Good luck on that! You will find there really isn't any internet while we are crossing the atlantic. When you do get a connection, closer to land, it is so slow you usually give up after about 15 min of waiting to bring up a website. We bought the 500 Min. package for $150 and had to get a refund because we just could not get online. We were not the only ones. Please do not depend on getting online, even DCL's computers are bad, actually worse. You may want to tell your boss if he does not hear from you it is not because you are having way too much fun to contact him, but that you tried and it was impossible...... Sorry to be the bearer of bad internet news....

I can live w/o the internet, but please tell me I'll be able to get a cell phone connection. There's no way I'll get through all those sea days w/o checking on my dogs a couple of times!

05. If you are interest in getting a WBTA lanyard, please PM Noel (birkner). See this lanyard link for example of the previous 2010 WBTA lanyard. Hopefully, a group of DISers will volunteer to underwrite the lanyards as they did last year so they will be free to the rest of the DISers. We already have several people offering to be part of the lanyard underwriting group. If you wish to join, please send Noel (Birkner) a PM. If we get enough members, the cost should be $10 or less per member.

06. If you are interested in a WBTA lanyard pin, please PM Noel (birkner). See the lanyard link above for example of the previous 2010 WBTA pin. Cost will be 5 Euros per pin. Payment is to be made by June 30, 2011 to birkner@needinfo.com on PayPal. Contact Noel (birkner) if you have more questions about pins.

07. If you are interested in participating in a Mickey Mouse Club night, please check out this Mickey Mouse club post. Plans are to do this event on Monday September 19 at both early and late seating dinners. We will all wear our Mickey Mouse shirts and ears!!

08. I am organizing two tours in Madeira. West we did last year and also one for East Madeira. Here is the a PDF file that gives more information about the 2010 tour. If you are interested, please send Noel (birkner) a PM.

09. We are also going to do a Champagne Girls meet. The Champagne Girls event originated on the WBPC cruise in 2008. Women get together dressed in pink to drink champagne or non alcoholic bubbly and chat. Pictures of the first meet are in this post and pictures from the last WBTA are in this post. Please PM (Clare)Pinky166 to add you name to the list.

10. If you would like to join in the Scrapbooking Exchange, please PM Clare (Pinky166) with your name and room number. The idea is to give your fellow exchangers some scrapbooking embellishments for use in your scrapbooks after you return home! For more info check this post.

11 Join us for a Pajama breakfast on September 18 at 10:00 AM at Lumiere's. We will meet outside Lumiere's at 9:50 AM to take group pictures. If you are interested, please PM Mandy (MandyGirl) with the number in your party.
Here is the picture from the PJ breakfast on last years WBTA.

12. Mandy (MandyGirl) is organizing a Tortola Excursion of a group rate day sail on a power catamaran to Jost VanDyke with Tortola Charters. Please PM Mandy with the number in your party if you are interested in being added to the standby list of this full excursion.

13. Claire (Pinky166) is organizing a Ladies High Tea at Palo's. If you are interested, send her a PM for details. Ladies High Tea is planned for September 13 at 3:00 PM.

14. Squitty (Michelle) is organizing private Mixology and Mojito tastings. If you are interested, send her a PM for details.

15. Karen (Pixie Dust For Me!)is organizing stateroom tours, but we can't do it without you! PM me with your stateroom assignment and room number and we will tour as many staterooms as possible. It would be great to get one in every category!
When: Definitely on a sea day....stay tuned for which day!
Time: TBD
Where: You will be given a list of participating stateroom numbers and categories the day after we embark (to account for all those upgrades, don't you know )
Refreshments: Optional per discretion of stateroom participant.

16. If you want a designed DIS tee shirt for this cruise, follow the instruction in this post. DIS Tee shirt

17. Cliffy 97 (Dan and Bruce) are organizing a typical English pub crawl on Friday, September 16 from 1:00PM until 5:00PM. We can then restart after dinner.
Those who were interested will in one of the bars for ( Traditionally a half pint pounded, I would suggest a drink of your choice) and then visit (Crawl) every other bar on the ship at least once.
As we do not have to worry about anything closing or how we are getting home, I would imagine we can spend 20-30 min at each location versus the 5-10 min you have on the monopoly pub crawl in London.

Tee Shirt Order Site
More details on the pub crawl here: Pub Crawl

If you are located outside of the USA and want a t-shirt, please PM Chris&Jeremy and he will send you the artwork so you can have your own shirt printed locally.

18. If anyone wants to organize a postcard exchange, please feel free to start one. What we did las year is bring a postcard from where we lived and left in each other's FE. It is best to limit the number of participants no more than 25 as cost and weight to bring become an issue.

