Oh my word ..... just looks at my countdown ... it says

3 months and 30 days

I can't believe we are down to 3 months something already, now that is scary :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I feel very unprepared, still can't fit into any clothing, have a WDW holiday in July which won't help, and with only August to shift all the excess baggage it isn't looking good. :scared1::scared1:

Still not really getting underway with my FE gifts and everything else either.
Do we have a cut off date when we will know how many and who are in our group. :confused3:confused3

I feel the very same way very unprepared. I am also wondering about the cut off date.

I think I am going to hold off buying clothes until August too. :thumbsup2

That is what I am planning to do too, but I hope I will have enough time..;)

I think I am going to hold off buying clothes until August too.

I've been slowly adding $$'s to my Fairfx card too, I love that little card! :thumbsup2

I love our card too, it's so handy. I am considering getting the Euro FairFX card too:)

So what are the benefits of these FairFX cards ... do you get tourist rate or bank rate when you use them and do they charge comission / fees etc . At the moment I use a fee free CC in Europe and in USA, and get the bank exchange rate, so I just wondered why everyone is getting one of the Fairfx cards .... don't want to be left behind :rotfl2:

Sarah all I did was go to the ESTA page, I couldn't find my esta numbers so just used the "forgot esta" section and logged in using passport number and d.o.b. then it brings your details up, simply change the hotel name where you are staying in July & click update. Very easy to do. :thumbsup2

Thanks Claire ... we need to get DS all ESDA'd up for July so I will update ours at the same time once I attach the computer to the printer.

morning everyone, just wanted to say a very big thank you to michelle (squitty), she posted about a sideways cabin this morning and we are now in cabin 6015, we where worried for a bit as we had to ring virgin to get the cabin changed but for once they got it right and we now have a sideways cabin, so big thank you michelle, susie

Wonderful news Susie .... not far from us now ..... there are a lot of us in the same area. We are in 6003! One thought though ... what if DCL decide to give us all a free upgrade to a verandah cabin .. we could then be scattered all over the ship :scared1: no more :dance3::dance3:

Scooters are first come, first served in the parks. Daily cost is $50, with a $20 refundable key deposit. If you park hop, you just bring your deposit ticket from the first park and they will honor it (if they have scooters available) at the second park.

I don't know where or how long you are staying, but it is a much better deal to rent a scooter from a 3rd party. We've rented them for a week at a time for the same or less than 3 days at a park. And most of these places will deliver/pick up at your hotel. If you are staying on a Disney property, they can deliver to your hotel, and you can ride the scooter on the bus/monorail/boat - whichever of the free transports you are taking to the parks, then ride it right up to your room. If you wait and rent when you get to the park, you still need to get from the parking lot or from the drop off point for the free Disney transportation, to the rental place inside the gates. For my mother, at least, even that far was too far.

Also, I'm not sure, but I think that if you are staying on a Disney-affiliated property, you MIGHT be able to rent it cheaper from the actual Disney hotel you are staying at (as opposed to renting when you get to the park), even on a daily basis, and then take it to the park with you. It seems like at one point I was going to stay at the Hilton or someplace at LBV and that was what we were going to do.

If you are not staying on a Disney property, you will need to break them down (fairly easy, usually the heaviest part is around 25lbs when broken down) and load/unload from your car. We've used a couple of these places, but the last time we used AppleScooter.com because their scooters looked light weight and as I recall their customer service and product were really good.

thank you, very excited now, got my dancing shoes all ready lol,

Yay! Glad you were able to snag one!

Dennis survived the night.

Oh, yeah, the FE exchange. I think Aug 1 sounds like a good cut-off date. What does everyone else think? We have about 25 cabins signed up so far. Let me know, and I'll update the post on pg 1.

Okay, off to wash the doggies!

I actually woke up thinking about poor Dennis... glad he survived!

Aug 1 is a reasonable cut-off IMHO.

My poor Kipperbaby always hated baths, but boy did he sure know he was good looking after one! You could just tell he KNEW how clean he was!!

I was feeling bad leaving you behind, glad you're upstairs now too

No worries! :thumbsup2 I told my daughter we weren't going to be by the man in the kilt any more, and she is still so interested in seeing that on formal night! (Gotta love perceptions of a 4-year-old!)

Also some good news ....DD's visa arrived today ... she has been cleared to work in USA for 3 months :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Congrats on that!! Glad it arrived!!

Dennis survived the night. I told him to tell the boss he'll have internet access during the trip. I didn't tell him it's ungodly expensive. He can deal with that.

Tell me about the Euro FairFX card. I assume it's like a cash card - put money on, use it like a credit card til the money runs out. Does anyone know if we can get them in the States? Maybe from a bank here? I hate carrying cash, so that sounds like my kind of thing.

