I hope I'm not too late to join the fun. I'm going to take a while to find all the good hints, tips, events etc already posted.

We're from the North of England, my name's Graeme and my wife is Margaret, returning to the Magic after a great Mediterranean experience September 2010.

:welcome: aboard Graeme & Margaret. We are Claire & Lee from Hertfordshire.

I would recommend reading the first two pages of this thread first as it has all the information on events that we are all organising. It is getting near the cut off point (1st August) for some things. :)

Hi and welcome. Marilyn(and John here). Good to see you here.

I don't think you are too late for anything. When Noel(Birkner) is awake(she lives on the US west coast) she will post a very helpful welcome wagon with everything on it you could ever wish to know about what is going on. She is also responsible for lanyards if you would like them.

Welcome aboard Graeme & Margaret - We're not far from your part of the world, we are Michell & Neil and live in Newcastle

It's always the woman who carries the load, it seems :goodvibes. That's why DH and I shared the bag last time. I've decided on a money belt for him (because I don't want to leave any money at the hotel, even in a safe) and a small Pacsafe bag for myself (gotta take the camera). Mother is taking a neck pouch...I've given her "the talk", too. DD already has a Pacsafe bag for her laptop, etc.

My only concern at this point is safely getting from the Aerobus to our hotel with our luggage, but that's another topic (it's only a block, so should be manageable).

I have the Pacsafe slingsafe 100 model in black and I love it. Have used it for 2 years on various trips and sometimes use it at home as well. It lays flat against me, and I wear it in front and usually my hand is even on the purse for extra measure. Its also water resistant. DS is usually in charge of carrying our rainjackets (jacket in a packet from Old Navy), umbrella, water bottles and snacks. I also have a small one shoulder across the body backpack from KIVA (bought at a luggage store) to hold all that gear. The backpack folds up to the size of a credit card and you can throw it in your purse (its about 2 inches thick folded) or attach it to your belt (its got a hook thingie (too early and not enough coffee! :rotfl:). I'll just carry an emergency poncho in my purse in case or if it does rain, wear the jacket anyway. For the water bottle, I found propolene covers for water bottles at Walmart and they kept our water pretty cool in Barcelona and while touring. There is a ring to attach a carabiner, so I hook it on to my pacsafe purse. When I travel, I take a small bilfold just to hold necessary ID's and CC. I also just bought a collapsible water bottle at Eddie Bauer that I will be trying out. So when I'm done, both propolene cover and bottle will fit nicely inside of said purse. :goodvibes

If there are more than 2 of you traveling together, it may be about the same or just a bit more to take a taxi and have peace of mind. Four will fit in a taxi, if you are in the cue and they want to jam 4 of you and all your stuff in a car model, tell them you will wait for the next available bigger taxi sedan or just point. There is usually a line of taxis just waiting at the airport. They do have to take passengers in order of the cue (for the taxis), you can just let the one or 2 people behind you take those smaller taxis when you are in a larger group. Write down your hotel name and complete address for the taxi driver. Many do not speak English. Oh, and any luggage that goes in the trunk gets charged 1 euro per piece so put your big cases in there, and hold your smaller carry on's on your lap if you want to save a few euro. It will run approx 30 euro from the airport to the Ramblas area (a bit more if its later at night and I think there's a slight surcharge for weekends. When you go to the port in a taxi, there is a port charge so even though the distance is alot closer, the taxi may be almost as much.

And if you need bottled water, you can buy that at the port terminal, and they will put a handle on it so you can carry it on to the ship. Large bottle 6 packs ran 8 euros I think. One big bottle filled at least 3 reg sized water bottles if I'm remembering correctly. You can probably buy it for a bit less in town, but this will save you from lugging so far. Some wine and souveniers are also for sale at the terminal.:)

Same here. We've got 2-3 blocks to go, but I'll have 3-4 bags. Maybe I should just wear a big sign that says, "Hi, rob me!" :rotfl:

Excellent points.
I wanted to add that in Barcelona last summer we were given bottles of water (1 or 2 per person) as we checked in to board. You can save that bottle and refill it for ports. Last EBTA I brought a case of water on board, and only used 4 bottles, leaving behind almost an entire case full. We just refilled our 4 bottles for the entire 15 days.
What may be a good idea, is to ask your hotel's bar or kitchen to put your water bottle in their deep freezer until morning. Freezers and ice are not as common in Europe as they are in North America but they do have deep freezers. This way your water can be cold all day while you tour precruise.

I wanted to share something I am thinking about. Two cruises ago we used collapsible luggage (the army bags on wheels that are full sized). I did this to save a few kgs since the hard body cases are a little heavier when empty allowing for less personal items to fill to airlines restrictions. Also the rental cars in Europe and taxis are smaller than the full sized North American cars. With collapsible luggage I was able to empty some luggage while we drove around in rental cars pre-cruise in Europe. Then on the cruise these collapsible bags were great because they stowed under the bed.
Then on last May's EBTA I wanted the Hey's hard body spinner luggage since we were to be in Europe for 8 days later and didn't want to rely on porters or taxis. These in turn were harder to stow in the stateroom. However, we were able to roll them around anywhere we wanted.
Now, for this cruise, I think I'm returning to collapsible. What are you all doing for type of luggage? Hard body or collapsible full sized luggage?