19. If you are interested in joining us for a farewell lunch, contact Claire (Pinky166) to be added to the list.
Come & join us for a farewell DIS lunch on the last sea day. Thursday 22nd Sept at 12.15pm, we are not sure which of the three rotational restaurants will be open on that day, should there be more than one open I have put them in order of preference - 1st Lumiere's, 2nd Parrot Cay or 3rd Animator's Palate.
Please make sure you check your Navigator that morning to see which restaurant is open for lunch as I won't be able to tell you in advance.
Please PM me if you'd like to join us and I will add you to the list, then once onboard notify the restaurant so they can seat us together at some large tables.

20. Hard Rock Cafe Meet. Some of us are hoping to meet up for drinks/a meal the evening of Friday 9th September at 6:30 PM at the Hard Rock Cafe on Placa Catalunya and is being organized by Sarah (Totally Angelic). Please send her a PM if you want to join in the fun!

21. Jane (We'reAliens) is organizing a Book Exchange. The idea is that a large bag will be hung on handrail outside stateroom 7120 available for anyone to borrow and, of course, donate books.

22. Jill (TxMermaid1) is organizing a dive in Tortola. Here is the info on the dive trip for Tortola Group leader lead by Jill Bouska, PADI Master Scuba Diver Instructor. Tortola Dive

I can live w/o the internet, but please tell me I'll be able to get a cell phone connection. There's no way I'll get through all those sea days w/o checking on my dogs a couple of times!

You might be able to get signal but you might not want to see the bill when you get home. Check with your provider but a lot of times when you are using your phone out of country it can be as expensive as $s a minute as opposed to cents. If you have to absolutely make a call try finding international calling cards when you get over there (very hard to find ones in the states that you can use over there). Will probably be a lot cheaper. And DONT use the ship phone unless it's an absolute emergency.

I have AT&T, so last year when I did a EBTA, I added International Roaming Voice for $5.99 and then it was 99 cents a minute. But that roaming application only applies while you are in port so you can connect with a tower there, not in open water. It cost much more if you could get a signal:scared1:. I cancelled the Intl. Roaming when I got home.

I did use my phone, but made quick calls. So check your options with your provider.

I wonder if I can get the GPS to work on my phone over open water. It would be lovely to have my Google Sky map working on my phone on a nice clear evening. I remember from the EBTA that they had a captain that was out there and showing us where different stars and planets were. It would be nice to see them anytime.

That's a possibility. Would the same card work everywhere, or would I need one for Europe & one for the Caribbean?

Okay, thanks for that. I'm on AT&T, too, so I'll have to see what they say. I can live w/ .99/min & make quick calls. I think if I can call from Gibraltar and Madeira, then from St. Maarten and Tortola, I'll be okay for the sea days.

The dogs w/ anxiety issues start doggie day-care next week. If they do well with that, I'll probably be less inclined to worry about them while we're away. I'm also planning a couple of over-nighters for them before we leave. (Don't tell me I don't have kids! ;) )

Can't believe all the good info swirling about on this forum! DH and I have a nighttime ritual of trying to catch up--I say trying because it's impossible, lol!

For you foodies, here is what we are doing on the 9th in Barca: http://www.cookandtaste.net/

I have been on this ship 2x before yet never entered Palo--what is your fave for brunch and/or dinner? We have ressies for both; sadly no tea.

I love brunch-all the seafood and the scones at tea are to die for. I was fortunate to get my ressies for both.

I looked at the same cooking option for the 9th-the cooking school looks like fun. So far I am signed up for a semi private 8 hour tour with Barcelona Day Tours for Montserrat and Cava. It is 79 Euros and can accomodate 5-12 people. They will let me know when they have the minimum signed up so if anyone is interested check them out at BarcelonaDaytours.com. We are doing a 1/2 day tour with them on the 8th of Barcelona to see the high points. If they can't get enough people to do the Montserrat and Cava tour I would enjoy the cooking class-my husband not so much although he likes the eating part.

Is anyone doing or have you done a flamenco show at the Spanish Village? I don't know how much I can cram into 2 days in Barcelona. Thank goodness the first sailing day is a sea day so I can rest.

I have AT&T so thanks for the info. To clariify, you could not get a signal unless in port, correct?

I like the idea of booking a couple of vans for Gibraltar. More active and less active sounds great. Neither Kevin nor I are fans of caves--little bit claustrophic--so we would prefer a tour that did not include lots of time to visit dark, tiny, scary caves!

So, count us in for two for the less active tour group.

