind of you Lynne. I don't think Hazel & Annie have responded so I guess they're good w/ the schedule they have.

Hi guys.

Really sorry to the people I'm supposed to be meeting with tonight, but I can't make the meet up, chances are I'll be spending a couple of hours at work and then leavin to drive up to glasgow

Going to be AWOL on here for a bit, I'll try and respond to messages sent to me but it might take a while to reply

Just got a call from gary and unfortunately his dad lost his battle against cancer last night. I need to go into work as I need to find out what time I can get off and how long, then I'll be drivin up to glasgow tonight.
Really sorry to all the Kent meet-up people, I was really looking forward to meeting you all

Karen, I am so sorry for yours & Gary's loss. May God be with you during this tough time.

Are you worried about it being confiscated? I know you're not supposed to bring plants or produce items (like an apple) but with other items I think you're good to go. We've brought granola bars & trail mix in plastic baggies overseas before without any problem, so candy should be fine - wrapped or unwrapped. :thumbsup2

I should be ok with the Scottish accent .... I had good training on our last cruise as we had 4 people from Scotland on our table .... at first I had to concentrate to pick everything up, and they lost me on the slang, but mostly we managed ok :rotfl2:

Yeah, I don't want to get in trouble with customs. Thanks for all the responses, I feel pretty confident now I can throw some bags of candy in my suitcase, and if anything happens I can always buy more in Spain.

And, I will go ahead and make up tags with for the FEs with both To and From portions

Jacqueline I was so pleased to hear you are home. Hope all goes well with your recovery!

Karen John and I wish to express our deepest sympathies on the loss of Gary's father. Our prayers and thoughts will be with you and Gary's family in the coming days. Please drive carefully and take care of yourselves.

Maybe take it to your local vet and see if it has a chip to identify its owner. Our cats had chips put in.:goodvibes We have 3 indoor kitties but I have one that loves to run outside when I open my door. She likes to sunbathe! :rotfl: She usually stays right by the house on the porch but I'm always concerned a hawk might get her.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you for the kind words and loving support you've all shown.
M
I'm working til seven then I'm setting off for glasgow, will probably need to stop somewhere as I've only had three hours sleep and a seven hour drive after a nine hour shift isn't the best idea.
Will catch up with you all soon though.

Oh and before I forget, two spaces still left on the airport shuttle, PM if interested

safe trip & take care. x

Karen I hope you arrived safe in Glasgow. And I hope you get the time of your work to get a good farewell to your FIL. It is so important to do that good and with all the family. I know so, we had a funeral with all the relatives and we did it on our own way and that feld so good. It is now a couple of weeks ago and I can think in good memory of my dad.
It is a sad time now, but your FIL is now out of pain.
Hugs also to Gary.

Hi Paul (Tubbsteruk)!
Check your inbox - I've sent you a PM regarding the Beer Mug Package.
Hope all is well with you and your family - and that you are still safe!

I've seen this here before.....but could repeat it again for me. How many Euros and pounds are you taking? What kind of rates have you gotten. We just checked today and euros were 1.4555, pounds were 1.6594. Thanks! :thumbsup2

BofA wants $1.4900/euro and $1.6987 per GBP today. hmm..

Amazing how in one day's time you can get different rates from different banks! :confused3 Have you gotten yours yet? How much of each did you get?

No, I'll probably order them the week before we leave (like 8/29). Not sure how may to get yet - need to sit down and figure out how many we need of each and for what.

Happy Friday to all! I was looking through my FE purchases to make sure I have enough of everything for adults and realized that I have a lot of kids stuff! I originally bought kids things before the lists were all split up. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone with younger kids would want to add any extra kids to exchange with, just the kids not adults. We are only on the Castaway Cay list, so I thought about maybe picking up some of the younger kids from the other groups. I don't have extra adult gifts, but I thought I might like to add some extra kids gifts since I have them anyway. If anyone else is like me and has extra kids stuff they would like to exchange, feel free, and if you don't that is fine too, just know that if you get a little extra from us for your kids that we didn't get confused as to what list we were on! :lmao: Thanks, I am not trying to mess anyone's FE plans up, so don't feel obligated at all, I just have extra!

I am not traveling with any kids this time but I usually give kids gifts to all the kids on all the groups... I think this time there is only just over 30 total.... I love seeing the kids get magic.....