Glad to see everyone is getting the cabins they want. We'll stay in the "quiet zone," on 5 aft, but we'll be up to join the conga line with you! I like where we are - it's easy to find, especially late in the evening! ;)

Lol. definately don't tell Dennis of the internet costs. ;) :rotfl2:

I don't think the Fairfx cards are available to you guys over the pond. :guilty:

I think 1st August is good. :thumbsup2

I am sure we will survive if we all get free upgrades! We can dance on top deck. :cool1:

The Fairfx card is a Mastercard that you top up as & when you like with $'s or Euro's depending on which one you get. What I do, when I can afford it and the rate is good (ish) I add dollars to it, so for example if the rate is 1.60 then I will pay £100 through my debit card and they top up my Fairfx card with $160.00. You get the exchange rate as per the day you buy the $'s, so I only buy when i'm happy with it.....currently if it's above 1.60. :thumbsup2

You can also use it to withdraw $'s from a cashpoint but I haven't done that, don't see the point (they charge a small fee for that) especially when you can pay for something that's $3 on the card, I did in Feb much to Lee's embarrassment. :lmao: I'd left all our cash in the room safe so I had to.

Anyway so when you go to the US, you just use it as you would a credit card (everywhere that excepts Mastercard) and it saves carrying cash around, plus the big bonus for me is it's all pre paid so I don't have a huge credit card bill when I get home.....although saying that I usually still do, as I spend everything on my Fairfx card & start on the credit card! Well what can I say, i'm a shopahollic! ;)

Does that make sense?

Susie, so glad you managed to snag a sideways cabin, felt so bad that you missed out on my old cabin yesterday. But yay for finally getting one!

Man, the FE deliveries are going to be so easy, pretty much most of the FE group is on deck 5 and 6! August 1st as a cut off sounds great for me. The dream maiden voyage sounds like a bad idea, can't imagine people still joining the day before!
Our last cruise we did allow last minute people in after the cut off but only on the understanding that they had to but gifts for all rooms but might not receive from all rooms.

thank you karen, please dont feel bad it all worked out in the end, thanks again

we heard that you could order a disney cruise dvd of the website, so we applied for one online and it came today, sadly no dvd but a lovely brochure, it shows you all round the boat and all the different destinations and there is a floor plan of each floor, put a big cross by our cabin lol, susie

http://www.fairfx.com/

Sarah, the thing about the card is that you put how ever many $$'s you want to and you don't have to worry about a big CC bill at the end of your trip as you've prepaid it.

I love the fact that I can upload the card while I'm away too. You get a slightly better rate than the tourist rate.
The card is valid for 3 years I believe.
You can also keep an eye on your balance while away by checking online.

We had a FairFX card for a few year now.

Thanks for the info, the good thing is that they are early birds so we will hit the theme parks early and then come back to the Boardwalk in the afternoon to rest.

Did try to suggest getting one for the duration of our stay (10 days) but he is a proud "old" man so this way he feels as though he is in charge, Mum and I know better:rotfl2:

We are staying at the Boardwalk, so taking Disney transportation everywhere, Dad is able to walk a fair distance just thought the theme parks would just be too much for him.

But saying that I will "work" on other options, just have to get him to accept that he will need some help on this holiday. Worst case we will have lots and lots rest periods during the day.

Thanks

Burnice

Need some advice about hiring scooters / wheelchairs at the various theme parks, Dad doesn't want to hire one for the duration of our stay at the Boardwalk, said he would consider hiring something for the day when we get to a park, if he needs it (he doesn't want to admit that he might need the help). Can you order on line or do you have to wait until you get to the theme park? Any idea of cost?

Burnice; hop on over to the disABILITIES part of the DIS. All the info you could dream about is there in the stickies on the top. It includes prices, phone numbers etc. etc. Offsite rental can be done beforehand online/phone, onsite can NOT. That is first come, first served and they can and do run out.

If he can navigate one; opt for the ECV. It gives him freedom to move about without having to need a helping hand. That's a big thing for any person and even more so when they are reluctant to give into the fact that they can not do a park without a type of aid. With that he could travel back to the hotel earlier if he wants to without feeling he has to "rain on your parade", grab himself something to eat from the boardwalk, run and get your mom a cup of coffee, just do whatever he feels like doing. They do take some practice, but are pretty easy to navigate. If possible; offsite rental imho! It's cheaper and the ECV's are easier to navigate (3 wheels have a smaller turning radius than the huge 4 wheel ones that WDW rents out). Also it comes with real independance instead of him still possibly having troubles with distances at the boardwalk after a long day or getting back to the busstop after hitting the parks.

