A little while back, I asked for some book suggestions that I could read on the cruise and some people recommended Stieg Larsson - The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo.......my thanks! :thumbsup2 Didn't make it to the cruise, but I loved that book. Had a little bit of a hard time getting into the book, but once in....I couldn't put the book down. Now I've got The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Thanks so much!!!!!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it :thumbsup2 I always worry giving book recommendations as naturally people have different tastes. If you couldn't put down The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, you'll really be hooked by the next 2 books in the series :)

You'd better make sure you've got the third book, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, at the ready... my husband gave my dad his copy of the 2nd book on our last cruise, then my dad got to the end and just had to know what happened! He spent $35 on a hardcover copy in Canada because that's all he could get - my mom was really to smack him! (he couldn't wait for me to send him our paperback copy from the UK).

I've enjoyed the movies - I really don't know why they are doing an American remake. I don't mind the subtitles, and it was quite nice to watch films that weren't filled with perfect looking people popcorn::

Hi all not been around for awhile, DW took over posting. I noted "Dgentrysim" wanted some suggestions for reading material, well looking at the dancing and partying on deck 6 anybody not on that deck might want to consider "Far from the madding crowd":laughing:

I remember seeing that one of you is going to WDW, New York and then sailing back to the UK on the Queen Mary 2 after the WBTA. Now THAT's a vacation! :thumbsup2

Hi I think that is us. But you missed out the Carabean Cruise, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach and Washington that is all part of our vacation.:rotfl:

Have to agree, really enjoyed the Swedish film versions of the trilogy and thought the characters were true to the books. :thumbsup2 Though must admit we watched the dubbed versions rather than reading the subtitles. :) In 2 minds as to whether I will watch the American version of the film when it comes out, but may do so just out of curiosity.

My last cruise I bought a bunch of dvds along to watch, including all three of those movies. I watched the first one near the end of the cruise and started the 2nd one while waiting for my flight home. The movies are violent and have a lot of graphic sex so I sat in a spot in the airport where no one would be able to see the move.

Then we got on the flight and a particularly racy sex scene started and I realized that since I had an aisle seat anyone sitting behind me down the plane could see the movie. I reluctantly turned it off for the remainder of the flight home. When we got home I ran into three of my neighbors, all "soccer moms" like myself, waiting to get their luggage - they just happened to be on the same flight as me!! All I could think was, man I hope they weren't sitting behind me and think I watch porn on airplanes. :scared1:

Did try to suggest getting one for the duration of our stay (10 days) but he is a proud "old" man so this way he feels as though he is in charge, Mum and I know better:rotfl2:

We are staying at the Boardwalk, so taking Disney transportation everywhere, Dad is able to walk a fair distance just thought the theme parks would just be too much for him.

But saying that I will "work" on other options, just have to get him to accept that he will need some help on this holiday. Worst case we will have lots and lots rest periods during the day.

Thanks

Burnice

Listen to goofyslonglostsis! Rent the darn thing for you & your mom and let him use it when he finally wears out his pride. He will, trust me.

I can't tell you how much using a scooter has given me back my LIFE at WDW. I can pretty much manage everywhere else, but there. My husband was the one who didn't want me to use one - but he was always miles ahead and I never got a chance to rest because as soon as he'd wait for me and I'd catch up, he'd take off again. I finally said to heck with that and got a scooter. Even he finally agreed it makes our trips so much nicer.

PS; how is his stability?.

Dad (Ron) is fairly active considering he is 84 this year, still drives, walks around the shopping malls and works around the house, but needs to have rest periods because of sore hips. I have tried to explain the theme parks to him but I doubt if he understands the size in real terms (I didn't until I made my first trip).

Looking at your replys and from GatorMumInNC, I will hire a ECV or wheelchair, I will let him choose which one he would like to try when we get there. Using the ploy that it is for him and Mum to take in turns in using, that should work:rolleyes1.

The cruise should be OK, last year they went away on a 35 day cruise around the South Pacific and Mum (Lil) said they had no issues with stability.

Thanks for all the tips especially about the pillow, would never of that about that one:idea:.

Have they come out with the movies? What planet have I been on? I don't remember hearing about the movies. Guess what folks........guess it will be a couple of movies for me after the last book! :goodvibes

If anyone else has any more recommendations on books....would love to hear about them. I wrote down several titles from everyone's suggestions last time! Thanks once again!:thumbsup2

Please - ECV - the psychological difference is amazing. With a chair, the pusher is in control - in the ecv, the driver is in control! Until you're in one, you wouldn't even think of the difference, but trust me, it's HUGE.

I just booked Palo, Brunch, Dinner & Tea. I got on exactly at midnight and only 10:30 & 11:30 were available for Brunch, 11:00 was greyed out, and only 6 & 7 were available for dinner, anything later was greyed out. Only 3 pm is available for tea.

Good luck with your bookings!

Which reminds me - Anyone want to do the Botanical gardens with me in Madiera? I have contracted for a car & driver for 4 hours so we can take up to 3 more people. the cost will be 100E/n Send me a pm if you're interested.

Hi Everyone,
I'm not one for posting very often, but read daily for updates and all the fantastic information that you all have, thanks by the way!!! I was wondering if you have directios to Morrison's? When we were there last year on the EBTA I can't even remember anybody talking about it!!! My husband will definately want to go.

I don't think you can get any more recommedations for books for the cruise until right before the cruise or we'll go through this all over again when those suggested books get read in the next month or so. :goodvibes

A while back I posted that I changed to late seating because of the time change I thought that my 2 young boys would be more comfortable eating late (since their internal clocks would tell them that it was mid-afternoon). But now I'm thinking that trying to keep them eating in the dining room until 10pm is just ridiculous - they are going to be tired from running around all day, and the safer bet is to do the early dining. We can always get room service if they are hungry late.

One other parent responded when I posted something before and they were also doing late dining. For those of you traveling with kids, are the majority doing early dining? Thanks

Gosh Linda there must be a lot of platinum cruisers on the WBTA or they are holding back a lot of the reservations for when we get onboard. I can't believe there are no late dining options available for Palo Dinner :confused3

Will have to wait a couple of weeks and see what's still available, fingers crossed :)

I posted a while back about World Book Night, where I raved about my
favourite book of the moment.

"As you my be aware, yesterday was World Book Night, when 20,000 people in the UK each gave away 48 copies of one of 20 books they had chosen from a list compiled by the organisers.

I was one of those chosen!

My choice of book was the utterly fabulous One Day by David Nicholls, a sad, funny and beautifully written look at the relationship of two friends over 20 years, revisiting them on the same date each year. It has been made into a film starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, due for release in the autumn.

I have kept one copy back to share in the on-board Book Bag which, if no-one else wants the job, I am more than happy to organise this year.

There will, of course, be books on sale in the shop and there is also a borrow-and-bring-back cupboard in The Cove.
As 2010 sailors may recall, the selection is pretty grim at the start of the voyage but definitely improves as the voyage goes on.

If you have any books you want to donate or swap there will be a bag hanging outside room 6140, which is not far from the aft stairwell "

Jane.

I'm still happy to leave a bag for swapping outside our room however my DH Dave :worship:has managed to snag a secret verandah room .. :cheer2:..7120. :woohoo:

Do you think the book swap information might be worth putting on the first page?

I know we're going to print out the first couple of pages to take with us for reference  We'll never remember all the great things that are going on, or the real names of everyone on the thread otherwise.
