Need some help here fellow Dis'ers. For all those days at sea.....I would like some recommendations of some good books to read. I love romance, mystery, thrillers......just about any type of book. :thumbsup2 I know there has got to be several avid readers out there who can help me out.

I'm sure I'll keep busy doing other things on the ship but I've got to have a good book for the flight over and any "FREE" time while on the cruise (of course......if there is any free time......eating is a good way to go!! :rotfl2::lmao:)

I would be very interested in this too .... I can recommend any of Dan Brown's books for the mystery thriller type of book, and also Pillars of the Earth and World Without End by Ken Follett but they are more historical sagas than anything else ( but there is romance involved !! )

I am also an avid reader who downloads constantly to my Kindle. I recommend Elizabeth Peters, (also writes under the name Barbara Michaels), P.D. James, Anne Perry, Sara Paretsky, Kathy Reichs, Jonathan Kellerman, Faye Kellerman, J.A. Jance, Dana Stabenow, Sue Grafton, and Janet Evanovich to name a few. My recommendation is to find the first book written by each author to try them out to see if you like their writing styles.

I also read everything every written by W.E.B. Griffin but I am told he is read mostly by males.

I have got a answer from my boss and i can't do the TA this year.

Sorry you can't make this cruise. Hope you enjoy your cruise in August.

michelle, i used to hate it too but felt left out at work so i gave in:lmao:
now i find it fab that we can stay in touch and share photos with our family and friends all round the world, that sometimes you never got around to doing, facebook makes it so much easier:thumbsup2

:grouphug:you will always have friends on forums too, no-one is going to leave here:grouphug:
Thanks.. Both my DD's have a FB account. Me I really don't want one. My friends and family know where I live ;)

That's a shame. Hope you have a good cruise with RC

DH's just got an iPad so I'm trying to get used to it! Apologies for Anaya typos;)

What I have noticed on my other cruise is that very few post on the DIS boards that most post on FB so if one is not on FB, one tends not to keep up with the thread.

I hope that it does not happen here as I enjoy posting both places.

Exactly why I use it too .... to keep in touch with family and friends and cruise buddies and ex colleagues from my cruise ship days all over the world and I store my photos on there just in case the hard drive packs up. It's just very easy to do :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I created a page about a year ago b/c everyone was bugging me about posting our wedding photos, but honestly, I don't keep up with it that much. It did let me reconnect with some people I knew years ago, though, so that was nice.

I think it's funny when people have hundreds of "friends." I have about 20. I don't "friend" every person I've ever met, I don't "friend" my former students except for a couple who are in college now, and as for most of the people I know around in this town, I don't like them that much in real space, let alone in cyberspace! Same goes for most of the people I knew in high school. There's a good reason why I don't go to class reunions!

We had some problems with some of the students at my former school posting inappropriate things and contacting or being contacted by inappropriate people. I also attended a lecture at one of our district conferences by an expert on cyber-crime and online predators, which made me very wary of what I post of Fb.

On the other hand, I've found some interesting websites through it, so it does have it's uses.

Thanks, Lynne, for setting it up. I'll PM you to join.

As an aside on this, just because it's a closed group doesn't mean it can't be seen by others (learned that from the expert!), so we still might want to be careful about posting private info.

You can "group" your friends, and then when you do a status update, upload a link, or create a photo album, you can give permissions then. I've used it a LOT. Groups like "college days", "former students", "family", "church", and now "WBTA". :thumbsup2 And then periodically go through and revisit the permissions you have set for each group.

I retaliated against Facebook, didn't care to see some of former high school kids I grew up with, etc., but finally gave in and have really enjoyed it. Plus, we have zero family around us and weird work schedules, so it helps the family keep up with our girls. But it wasn't until I "grouped" my "friends" that I started using it more. Each individual status update can be set to be viewed by a certain "group", and you can change it with each status update. :)

Thanks again everyone for making me feel so welcome, I can tell this is going to be a lively cruise :thumbsup2

I used to get that a lot when I first moved to the US, and it always made me chuckle :lmao: Some even told my husband that I spoke English very well  However, I grew up in Melbourne, which is kind of like someone in California knowing someone in Florida ;) It's a small world though and maybe I do know Burnice, we might have emigrated on the same ship, as that did land in Perth.

I never heard, but I am really curious. We put off the WBTA last year, so we'd be able to do the B2B this year .. and we still don't get to do it. How does that saying go .. Never put off tomorrow what you can do today .. lesson learnt

I've had a penpal since 5th grade in Adelaide!! Know her?? :rotfl2: It's amazing how technology has changed things... from sending an envelope with two stamps and "AIR MAIL" written across it, to email, and now Facebook. Amazing.

Very true about "never put off tomorrow...." because life is definitely way too short.

Bummer about the boss, Connie! We have not cruised on RCCL, just their sister company Celebrity, but Curt's former roommate is now Diamond status on RCCL and is always cruising them. Like any cruise, there are pros and cons, it just is what you personally make of it. Enjoy your cruise!! :)

FB drives me crazy sometimes so I don't blame you one bit. ;)

Oh I second that, the Dan Brown books are fantastic. I have the audiobook of angels and demons on my iPhone, so I don't even have to open my eyes :rotfl2:

Can't wait to go to Rome on our med cruise in June so I can do my mini angels and demons tour again !!

I'm sorry you will be missing our cruise. However I hear great reports about Royal Caribbean and I am sure you will have a fabulous time.

I'm sure some nice person will keep me up to date with anything that goes on on FB that I can't see.

I'll just be very quiet all here by my lonesome.

its just everyone saying hi, so you havent missed anything, i will keep you up to date lol

This was to be our first cruise, and we booked it when they were released ages ago. We could not wait so booked a short last minute cruise with cunard last year, on which I showed no restraint with the food.I found I couldn’t sleep because I was so full every night !
I’m hoping I can be wiser, but I doubt that very much and I will just have to exercise myself to death. This cruise will be the start of our holiday of a life time, and we will be away for seven weeks. No children just the two of us, and on my past track record I may double in size !!!!

I agree with Susie. I was just commenting on another cruise that I haven't seen very many posts on the DIS boards, just on FB.

Wow, everyone, you guys have kept me busy for a bit now catching up. It was fun to come home and catch up on all the "family" news!

I'm with you. I haven't gotten into facebook because of the time it takes. (Unlike the DISboards! :rotfl2:)

Welcome aboard Karen and Ed. We are Leanne, DH Ken, and DD Morgan (8). This is our first ever cruise and we are so excited that it's Disney! :cool1:

Connie, sorry to hear you won't make it this time, but I'm sure you'll have a great cruise in August.

Thanks Lynne for the FB (even though I won't be joining there for now :) ) and the EB site. Is that for this year's EB or from last year's?

Well my motto is you only live once, so enjoy it...especially on your holidays! ::yes::

Seven weeks sounds fab. :cool1: Reminds me of a few years ago when DH & I went off to Hong Kong, Australia & Dubai for just over 2 months. :cloud9: Where are you going after the cruise?

I have just purchased a dress for my cruises this year.... OMG it has hidden mickeys all over it :lmao::lmao::lmao:

DH saw it and said it just had to be purchased :thumbsup2

Any non-Disney person will not notice, but all of you guys will spot them straight away