Have him try one out at one of the malls at home. Obviously each brand and type comes with it's own little caracter but I've found the basics of being able to navigate one to be pretty darn close for whatever brand or type you use. It would also give him some time to get used to crowds and feel confident enough. If he's worried about getting it on and off the bus; you can do that for him if desired.

If you find you need to opt for wheelchairs, again; offsite rental! Cheaper and much better material. Those rental onsite chairs are just......bad. Great that the option is there but they are beaten down, uncomfortable etc.

Small tidbits; bring along a cushion he's comfortable on to make a rentalchair more comfy. Also bring along something like a towel, breathing cotton or something alike. The sun is brutal! Most seats are black, can you imagine sitting back into the chair/ECV after it has been out in the sun? Not just that, but sitting down for a long time in that heat can cause you to sweat. The materials used in rental seating for chairs and ECV's are non breathable and will stick to you in bad nasty feeling ways in the Florida sun. :headache: A simple piece of comfy fabric draped over the seat and back solves that immediately.

If he has any worries about what others might think or whatever; tell him he should not. WDW is set up for him to do whatever he can do but to use help wherever needed. It is perfectly OK to use an ECV for instance in the parks but not in the lines if he can still navigate those without. Just park it outside in the designated areas, enjoy a ride or show like normal and use the aid for transportation. If he can not; by all means take it along!!!!!!!!! That's what they are for. He can transfer out of it when it's his time to ride. Or if better suiting his health; in some rides he can stay in a wheelchair and ride. This usually adds waitingtime (few carts available), but use the option if it's better for him. An ECV does come with the need to transfer to a wheelchair for a larger amount of rides/shows. The specific list can be found at the disABILITIES stickies and it's clearly marked on parkmaps and CM's working the ride will also help you out there.

As far as proud goes; proud is great but do not let it become stupidity. Stopping oneselve and/or there loved ones from doing what they could've and/or would've done if his health would've allowed it, is just stupid and silly. Tell him I said ;) there is a huge amount of pride to be found in honoring your body and health and not ruining it. That there is more pride in respecting ones own limitations. Using an aid is just that; using something for ones benefit. It is not a ride of shame, it is a ride of smart. And do the harsh math. A typical WDW day comes with 10 miles a day. Can he do 100 miles in 10 days? Heck, can he even do 50 in 10 days? If no is the answer or "yes, but it results in..................... (pain, whatever), that is a clear sign he will benefit from an aid. Brookdad, take it from a too stubborn 31-year old; ignoring yourself any aid that you could benefit from will only result in a worse trip than using one ever can. The difference can be heaven or hell.

If you find you need help or something while onsite; ask around. CM's are wonderfull in helping when it comes to needs. Also feel free to contact myself if I can be of any help. I'll be down at WDW for 14 nights, so I'll be there for your whole trip. I've done WDW both solo and with others and use a chair 24/7 (at WDW that results in a powerchair anywhere outside of the room). I'm not unfamiliar with being more stubborn than smart sometimes ;) and have been through the process of having to deal with declining mobility. Heck, if that's what would be needed to have him be OK with using some help, I'ld happily do some parktime or boardwalk time with him to "hide behind" me and see first hand how it also can be instead of struggling during the day more than has to be.

PS; how is his stability? I know for quite a few folks with mobility limitations that also can be a thing, for instance after a long day of moving about. If that is the case; you can ask for a showerseat both from DCL and WDW. That doesn't require you to book an accessible room (thus taking out a bit of the pride-issue :) ). You can simply put the seat in the tub and have a safe place to sit down and shower. Which would be a huge benefit, esp. onboard a moving ship if stability isn't what it used to be.

Dingding, dumb me, just came to mind; have you considered the cruise itself? The ship isn't that small and most of us do a lot of running to and from all day. That so easily adds up distance wise. Can he manage that for 14 days on a ship? You probably already have that covered, just wanted to mention it as I've seen some folks misjudge the distances and having difficulty fully enjoying their cruise. Just hate it when that happens to anybody.

Hi Everyone,
I'm not one for posting very often, but read daily for updates and all the fantastic information that you all have, thanks by the way!!! I was wondering if you have directios to Morrison's? When we were there last year on the EBTA I can't even remember anybody talking about it!!! My husband will definately want to go.