Sarah & Lauren, I can meet you anytime, anywhere on July 5. Animal Kingdom sounds fine. I advise either staying away from the Magic Kingdom on July 4, or else go early and plan to stay for the entire day. It often happens that MK reaches capacity on the 4th, and capacity is really, really crowded. I am scheduled to work afternoon-to-night on both July 4 and July 6.

Weather at WDW--it is raining, but so far I haven't heard thunder.

Karen

A less active tour sounds fun we would definitely prefer something like that. We're def staying away from MK on the 4th. We were going to go to DHS. We got the fantasmic package with lunch at 11:30. Do you think DHS will reach capacity? We would like to go back and take a nap after lunch. We're going to Tuskar House for breakfast on the 5th then we'll be at Animal Kingdom. But if there's somewhere else Sarah wants to meet that's fine. We leave for afternoon naps anyway. :goodvibes

If you guys are in the Hollywood Studios on Monday, go to the Animation Studio. If you see a guy named Mike (I think only one in that area) tell him hi and keep up the good work. It is my DH and he is working all of the overtime to pay for the cruise since I can't.

We'll take a look for him. Who knows how far we'll make it that day with DD. We've never gone this time of year and I know it's way hotter in Orlando than here in WV right now. :scared1:

That is for sure. Averaging low to mid 90s right now although we have had a couple days of upper 90s. High humidity and Heat index's of 100+. Make sure to take lots of breaks and drink lots of water!! The good thing is that if you go to animation academy they have a 9 minute show indoors and air conditioned. If you go around 3 or 4 o'clock (don't know exactly when) they have a TON of characters in the station area and then you can have them teach you how to draw a Disney character (all indoors and great for heat of day).

WiFi in Madeira

I know there's free WiFi in Madeira in the shopping center; I used it last year. The woman beside me was on Skype on her brand-new iPad. I was on an iPod touch.

Of course, I'll have to put up with Dennis' dirty looks as I haul all my luggage from the Aerobus to the hotel, but that's nothing compared to not having enough shoes for two weeks. Now, the fact that my carry-on will probably weigh more than Elvis might get me a lecture from him when he has to help me cram it in the overhead! But as I've said before, this is an adventure! Besides, he doesn't know any of the trip details, so if he wants to get on the right plane, get to the right hotel, get to the cruise, etc, he'll keep quiet about my luggage issues! :rolleyes1 :rotfl: Oh, and anyone who tries to grab a bag and run will no doubt incur a major injury from the weight of the thing, so I don't have to worry about that. See, there's always a bright side to things! :teeth:

We selected a hotel based on proximity to an Aerobus stop (didn't treasure the idea of lugging bags all over Barca and tougher to take a taxi for a larger group, I would think). At least there are five of us traveling, so we can spread the wealth over all our bags :thumbsup2.

Have I mentioned how much I just love our DIS group?!? :grouphug: Seems I wake up and go to sleep with you guys.... LOL! :rotfl: What did we do in the days before wireless internet and laptops? :confused3 And with the timezone difference, there is ALWAYS a group chatting!!! :dance3:

Me, too. Tied to a desktop here :goodvibes; thank goodness I don't have small children anymore, so I can spend lots of time online. It's becoming a sickness...I find myself "sneaking" Disboard peeks at work, even though I'm REALLY busy....I can't help myself ;)

OMG! I have that same disease!:rotfl:
And, sadly, it's incurable :confused3. Not sure if we need a mental health intervention or a telethon (to fund our next trips!)

Is anyone doing or have you done a flamenco show at the Spanish Village? I don't know how much I can cram into 2 days in Barcelona. Thank goodness the first sailing day is a sea day so I can rest.

I was wondering if anyone has been to the Spanish Village...looking for information in general. Is it worth a visit? The buffet restaurant within looks lovely, but pretty pricey for five of us. We'll be on the HOHO bus, which stops at the Village, so it's easy access, but I don't want to waste time and energy if it's not worth seeing. Anyone?

Started in on making FE treats tonight. Too fun and made me positively giddy with anticipation!

Here's a shout out to all you dieters! We are both in there too. Steve started Slimming World yesterday (on his own... no patience for the meetings), and I'm back on track with my low-carb plan after months of fiddling around and cheating. I lost 50 pounds last year, have put 6 back on :sad2: and am determined this time to get to my goal weight. I've got about 20 pounds to go.

<snip>

Excuses, excuses. In 5 cruises I've never set foot in the gym on a ship - maybe I need to work on this!

Let's go people!!!!!! Let's help each other out!!!!

Here's a shout back from a couple of fellow low-carbers! Stan has lost 35+ pounds and I've lost 25 (with 20 more to go as well) and we are making it a way of life. We realize on the cruise some allowances must be made--there is a Palo chocolate souffle in my future, after all-- but on the whole we will be trying. (By "trying" I mean I won't have my customary cruise fill of 5 rolls and butter with dinner.)