I made the investment before last year's med cruise to buy 4 25" Mother Lode TLS junior bags made by ebags. Its like the best of both worlds, hard sided on one side, duffle soft on the other. If you watch the video, you will see all the amazing features. Its like 2 suitcases in one! They are pricey but carry a lifetime warranty. I was sick of buying new luggage so often so I should be good for life!! :rotfl:

This is what the 4 of us used for 26 days in Europe last year, plus we had 1 rolling carry on, a backpack and 2 smaller duffle carry-ons. I also have ebags packing cubes in 4 different colors for each of us - makes packing and unpacking and organizing a breeze! There is a huge thread on the DCL forum about these:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2745670
The cases fit under the bed when they are opened up as they are very deep! Fully packed, 50 lb is my limit. If you get the larger size, you will probably be over the weight limit, not to mention height since you have to account for the wheels. I also just purchased the 21" carry on and we used that this last Med trip and was able to keep my weight restriction at 12 kg for Brussels Airlines (they weighed all our carry on's - the first time I have ever had carry on's weighed.

Started my day this morning listening to the Spectromagic music on Subsonic Radio - does anyone else listen to Subsonic? I love listening to all of the Disney tunes!

Anyhow, with that cheery song in my head, I'm not so bothered that we don't have a stateroom # yet......."On this magic niiiiiight a symphony in Spectromagic, pure enchantment lights our waaaaaay" :music:

ST MAARTEN CURRENCY

Anyone ever been to St Maarten? I know Aurore has. Most websites say we can use US $ in St Maarten and euros in St Martin. Can someone verify?

We've been to both sides on different cruises & used dollars both times w/o any problems. :thumbsup2

Didn't know what you were talking about, so looked it up

Advocaat (or advokat) is a rich and creamy liqueur made from eggs, sugar and brandy. It has a smooth, custard-like flavor. In English-speaking countries it generally contains 15% alcohol (30 proof), but in Continental Europe the typical alcohol content differs from country to country and is generally somewhere between 14% and 20% ABV. Its contents may be a blend of egg yolks, aromatic spirits, sugar or honey, brandy, vanilla and sometimes cream (or evaporated milk). Notable makers of advocaat include Warners, Bols, Dwersteg (first organic advocaat), Verpoorten, Warninks, Cooymans, Jansen and De Kuyper.

Hmmm, this sounds a little icky to me. For those who have had it, do you like it?

Boots is a pharmacy / toiletries etc shop and doesn't sell alcohol. I think Mary was talking about decanting her alcohol ( Cassis ) into the 100mls empty toiletry bottles you can buy in Boots so she doesn't have to bring a whole bottle. Great idea :thumbsup2

You know what's funny Sarah? Our pharmacy Walgreens here in FL does sell alcohol - its walled off on one side of the store w/ a separate entrance.

Here are a few from Disneyland Paris in December, not much snow but it looked pretty! :cold:

Sorry I got a bit carried away.

OMG so beautiful! :lovestruc Thanks for sharing (and getting carried away!) Claire!

Polite notice to Disney Cruise Line

Please could you be nice to your loyal fans and put us out of our stinking misery. If you could be so kind as to post the room assignments in the next 5 hours before I get home from work that'd be lovely.
If you can't, maybe we'll all go over to Royal Carribean instead :rotfl:

Thanks,
Everyone on the disboards!

Here here!! I checked this morning and still no number. Maybe if I STOP checking it will finally happen......putting it out of my mind right now! :teleport:

thank you for your post! i never saw this type of luggage before. The Heys was pretty but too sturdy for me. The collapsible ripped and DCL mended it perfectly overnight on the last night, returned it to my room in time for packing. Amazing service!
I was so surprised that my hand luggage was weighed in May on Air Transat. I've traveled very often and never had my hand luggage weighed. I put all my books inside and came out 15 kg over. I was charged 320 euros (have no idea how they figured this fee out but it was last minute to check in, and had no time to ask). I told them this was ridiculous, that I would unpack my carryon and throw out the things I could into the waste. The manager said to me "think of all the homeless people and you are throwing things away?"
Sure, instead you want me to pay 320 euros instead...hmm. Had no choice but to pay. Again, never had my hand luggage weighed. Now I learned my lesson. :scared1:

I'll sign that petition!!! :lmao:DH is making me crazy with this :sad2:!

You're welcome. :goodvibes

To be honest it's not as sickly as it sounds, you just put a little Advocaat in the bottom and then fill the glass with lemonade/sprite.

Well that UPS package from the Walt Disney Travel Company turned out to be our Disneyland Package for August, not for the cruise. Not that I am sad because I am soooooo excited to go to Disneyland. :yay::yay::yay:. I thought it was way to soon to get anything from DCL. Patience is NOT one of my strong points.

I have been trying to read the whole thread to not repeat but I don't think I have seen this question yet... For those of you who have cruised on DCL or on this length of cruise is there a list of MUST HAVES that I need to make sure to pack? TIA

You can NEVER have too many pairs of comfortable shoes !!!!!! ha ha

So I guess when Mary was talking about snowballs she wasn't talking about these ...

ETA: whoa, didn't know picture was going to be that big!

My DH loves those dreadful things? Talk about pure sugar. One will keep you awake for a week. I personally am not a huge fan of coconut or marshmellow.. I am more of a Funny Bones kind of girl. I loves my chocolate and peanut butter. As I may have mentioned before Reeces Pieces RULE !!!!!

Yay, this was pretty too...................NOT:scared1::scared1:. In the parking lot at my place in Feb.

Our yard in New Jersey looked very much like that from Dec 27th right through to the beginning of April. I got so sick of seeing white. I practically kissed the grass when we finally saw it again. Sooooo NOT looking forward to another winter. I'm a summer girl myself. I know, I wive in the wrong part of the counrty.