Morrison's is within walking distance from the ship. Check out these links:

I understand what you mean about the "proud" thing. My mom and I and my 2 kids spent a week at Disney in Jan 2010. I wanted her to get a scooter because she has heart and back and hip issues, but my mom insisted she didn't need a scooter, she would be fine. Even though we paced ourselves so she could keep us, she didn't want to admit it was too much and she over did it the first day. I had to take her to the ER on day 2 - she had gone into a fib (a heart condition). She was there for 3 weeks before they considered her stable enough to leave and go home for even more treatment. The next 2 trips we took that year I insisted she get a scooter and it was great. In fact, I was exhausted and jealous at the end of the day that I didn't have one. She would be like "Are you sure you want to go back to the hotel, I'm not tired" and I would be thinking "Of course you're not tired, you haven't been walking around Disney for 6 hours!"

Anyway, I would really urge him to get one - maybe get one for yourself and then he can use it when he is tired. Having my mom in the hospital on our vacation was a real wake up call for both of us, and especially if you rent from an offsite location, it really isn't too expensive for the peace of mind it brings.

A little while back, I asked for some book suggestions that I could read on the cruise and some people recommended Stieg Larsson - The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo.......my thanks! :thumbsup2 Didn't make it to the cruise, but I loved that book. Had a little bit of a hard time getting into the book, but once in....I couldn't put the book down. Now I've got The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Thanks so much!!!!!

i'll need to find a good book too.....
(either that or i'll end up rereading the twilight books)

Cruise Information

Ladies' Tea

LADIES PALO HIGH TEA UPDATE

Well I am disappointed to say that it looks as though DCL are not going to pay ball with us. :sad2: I emailed them to see what/when/how to arrange it and this is the response that just came back.....

Hi Claire,

Since we cannot use the private room in Palo for high tea, we are unable to offer a group option for you. You certainly can check once on the ship to see if they have they can accommodate you.

Sorry we couldn’t be of more help.

I think that it will be too difficult to try to organise this when we are actually on the ship as everyone will have different availability.

Very Frustrating!

THE U.S. MILITARY DISCOUNT IS OUT FOR THE WBTA!!!!!

Payment Due Reminder number 7 has just arrived.
Reminder number 8 from Dreams just arrived!

On Tuesday, it was 4 months until cruise

Formal Nights/Special Nights

And what kind of special nights could we expect ?
Is there a Pirates In the Carribean Party during this cruise ?

Yes, we had a Pirates party once we reached the Caribbean. There was also a Villains night, so get your purple and black gear on or dress up as a villain. We will have to see if the Med cruises have this though before we plan. There was also a Prince and Princess night and quite a few ladies really dressed up to the nines. Tiaras everywhere.

I've just been speaking to DCL so asked while I was on. She couldn't give me the menu/dining themes for the evening yet, but she did confirm the undernoted:-

Night 2 - Formal Night (Sea Day)
Night 6 - Theme Night TBC (Sea Day)
Night 7 - Formal Night (Sea Day)
Night 11 - Pirate Night (St Maarten)
Night 13 - Semi-Formal (Sea Day)

From memory, I think that's the same as last year

Riverdance crew - Dancing on Deck 6

:dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer:

"it started with people on deck five moaning that deck sixers better keep the noise down, so we decided to have a riverdance party to teach them to moan about us!"

Stateroom shuffle - don't write down anyone's stateroom # in ink just yet - they are shifting as they get better deals

Europeans: Print out your ESTA and bring it WITH you.

Personal News

Well we had a good day in London yesterday. We were there in 2 and a half hours and Taryn spent a long 3 hours in the American Embassy where she was sorting out her visa for the WDW college programme.

DSCF1864.jpg

There were lots of metropolitan police outside with machine guns but other than that I didn't notice any heightened security.

After the embassy we walked through Hyde Park which was very green:

"And since we're talking about amazing cupcakes, I'd like to nominate Cake Love. They're located in DC and the mid-altantic area. They were handsdown the best cupcake I've ever had. The owner, Warren Brown, has a show on the Food Network (Sugar Rush). When I was in DC I walked a mile in the (light) rain to make sure the cupcakes didn't get jostled on the metro. IT WAS SO WORTH IT!!!"

They are an excellent deal, but the only catch is, one of us has to be there to "activate" the tickets. There are no rules about being "family" (though I'm sure we're distant cousins) - friends are allowed to use these (and we're now friends here!). Dennis and I were thinking about going to one of the parks on the Saturday when we get back from the cruise, using the other tickets we bought, so we could work out the activation thing.

If anyone would be interested in taking these off our hands, PM me and we can work out the details."

"Now that we have the Military rate, I started working out all the other bits and pieces. I thought this was funny. To board our 5 dogs for the 20 days we'll be gone is only $300 less than our total cruise fare. Okay, they don't have to tip their dinner servers and room attendants, so I guess that counts, too. I sure hope they enjoy their vacation!"