I thought I'd encourage you by applauding your loss and your maintenance of same!! Very inspiring!!

Perhaps we can Zumba down the ship's halls to shift some weight--and cause everyone else to want what we've been drinking :rotfl2:

Thanks for all your input and advice. Even though he is slightly more expensive, I think I will go with him vs. DCL because I really do want some flexibility in where we go..

Still looking for another group to go along...

Hi

We (x4) were thinking of touring the rock, and siege/war tunnels also. We would be happy to make up/add to a group.

I have signed up for the Rock Tour Excursion through DCL. However, I also looked into hiring Paul Del Mar based on some recommendations of you fellow DIS'ers. I just heard back from him and here is what he wrote:

Thank you for your email, Iv'e attached for your information our Official Taxi Tour Brochure.

My mini-bus carries 8 people. What I would ask is, if possible, if there are others that would like to do the tour I would appreciate if you would invite them to join us on the tour. Due to the high volume of passengers on the day I would like to fill the mini-bus to full capacity ( if you wish to just go on your own I understand and would still undertake the tour)

The price for the tour's are as follows: (Minimum of 4 persons)

£22.00 sterling or Euros 25.00 (standard tour) entrance tickets included. Lasting approx 1hr 30mins

£30.00 sterling or Euros 33.00 (extended tour) entrance tickets included. Lasting approx 2hrs

So first question: Does anyone know the difference between hiring him and going on the DCL excursion? He is SLIGHTLY more expensive since DCL gives us a break on the kids, but I am hoping that if we have our own minibus we can get a more personalized tour. Specifically, I am trying to limit my mom's walking so I would like to be brought as close as possible to the sights.

Second questions: Would anyone like to join us and fill up the van?

GatorMom (4 people): Looks like you have got some takers:

Keri & son (Pixie Dust For Me!) - (2)

jinxleprechaun (4)

Evelyn (fly4free2) - (1) not a lot of walking

Namsupak (3) including Lorelei (about 2 yrs?)

Rikersmom (2) less active

There's not a lot of walking on this tour, only if you go down into the tunnels.

We're in port from 7:30 - 6pm

:welcome: aboard. We are Claire & Lee from Hertfordshire, England.

I see that the Disney Cruise Line website is still down.

Did everyone hear about the Disney's Club Penguin website recently, Disney failed to re-register that domain name in time so the website just vanished for several days, bearing in mind that site gets tens of millions of hits each week that's a pretty big mistake.

I can only imagine the heads that rolled over that little mistake

SW

Oh dear, that is rather embarrassing for them! I bet someone was fired over that little error!!!!

If you guys are in the Hollywood Studios on Monday, go to the Animation Studio. If you see a guy named Mike (I think only one in that area) tell him hi and keep up the good work. It is my DH and he is working all of the overtime to pay for the cruise since I can't.

How cool!

Your DH should say Hi to Taryn - TotallyAngelic's daughter. :goodvibes

Hi Karen ..... I think I will have to dig out my bright yellow Disney poncho!

Karen and Lauren .....

So do we want to meet up somewhere at Animal Kingdom on 5th or somwhere like Downtown Disney in the evening. What time are you planning on staying in the park until Lauren and where abouts are you staying. Perhaps Karen would have a good idea of a meeting point as you know the area.

We will try and say hi to Mike ..... if you guys are in the Orlando area why don't you meet up with us ( us, Karen and Lauran and family ) on the 5th July. My DD Taryn is on the ICP working in Mickey's of Hollywood Store on Hollywood Boulevard.

Excellent weight loss ... well done. I don't seem to be shifting any more lbs at the moment. I am off to Orlando on Friday so I will porbably locate a few more, as even though I am going to try and eat sensibly 80% of the time
( no bread, fries etc ) there will be a cinnabon and a dole whip in my future
( Orlando essentials ).

That's a great idea why don't we pick a sea day and arrange to turn up at, say, 2.30 for an impromptu Cove Cafe DIS Afternoon Tea, I know it's not Palo high tea but, it'll be a great opportunity for a relaxed meet.

SW

The treats in Cove Cafe this summer were absolutely gorgeous, I particularly enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries :lovestruc An excellent idea for an alternative to Ladies High Tea :thumbsup2

Any excuse for a Cove Cafe Bailey's coffee

Hi there :welcome: aboard !! We are Mary and DH Stevie from Scotland. This will be our 9th Disney cruise. We did the WBTA last year and it was fantastic, so jumped at the chance to do it again this year :)
